Rarely go out and get steak because it's usually costly and understandably so, but Kita Steak & Ribs is one of the best steak experiences I've had. I got the ribs, my wife the steak, and both were incredible. The staff was great and one gentleman, who I believe was the owner, brought us a chipotle sauce for free, and was very kind. It's family owned too so, from the looks of it, all the staff is a family. Either way, they were all great. I highly recommend this place and I will definitely be going back at some point. Move over Ruth Chris, Kita is the king of steaks. My wife and I decided to go to Kita for our 6 yr anniversary of being married and we were in for a treat. The staff was super friendly and we were instantly seated. The decor is a fusion of a a high end restaurant but with the homage to Vietnam with the bamboo shoots and straw hats tastefully decorated. We were served by the owner themselves, Helen and Chin. We ordered the Vietnamese steamed dumplings, appetizer steak bites, the signature rib eye and the unlisted special 40 day aged NY strip steak and Vietnamese coffee. The Vietnamese steamed dumplings were fantastic, it reminded me almost like a cantonese dim sum ha gao with egg roll filling. It really bought me back to when I was a kid and grandma would take me to sunday dim sum, very nostalgic. The steak bites are delightful. Extremely tender and favorable, it came with with a side of veggies, Thai basil oil and Helen's own chilli crunch recipe. Absolutely would recommend! The signature rib eye and special NY strip is one of the best steaks I have had. Its aromatics of lemon grass, garlic and umami rich hint of fish sauce really compliments to the hearty beef flavor. As we were about to pay our tab and the owners gave us a complimentary affogato for our anniversary! This is a good spot if you're dining with people who prefer more approachable Vietnamese dishes rather than traditional options. I was a bit disappointed that the pho didn't offer add-ons like tendon or tripe, as it seems to cater more toward steak lovers. That said, the steak bites for appetizer were flavorful and definitely one of the highlights of the meal. The ribs were good but came heavily coated in sauce. I think they would have been better if the sauce had been served on the side so you could control the amount. The service was underwhelming. The staff seemed much more attentive to the larger parties and rarely checked on us or the other smaller tables nearby. Aside from bringing out our food, they didn't really follow up. They cleared only part of our table and never returned until we flagged someone down. The ambiance was decent, but the dining room felt overcrowded, as if too many tables had been squeezed in to maximize seating. Came in last night- they were mildly busy but still had tables open for walk ins. We ordered the cucumber salad, steamed dumplings, tenderloin bites, and the Prime Ribeye special. The food came very quickly. The cucumbers were sliced thinly length wise and vere seasoned spicy.(non spicy version available too.) They were good- not mind blowing, but good. The steamed dumplings were so good. Steamed in banana leaves, and a different dumpling than i have ever tasted. Just amazing. Never tasted anything like them. Id go back just to get a couple orders of these. I got the prime Ribeye medium rare. Cooked and seasoned perfectly. I may have added a little salt and pepper, but not much. Really good. My wife said the Steak Bites were good, but there was a problem. She tasted mine first. She said she would have liked hers more had she not tried mine. The garlic mash potatoes were really good too. After finding out that Kita moved from the Tanasbourne location, I knew I had to check them out again! This location is so much larger and nicer, the decorations are great and everything looked so clean! As we walked in we were immediately greeted and seated. The servers were incredibly nice and attentive and made sure we were taken care of well! Everything about the restaurant was basically a cherry on top as the food here is top notch! The flavors were just as good as they were back at their old restaurant and they even had new items that we just had to try! I highly recommend getting the steak bites and the nuoc mam wings here, they're both amazing! The owners also had a chance to greet us and they were incredibly nice people! TL:DR Truly decadent, and gourmet entrees with delightfully refreshing dessert I had to come back and partake of the good food at this place after attending a yelp sponsored event, and to validate myself for not just enjoying the perks of an elite but truthfully getting down to the roots of why I write these reviews in the first place which is to try and highlight the best of places and also provide the constructive criticism when needed. Fortunately I have no criticism for this restaurant. My in-laws were in town and wanted to treat my wife and I to a delicious pre anniversary dinner. I immediately remembered my first experience here and decided that this was important enough to warrant the visit from North Portland. Both my in-laws and my wife had the steak bites which were properly marinated and savorful in their own right. And I had the ribeye steak which was even better heightened in terms of flavor. My general rule when it comes to steak or high quality meat which is very hard to master is that one, the marinade or seasoning should not overpower the dish and two, I should not need to add any additional salt or pepper to assist the steaks flavor profile unless I truly want to taste more of it. The steak bites and the ribeye were a perfect blend of savory and richness. The ribeye was somehow better than the steak bites even if it was a bite more pricey. Needless to say from the pork and shrimp egg rolls, the delicious cocktails, the steak and our refreshing dessert everything was thoughtful and