We were in Beaverton for a show at the Reser Center for the Arts, and decided to finally try this place. I've been meaning to go ever since they were rated #7 and boy! I'm glad we finally did. Aside from the food, the ambience was modern, and clean; the service was superb. The owner, Helen, came out to our table to share their story and how they came to open the restaurant. Where else can you get a perfectly prepared Japanese A5 Waygu at these prices ?!?! We love it so much, we went back for dessert after the show. Don't sleep on the olive oil cake either ! This place feels like the old-school, authentic spots that helped create the food culture in the Portland Metro area years ago. Let's make sure it survives. Go and support this spot owned by local owners , and not some monolithic corporation.

The food came very quickly. The cucumbers were sliced thinly length wise and vere seasoned spicy.(non spicy version available too.) They were good- not mind blowing, but good. The steamed dumplings were so good. Steamed in banana leaves, and a different dumpling than i have ever tasted. Just amazing. Never tasted anything like them. Id go back just to get a couple orders of these. I got the prime Ribeye medium rare. Cooked and seasoned perfectly. I may have added a little salt and pepper, but not much. Really good. My wife said the Steak Bites were good, but there was a problem. She tasted mine first. She said she would have liked hers more had she not tried mine. The garlic mash potatoes were really good too. Im looking forward to trying the ribs and pho here in the future. Great first time!

She has full situational awareness that she carries with her throughout said days and it shows. She need not be smiling at all time, because her sincerity is her charm. It seems the entire staff trusts her to do right by all persons and they respect her authority (as evident per their efforts). The Kitchen - WOW. Much joy in the back of the house! Beyond the bar is a small and effective protocol for exclusively in-house, fresh prepped treats; always made per order. The (cheese) sauces for chips/macaroni on everything, all the time.

For the past few months or possibly more, there is a server/closing-manager (male Caucasian, glasses, ponytail) who only reluctantly provides the HH menu. About two months ago, I asked when HH started, and he said in 7 minutes (i.e., it was 9:53pm). I asked how much I'd save on the beer I was contemplating if I waited for 7 minutes, and he said a dollar or two, so I told him I'd wait until then to place my order. It seemed like a pretty light day, yet he took a full 20+ minutes to come take our order -- it felt like he was punishing me. Last night, it was 10:10pm and I asked if there was a HH menu. He said "not yet." I thought he meant that they hadn't yet been published, but when I went to the bar to say hi to someone I know, I saw a HH menu already on the bar. I'd already ordered off the regular menu, and chose to not change to something on the HH hour just to avoid the conflict. I have no idea what is inspiring this behavior. Perhaps people who order off HH menus don't tip well? In any case, this new HH attitude has definitely dampened my enthusiasm for Fireside. Which is sad since it still has a great tap list and menu.

Food: excellent lots of choices pasta, antipasto, salads, seafood, vegetarian, braised spare ribs, Service: Excellent and very accommodating for special needs like mobility or special orders. Recommend reservations to get a perfect table for your party, but it is a large restaurant so ok to stop by too. You can also bring your own wine for a $25 corking fee - great way to use your nice wines with friends without the mess at home! Ambience: Excellent with low lighting and fabulous chandiliers and nice tables with white tables clothes - definitely a nice dress up spot, but you can go casually as well. Had great visit with our friends in a group of 6 and definitely thought it was a great evening out. And P.S. - they have Happy Hour from 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm every night with 50% off drinks. We got some drinks and started off with their Caesar salad and the fried polenta. The Caesar was good, but I wished we had more leaves for the price. The polenta fries were very tasty, not amaaaazing and super salty. They didn't need the blue cheese butter dip at all. For dinner we tried the smoked salmon squid ink pasta and the cioppino. The cioppino was alright, one perk was that the shellfish was already pulled out of the shell, and had a lot of small pieces of squid but I would have preferred bigger squid pieces. And more bread to go with it. The smoked salmon pasta was very rich and heavy. It was good but it too benefited from some bread to go with all that savory salty goodness. Service was also okay, nothing special. We to flag down staff to get more bread. Overall, not amazing, not terrible. Decarli fell short of my expectations. There are plenty of other amazing Italian places in Portland that would rather make the trip out for.

They started us off with a lovely cold soup, if I recall correctly leek and potato, and from there moved right into a lineup of heavy-hitting dishes that were packed with flavor. The beef tongue a la vinagreta was absolutely dynamite. Each piece of carpaccio was cut to the perfect thickness, which let it stand up beautifully to the punchiness of the spicy horseradish, acidic caper vinaigrette, earthy fried sweetbreads, and creamy ensalada rusa (potato salad). The clam chowder came out next, and while it was good as a standalone chowder, it was the one course that fell a little short for me. With smoked bone marrow in the mix and at the fairly high price point, I expected it to be more of a knockout, but it unfortunately just did not quite come together the way I hoped as the piece of marrow felt more decorative than additive to the flavors overall. Of course, we had to order one of the asados, so we opted for one of my absolute favorite cuts in the skirt steak and it did not disappoint! The steak was incredibly tender, cooked to perfection, and paired beautifully with their house made chimichurri sauce. Overall, it was a fantastic meal with great portions relative to the prices, and I'm definitely looking forward to returning next time I'm in the area to try some of the other offerings that we simply did not have the stomach space to try on this visit.

You know it's going to be good. The clam chowder blew me away. Smoky, rich, and layered in a way that I've never had chowder. The smoked marrow bone is the secret weapon. Then came the pork chop. It was moist and the maple glaze added just the right amount of sweet. Our bartender was slammed all night but never missed a beat -- always checked in, never made us feel forgotten. That's a hard balance to strike and they nailed it. Go and try to sit in front of the fire if possible. Order those two dishes. You're welcome.
