I was up at Massachusetts Maritime Academy today and it was lunchtime when I stumbled upon this wonderful little eatery. East Wind Lobster and Grill is serving up fresh seafood that is sure to impress even the most discriminating of palates. The lobster rolls are $33, but they are delicious. They serve them with a side of French Fries and a side of coleslaw. The fries were piping hot, crispy and delicious. The coleslaw was very good as well. They also put a couple of house made pickle on the plate for good measure. The hero is definitely the lobster roll. It's piled high with fresh lobster and it's simply amazing. The lightly toasted roll sets the perfect foundation for this incredible sandwich. I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I finished the whole platter, it's certainly enough to split between two people. I do not know why the overall rating is so low. Maybe because its a small, old style place without frills or waitstaff. The food and the view of the marina and water are fabulous! We ordered lobster roll, (pricey at $34 but well worth it and cheaper than most on the Cape) steamers (delicously sweet and well purged) and stuffies. Everything was excellent and the people were friendly. I also had my first ever NA sparkling wine, Mionetto, and for an NA it wasnt bad! Prices were much more reasonable than typical Cape pricing as well. If you want fancy sit down place with napkins, this place is not for you. I thought I had posted this review but I hadn't so here it is from a number of weeks ago now. This is what I would call a quintessential "New England seafood shack"..in Buzzards Bay (which is the gateway to Cape Cod. being as it is on the mainland side of the Cape Cod canal)...but don't be turned off by the word "shack". It's actually a sweet and terrific place. Take "shack" to mean casual which this place is. It was only moderately busy the late afternoon we arrived. This is a counter service and "seat yourself" place. Both my husband and I ordered the shrimp tacos after the young woman at the counter recommended them. Once we ordered we found a table and enjoyed waters, a glass of white wine for me and a beer for Tom. The wine came in a plastic cup which is so not ideal but I get it in a place like this where you bus your own table after you have finished. It seemed to be taking quite some time for our food to arrive although we were enjoying our drinks and talking. Suddenly, the woman from the counter came over to us and profusely apologized saying somehow our ticket had been misplaced and the cooks were only then starting on our orders. She then offered us each a cup of soup of our choice as an apology. This was lovely and we took her up on the offer. I am sorry to say at this point I can't remember what we ordered; two types of chowder I believe...Tom and I each ordered something different so we could sample each other's. All I can remember was that we loved the soups. When the shrimp tacos arrived, we had not been steered wrong: they were delicious. Filled with well seasoned shrimp and all the fixings. So yummy. Other things on the menu include lobster rolls, clam cakes, chowders, and other assorted fish items. My understanding is that this is a family run place. We had dinner there recently fried scallops and fried clam strips. There were 7 people working behind the counter and we were the only ones in line. They saw us and kept talking until someone finally came over after a few minutes to take our order. Seem like a long wait for fried food, when it finally came we were surprised how small the portions were for what we paid, 8 scallops for $32 and 6 fried clam strips for $20. We were told portions are by weight not quantity, fine if the scallops and clam strips were large but they were not. Food was good, not great. Fries were kinda cheap and greasy. Cole Slaw was good. Extra condiments cost extra, havent seen that before. Sitting on the deck had great views of the water. Not worth the money for the portions and quality, will go somewhere else next time we are in the area... read more

I really can't say enough good things about this place! While in the area, we picked up lobsters and steamers here twice - which were delicious. Also came in twice for fried clams (whole belly) which were delightfully good - sweet and not overly greasy. Very happy to find out that you can sub other sides for the fries - (bakes potato as pictured, but also onion rings, sweet potato fries and other things available). I ordered to go - and there's plenty of space outside to wait until they brought it out (which was very quick- less than 10 minutes). There is a lot of outdoor seating if you wanted to dine there - and a nice view of the marina/water. Will definitely come back here again!! read more

