First time trying Chong Qing Hot Pot for lunch, located inside Chinatown Market, and walking in honestly felt like stepping straight into China. The whole setup is like a mini food hall with several authentic Chinese spots to choose from--but Chong Qing is where I landed. I ordered the crispy chicken with garlic sauce and swapped the white rice for a side of house lo mein (yes, it's an upcharge, but worth it). Everything came out on real dishes--not to-go boxes--which I loved. You order and pay at the counter, grab a seat, and they bring the food out to you. Now let's talk about the food... DELICIOUS. The spice level was just right--flavorful with a nice kick, but not overpowering. If you like it hotter, you can definitely add more heat, but I was perfectly satisfied as is. The lo mein was really good too--veggies were fresh with a nice crisp (those onions and carrots were hitting!), and everything tasted well-balanced. Only small note: I wish there was a little more meat in the dish, but it didn't take away from the overall experience. And let me say this--the portion size is VERY generous. I ate until I was full and still had just as much left to take home, which is always a win in my book. All in all, I'll definitely be back to try more. They did not skimp on the protein, the bottom of the dish is veggies but I don't mind because I love vegetables and it's still very filling. Food came out pretty quick and the workers were courteous. I wanted to like Chong Qing real bad, as I've been to this cafeteria before and loved the food. Mind you, this was when I was in college and partook in a certain earthly herb that perhaps made my visit here way more "elevated" than it actually was. We came in at 8PM when they closed at 9PM, and they still had a full menu which was appreciated. This is clearly a local favorite and they had quite a few patrons even as they were closing up. We followed suit and got Beef Hot Pot (complimentary rice) and Steamed Dumplings. The dumplings tasted like they came out of a Costco bag. Not remarkable and definitely not memorable. The Hot Pot lacked something, maybe something as simple as salt. We ended up adding some of the dumpling dipping sauce (soy sauce with garlic pieces) into it to make it more flavorful and the experience of the soup got better after that. They do keep the hot pot on a heater which sounds good in theory, but it actually makes the soup so hot it hurts to eat it. The complimentary rice is a nice touch but it was basically mush and not a good contender for those who might consider themselves to be rice snobs. The service was okay. It's a more self-serve environment, typical of a cafeteria. But they bring some items out for you to minimize potential spillage LOL. What bothered me the most was the styrofoam bowls and plasticware-- it scares me when you're putting super hot food into them. Call me bougie okay but I get nervous just thinking about the chemicals we unintentionally consumed tonight. The complimentary water had a yellow film to it, so I couldn't drink it with a clean conscience. And Lord they need to get a handle on the FLIES in this cafeteria. Flies of all size. It was annoying and concerning. I know the best food can come from the most humble environments, but food here wasn't worth it. Visited the Chinese food hall on Peachtree for lunch. There are so many options but we went with Chong Qing hot pot. It's not like other hot pots I've had where everything is brought to the table and you cook it. Here, you select your meat(s), spice level and any other entrees you want at the register. The veggies and noodles are cooked and brought to your table in the pot with bowls of rice. I kind of liked this style of hot pot. You're able to actually enjoy the pot without the work of cooking it too. The flavors of the pot were so good. The lamb and veggies were so tender from sitting in the hot broth. Only thing I didn't like was discovering noodles were in the bottom of the pot when I was almost done. Wish I had dug down deep when filling my bowl. Would have loved to have eaten some of those noodles before I got full. Service is what it is. The guy taking our order kept trying to tell us what he thought we would like down to the hot spot level of spiciness. He was slightly rude, whereas my sister would be saying what we wanted and he either interrupted or talked over her. It took us possible 6 minutes longer to order because of this. My sister eats here often so we knew what we wanted. Over all, the food hall is a nice concept. It's clean and spacious. I recommended eating in the Chinese garden if weather permits. My friend and I split their Szechuan fish which came with complementary white rice, Egg Drop Soup and Hot and Sour Soup. Given how densely flavored the fish was, we needed a lot of white rice to balance it out, which luckily came with free refills. Not sure if it was because it was the end of the day but the egg drop and hot and sour soups were not good. They tasted almost soapy/fishy in very unpleasant ways. Overall, the portion and quality was well matched for the cost so I definitely want to come back