East Rock Market is an enclosed public market and food hall that opened in New Haven, Connecticut in October 2021. It was founded by business partners Rishi Narang and John Ginnetti. Narang is a developer while Ginnetti is a restauranteur that also owns the cocktail bar 116 Crown as well as the sandwich shop Meat & Co. The old industrial building which now houses the market was the WWI-era Marlin Arms factory. Now known as East Rock Center, Narang's family has owned the building for over three decades. He brought in a few businesses over the years to fill the space, including East Rock Brewing Company, mActivity Fitness Center, and Rebel Hair Salon. Unfortunately, Narang could not find the right tenant for the full-service restaurant he envisioned. He then teamed up with Ginnetti to open New Haven's first food hall: a collaboration between local chefs and entrepreneurs. As of this writing, the food hall's current tenants are Meat & Co., Ground Up Coffee, Ozzy's Apizza, Rockfish Maki Bar, Don Rene Taqueria, and Rick's Bar. My older son and I recently stopped at East Rock Market for lunch. I had been meaning to stop by for some time. East Rock Market is a lot smaller than other food halls that I've been to in the past, but all of the tenants here are fantastic. There are so many great options for consumers: New Haven-style pizza, tacos, sushi, gourmet sandwiches, specialty coffee, hand-rolled bagels, and craft cocktails. There's also plenty of seating (both inside and outside). You can even order food to go and take it with you to East Rock Brewing, which is conveniently located next door. My son and I loved all of the options, but we decided to order a couple of delicious pies from Ozzy's Apizza. They were excellent! Nice time we stop in, we're interested in trying out some tacos from Don Rene Taqueria. Regardless of what you're looking for, East Rock Market is sure to have you covered! read more

East Rock Market is one of our favorite spaces! It includes Ozzy's (pizza), Don Rene (tacos), Rockfish (sushi), Ground Up (coffee), Meat & Co (sandwiches), Rick's (bar). We have been to all these spots except for Rick's. That spot never seems to be open for their posted hours and we go a lot. Plenty of seating and some really great food. It is attached to East Rock Brewing with its own parking lot across the street. This spot had a lot of potential and now it's showing some of it! Looking forward to watching it grow more! read more

East Rock Market ("ERM") ~ ERM is a relatively new boutique Food Hall in the East Rock neighborhood of New Haven. I recently visited on a Sunday around 1. It's in a large one story brick building in the East Rock neighborhood of New Haven, which for me was a short drive from Exit 6 off 91 South. The surrounding neighborhood was nice and parking was free and easy. Inside was nice, clean and minimalistic. There were some cool wood accent pieces, an IG-worthy turf wall and a cool painted cityscape taking up most of one of the walls after you enter. East Rock currently or will soon have the following offerings: (1) exceptional sushi (Rockfish Sushi); (2) artisanal pasta made fresh each day, antipasto and Neapolitan style pizza cooked in a 1200 degree Italian-imported oven (Panicale Pasta); (3) Salads, açaí bowls, smoothies and juice (Raw Bowls & Juice); (4) Gelato (Nicoll Street Gelato); (5) Modern, global cocktails (Rick's Bar); and (6) Tacos (Taqueria de Rojas, Opening Soon). I really liked the food I ordered from Rockfish and Panicale, and I'll provide more details in my reviews of those places. I think East Rock has great potential, but I can only give 4 Stars at this stage because: (1) I went at a prime time and they only had four open places (the Gelato place had no employees working and the Taco place isn't open yet; (2) it wasn't particularly busy; (3) I understand that East Rock initially had a business called something like the Grazing Goat, but they're no longer there; and (4) there was at least one open vendor space, perhaps where the Grazing Goat used to be. Until some of these things start breaking more favorably, East Rock can't be considered a great success. And there are so many fantastic dining options in New Haven, East Rock really needs to reach full speed pretty quickly. read more

I'm giving this place three stars -- because of their "happy hour $5 maki" on Wednesdays 4-8pm. I was there for lunch a week before today and the owner of the building raved about their deals and since I loved the sushi (maki rolls and some handrolls) I thought oh great I'd definitely come back and have $5 makis. What they really mean is that two selected shittiest happy hour maki's are the spicy tuna (old tuna mixed with some spice) and imitation crab on HH. $1 less than the lunch menu. If you rave about your HH then please don't trick people. HAVE YOUR MAKIS ON HH OR UPDATE YOUR WEBSITE to say: Two selected rolls are $1 less than the actual price. read more

My wife and I came across this gem! My wife was in the mood for sushi, that's how we found this market. They have a little of everything including a bar! My wife ordered her sushi and I had tacos plus we ordered a pizza from the Italian stand. We finished off at Ricks Bar with a drink. It was real chill and welcoming with great food options. I did not know what to expect at the East Rock Market. One of my favorite sandwich shops - Meat & Co. - had relocated there. It is up and away from downtown where I work but an unexpected light day allowed me to sneak away to check out Meat & Co.'s new location and East Rock Market. The Market is a large open space in a converted industrial building that includes modern offices (East Rock Center), East Rock Brewing, a salon and a fitness center. It is a beautiful adaptive reuse of a large turn of the century complex on the edge of the East Rock neighborhood not far from State Street and the Corsair. The owners spared no expense in the fit and furnishing of the space. Parking seems difficult as you have to compete with the locals. Demand seems low for the food hall - two spaces are available and hours are slanted to Wednesday through Sunday. I hope that overall improving economic conditions drive more patrons and encourage new concepts to take the open spaces. read more

