After we had sat and ordered our food a group of about 20 people had sat down. We had already been waiting for about 30 minutes at this point an only had pompano to snack on. The larger group was served before us even though we had arrived much earlier. 30 more minutes later the group finished their food about to leave and we had only just now gotten our food. The food was subpar, could get better Indian food anywhere else. Butter chicken and tikka masala was insanely sweet and the biryani dry. If any of the men working here tells you to come inside and they'll offer you a "discount" say no. read more

Our friends booked a large table for us here last night and I'm so glad they did. What a lovely place. The staff were so fun, interactive and warm. And each dish was full of special and unique flavors. My 6 year old tore into some cheese naan and it looked so good, my friend and I had to order one for ourselves. They're like okay. Not bad, but not good either. My boyfriend and I both had byrani and we shared an appetizer. Appetizer was a mixed meat skewer plate, it was pretty good. We were visiting from the US and we're told to go here for delicious Indian Food. Being from the US we weren't used to people standing outside trying to get you to come into your establishment. We were very turned off by this and were contemplating leaving the area. Then we happened upon this place. We asked the nice man outside if there was a wait and he said no. We walked around to decide and came back. The best thing we did. Everyone was so friendly and attentive. One of my daughters is very picky. We ordered her a appetizer which happened to be too spicy. The waiter suggested something else and she fell in love Chicken Korma. So thank you for making her experience so much better for us. We enjoyed the food just the right amount of spice on everything. I highly recommend them you will not be disappointed. The one thing that did surprise us they did not serve desserts. read more

In town from the States on business and first time to Brick Lane. Happened into Eastern Eye as it was mid-week and in general most of the restaurants had few people but Eastern Eye had more than most which we took to be a good sign (and no they were not out on the street offering free beer as some of the other shops were). It was an excellent choice; very extensive menu, wait staff was very friendly and helpful and the food was amazing. We tried three dishes and all were good but the Balti Chicken was outstanding. The rich but subtle blend of flavors and spices was fantastic, I would fly back to London for this dish. We also had the Lamb Kurma which too was excellent and also the Chicken Tikka Masala which was good but in my opinion not as notable as the other two dishes. read more

You come here for the Balti, obviously. Unlike many other restaurants on Brick Lane, Eastern Eye has a liquor license. BYOB has it's own charm, but if you just want something efficient you can come here. They advertise outside that they are highly ranked on Trip Advisor... so we ended up coming here when overwhelmed with options. Ask for their recommendations, and you wont be sorry, but if you like Tikka Masala, I recommend the Balti instead. It has a similar sweet and savory flavor and in my opinion is better than their Tikka Masala (which I did not order a second time upon returning). A good stop! read more

I stumbled across Eastern Eye while wandering through Brick Lane trying to decide where to eat. The sign in the door offering a starter, main, side and naan for £6.50 drew me in far quicker than a guy on the street could! I was slightly apprehensive based on the fact that there was no one else in the restaurant and a few other establishments were fairly busy but I thought I'd take a chance. Luckily I wasn't disappointed. The food (especially the chicken Dansak) was full of flavour and while there wasn't quite as much chicken as normal this was to be expected for such a cheap offer. The naan was not quite as oily as usual which was good for me and the side of mushroom bhajee that I went for was an unexpected pleasure. I've had better curries but I've had a lot worse but for this price you can't go wrong read more

It's quite hard to stand out among the 30 or so Indian restaurants in Brick Lane, but Oriental Eye certainly does. I was at a wine tasting nearby and as I approached, noticed that at 6pm, Oriental Eye was completely full, with people queuing outside. Consequently, when I tired of the dry biscuits they give you at wine tastings I went back to try it out - and it was indeed superb. Almost empty at 8.30pm, it obviously caters to a young crowd going on somewhere else and people stopping on their way home from work, but its speciality Balti dishes are absolutely delicious. I have the king prawn Balti special which was gorgeous - rich and perfectly spiced. The rice was also delicious and well-flavoured and the lassi as tasty as one would expect. And the whole cost only £11.50 with a 25% discount as I was eating (for them) quite late. I am now looking for excuses to go there again. read more

