It's tucked behind an eye doctor's office in Doraville, and if you didn't know it was there, you'd probably drive right by it. The restaurant itself is pretty small and stays BUSY, which isn't surprising once you taste the food. Everything we ordered had so much flavor. We tried the shrimp fried rice, Shanghai soup dumplings, scallion beef, and the traditional pan fried pork buns, and I honestly enjoyed all of it. The soup dumplings were a standout, and the scallion beef was packed with flavor. The only downside was the service. Everyone was friendly, but they were clearly overwhelmed. It took a while to get attention, and the food came out whenever it was ready instead of all at once. It wasn't a deal breaker, but it's definitely something to expect if you're dining in. Overall, the food was absolutely worth the visit. This is my go to place for dimsum or dumplings. Located on Buford Hwy, this is a small restaurant at the back/lower level of a building. Parking may seem tight but there is plenty more behind the building so don't be discouraged. I would suggest making a reservation by calling (if you have a large group) as there can be a wait on busy weekend days. I personally love most of their dumplings - soup dumplings, pork, lamb and zucchini. I've ordered the chive dumplings a few times but the chives always ends up being very overpowering. The dumplings are made by hand and come out steaming hot and fresh. They also have a selection of rice and noodles and other dishes which we have ordered but not as the main attraction. It took me THREE whole attempts to eat here and then I FINALLY did it (cheers roar in the distance). Since that first successful attempt I've been here a few times and I'm surely a fan. Admittedly this location is in need of a DEEP clean and a major facelift. It's like stepping into a vintage time capsule. But hey, at least there's yummy food inside. The pork buns are a great mouthful (I prefer steamed). Same for the soup dumplings. Unmatched in the texture of the dough. I've tried their hand-pulled noodles in a soup as well as a stir-fry and they certainly held their own. The noodle consistency is incredibly dreamy, so much so it has become a craving in my household. I don't like the beef they use as it can be a bit dry but the flavor is really nice. Nothing has been salty so far and the flavor profile is always robust. Numbing spice on deck. Again, the food is a hit. Where this place falls short is appearance and service. It just feels stuck in another century, and not in an endearing way. I came with a large group, and tables kept going to smaller parties with very little communication from the staff. A larger space or a proper waiting area would make the experience smoother. Atmosphere & Layout: The interior is very cramped, so moving between tables can be a bit of an obstacle course. It's family-friendly, but I wouldn't call it baby-friendly. The restrooms could use some TLC, and there's no changing table. There are two restrooms, but they're gender-specific. Parking: Parking is free but limited. I'd recommend using the neighboring lot and walking over. Despite the space and wait-time issues, the food absolutely shines. LISTEN! 10/10 We have been searching for some good, authentic Chinese food for some time and we have finally found a gem! We didn't want leftovers for the day after Thanksgiving and this was the best choice! The service was great and food came out super fast! It was empty when we got there, but quickly got crowded. Our kids loved it too! We ordered the Chong Ching chicken without spice for our kids - they loved it! It also warmed up nicely in the air fryer for leftovers. The Chinese broccoli was crispy and delicious! The cumin lamb was very spicy but the flavor was so good that I tolerated it. The crispy shrimp was fried to perfection! I'm confused. How is it that the potstickers were juicier than the soup dumplings?? Where did my soup go? I'm not sure what happened to my order of xlb, but this was disappointing. It also wasn't freshly steamed as they came out room temp and the wrapper at the top of the dumpling was a bit stiff instead of soft. I saw some reviews and updates, and I thought it would be a good time to try them out now, but I feel as though I came at an off time, so perhaps it would be better my next visit. The flavor of the dumplings was good enough to warrant a return. That being said, I'm not in a rush to revisit so soon. I'm surprised this is considered one of the best places for soup dumplings. Then again, I don't see it as a menu option in GA normally. Makes me miss NY. Interior is casual. Service was alright. My partner and I ordered three dishes to share: - Wonton Soup ($10.95): Savory and well-balanced. The wontons were tender and practically melted in our mouths. The bits of egg also added a nice texture to the broth. - Cumin Lamb Skewers (5 for $21): A bit pricey for the amount but worth it. The chunks are large, juicy, and full of flavor. We didn't even have to add extra sauce to them. - Szechuan Spicy Fish Filet ($21.95): A little too oily for my taste but still very tasty. The fish and cabbage were both soft and well-seasoned. Stop #4 on our first annual family dumpling crawl brought us to Northern China Eatery. We joined the waitlist and hung out in the parking lot, which thankfully had plenty of seating. About 10 minutes later, we were inside--cozy, bustling, and with an authentic vibe that set the tone right away. We started with the Shanghai soup dumplings, which were hands-down a 5 out of 5--rich, flavorful, and perfectly executed. We also ordered dumplings three ways. The shrimp, pork, and chive combo was my personal favorite. The lamb and zucchini came in second, and the pork and fennel came in last for me, though others at the table really appreciated the fresh fennel flavor. Full disclosure: I may have hit my dumpling limit by this stop, so while nothing totally wowed me at this point, I definitely