I have not had a chance to go to Decarli since they've moved to their new location. It's very unassuming from the outside, but as soon as you head inside, it's beautifully set up. It's for sure more of an upscale experience with dimmed lights and fancy decor. Even though it was busy on Tuesday, we sat in the bar, which is open seating lots of tables in the bar as well as the bar itself posted at east 12 spots. Our service was wonderful and the food was fantastic. They in fact serve Lavazza coffee, which there aren't to many restaurants, serving a high-quality Italian coffee. Love the new larger location with plenty of parking. Excellent venue for a night at the Reser Performing Arts venue too! Food: excellent lots of choices pasta, antipasto, salads, seafood, vegetarian, braised spare ribs, Service: Excellent and very accommodating for special needs like mobility or special orders. Recommend reservations to get a perfect table for your party, but it is a large restaurant so ok to stop by too. You can also bring your own wine for a $25 corking fee - great way to use your nice wines with friends without the mess at home! Ambience: Excellent with low lighting and fabulous chandiliers and nice tables with white tables clothes - definitely a nice dress up spot, but you can go casually as well. Had great visit with our friends in a group of 6 and definitely thought it was a great evening out. And P.S. - they have Happy Hour from 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm every night with 50% off drinks. I'd been wanting to try Decarli for years, even back when they were at the old location. This new location is very spacious and still filled up on a Friday night. We got some drinks and started off with their Caesar salad and the fried polenta. The Caesar was good, but I wished we had more leaves for the price. The polenta fries were very tasty, not amaaaazing and super salty. They didn't need the blue cheese butter dip at all. For dinner we tried the smoked salmon squid ink pasta and the cioppino. The cioppino was alright, one perk was that the shellfish was already pulled out of the shell, and had a lot of small pieces of squid but I would have preferred bigger squid pieces. And more bread to go with it. The smoked salmon pasta was very rich and heavy. It was good but it too benefited from some bread to go with all that savory salty goodness. Service was also okay, nothing special. We to flag down staff to get more bread. Overall, not amazing, not terrible. Decarli fell short of my expectations. There are plenty of other amazing Italian places in Portland that would rather make the trip out for. read more

We heard great things about this restaurant but sadly the food was not even great. I was really disappointed about the grilled octopus that was overly salty and for 2 tiny pieces it was $22. The tortielini was average but didn't impress me at all, drinks were super sour... overall it was not a great experience. I will never go back again. It's not even close to authentic Italian food as what I was told plus they need to fix their lighting if they charge so much for their food they can definitely afford their electricity bill !!! read more

This is really a 4.5: 4 for the food, 5 for the service. Decarli was slammed on Feb 13th and we were there before a show at the Reser. We were very glad we'd made a reservation. Our server carefully paced our meal to make sure we got done in time to make curtain, without making us feel rushed at all. We even got dessert! Decarli is in a huge strip-mall space, giving them three dining areas with probably 40 tables. On a weeknight, I could see that you wouldn't need a reservation at all. They've decorated up the cavernous space to make it more posh restaurant, and done their best with sound control. This time of year, that huge space makes it a bit chilly; wear a layer. The food is good, particularly the pasta, much of which is housemade. We had the burrata with leeks (nice combo), I had the seafood pasta and my sweetie had the duck ragu. All of these were quite good, and they didn't make me shell anything for the seafood pasta. Dessert was "cheesecake" which was more of a cheese pudding pot with dark caramel on top. Excellent. Will definitely eat here again before future Reser concerts. read more