Some dishes are okay, others are awful. My favorite Indian dish is palak/saag paneer, and their version was the worst i ever had. Literally, I could only eat two bites because it tasted as if they'd dumped a pound of sugar into it. I've heard that British Indian dishes are sweeter, but there's no way that they're supposed to be that sweet. It was like candy! Also they lured us in with "one free beer each," but once we're ordering we discover they really meant free HALF PINT... which is definitely not the same thing. read more

I stumbled across Eastern Eye with my brother when searching for a half decent curry house in Brick Lane. My Brick Lane tip is to always avoid the places with a guy trying to entice you in with free beer etc., the reason they do that is because they are no good. We plumped for Eastern Eye because it is the only place that doesn't look like it is falling apart in that part of the lane. The food is fairly priced and off good quality. I'm particularly fond of the Chicken Curry as it has a good meat to sauce ratio. The only thing letting this place down is the service, which is an absolute shocker even when the place is deserted. read more

I took a group of colleagues here last night as a result of reading Yelp reviews... they were looking for a "real Brick Lane curry experience." The food was fine. It was simple indian faire, and most people cleaned their plates. My rating is related more to the service than the food. Our server was rude, and seemed annoyed the whole time. I dont think the guy smiled once. He was particularly sweet to my gorgeous, barbie-doll-looking friend, but beyond that, he seemed like he could care less that the rest of us were there. I wasn't impressed, and I wouldn't go back. There are plenty of other options we can choose when we're craving Indo-pakistani food. Two recommendations that would make this business better: Be kind and welcoming to your guests once they're in the door and sitting at a table, and add descriptions for each item on your menu for those with allergies or who arent familiar with indian dishes. read more

Ignored multiple requests for water. The water they put on the table of 7 is enough for 4 people and costs 3 quid. Food was good, but not worth it. With the tiny beers and 20% off but added service charge, it came to around 11 per person. You can do better for that price. read more

We went in as it was the 4th place offering us a deal by a barker on the street "free beer" etc. 4 of us sat down and the flat bread was brought to us with some sauce, but only 1 waiter for the whole room so no one came to take an order. I got up and told the barker that no one was serving us. A waiter came, I asked for 4 waters and 4 free beers. They brought us two free beers 1 for my son & 1 for me, none for wife or daughter. The tikka massala, vegetarian dishes, bhajis, samosas and butter chicken dishes were fantastic and the service was good. I've been to a number of other brick lane restaurants and this is the best one I've been to so far. Eastern Eye is a quality Indian. I don't agree with the other review here about Brick Lane. Most brick lane restaurant have special offers like a free round of drinks and I've found no correlation between the quality of food and the special offers. In fact, they offered us a free round of drink and 20% off our meal here. read more

