    Crab Rangoon
    DeeDee H.

It was disappointing when our favorite Chinese restaurant close business for good, so we opted for Eastern China Taste as an option. The thing to notice right off the bat is that the sign reads as China Taste. We ordered the Happy Family and Triple delight and for the litmus test I ordered crab Rangoon, all being pretty decent. The lobby is a typical small lobby with seating that would accompany about a couples. And the service was nice, as well. And while I have had better Chinese, this place works than a jiffy.

Eastern China Taste has been a reliable Chinese option whenever I get in the mood for some take-out. Not only is the food pretty good, but it also is one of the few quick places near me that is open past 9 PM. Imagine your standard take-out shop, and make it a little better. That is what Eastern China Taste is to me. Their food is tasty, the service is quick, and they give you a great serving for the price. I've had the opportunity to try many of their dishes, and I've been pleased most of the time. The best bargain is their lunch combination, which comes with fried rice, an entree, and then an option of a soup, egg roll or a soda, for about $12.00. I find that the hot and sour soup always tastes fresh, and has a nice kick to it. The fried rice that comes with the combo tastes delicious and the there are a plethora of choices, one for every person. Definitely get this combo, if you're in for lunch. Overall, they tend to respect the ingredients, and keep the flavors as authentic as possible. I've had take-out eggplant, where the eggplant disintegrated upon eating it. At Eastern China Taste, the eggplant in the chicken and eggplant dish holds its shape and tastes like eggplant! It also does not get sucked into being overly sticky and sweet. This dish has real Chinese flavor, which I can appreciate. Their lo mein is also a solid option. Today I had a shrimp lo mein and the shrimp were giant, and plentiful, with vegetables and perfectly cooked noodles. I cannot say the same about the young chow fried rice or the broccoli in the shrimp and broccoli. The broccoli ended up being a little mushy, while the fried rice really lacked flavor. They should take note from the fried rice served in the lunch combo. Eastern China Taste checks all the boxes of a good Chinese take-out, and some more. Their food is tasty, the service is quick and the prices are low. I will even go as far as to say that their small dining room is kept in good condition and is clean. I highly recommend that you swing by if you get the late night munchies and need some warm and comforting food to carry you through the night!

Came here for lunch today. We got their lunch specials, and they were very good! Eastern China Taste is in the very busy Dunwoody Hall shopping center, and parking near the restaurant may be challenging. The parking lot is large and free, so customers may have to walk a few aisles to get to the business. At Eastern China Taste, walk in customers go to the counter at the back of the restaurant and place their orders. They then sit down at a booth or table of their choice. The dining room is small. and fits 16 people at the most. the employees will bring your food, in take out containers, to your table. This restaurant has an extensive menu, but we were interested in their lunch specials. The lunch specials are available every day of the week between 11 am and 3 pm. All lunch specials are served with either pork or egg fried rice, and your choice of an egg roll, a soda, or soup. I got the boneless pork ribs (L69), pork fried rice and a can of ginger ale. R ordered Mongolian beef (L58) with steamed white rice and a can of Sprite. It wasn't too long after we ordered when our food was brought to our table. I was actually very surprised by what I got. The boneless pork ribs turned out to be very delicious and perfectly cooked char siu (Chinese bbq pork). The pork fried rice had a "just wok'd" flavor, and I didn't mind at all that it had peas, carrots, onions, bean sprouts and bits of the same bbq pork in it. It was delicious! R's Mongolian beef had a slightly spicy (as in hot pepper) addition to it, the onions were slightly crunchy and the beef was tender and flavorful. R felt that there was too much sauce included, although he said that he would order this dish again and ask for less sauce to be included. The customer service was ok. The woman at the counters was all business with no time for niceties. This place was clean, and the employee at the counter cleaned tables soon after customers left. We will strongly consider coming here if we're in the area during lunch hours.

I ultimately chose this place because they had four stars and 193 reviews but if 193 people thought that this was good I will stick to my one and only Chinese place in Memphis big Hong Kong. This was absolutely a waste of $32, nothing at all was fresh except the shrimp in my lo mein but the noodles very rubbery and dry chicken. Very very dry and not even seasoned and crab lagoons absolutely horrible. No cheese at all zero out of 10 wouldn't recommend.

This review is for takeout only. As of 1/5/2021, they are only doing takeout! We got Wonton Soup, Vegetable Spring Rolls, Moo Shu Chicken with Fried Rice, and Beef w. Mixed Vegetables. The large Wonton Soup was a very generous portion and was very good, according to my husband. The other dishes were pretty average. It came out to $40. They don't ask for tips. It easily lasted us for 2 meals. For $10 per meal, that's a pretty good deal! However, we think there is better Chinese food in the area.