plan to go back. The handmade buns we saw at the next table looked and smelled incredible--we were just too stuffed to try them this time. Everything we had here was delicious. We started with the shanxi cold noodles which were probably my favorite thing we ordered. We also got the pork with fennel dumplings which were also tasty. The soup dumplings were just okay, but I've had much better elsewhere. The toothpick beef was tasty and different. Service was friendly. My only complaint that's keeping me from marking this as 4 stars is that 2 of us ended up having horrible stomach pain afterward, and I ended up being sick later that night so something clearly didn't agree with me. I eat authentic Chinese food at least twice a month so to have that happen was very unusual. I'm assuming it's a one off bc no other reviews mention it but it was rough enough for me to feel I had to include it in my review. Some of the best dumplings in Atlanta (along with those at LanZhou Ramen.) Their house-made dumplings are good both boiled and steamed. Favorites are the pork chive and pork fennel. The pork cabbage are good as well, but I find them to be slightly lacking in the punch that the other two have. They paid nicely with an order of chive pancakes. I love the interior as well. It has a classic Chinese restaurant feel, like stepping back into the early 00's. First off, be aware there is a 3% credit card fee. When we went, it was not disclosed anywhere except a small sign by the register, which you really don't even walk up to. They said they were going to put a sign in the window to comply with Georgia state law, but we'll see if that happens. When you walk in, there will be an iPad on your left that you have to sign in on. You put your party's size, name, and phone number in to receive a text when you are next in line and when your table is ready. It took about 30 minutes to clear six small groups ahead of us. The food was pretty good, but the service left a bit to be desired. I brought my own big gulp of water in, so my wife wound up going through my water and hers. It took me putting the two empty water glasses on the outside of the table to get them to come over to give a refill. Definitely give the buns and dumplings a try! read more

We had the pork and chive dumplings, griddle fish (?), and thick rice noodles with beef. The dumplings were wonderful as always. Steamed perfectly, soft and lots of chives. The griddle fish, I'm not sure of the exact name but it's on the upper right side of the second page of the menu, is really spicy with carrot, potato, lotus root, fish, onions, and chives. It is my favorite and huge. We always end up bringing some of it home. I was a little disappointed with the noodles. I think I was expecting something more like traditional chow fun? It does have beef, bean sprouts, beef, etc but is very chopped up and the noodles are a bit too soft. The flavor is very good but a bit different than I was expecting. We also had scallion pancakes but I forgot to take a picture of them but they were crispy and delicious. I wasn't a huge fan of the Ma Po Tofu just because the type of spice they use wasn't the normal spice but the kind that leaves that tingling feeling in your mouth and that's not really my preference. Came here on a Saturday evening, had to wait a little bit for a table for 2. Wait was pretty quick, they have a device for signing up to wait for a table. My friend and I shared a steamed dumpling with shrimp, pork, and chives - and pan-fried pork dumplings as well. The steamed dumplings were delicious as the skin was chewy and the inside was flavorful and soft. Pan-fried pork dumplings meat was soft and flavorful too, but the outside wasn't very crispy unfortunately. Each table has soy sauce, vinegar, chili oil, and salt / pepper. I happened upon this place a couple months ago after seeing a video on social media highlighting it. They quickly became my go-to place for xiaolongbao (soup dumplings). They are so chewy with a scrumptious, juicy inside that melts in your mouth. This time, my friend and I decided to venture out and try something new along with our go-to. We got a wonton soup and, I'm sorry, I was not a fan. It was the strangest wonton soup I've ever had. The flavor and texture was so different from anything I've ever tried and not in a good way. I would stick with dumplings and xiaolongbao if you visit. The service is always something to be desired here, that is a downside. We got moved into a corner and we had trouble flagging down the waiter to order, get more drinks, even get our check. Some of the best Chinese food I've had in my entire life (and I'm from Chicago so I know good Chinese food). My mom and I came here after I picked her up from the train. We got the salt and pepper shrimp (MASSIVE! So crunchy! Delicious!), Dan Dan noodles (who knew cold noodles could be so delicious?!?!), string beans (perfectly charred and so well flavored), all the Dumplings that didn't have pork (all were delicious, the lamb was my favorite), tomato and egg stir fry (so incredibly delicious and the eggs are just melt in your mouth good). Some of the best Chinese I've had in Atlanta. The beef and celery isn't something I would have ordered off the menu but I saw photos on IG and was interested. A wonderful mix of sweet and savory and the beef is perfectly fried and tender. The chive and pork dumplings and pork bao were pretty good and the portions generous. This place isn't that big at all in the inside. Our wait wasn't too long. Once seated our drink orders were taken and shortly afterwards , we ordered our food. For starters I ordered shrimp, pork and scallion dumplings. The serving was HUGE! I think I counted 16 dumplings. I only ate a few but my friend didn't try any. Lol. The dumplings had a nice flavor but I wouldn't order again. As my main dish I ordered crispy hot chicken! And it was hot!!! It came with white steamed rice. I enjoyed what I could eat of it.