Beautiful restaurant with pretty lighting albeit dim. Very popular for date nights and celebrations. We got Cabernet 2022 glass and spicy mango margarita both of which were great. For appetizers we ordered oysters which were fresh, polenta fries but that were okay. The lasagna with pork and beef Bolognese was outstanding, pork chops were good too. I chose Decarli by searching on Yelp for the most visually and descriptively appealing short ribs dish in the Portland area. And it truly is the best short ribs dish I've ever had (former fine dining server of over 20 years). $40, but a decent amount of meat (yes, charge me more, but don't leave me hungry! Thank you!), w/ perfectly subtle notes of coffee and prune in the braise that elevated it to something you've likely never experienced. Fork tender, and all three of ours had very little fat remaining (which means they know how to braise it so that it mostly melts away). Served over creamy spaetzle w/ gremolata. So interesting AND satisfying. They did forget to shave the horseradish on top of all three of our (or were out), but it was already SO good, IDK how it could have helped it be better anyway. So, I'm not taking off any stars for that. The uniquely crispy polenta fries w/ gorgonzola butter, the perfect whole leaf Caesar/dressing w/ plenty of quality parm and uniquely crunchy croutons, and the fresh creamy burrata w/ caramelized leeks and grilled bread were also to die for. My sib had the bruschetta trio, too, and said all three were excellent. Service was friendly and timed well. She checked in each course, replaced silverware, and put out share plates for the shared app course, without us asking, which I appreciate. Decent wine pour at about 6ish oz. Con: the waiting area is small and cold, without a foyer to block the wind when the door opens. Too small of an issue to take off a star, though. We can't wait to come back to try Happy Hour. It's been a while since I've been to this place, but I always dream of the short rib and polenta. Hands down one of the best entrees I've had in Oregon. Fair value and excellent flavor. Since their move, we've visited this place less. Service can be hit or miss. If you go for a birthday, they don't really care. No cookie or splash of cava like other places. Which is a bit disappointing since you'll probably drop at least $100+ for 2. Least they could do is make the special occasion a bit more memorable. Waiters may not even acknowledge your reservation notes that state why you're there. For that reason, 4/5 since it's happened more than twice for us to choose a new spot to celebrate. Great first visit of many to come as we went to Decarli last night. We celebrated Thanksgiving with our daughter as the days ahead will be quite busy. Our server Kristina was terrific. Her timeliness was tremendous. She was so friendly and engaging as well. We wanted to have a slower pace to our meal and Kristina was quite accommodating. We started our meal with three excellent cocktails. A Huckleberry Hound, Royal Hawaiian, and Decarli Manhattan were all quite enjoyable. We split two mixed green salads between the three of us. It was perfectly dressed and quite refreshing. The negative was that Kristina informed us that the kitchen was out of Lasagna, and our daughter had ordered that. She opted for the Maltagliati, and it was perfect. The fresh pasta was so good. My wife had the Tomato/Basil pizza and I had the Short Ribs. All were perfectly prepared. The Bread & Butter that was ordered was nothing special, but still good. The parking was excellent and the vibe in the restaurant is also excellent. I love Decarli over the years, so I hold Decarli to the very high standards they have established for themselves. On this particular night in July'23 they missed the mark. - crostinis with steak tartare overly salted - smoked halibut salad again overly salted - sadly. the staple saffron mussels also overly salted I politely asked our waiter tonight if any of the sous chefs were new in the past month or so... his curt response was the head chef is the owner... fair... that wasn't my question, nor did he offer to ask if there was feedback he could receive for management... that's okay too, I'll just write it down here. I'm sure I'll be back, they continue to be a wonderful option in the west side. This feedback is for management to read and discern for themselves. Lastly I do agree with other reviews, lately service has dropped a notch. Service business is hard, I don't expect to be served hand and foot, if I do, I'll got to a 3-Michelin star restaurant and pay through the nose... but the nonchalant service lately speaks very loudly... and it's perceived by many. read more

Went here for the first time for my birthday dinner with my boyfriend and we were very impressed. Decarli is definitely the finest dinning you're going to get on that side of town. They treated us like guests in their home. The food was well prepared and made. And the ambiance is dim lighting and very relaxing. Good 'ole Decarli! I can't recall ever having a bad meal here including last Thursday night. The best bread and butter!! Decent charcuterie board although the crostini was so hard it fell apart at the first bite. Very minor snafu. Grilled octopus was excellent, tender and nice char. I loved my tagliatelle with pancetta, corn, shishito peppers, park and some other goodies. Tasty sauce. My husband was blown away by his pork chop which was at least an inch thick! and not at all dry! Service was fine! Our server takes his job seriously. Nothing wrong with that but we enjoyed putting a smile on his face by being extra fun! I dropped a star because I miss the character of the former location. It has the ambiance of the buffet restaurant it was formerly. The middle of a strip mall with letters 6' high outside just doesn't seem to fit the class of the food offerings. The new Decarli has opened with more parking and intimate lighting. It's located off hall Blvd in the old hometown county buffet. I really dig the interior with the wood elements and darker paint. The lighting is dim but it's not dark like a movie theater. Our party ordered some appetizers and the horror started here. We ordered the baby octopus , beet salad, bruschetta sampler and beef tartare I think the chef was on rotation but it was blatantly intentional to add an overwhelmingly amount of cumin and chickpeas on all the appetizers besides the beef tartare. The baby octopus had a rich seafood broth but the cumin was overpowering like if you added tablespoons of salt to a dish. Some kind of Mediterranean / Moroccan vibe that was disgusting and unbalanced in flavors. Maybe it was just this one appetizer Well the beet salad would have been refreshing but there were undercooked chickpeas and more cumin on the beets with too much vinegar. Not even pickled because all I could taste was more cumin and vinegar. That's the second offense Strike three was the beef tartare my friend ordered. The little slices of bread had large holes where the meat just fell through. I thought it was a joke because Decarli is supposed to be one of the most celebrated restaurants in Beaverton. I've eaten at Decarli on several occasions for work party dinners and for weekend meals so it's not my first time. How the appetizers were prepared just had me baffled. There was no nuance in how the cumin was used. The bruschetta was ok but clumsy to share as the bread was so thinly sliced and all the ingredients fell off. You'll have to ask to get table bread but for the appetizer is bread being rationed? The mushroom pizza was the savior for the night. No deviation or heavy cumin. The dinner experience would have been better if Chef Cumin were not working. Nice new place, great interior with lots of parking. Whoever made the appetizers really should follow the recipes and not experiment like that. Decarli is still okay for pizza but really the experience in quality was something out of a kitchen nightmare. read more