I was on the hunt for a new Chinese restaurant, in the Sandy Springs Area & Eastern China Taste is where it's at!! The food is Delicious & fresh!! I ordered the chicken and broccoli with fried rice & an egg roll! The food was HOT by the time I got home and omg The fried rice was made fresh with fresh ingredients! The chicken was tender well flavored and the broccoli was fresh and cooked to perfection! (often times some spots cook their broccoli til it's wilted ) I have been looking for a new great Chinese spot and I can honestly say I will be returning very soon!

Ehh. That about sums it up. This is your typical fast Chinese joint. I feel like I have had at least half of the menu by now being that it is the closest Chinese place close to me. A few menu items are good, a few bad, the rest, mediocre. Salt is an amazing spice! They do not deliver so we always call ahead before pickup. It only takes them about 15-20 minutes before our order is ready for pickup. Simple order process and the staff is always friendly and efficient over the phone and in person. The restaurant is clean and offers plenty of seating if one chooses to dine in. My wife orders this vegetable lo mein... every time. She thinks it is the best lo mein she has ever had. The pot stickers have great flavor, especially when dipped in the sweet soy. We have gotten the crab rangoons twice and they need some help. They are always soggy when they should be crunchy. I enjoy the hot and sour soup, but it could add some spice. I have had everything from the schezwan beef, to the the cashew shrimp, to the General tso's. My favorite was the shrimp. Everything else lacked flavor. This restaurant is a good quick Chinese food fix. However, don't be disappointed by the lack of flavor in most of the main dishes. You get what you pay for.

post-meal pic! top - beef ho fun, bottom - house special lo mein (char siu, chicken, and shrimp), right - honey chicken (comes with rice)

We were a party of 5 and found both the food and the service to be inconsistent. The Food: Most dishes were mediocre or worse. The Three Cups Chicken (1/5) was the worst I've ever had. The Hong Kong Style Shrimp (1/5) was just bland, tasteless fried shrimp. The Lamb with Scallion (2/5) was far too salty. The only "average" dish was the Spicy Beef and Tendon (3/5), but one decent dish can't save a meal this poor. The Service & Billing: The service was quite slow during our visit. We waited a long time for the check and eventually ended up packing our own leftovers and heading to the front counter to pay so we could head out. I was also surprised to see an automatic 20% gratuity added to the bill, especially since it was calculated on the total after tax ($23.07 tip on a $106.80 subtotal). While I understand automatic tips for groups, it felt a bit high due to poor services. There are a lot of great dining spots in the area, but based on this disappointing visit, I'm sure I would not return to this one.

Hubby and I ordered a noodle dish each (him was Seafood and mines were Short Ribs) along with their soup dumplings (that they're known for) and Twisted Cruellers. Food took very long to make, but it's understandeable. Bowls were very big and full. Meats looks good, but the white broth did not look good at all. We took a spoonful of broth to start off with without adding any condiments and OMG...no flavor at all! We were thoroughly disappointed. The meats part were good and tender (though again, no flavor), but most disappointing was that even with condiments, the broth was bland. We kept on saying to each other that we will not order from here again. The noodles were just okay. Nothing earth shattering about it. Twisted cruellers tasted like it was just heated from a frozen one. I didn't get to taste the soup dumplings because we were running late for appt since the foods took so long and had to pack it to-go. I can't really comment on that. I will not order from here again and would like to try the surrounding stalls around it.

Everything came out on real dishes--not to-go boxes--which I loved. You order and pay at the counter, grab a seat, and they bring the food out to you. Now let's talk about the food... DELICIOUS. The spice level was just right--flavorful with a nice kick, but not overpowering. If you like it hotter, you can definitely add more heat, but I was perfectly satisfied as is. The lo mein was really good too--veggies were fresh with a nice crisp (those onions and carrots were hitting!), and everything tasted well-balanced. Only small note: I wish there was a little more meat in the dish, but it didn't take away from the overall experience. And let me say this--the portion size is VERY generous. I didn't really get a lot of honey and butter with them so the name was a little misleading to me. Although they did have a hint of sweet to them, it wasn't what I would've called honey butter in the name. They were fried crispy and very well so that was something to their credit. They came with a musumine, cilantro, and lime sauce that was actually okay but a little on the sweeter side. Szeuchan steam wonton - the wontons were pretty good. They came at like eight wontons so it came with a lot. They had a pretty decent size and they weren't super tiny. The flavor was definitely there inside of the sauce and there was a lot of sauce on there. I actually used some of the sauce for another dish because there was so much so that was good. Grandma bbq pork (rice) - you could get the grandma barbecue in a couple of different ways and I decided to get mine with noodles. The dish will come basically looking like ramen, only without the broth, but it's very good presentation. It had an egg on top and it had three crispy wontons in there as well and two big hunks of bok choy, which I really didn't mess with. The pork itself was really good and tender and very flavorful. You could get this in a pasta dish or a rice dish or by itself and it would still be good and flavorful. Overall this is a pretty good spot to stop in if you want to try a myriad of different Asian cuisine types.