This was a great visit to this stop, a complete change from the last visit here. I had an amazing grilled shrimp taco plate. The seasoning is just exceptional, like nothing I have ever had. I kid you not, these were total perfection. They have remodeled the interior and it really looks exceptional. What a disappointment!! The "whole belly" clams were basically clam strips, I barely got the taste of a juicy Cape Cod Clam at all. AND the "large" was barley a handful! Very disappointing! I'll have to wait till next time to get my clams because what I had here may as well have been frozen strips from a super market! The fried shrimp and scallops were ok. I feel very ripped off. I ordered clams with bellies and haddock In a combo. The plate came with 5 bellies and 1 very small piece of haddock. The fries were falling off the plate. For 36 dollars there shoulda been a warning somehow . I don't eat a lot of French fries. Seafood on the cape is a hankering and a large I'll never eat it all Portion. Well the hankering was there. wow I bought sea scallops. I bought them from a fish market. I paid top dollar for them. When I got home and put them out to dry I was amazed that the muscle that should be removed was on all of the scallops and some were only scraps. Loved this place for years, in our neighborhood and we loved the atmosphere. Dining by the water was a real treat. Lots of boats to look at lots of things to see. unfortunately one of the things we don't see anymore is any good food in this restaurant. You are pretty much guaranteed to get frozen anything here whatever you order is gonna come right out of the freezer. They have absolutely no idea what a seafood stuffing should look like or taste like they use bagged cubed stuffing and rolled up fish fish and that's supposed to be a casserole. My daughter order her Dad cooked Lobsters for Fathers Day. She paid $70 for 3 Lobsters! My husband started shucking them to find 2 of the 3 extremely under cooked. First time eating here & we will never return. Arrived at 1:45 on a Saturday. They stated at the time of our order (1 fish & chips and 1 shrimp tacos) that food was taking about 30 minutes. Understandable give it was Labor Day Weekend & they were busy. However, after an hour, I finally went to ask for a status on or food as I had watched several people who sat down after us be served there's. So I was told their "kitchen never got the order". My issue with this is that all of their orders placed on the counter in order of being taken. So if you keep passing by the 1st one in line, wouldn't you question why? I can it happening maybe once or twice given maybe smaller orders could be ready sooner, but it's just ridiculous. I have many years of food service under my belt, both front & back of the house and small to large companies. It's just an unacceptable way of service in my book. The fish was good, the shrimp tacos were over seasoned, making my lips burn from the spice, and did not come with the mango-habanero sauce as listed. The cashier did apologize and gave us 1/2 of our meal in a refund, but bad impressions are hard to shake. This isn't going to be your typical seafood review because, well, I don't like seafood. We found ourselves in Buzzard's Bay for a sporting event and were looking for someplace to eat. Found this place on yelp when passing through cape cod. Got some good reviews so we decided to try it. Good food but I like the crab cakes to have more meat and less filler. The fish cake had potatoes. They were relatively cheap 3 crab cakes for $5 and one fish for $3. The bowl of lobster bisque was $7. Lobster bisque was very good. Even had some chunks of lobster in it. This was my second time coming here. My first was late September day last year. I had gotten the same meal but with the Lobster bisque on the side which was inedible! This goes back to my other reviews - don't make a classic dish that people have expectations about unless you can really nail it....... I returned this year pushed a bit from a friend that raves about the place. I stuck to the lazy lobster and french fries. The lobster was tender and sweet but the LAZY stuffing on top was awful. It was literally dried breadcrumbs dumped on top with no flavor, butter or anything and then baked and slightly burnt! I like my lazy lobster when the lobster is lazy not anything that goes with it!! I know it is off season but it was still next to dead at 6:30 on a beautiful Sunday night! The counter staff were extremely rude. My friend asked if anything came with the twin lobsters and the girl blurted out butter and then turned to do something else - if you don't' want our business we don't have to give it to you! When we were leaving and walking back through the inside part of the place they were sweeping and had dirt piles everywhere and were acting like we were an inconvenience to them - I like restaurants to be clean but nothing aggravates me more when they are really cleaning when they still have customers. I really wanted to give this place a 4 star just because of the location. It was the perfect night to sit outside by the water. They do have a raw bar outside that was just about closing when we got there. The man tending to it was very nice and friendly. Came in on an expired Cape Cod Deal that I purchased for $15, the deal was guaranteed the original $15 of my purchase price and not the $25 worth of food I was to receive if I used it before June30th, 2019. However, the owner said she would not give me anything on it because it was expired. When we were walking out, she change her mind and said she'd give $10. We ordered $45 worrth of food, she took off $10, paid $35. When our meals came out the portions of fish was so small, I believe she did it because she didn't want to honor the $15 discount to begin with. The fish was delicious, however we will not be going back due to her uncaring and disregard for customer care and satisfaction.