and try something more items from their menu. Staff were kind even though they were busy. I grew up with Chong Qing Hot Pot, and I'm so glad the restaurant still runs to this day. I recently asked whatever happened to the younger man that used to work here, not realizing that he is now the older man that works there. Chong Qing Hot Pot has kept its incredible quality over the years. The portions continue to be incredibly fair, the prices competitive, and the flavors truly incredible. I don't think any place does a 辣子鸡 like this restaurant. Order any of your Sichuan favorites from here, and they're sure to please. I think the biggest highlight, outside of the incredible food, is the fact that they're not stingy with rice. Too many places do a strict 1 portion of rice per entree. That hasn't yet happened to Chong Qing Hot Pot, and hopefully, they'll never feel like they need to change that. I'll always love Chong Qing Hot Pot. Pretty good hot pot in a food court setting. I liked the flavor of the broth in the beef hot pot (a little spicy), but it really needed salt. I could taste flavors like garlic and ginger in the background, but it was a bit bland. I ended up experimenting with adding sole soy sauce to the broth and it perked it up a lot. Within the Chinatown food court, restaurants can easily be overlooked and can easily become lost within the mix. On the contrary, Chong Qing Hot Pot seems to have an aura that makes you gravitate closer. I guess you can't help it! I certainly couldn't help but stare as a burner was being lit and a delicious looking hot pot was placed on top at a table not too far away. Those just seemed to be such eye candy. Chong Qing Hot Pot is seen as a staple within the Chinese food community in Chamblee and for very good reason. Authentic flavors, traditional food, fair prices, delicious tasting meals, this place really has it all. Their menu offers a ton of variety, in terms of ingredients, as well as flavor profiles. Their hot pots seem to have a heavy Sichuan influence, with spicy chilis running through the hot pots. You are able to order the hot pots either dry or wet. Regardless of what you choose, you can expect a ball of fire in your mouth. My favorite hot pot was the dry fish hot pot. Along with crispy (not fried) fish, there were vegetables throughout the hot pot and plenty of heat. The flavors give you an immediate punch, but everything about the hot pot is delightful. The fish is tender and the vegetables taste very fresh and cooked to perfection. Besides the fish hot pot, I see the beef hot pot going around quite often, sometimes without the fiery red liquid. That would be another recommendation. Their other dishes are also worth ordering. They fish and eggplant is as good as it gets, their noodle dishes are solid, and their crispy chicken with garlic sauce is the pinnacle of traditional Sichuan food. If you ever need some food that will wake up your palate, you will surely find it at Chong Qing Hot Pot. If you're struggling to make a decision at the Atlanta Chinatown Food Court, follow the rest of the people. You'll be happy that they led you to this spot! read more

We discovered this spot on Tik Tok (thanks, @livinginatlantageorgia). And we ordered exactly what he recommended! We tried the spicy beef hot pot and given that temps were in the 30s, it was a perfect dinner for a chilly night! The food court itself is tucked away in a mall with a cute courtyard with a garden and pond. Lights and decorations make the spot super cute. Lots of people there, but it wasn't too crowded. Most spots only had one or two people in line and finding parking and seating was no problem at all on the Friday night that we visited. We ordered our hot pot at Chong Qing and a few items from other stalls and found a seat to wait. Our hot pot was ready in about ten minutes and was well worth the wait. We ordered our hot pot medium spicy, and it was a little much for some members of our family. We will probably take a step down on the spice next time and let each family member add their own chili oil (which was specifically shouted out as being the very best in the Tik Tok we saw). Beef was great, and the texture of the tofu was perfect and custardy. We got a side of rice, which helped us cut the spice a bit. The hot pot does have glass noodles, but if you are a carb lover like me, you'll want more - so the rice helps with that. This was probably the most authentic East Asian meal I've had since my time in China. The spicy beef hot pot was so flavorful and definitely lived up with the heat (I went through several cups of water)! My favorite dish was the cumin beef, I'm still thinking about it! Tucked away inside Atlanta China Town mall/food court. Hubby brought me here for dinner because his boss took him for lunch a week ago and he loved it. The food court is across from a nice courtyard garden. There were 4-5 restaurants/vendors and almost everyone eating in was getting their food from Chong Qing Hot Pot - this was a very good sign to me. We ordered the medium sized Beef Hot Pot, medium spicy, with sprouts instead of noodles. They have