had purpose behind it. As for the restaurant itself and the service both were pleasant. I had no issue with the restaurant ambiance or with the servers they were attentive and the food came out in a reasonable time. At first glance, it seems like it would offer a memorable dining experience due to the ambiance and décor which are beautiful and create a welcoming atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the setting. While the dishes were enjoyable enough, they felt like fairly standard Vietnamese food with a higher price tag attached. The pho was decent, but compared to other nearby Vietnamese restaurants, it wasn't particularly memorable and isn't something I'd specifically return for. I also tried Kita's Fusion Steak Bites. The steak was cooked perfectly medium-rare as requested and tasted good, but at $32, I didn't feel it offered enough value for the price. Overall, it was a dish that felt easy to recreate at home. The steak was flavorful and cooked beautifully, and the drinks were just as impressive. Our service was attentive, friendly, and made the evening feel special even during a busy holiday rush. The only constructive feedback I would give is that the restaurant gets very loud because the space echoes, and when large tables were being rearranged, the dragging chairs became extremely distracting and uncomfortable on the ears. Summary.... this place is simply amazing..... It is not huge --- but it is perfect and actually surprisingly holds a lot of guests. We had a stand up event here first and there were like 50 of us I think or it seemed that. Since then I have come back and had dinner brought the boyfriend even... Told him they were voted best steak and I think top 10 in the nation to be sure... That being said -- this place is CLEAN and welcoming. The family that owns it is amazing so be kind to them! Bathrooms are well kept. Basically a full bar -- but the reality is that you need to have a drink off the menu because they have AWESOME DRINKS. If you go fall of 2025 ask for Sweater Weather a drink not on the menu but is FREAKING awesome kinda like Spiced Apple Cider with Fireball... oh so amazing. Everything I have had here is awesome. Had salad/Summer rolls and they were big and delicious. The peanut sauce is AWESOME. BUT what I must say you need to get at the very least are some of the OG Steak Bites... just do it and trust me! They are tender and so full of flavor from the marinating. The olive oil cake was also very good -- light, fluffy and full of flavor. The OG steak bites was simply good and tender. The my mentioned that they are typically about an ounce per steak bites and up 8-9oz(I may be incorrect in saying that). We thought the value of it was good. I was in between the steak bites and the steak and I wasn't disappointed. The menu itself is a bit of a sticker shock but the steak was worth it. Enough to keep it in our restaurant rotation if we're craving a good steak. Trust, we have been to El Gaucho, and I would come back here before going back to El Gaucho. We also had pho and it was nice. The broth was not sweet, which some other pho restaurants do their broth on the sweeter side so we enjoyed it. My partner did say she wished it had more meat in it. Finally! I made my visit to Pho Kita steak & ribs today! Lemongrass marinated filet mignon melted away in every bite. I wished I ordered the full steak but wanted to taste the other dishes as well. BBQ pork rib was soft and so well seasoned. Just rightly seasoned carrot and cucumber salad was great pairing for steak. We were in Beaverton for a show at the Reser Center for the Arts, and decided to finally try this place. I've been meaning to go ever since they were rated #7 and boy! I'm glad we finally did. Seats are few and a couple tables not ideal next to stock piles or bathroom so try to come early. Food ~ good! Pho does not come out piping hot and is too cold before you can finish. Wanted to love Kita so badly, but unfortunately fell extremely ill after eating here during their grand opening week. We came on a Saturday evening and it was very chill, had to wait a while for someone to notice us standing around but then were seated by a kind staff member. (The bell didn't really do anything as we rang it twice to no avail). Once we were seated and placed our order it took around 10 minutes for our food to start arriving. The mocktails we got were both great and huge. I loved the steamed dumplings, although my husband thought they were too sticky to manage. I do think chopping up the ingredients instead of having them julienned may make it a bit easier to handle, but I loved the taste. The main issue for me was the steak. Flavor wise, awesome. But we were told they'd be cooked medium, which was fine with us but when we bit into it they were all very, very rare almost blue on the inside. We didn't really realize this until we were almost done eating (it was a bit dark where we were) so just hoped for the best, but unfortunately we got hit with horrendous food poisoning (assuming it was the steak since we didn't eat anything questionable before) that led to vomiting/other painful situations all night. Again, I fully acknowledge grand opening there's some kinks to workout but we were one of maybe 5 or 6 tables that night and steak is supposed to be the main deal so I was really sad this happened. We try to go some place new when the family can get together. I came upon this place via Instagram. The service was great. We had The steaks bites and they were good. My sirloin steak was very tough, and very hard to cut. It was under cooked. I ordered it Medium Rare. Half was medium and half of it was Blue. Not juicy at all. The flavor was just ok. Just my opinion. In retrospect I should have asked for another one. The thick cut fries that accompanied my steak were hot and delicious. The Pork Eggrolls were tasty and the Pho was good as well.
