This East West Bank is one of my favorite branches to go to. Tucked in a tiny strip mall in the sleepy little town of Walnut, there is always ample parking and the location is a breeze to get to. That said, the services offered are a bit lacking at this location. There are no mortgage nor investment bankers here. If you go there for such advice, they'll refer you to Diamond Bar branch. The staff there are pleasant enough. Consist of recent graduates and old dinosaurs that looks like they have been there since it was founded. Not the sharpest knives in the drawer but then for simple deposits and transfers, they do just fine. Some irritating thing that made me gave them a 3 vs 4 star was that sometimes the ATM runs out of money. Honestly, what can be more frustrating than that? Which respectable bank would allow that to happen. But then again, Chinese people do like to withdraw large amounts of cash. read more

I've been a business customer at this East West Bank Walnut branch for quite a while, and the service here has been awful. Over the years, I personally referred at least four friends and business clients to an account manager here, Ir*** S. Whenever our balances were a bit low, she'd constantly call and bug us to deposit more money just to hit her own numbers. But when one of those businesses grew fast with huge volume and reached out for some real banking help, she completely ghosted them and wouldn't even reply. Things got ridiculous recently. We opened an account at the CH branch two weeks ago. Right after that, a normal deposit came into our Walnut account, and Ir*** S immediately gave us a really hard time over it. When we called for help, she was super cold and sarcastic. The representative, Ir*** S, even mocked us for opening accounts at another branch. Customers should be free to open accounts at any branch without dealing with petty office politics. I've already filed a formal complaint with corporate headquarters. If you're a business owner, save yourself the headache and avoid this branch. read more

Very rude bank receptionist. I had already experienced poor service before, and this time it was even worse. This receptionist lacks basic manners. She appeared to have received no proper training and treated my elderly mother with blatant disrespect. Is this really the service standard of East West Bank? Extremely disappointing. yeah, the tellers might be kinda monotone and the inside of the bank sounds is so devoid of noise you might think you accidentally walked into a morgue. But Ms Vi Peng provided really excellent service when I had some issues and resolved them for me really quickly on top of offering helpful advice. Horrible bank! My mother is elderly and on a fixed income. She was charged a $30 overlimit fee which she received no alerts for. I asked them to wave it as a courtesy but they refused. They have no sympathy nor do they care for their elderly clients. I can't recommend them to anyone. read more

By far my favorite East West Bank branch. I've been to other branches about just as many times but the service just doesn't compare. Come here enough times and they'll greet you by name, they don't constantly upsell you, and they give you a personal unscripted experience. My only gripe is lack of television so there's something to do while waiting in line. Other than that, if your banking needs need a break from the corporate feel, East West Bank is a great alternative. read more

Holy crap these people are not qualified to be bankers in America. If you are not Chinese, forget it. They THINK they can speak English, but they can't. I got a call from a male teller (probably the ONLY male teller) about a swift code being wrong. Keep in mind I have been to this branch and other branches fairly often, and they all have only had 1 token guy working, with all the rest being female. If I call in and ask for the only guy teller in the bank, it should be pretty obvious who I am talking about. NOPE. "Hi, I just got a call from a male teller, can I speak to him?" "A wha?" says the lady " A male? You know, a man?" "No." "Uh...excuse me? I got a call from a man, can I speak to him? You know "nan" (Mandarin prefix for man)?" "Wha?" "Um...do you speak English?" "Yes, I speak English" she says as if I were crazy "Can I speak to the MALE teller? He should be the only MALE there? Man? Boy? Nan?" "What would you like?" "You know a MAN teller? He just called me?" -silence- "You know, NOT a woman? Not a girl? Male?" At this point, she gets frustrated and gives up and I hear her asking another teller to help me since she doesn't understand. She tells them that I am asking for the "mail man" for some reason. Luckily, the other teller happens to be the guy who just called me. This ignorant lady was mistaking "mail" for male, and getting stuck on that the whole time. (Facepalm) Keep in mind this branch usually only has 3 tellers working at any given time. If I call in and say I am returning a call, you automatically have a 50/50 chance of getting it right if you just ask one of the 2 other tellers (regardless of sex). Seriously, after dealing with 8 or 9 of them over the past decade, I have found that Chinese banks are all kind of bad if you are not Chinese. Even worse if you have a joint business account with Chinese people and you have a Mexican (sigh... Filipino) last name. Keep in mind, I purposely talk in a clear radio announcer so they understand me, and that I actually do speak a little Mandarin and Cantonese as well. This East West branch seems to be particularly bad at dealing with non-Chinese though, and not a good fit if you are a non-Chinese person looking to conduct serious business. read more

Okay - I get it. The people working here have no personalities and you could literally fall asleep waiting (no TV or music) in line for a teller. However, it is better than those teller branches located in 99 Ranch Markets. The seafood section in the store smells up the entire place and the 99 Ranch markets are always dirty. The tellers are polite, not the talkative type but they get the job done. Unfortunately I have no EWB close to me so I have to come to this one. At least this brick & mortar building is clean. BTW, they all read and understand English but just play dumb to rude patrons. Think about it. read more

This review is solely based on their ATMs. ZERO stars for your ATM East West!! Every time I come here to use your ATM it is "currently unavailable". You should change that to "ALWAYS unavailable". If you guys need a new machine or if you're constantly running out of money in the ATM (I doubt this is the reason by the way because I have worked at a bank before and there's plenty of 20's in the machine and it is filled DAILY), tell your corporate office or someone that can actually do something about it. What is the point of having a convenient bank location that is close to my house when I have to go out of my way to go to another ATM anyway?? Terrible... read more
