Ambiance inside is beautiful. The hand wipes look like red envelopes, the plastic instead of metal utensils are all very sturdy and seem high quality. Almost all of their items have their name printed on it. It definitely gives you an elegant higher end feeling to the restaurant. As a result the costs are slightly higher than what you would typically say. They allow you to walk around their tanks of seafood. Almost all the food was perfect but I have 2 complaints: - 1) the tea cups were made out of material that made it IMPOSSIBLE to hold the cups because it was sooo hot. Not trying to hold fire in my hand while drinking - 2) They messed up one order by bringing rice instead of noodles so had to remake the dish and as a result rushed to get the food out, and as a result the fish was overcooked (though they used higher quality fish than what other restaurants typically provide) However, everything else was great. The crab was tasty, the salt & pepper pork was cooked great, the veggies were awesome. Overall, the food is very tasty and aside from two small errors, I would say they are a great place to eat both dine in and take out. I do think it's worth dining in since the inside is very aesthetically pretty.

When entering one of my used to be favorite Chinese spots in Haymarket, I became immediately confused with the " halal" sign hanging up and the baklava at the front counter. I asked another patron if it was still Chinese and they said yes. We sat down, perused the menu and realized there was no pork. What Chinese restaurant doesn't serve pork?!!! Oh yes...one that is now halal because the charming Chinese ex owners were now gone and the restaurant is apparently now run by a middle easter owner. This would be fine if they maintained the integrity of the old owners....which they did not. The one employee that was working front of the house brought over our place settings which were paper plates and plastic utensils. We ordered egg rolls (options were beef, veggies, NO PORK) , chicken on a stick, general tsos and combo lomein. After about 15 mins we got our egg rolls, served in a small plastic to go container, after another 10 mins got our chicken on a stick which was a doll size piece (in my photo those are SMALL skewers not large ones for reference) served in a to go plastic LID. My daughter didn't even finish her egg roll bc she said it tasted strange...the chicken on a stick had a weird curry flavor. After another 15 mins we got our entrees... the rice was served in a Styrofoam bowl and the general tso's and lomein were served in....drum roll please..... black plastic to go containers. The food was lacking flavor, the shrimp in the lomein tasted a little like ammonia and there were a couple random bean sprouts and scallions as the veg in the lomein. My daughter said she felt like we looked like we decided to have our take out as dine in... which we did due to no decision we made....we felt uncomfortable the whole time and with no waitstaff we were basically ignored as the elderly Chinese woman was getting take out orders out the door. We used to love this place.... NEVER coming back..... hey East Ocean.... leave the Chinese food to the Chinese! And thanks for destroying our oceans with the disposable serving dishes...if I'd wanted to have take out, we could have ordered and eaten in the parking lot... Maybe I should have ordered baklava because at least THAT may be authentic.... unlike the mall quality Chinese food we got.

On a cold Sunday evening, my daughter, wife and I stopped in for dinner. The place was mostly empty and stayed that way the entire time we were there. They did do quite a bit of carry out and delivery business but not so much dine in. Service was strange the entire evening with large gaps of neglect and not so helpful menu suggestions. There were folks sleeping in a booth back in the corner (delivery people?) that was a little distracting. For the entire time, we heard every order being called in. Our food was ok but with my wife complaining that it was too salty. The highlight for me was probably the beef on a stick. Perhaps in the future we will follow the lead of others and just order carry out?

Good fresh food. Our order consisted of egg rolls, egg drop soup, Mongolian Beef, Kung Pao chicken with cashew, Shrimp, scallops in vegetables. All items were tasteful and portions were plentiful. Although at $15+ per item charge is pricey when the food is served in paper plates and paper bowls. There is also no ice or water served with the food. I wonder if soon they will stop serving white rice with the entrees too. Service was good and fairly prompt as the only server on duty did her best to keep up.

Tacky tacky place...plastic forks, paper plates, styrofoam food containers and plastic soup container for dine in. Didn't have free water. Had to purchase bottled water..tacky ..Had the lamb potstickers, weren't bad, a little costly...then I ordered the Mongolian lamb (over $15), some meat, A LOT of onions...a few grisly pieces...ZERO lamb flavor, when I mentioned the lack of lamb flavor she said, oh well..it frozen....wife somewhat liked her hot and sour soup, thus the two stars...expensive lunch, NOT worth it...will not return!!

East Ocean finally opened this past week. I hit the place up for some Chinese food to go for dinner this evening. As per my usual - trying out a new Chinese place - I ordered my Chinese Trinity: Hot & Sour soup, fried spring rolls (with a side of House Chinese mustard), and Kung Pao Chicken (extra spicy). I called my order in ahead of time - I was told 10 minutes. I arrived a few minutes later and picked up my order. - Hot & Sour soup was spicier than I was expecting - but it was excellent! Some of the best that I've had; - The House Chinese mustard was potent! I was coughing and hacking from the nasal head rush it provided! I've not had Chinese mustard like this in a long time! Here's to hoping they don't ruin it and water it down due to complaints from wimpish individuals! - The spring rolls were average - crispy and cooked perfectly, but nothing to distinguish them from any other spring rolls; - The Kung Pao chicken was excellent! Not loaded down with a bunch of filler vegetables like some places. Chicken, peanuts, and chiles in a spicy brown Kung Pao sauce! Cons: - They left out the crunchy fried noodles for the Hot & Sour soup - While it did not affect the quality of the food - the owners of this business neglected to have someone proof their menus: The Dining in menu has on the front cover - a glaring spelling error: "Dinning Menu" (See attached pic - should read as "Dining menu"). The to go menu has a couple of spelling errors on the front cover: "We accept major credit card" (they accept MC, VISA, Discover, and Amex - it should read as "We accept major credit cards"). "No personal CHECK please" (should read as "No personal checks please") (see attached pic). They do offer delivery - I believe they stated within a 3 mile radius. Overall, food was excellent! I will be frequenting East Ocean again in the future!

Dined in for lunch on a sunday with the family. We ordered: -pad thai with chicken: extremely salty & was seasoned with soy sauce & sugar. Not the traditional savory-sour tamarind sauce. -Pad see ew: also super salty. Same soy sauce/sugar seasoning. No umami flavor that is typically found with oyster or fish sauce. The thick noodles themselves were nicely cooked -baby corn with pork from the wok section: only dish that wasn't overly salted, however still tasted of just soy sauce & sugar Recently moved from Fairfax & was hoping to find a new go-to thai spot. Unfortunately, this isn't it. My husband & I started having severe stomach pain & bloating within an hour after lunch. Likely from the baby corn pork dish, which our kids did not eat (their stomachs were fine). The hunt continues for a good thai spot in the area. For now, we will continue to drive back to Fairfax.

Our server, who was super friendly, came out right away to take our drink order. The menu is a bit extensive and everything sounds delicious, so we definitely had questions for him. In the end, I ended up settling for the braised beef Khao Soi, which is a northern Thai specialty and hard to find in most Thai restaurants. When I see it on the menu, I bypass my usual dishes and have to try it. The Khao Soi broth was absolutely delicious and flavorful with a good kick of spiciness. The beef was tender (they also make the dish with chicken but it's thigh and leg, so I went for the beef). Overall, no regrets ordering the Khao Soi. My companion had the Pad Thai with pork and it was equally delicious! This restaurant uses thinner noodles for their Pad Thai but it made no difference; it was great! There's plenty of street parking (enforced M-F until 5pm). Don't miss this spot, which also has sister restaurants in Staunton and Culpeper, VA and a couple other locations in West Virginia.
