Nom. We're new to the area, and decided we wanted someone to deliver food to us while we unpacked boxes and watched the opening ceremonies of the olympics. WIth some yelp advice, we tried Eastern Carryout --- and were both quite pleased, especially for the cheap price. Prices are affordable, and online ordering was super easy (even had free discount/coupons on the side. Hooray for free crab rangoons). Hunan beef was appropriately spicy, and hot and sour soup was pretty on point. General Tso's, though did need more sauce (so the bf says) and the rangoons were good but quite oniony. A tip: if you order online, you will have no idea how long it will be until delivery... they should work on that. Other than these few things, we'll definitely be ordering again sometime when we're both feeling lazy and like we need more sodium in our diets. Until then we'll reuse our delivery containers for lunch leftovers and think fondly of Eastern Carryout. read more

First the good: Good prices, large portions, acceptable delivery times. Now the bad: The food is not good. It is not inedible bad, but I'm not gonna eat here again. Flavors are muted severely. Even when you order something "hot" the heat is barely detectable. Another big no-no: I ordered mu-shu. Weak Mumbo sauce! I got the chicken wings + fried rice, and you can tell the quality of the mumbo sauce by the thickness, flavor, and color (yes I am a mumbo sauce connoisseur). So it was the watery, clear variety, and didn't have much flavor. I was excited that this place told me they had mumbo sauce b/c it was close by, but unfortunately, it's just greasy ass chicken, fried rice, and weak mumbo sauce. These guys are cheap, their vegetable fried rice is excellent, their veggie spring rolls are excellent and they've never messed up my order. Also...it's super cheap! Especially by comparison. I wish I'd tried these guys sooner, because I've been disappointed in my Asian food delivery experiences. One thing that I really appreciate is that they actually put a decent amount of veggies in their vegetable friend rice. Around here I've often found that I get a whole lot of rice or noodles and a silly amount of veggies. Lots of times I end up cooking my own to add and that defeats the purpose. These guys get it. The appearance of this "restaurant" belies the quality of the food - the food is actually pretty decent. The only reason they don't get 4 stars from me is the lack of seasoning. I wasn't very delighted at the triple delight - beef, chicken and shrimp with brown sauce and mixed vegetables. The beef tasted strange, although the chicken and shrimp were pretty good. The biggest problem was that the dish and the accompanying white rice were both very bland. Even the soy sauce didn't do enough to add flavor. Staying in Washington for Thanksgiving weekend for a bit of solo traveling and I came across this gem of a place- thanks to Yelp. After squeezing two Smithsonian museums and the Nation's Capital, I was famished. People were starting to look like chicken nuggets! The spring roll was really fresh and the ingredients in it were crispy. It was not over fried. Fried rice was unique because they put crispy bean sprouts in it. Dude working was nice to me. I have always passed this place on the way home from the AdMo bars without much thought of ever visiting -- it looks like one of those sketchy Chinese places you see in bad neighborhoods that is liable to induce projectile vomiting or diarrhea on a moment's notice. But the $1 for $10 LivingSocial deal convinced me to give it a try. And...it was actually pretty solid. Went in on a Thursday night at about 6pm. There were 2 of us and maybe 4-5 other people in the restaurant. we ordered 2 very basic dishes- a general tso's tofu and an orange chicken. We then waited upwards of 40 minutes for carryout. Once we got the food- it was terrible. The chicken was extremely overcooked and basically had the texture of leather. My girlfriend said the tofu "was weird," but did comment on the broccoli that came with it being good, so that's something. read more

The cleanest dirty Chinese food I've had -- if that makes sense. It's made fresh, and tastes like it is, but I'm sure it's also loaded with salt and sugar and MSG. Happily, they really know how to combine those things to make very tasty dishes with generous portions. May seem like a small thing, but in a place that seems sketchy (let's be honest, it does), it's nice to be able to watch them cook your meal. I appreciate that. If you like crab Rangoon, do not get the crab Rangoon. General Tso's chicken was pretty good though. On the online ordering section it asks you how spicy you want it. seriously - probably the best deal in DC - food is tasty, reasonably priced and portion sizes are huge for what you get. We ordered online (very easy!); 3 combos, shrimp ap and got the free crab wonton - all for under $30 and it was a TON of food. Also - deliver was REALLY fast - I think it made it to us in less than 30 mins (although we ordered probably during a non-peak time, but it was still dinner hour on a Friday.....we were impressed!) I ordered an unconventional order mainly of fried chicken and american food. Not only was my order 20 minutes late (ok, not terrible), but I get inside, open things up, and I have a beef, broccoli and rice, and a shrimp, mushroom sauce, broccoli and rice. Quite far from what I ordered. Requested a refund, didn't hear anything for 30 minutes, and decided not to let food go to waste. I tried to eat the shrimp and it was awful. I attempted to eat the beef, and it was slightly better, but overall I had to toss it. Then I get a call from the store saying they need to pick up the food they dropped off to issue a refund. Three stars because while it's very solid delivery for the area I'm in, there's nothing outstanding about it. The prices are good, the delivery people are ok (though they normally won't come to your door), and it's decent for takeout (this would be a grub hub 4 stars). I would definitely agree with Sean H. The food is not flavorful, and is probably the worst general tso chicken I've ever had. I'm really surprised that this place has such high reviews on yelp. The delivery time was fine (like 40 minutes), and the prices were typical, but the general tso was horrible. I ordered medium spicy, and there was absolutely no spice to it. The sauce was very watery. General tso is my favorite dish, and normally even mediocre GT is better than other food, this was the first horrible general tso, I've ever had. Day old Panda Express is better. I even called the place because I thought maybe they had a different chef, since there were so many good reviews online; however, they said it was the same chef and nothing had changed. I explained the watery sauce, soggy chicken, and lack of spice, and he just remained silent on the line. I will never order there again. read more

The food is pretty good and the delivery drivers are very fast an efficient. However, on two separate occasions I've found a piece of plastic in my noodles. The first time I figured it may have broken off the lid when I opened the container (I did actually break the lid a little), but the second time it was definitely mixed in with the noodles. This is place is perfect for what it is: cheap, greasy, tasty Chinese food that is open super late and delivers. They have a huge menu with low prices. If a member of your party doesn't like Chinese food it doesn't matter as they also have subs and gyros. Why wouldn't a Chinese restaurant have subs and gyros?
