The overgrown trailer counter service setting feels genuinely authentic, and the menu is extensive. Service is quick if it's empty, but expect a wait when it's busy. I ordered the marinated beef burrito: decent portion, overall good, but fairly bland with pretty dry meat. I ended up relying on multiple rounds of tomatillo hot sauce (also not vary flavorful) to boost the flavor. Orange oil eventually starts dripping out of the tortilla, which I couldn't decide was a positive badge of authenticity or unneeded lubricant for a later trip to the toilet. At around $10 in South Tahoe, it's satisfying and a decent value even when charged for the cup for water. I'd come back (likely try other menu items.) But it's not a 5-star spot unless you're heavily weighting the family-run, trailer-based charm over the food itself. If "authentic" to you means mild flavor and oil dripping, it fits. Otherwise, go in with tempered tastebud expectations and you'll definitely enjoy it. Solid 4 stars.

Whether you want to stay busy or just kick back and watch a game, they've got you covered. There's a fun mini golf course with obstacle-style holes, cornhole, other interactive games, tons of big-screen TVs showing sports, plenty of high-top tables, a long bar, and even outdoor seating. We decided to grab a couple seats at the bar. We were first greeted by Kelly, who was incredibly friendly, had a great smile, and genuinely seemed happy to take care of us. Then Ben took over, and he was awesome. Super personable, easy to joke around with, and the kind of bartender who keeps interacting with guests even when he's busy. The staff alone is a reason we'd come back. Trivia isn't usually my thing, but we decided to join in anyway. It's free, energetic, and a lot of fun. There were probably around 25 teams playing, and Tom did a great job keeping the energy up all night. The questions start out pretty easy to build your confidence, then get progressively tougher. It ended up being a great time and the perfect way to spend our first night in Tahoe.

So we tried it out the first night of our stay. It's a Hawaiian restaurant, and while we don't eat sushi, we always find great options at places like this. We had a great outdoor table, and the weather was perfect. Their signature cocktail is the Mai-Tai, so we ordered a couple, and they were perfect. I had the halibut, and my wife, a vegetarian, had the tofu steak with garden vegetables. My wife loved her entree, and I think this was the best halibut I've ever had. The cheesecake dessert was also fantastic. Beyond the great food, we had excellent service, too. Overall, a great experience, and we plan on going back every time we are in South Lake.