New Haven has finally stepped it up and added a food hall to the eatery scene and I'm here for it!! East Rock Market (ERM) currently has 6 counters (Rick's bar, Rockfish, The Grazing Goat, RAW Bowls & Juice, Panicle Pasta, and the gelato spot). Taqueria de Rojas hasn't opened yet but I'm sure it'll draw a crowd when they get there. ERM has a little of everything for everyone, plus it's a great spot to just come hang out at. While I do think there is a bunch of grey space, which could have been occupied by at least two more counters, the set up seems to be working out pretty well. I dined at Rockfish and grabbed a drink at Rick's bar and certainly have no complaints. I'll definitely spend alot of time here in the summer! read more

East Rock Market has such amazing potential. I have tried the pizza the taco spot and meat&co. When I went in yesterday the pizza and taco spot was closed leaving me with one option. It looked as though they were permanently closed. Meat& Co is a great option but was not what I was looking for yesterday. More options are needed to make this place thrive. The environment though in this market is so modern and would make for a perfect spot to grab food on your lunch break. read more

There are solid options to choose from here! I went to Panicale (5/5) for the lemon and clam pasta, which was sooo good. The noodles were al dente and it was packed with flavor. It had a mixed a seafood and not just the clams as it was indicated on the menu. It's freshly made and took about 15 minutes to complete order. I also went to Raw (3/5) and got the love bowl. It was okay for what it was and I'm not that impressed. read more

New Haven FINALLY has a Food Hall!!! It's great! On opening night we enjoyed PANICALE Pasta and Rockfish (Sushi) - two of the six vendors. The Al Dente Garganelli with Spicy Vodka Sauce, Greens, and Parmesan was delicious. The Butternut Squash, Sausage, and Sage Pizza was incredible. I loved the sliced butternut squash!!! And the cut rolls from Rockfish were amazing! We loved the Yellowtail and Salmon rolls were well prepared and so FRESH! Definitely try it out! read more

Panicale Pasta: we got the pizza with sausage, butternut squash, and sage. It was decent, very heavy on the sage (ie Christmas tree flavor). If you want pizza in East Rock, one 6 three is very close and substantially better. Rockfish sushi: we got the omakase. $30+ for 5 pieces of nigiri, 5 pieces of sashimi, four small maki, and some edamame. Fancy presentation, overall average taste. The fish was low fat content (always more fat please!). I don't feel it was worth the price for the amount and quality. I've heard this sentiment from at least three others who have recently tried Rockfish. Also wish the "takeout" options - ie eating at a table 10 feet from the kiosk where "eat in" diners are eating with real plates and silverware - didn't generate takeout waste (plastic containers, cardboard that can't be recycled) when it's not truly takeout. Gelato: I'm not a gelato connoisseur but I thought it was really good! read more

My husband and I stopped by after a workout and found The Grazing Goat in the midst of a soft opening. This is exactly the type of spot East Rock has been missing. The food is fresh, shareable, and includes many options for pescatarians, vegetarians, and vegans. We did a plant-based spread sampler with the carpaccio of seasonal vegetables as a main. Everything came out in a gorgeous bento box concept, including microgreens and edible flowers, in just the right portion sizes for two. The team was super kind of helpful in their recommendations. So glad to finally have a food hall nearby! It looks great in here with plenty of room to move around and a good amount of seating. It was very clean and bright and I couldn't quite figure out why it wasn't packed with more people on a winter Sunday at lunchtime. I like that you can sit at the sushi bar or the cocktail bar if you like and have ordered food from them. I had a salad from Raw Bowls, the Superfood Green Goddess, which was very fresh with a nice portion size and all the colors of the rainbow so I know I'm doing something good. The dressing was delicious and there was just enough, literally scraped every drop out of the little plastic cup. If you like a more heavily dressed salad you will probably need to ask for another. One con: the food was super clean but environmentally, I felt like I did a dirty. When I finished there was so much plastic waste I felt guilty. To the market's credit, they do have recycle bins next to every trash bin, but I know in my own area the rules are the plastics you put into the recycling bin must be clean and of course my big salad bowl was not. I try to actually go to places rather than takeout for a number of reasons, one of which is the container sitch. I know it's not part of their concept here to have communal serveware, but maybe do away with the plastics. I will definitely be back, but I will be looking at how the plating is as food is being served before I choose which vendor to order from. read more

While the food is good, the hours are very inconsistent. Different businesses are open at different times. The whole concept of the business is having a variety of options, but this doesn't work if you show up and only 2 places are open. Additionally, the prices are pretty insane. They far out price anything else in town. The burritos are amazing but for $16? Finally, the inside is a bit sterile feeling. Could use a little more decorating. There's a lot of potential here, all of the food is excellent and it's right next to a busy brewery. But there a lot of little things that need to be improved. read more

I've been once before, a few months ago, and it was bustling. Today, only two places were really open (juice place was open but had limited options). We were one of two groups, and while the food was ok, we came for the options, which didn't exist (despite the website highlighting all the different restaurants). The taco and pizza/pasta look totally closed. What a bummer. read more

I stopped by to grab a bite (Sushi) and to meet with my Financial Advisor. The food was GREAT, the setting was clean and inviting, and my broker gave me good news. That's what I would call a FANTASTIC lunch!! I can't wait to go back to try one of the other food offerings. read more