Overpriced mediocrity in an uncomfortable setting. We had a party of 9 and were looking for a place to celebrate several birthdays. Since we had such great food on a recent trip to Italy we thought we'd give this local Italian restaurant a try. The good news: the waiters and service staff were helpful and friendly. But that's where the good news ends. We ordered a variety of dished ranging from pizza to short ribs to chicken. All were expensive, e.g. $28-$35 per dish, and none were better than just OK. The pizza couldn't hold a candle to some of the really good pizza places in the greater PDX area, for example Sorentino in Vancouver WA. And the atmosphere was noisy with obnoxious (not Italian) background music. Desserts were tiny and grossly overpriced, as well as, in one case so sickly sweet as to be inedible. Lastly, the final bill had a 25% tip added which we thought was excessive, and the grand total was pretty shocking given the "Meh" food and below "Meh" setting. I will admit, I was a regular at Fratelli, so I have high expectations. Having been to the previous decarli location (always packed and so loud we couldn't hear each other), we were wondering how this would turn out. Parking was SO much better! We had a reservation for 6:30 on a Friday, and as we walked in there was a large party waiting to be seated. Initially I was ready to rip this review, because the host was actually cleaning and setting up tables (not only for the large party, but many others as well), and she was the only one there, so our 6:30 reservation turned into being seated at 7:00. This had me wondering why we bothered? I watched other servers just hanging around, while this poor host was running ragged (and being treated like a turd by more than one patron). Read on because ... Once we were seated however, our night turned fantastic. We decided to just go all out and ordered a bunch of small (yeah, right) dishes: oysters (yes!), polenta fries (get these, gorgonzola butter sends these over the top), mussels (the broth was incredible), caesar (I could eat this every day) and the strozzapreti - which we were so full from everything else, but I had to take a bite. Honestly this was such a wonderful meal, we don't feel badly about overeating. My super full belly thanks you for an amazing meal. Can't wait to return. From the ample parking, so a space that you can actually hear your date, to the amazing food, and impeccable service - you cannot go wrong. We went wild for the Polenta Fries. Perfectly crisped, fluffy on the inside, and with a touch of melted butter on the side, you'd be forgiven for eating just that your entire meal. Of course, there's more to explore. The grilled octopus was perfectly cooked so it was a bit charred but not rubbery at all. The Cavatelli was not all that impressive to me, I think it could have been more flavorful but the snow like dusting of cheese on top is certainly worth trying. Then there's the pizzas, and as basic as it might seem to go to an Italian restaurant and eat pizza, this is where I'd put my money and my mouth. As everything at Decarli, so too are the pies and MY, how magnificent. Wood fired to perfection, each topping complementing the rest. I can't even decide between which was my favorite so you too will have to try them all. As far as the ambience, quite dark and moody. It will take time for your eyes to adjust but I like that it's so wide open. Simple and elegant. It's a vibe, I dig it. The service was excellent. We had a wonderful dinner at DeCarli last night. I had gnocchi and a delicious parsnip and apple soup. Our friends had the short ribs, which is what I normally order there because it is so good. We found the ambiance much improved since we last went there shortly after their move several years ago.
