Stopped by before watching a few college football bowl games and I got a list from my boys but no money was included with the list . Let's keep it simple and follow the list , spare ribs , egg rolls , wanton soup, steam dumplings , chicken with mixed veggies , chicken fried rice , veggie low mein and thats everything on the list . The chicken and broccoli was pretty delicious - the chicken was not dry and there was a good amount of vegetables that tasted great. The fried rice itself was good too. The beef dish was a little underwhelming, as there were only a few pieces of beef, which made me feel like I was eating most veggies with a side of meat. This is a very classic Chinese takeout place, so don't expect anything crazy. Since I live close to here, this place will definitely become a staple if I want takeout. For the price and quantity, this place is worth it. The service is decent and the restaurant itself is pretty small with a few tables, this is mostly for takeout. I've had a few other options between LIC/Astoria/Greenpoint area, and I think East Garden is the most consistent. Their food isn't overly greasy and always tastes fresh. Their delivery is quick, and the food is also well packed. I also appreciate that they put veggies in their fried rice as many places seem to omit that these days. My favorite items from them would have to be their ribs (you can actually get them broiled, roasted or grilled), chicken wings, house fried rice and their shrimp with broccoli. The location on 36th Ave is among a cluster of other restaurants extending several blocks along the LIC-Astoria boundary line, a veritable restaurant row. They've got a few tables inside but takeout and delivery are the way to go. I like to get lunch specials here on days when I'm busy working or want to indulge in some tasty eats. The prices are reasonable and the portions are huge. I had the general tso's chicken a couple weeks ago and the container was chock full of saucy crispy chicken and freshly cooked pork fried rice. Wonton soup, egg drop soup, egg roll, all good side options. I find the quality of the food here to be a bit better than the average neighborhood American Chinese spot. Super large portions! The chicken wings here are the best around the area (if you're looking for something quick and cheap)! Super crunchy! The fries are soggy but you can always pop them in the air fryer. Crab Rangoon is okay (not enough filling) but super crunchy. The pork ribs here are sooo good!! Hands down, the best Chinese delivery/carryout restaurant in the area! Killer prices, superstar service and yummy food - what else could you ask for from a delivery/carryout restaurant? I usually order from the "Health Food" options and it's less than $7.00 for oodles of steamed veggies and chicken/shrimp with a pint of brown rice! Unlike other establishments, they use large juicy plumpy shrimp! Also, their egg drop and vegetable bean curd soups are fairly good. Shockingly, their Tostones taste decent, however, their French Fries are no bueno. As for the delivery service, it is fast, the food is packaged with love and the delivery man is super nice. The menu is listed along the top and the day I came here, the covered the old prices with pink sticky notes. They actually lowered the prices of certain menu items. The Shrimp Lo Mein was only $5.40. The Beef & Broccoli was lowered from $9.00 to $6.00. This is an assumption: they might be lowering prices of things they need to get rid of before the ingredients expire. Food was barely edible, became completely turned off when the top of the sodas looked they were pulled out of someone's brown eye. Thought it couldn't get worse but after washing the top of the soda can off and opening it noticed it didn't taste right, checked expiration date and noticed it had expired 8 months ago. The chicken in my rice looked freezer burned and the shrimp looked disgusting, didn't even eat half before throwing it out. The food is delicious. In the past I've provided strict instructions for my order and they've obliged. Amazing! From out of town visiting family and there are no decent Chinese places. This place by far is the best in Astoria. Food: beautifully seasoned, a great variety, and not overly "Americanized". We had the steamed dumplings (flavorful), house Lo mien, beef lo mien, and chicken fried rice. The only item that we did not enjoy was the chicken fried rice. No flavor and little to no seasoning. I'm pretty sure they rushed on that item because they forgot to make it (which was okay because I wasn't in a rush but I get the hurry). Crab Rangoon oh my gosh!!! The best! This is my go-to Chinese takeout place. Everything here is excellent. I've been ordering here for years and I've never had a wrong order or anything less than hot, delicious, filling food. They are open late, have great lunch specials, and really speedy delivery. I especially love the sesame chicken, hunan chicken, ma po tofu, mei fun noodles, egg rolls, and spare ribs. When a craving struck, we ordered a few combo plates (prices range from $6.85 to $7.40), which come with fried rice and your choice of one of the following: wonton soup, egg drop soup, hot and sour soup or an egg roll. It's not the greatest Chinese food I've ever had, but then no take-out place can ever come close to the late great Lums of Flushing (may it rest in peace), which forever ruined me for any other Chinese food, *especially* take-out. That said, this place delivers on quality of food, and while some dishes are a bit ho-hum, the ones that deliver (pun intended) really deliver. Tops for me are the Singapore Mei Fun and the Young Chow Fried Rice, which we order every time. First time I saw the YCFRice I thought something was wrong as it lacked the traditional golden/yellow color of typical Chinese fried rice. It was white. And great. I now try to hide the container when it arrives to keep cavone #1 away. But here is something that might put these guys over the top if you're on the fence: customer service. Yes, I said it. I often order online at GrubHub (these guys are not on Seamless, jot that down) and they "do not deliver" to my home according to GrubHub. So I take care of the transaction online, wait 5min and call them and they happily deliver my order. So I can use my credit card and get my delivery. Nice. But that's not so much good customer service as plain good business. Where the good customer service comes in is when you call they speak English. So far, every one of them. Not perfect English, mind you, but completely functional English. That's a treat. But wait... there's more... Often the "free" items (spend $20 get this free, $30 get that free...) seem to get lost in the online ordering translation. Or the occasional order gets screwed up. (note: they've never *not* sent me something, but have on occasion sent the wrong item.) So what do you do? You pick up the phone, tell them that this is missing. or wrong, or they sent you free soda instead of free fried rice, and what do they do? Most every other place that I've ever dealt with (admittedly this is not an every-order event) says in their worst broken English "...you tell me again when you make next order..." and expect you to a) remember to cash in the next time you order (I never remember) or b) give up and let it die. I get that they don't want to send their guy out just to bring your pint of free fried rice. Or free soda. Or whatever. 1 item. Waste of time. I get it. But East Garden sends the guy, and not 70 minutes later, but then and there. He delivered missing/correct items ten minutes after the call last time. 10 minutes! TLDR: East Garden's food is a solid 7 out of 10 (some dishes higher, nothing I've tried lower), and consistently so. Their customer service and delivery time is a 9. You do the math. read more

Wanted to try this new takeout out and ended up with nothing but disappointment when we got our food. Both the lo mein and beef chow fun (looks nothing like the photo we saw from another Yelper) were soggy and bland. It takes a lot to mess up lo mein as this is a basic dish. All it takes is the sufficient flame to stir fry the noodle. They tasted like mixed soggy noodle not stirred fried lo mein the way it should. The chicken tasted funny also ...yuck. When I lived in the neighborhood over 20 years ago, this was my "go to" place for Chinese food. Their fried chicken wings and pork fried rice combo was a winner as well as their General Tso Chicken. This past April, I was able to visit the neighborhood with my kids and I was glad to see this restaurant was still around. Surprisingly not much has changed. I got two orders of the fried chicken wings and my kids and I were not disappointed. The only downside was the lack of friendly service.