complimentary egg drop soup, hot & sour soup, and rice. As we waited for our hot pot, I tried both soups. Both were pretty bland, with no signature flavors of either of these soups, but hey - they were free! I think xxx I'll pass on them next time. The hot pot came out steaming hot and they set it up on a burner. We got some rice because hubby said, "we're going to need it!" I had a little concerned about flavor after tasting the complimentary soups - they definitely put their focus on the hot pots!!!!!!! Yummy and spicy and delicious and hot. I'm very glad my hubby brought our own spoons. I thought he was crazy, but they keep costs down by only providing the bare minimum in service ware - styrofoam bowls, little plastic spoons and forks, and chopsticks (and napkins of course). The order taker asked us where we got the spoons and we said we brought them in with us - she giggled and said that was a good idea. Now to describe flavor... The beef was tender and soaked up the yummy szechuan red chili broth. Medium was the perfect spice level for me and I LOVE heat!!! We saw this on Strictly Dumpling and had to make a stop on our trip. It is in a food court with other Chinese stalls. You order at the cou ter and it is brought out to your table. It was delicious and a huge portion for the price! I ordered the beef hot pot not spicy. It took a few minutes to come out but when it did it was worth the wait. It comes out in a pot with a flame burner underneath. There was so much beef and veggies. The broth had great flavor. Not too salty or bland. I would want to eat it on a cold day, when feeling sick, or any old day. You can get rice at the counter for free to go with the hotpot. Chinatown food court is such an underrated place and this is one of my favorites restaurants in the food court! Once you order at the counter you can sit wherever you like. They have free water or hot tea that is self serve as well as free egg drop soup and hot&sour soup too! when your order is ready they'll generally call it out and you can get it OR they'll bring it to your table. This place is known for their spicy dishes and they make their own chili oil (yum). My husband and I shared: - hot pot with crispy pork ($12.50): such a steal for the price, and it's huge! we got it medium spicy and will definitely get it hot or extra spicy next time. The broth is flavorful and comes out in a mini wok over a fire so it's kept boiling. Filled with vegetables like carrots, zucchini and cabbage + vermicelli noodles and PLENTY of crispy pork. They also offer hot pot with other meats like chicken, beef or lamb. Recommend for sure! - string bean with minced pork (I forgot the price but around $10): fried string beans in sautéed garlic, onions and minced pork. The ordering system appears a bit chaotic, especially as Chong Qing shares the dining room with about five other restaurants, but fret not, it's a seamless experience overall, and the taste of the food is WELL worth it. If the original locals think it's good - that's a good sign that the food will be bangin. Although I've been to the "Atlanta" Chinatown food court numerous times, I have never eaten food from Chong Qing Hot Pot. I've walked by their stall many times and have seen many people standing in line, but there are other food court businesses that I really like. On 12/30/20, at about 7:30 pm, I finally saw there wasn't a line at Chong Qing Hot Pot (in fact, most of the food court was empty), and I wanted to try something different, so here I am. To get to the food court, park just about anywhere around the building complex. The biggest parking areas are near Oriental Pearl Restaurant and Dino Market of Atlanta, which are at opposite ends of the complex. Customers going to the food court need to go through clear glass doors to get to the courtyard that has a fish pond, then go through more glass doors to enter the food court. All tables are first come, first served basis, and it's up to the customers to social distance themselves. I was happy that there wasn't a line. This gave me a chance to look at everything on their menu, which has a lot of items. The employee at the counter wore a facemask, was very nice and answered all the questions that R and I had, and I had a lot of them. I finally decided on a beef hot pot to share between the two of us. The employee asked me if I wanted it spicy, and I told him yes. We grabbed a table away from any other table and where no one else would walk anywhere near us while we ate. We waited about 15 minutes, and the employee personally brought the hot pot (wok), a stand for the wok and a warming candle that he lit. I went to the counter to get two bowls of steamed white rice, which is included as part of the meal. The meal smelled good and spicy! And it looked good! I scooped up slices of beef, tofu, carrots, zucchini and onions, among other things into my bowl of rice and added a little more soup. This was definitely spicy! The tofu and the vegetables were cooked perfectly and weren't mushy. The beef was chewy, and it would've been less chewy if the beef was sliced thinner. There was enough food for the both of us to share. Overall, to me, the beef hot pot was meh. It was spicy hot, but lacked any real flavor. Or maybe the spiciness just overwhelmed all other flavors that were possibly in the hot pot. In my mind, this spicy beef hot pot would be the result if someone decided to make a Korean kim chee shabu shabu. The guy working there provided really solid customer service! The beef is well-seasoned and tender, though a little overly salted. In contrast, the vegetables aren't salted at all, and pick up only a bit if the spicy oil flavor theyre sauteed in. They were also quite soft and didnt have much crunch to it. I wish it was as flavorful as it looks, but with some soy sauce it fixed it up. Since my beloved Hi Pot closed, I have been reluctant to order from another hot pot restaurant for fear that it will not compare. That was the case with Chong Qing but the food was not bad by any means. I had the Beef Hot Pot, mild spice, for delivery. First of all, the portion was humungous. It also met my expectations for the spice level. One of the things I enjoyed most about Hi Pot was the variety of items in each order - so I was a bit disappointed that this wasn't the case with Chong Qing. Neither the website nor Grubhub actually listed what all was in the order, i.e. type of noodles, vegetables, etc. or allowed you to add anything/customize. The search continues. read more

Amazing. Great find in the Chinatown food court. Mikey Chen (youtube) has apparently visited here - his picture is next to the cashier. I wouldn't know who he was unless my friend raved about him. The food was so good and so affordable - I want to come back to try everything on the menu. Their beef ho fun was good, green beans were a little salty but still good. Seafood hot pot packed with seafood, lots of cabbage, very spicy! Shrimp with shell - something to be aware of, people can be weird about peeling shrimp but shell on is so much more tasty than shell off. There weren't many shrimp and they were on the smaller side but that's ok. Plenty of white fish, some squid although rare. Young woman who helped us was very helpful, answered my annoying questions, free soup for dining in, also free rice, just let them know how many. Service is good I really like the male owner. I have been here at least a dozen time in the last decade of living here. I have always ordered the seafood hotpot. The fish didn't taste fresh and the quantity of seafood has been reduced by 30%. The price of seafood hot pot has gone up by $3 which is understandable. Ambiance is very multicultural. read more

Any time it's a cool or cold day and you want something to eat that will warm you up, check out Chong Qing. It's in a strip mall food court (known as Atlanta Chinatown, or to some as the Dinho Food Court), tucked away next to a quaint outdoor garden. The green beans are vibrant (probably blanched before the pan fry) and delicious. The crispy chicken is exactly that, provided you don't let it sit in that yummy, slightly spicy sauce for too long. The hot pot sits atop a flaming sterno type gel, which is unnecessary in my opinion, but I guess some like to eat their soup at boiling point temperatures. I'm grading on a food court curve, which discounts environment and emphasizes value (and taste, as always). Now, I've only had hot pot once before and that was in a sit down restaurant, years ago, but I felt like trying something new(ish) today, and turned to Yelp for recommendations of places open at 10 AM. Chong Qing Hot Pot had reliably high reviews. Something like 350 of them, an average of 4.5, and best of all, walking distance. So I slipped into my Birkenstocks and made my way. I had decided to have a hot pot of some kind before I arrived, and only a few things were technically under the "hot pot" label on the menu. I've always been partial to lamb. Mild spice, because as much as I like the real thing, my stomach disagrees. It took probably 15 minutes for my order to arrive, but it was apparent that the lamb had been cooked in the broth, as it should be. The presentation is real - a metal bowl with a fire lit under it to keep it warm. So much food, too. Way too much for a single person. For $13.25 in an era where everything seems too expensive. I also ordered a Mexican Coke, because why not? The broth was very tasty, with lamb, bok choi, zucchini, carrots, translucent rice noodles, and tofu. I was given a bowl of white rice on the side. Granted, styrofoam bowls, plastic spoon, but it's a food court/takeout place. My only regret is that I now have to walk home with quite a lot of leftovers. I wouldn't say the food is transcendent or anything, but it's good, it's cheap, and food court takeout doesn't really get better than that. Hot Pot doesn't seem like a to go food, but I'll definitely be bringing this with me. read more

My favorite spot at the Atlanta Chinatown. Spicy crispy chicken, cumin beef and a szechuan pot with white rice and I am in business. Me and my wife love the food here and has been coming here for years. The price has increased over the years but it is still worth it. Bring cash to avoid credit card fees.