Strange to land into a curry house to the sound of the FA Cup semi-finaland the sound of our crowd seen as we were the only ones in. It took a while for orders to be taken and it felt like ages before the grub came (probably due to the fact it was Sunday afternoon and I was firmly in the horrors)but once it came it was good grub; a £7.95 lunch menu that has starter, mains, rice or naan and a selection of other dishes. This is our favorite Pakistani/Indian restaurant in London and we always go when we are visiting. Located on Brick Lane amongst many many similar restaurants, but we enjoy Eastern Eye the most. The service is excellent- we always have a well-spoken attentive waiter and efficient support staff. My two favorite dishes are the Balti Prawn and Chicken Tikka, with a few Cobra beers. Looking for an Indian restaurant we had no specific restaurant in mind. Although off putting, all of the restaurants seemed to have someone out front trying to tout their virtues with a 20% discount. We were a group of 12 people who reserved a table for my friend's hen do. First bad sign, the table had bottled water on it already. A trap to make you pay for water and not get tap water. We proceeded to order, of course we ordered some poppadoms. Didn't see any problems with that at the time. Then 15 minutes after ordering, two people's food on our table arrived. They started eating. We were all waiting wondering when ours was gonna be. Nothing came. In the mean time, no checking in from the waiting the staff asking if we wanted more water etc etc. We watch new people arrive. About four groups arrived after us, total of 10 people ish. We watched them getting their food. 20 minutes later, one of our friends was feeling unwell. She had thrown up in the toilet and wanted to take her food to go. She wanted to pay first before she left. We asked what her share of the bill was. The manager said we don't know. This is was after we had asked them to calculate separate bills for each person as it would make it easier for us to pay. We asked if they could just calculate it. They refused to, didn't offer to give us a menu. But then said that her total was £25. This was for some lamb with naan and a cup of tea. A bit over priced no? Of course her bill was not actually that much when we calculated it later. However, she left this much cash and left in a hurry with her food. No sympathy from the restaurant about our unwell friend. 40 minutes later I asked them where our food was. They said it's coming. No apologies about the wait. We carried on watching two people on our table eat and the rest of the restaurant eat... 45 minutes later, food finally arrives. The two people on our table who got their food first already finished eating. I always expect Indian food to have big portions. It's just what you expect when you go to Indian restaurants. I finished my chicken jeera in 5 spoonfuls. I was left feeling hungry- unexpected from a curry. I decided to talk to the manager and make a complaint. It started with me being calm but then I got more and more angry because he refused to listen. He kept speaking over me. I was in this ridiculous situation where me, the customer, felt that the service and wait time had been terrible, the food portions were very small for the amount we paid and he simply denied everything I was saying. It was actually bizarre. No apologies. Not even one of those 'sorry you felt that way' one's. So I said the customer is always right. And to that, his reply was 'no they aren't'. The bill finally came and our three bottles of water (750ml still bottled water) added up to over £11.00. They charged 75p per head for the poppadoms AND 75p per head for the chutney and sauce that went with it! Has anyone else seen a restaurant do that?! I really wish I had taken a picture of the receipt. Another person from the party spoke to the manager, somehow she talked some sense into him and my meal was taken off of the bill but everyone else had to pay still. I decided to pay for the bulk of the poppadoms and chutney instead as everyone had a terrible time and it was not fair for me to not pay as much. I thought everything was over. Then, as I was waiting outside the restaurant for everyone to leave the table, a guy decided to tell me I was rude to the waiting staff. I clicked my fingers when I asked for the bill. At this point I had tried to get their attention (5 waiters around in a small restaurant and no one answered), and I just had the terrible conversation with the manager, so I lost my patience and clicked my fingers. Admittedly, it was not kind but it was out of pure frustration and anger. He started saying that I should have treated with them with respect, and I should have talked to the manager if I had a problem. He clearly didn't see me talking to the manager and had no idea what had gone down. He also accused me of being drunk. I had not had any alcohol. No one did. Why he decided to say all of this when we were LEAVING and OUTSIDE the restaurant, I don't know. But you can see, the calibre of the people that runs it and works there is appalling. The night was over, whole event was behind me. Then at 3am, I woke up with terrible stomach pain, nausea and had very very bad diarrhoea. So not only did I get bad service, I got also food poisoning. I don't know where these 5 start reviews came from. I have half a mind that they are fake. DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT. read more

Three star average is on point. Should have seen this coming when the barker was touting a 4 star trip advisor average. Place was busy but: took forever for them to take our order, took forever for the food to come out, forgot a naan order, food was mediocre. So an old(17 years older to be exact) friend came over to visit me and seemed content just to stagnate on my couch(and not in the most fragrant way!)before she got so drunk that she decided playing with oncoming traffic on the westway flyover was a good idea she asked to go for a curry on the Saturday night. On Saturday morning she decided she did not wish to leave the couch, however as I didnt wish to fumigate I got her lazy fat ass off the couch eventually and onto a tube to liverpool street. After she protested about walking I got the cab driver to drop us in the middle of brick lane and took a wander. All places looked pretty much the same but the eastern eye caught my eye as they had just gotten an award from Lite and they were giving 25% off the bill plus no service charge for one night only. Now I am far from an afficionado of Indian food but it all smelled good. My friend, although she fancied herself as some kind of expert, having been to India once on one of those awful middle to old age singles tours, ordered exactly the same as me,tandoori platter, butter chicken and cheese spinach(something aloo) I also had onion and pea rice and cheese nan. On top of this I had a bottle of mateus rose and a double malibu and coke and she had a very large Indian beer. astoundingly the cheap fat ass paid the bill, and it was only £48! Although service was a little shaky(they brought the wrong side, then didn't bring me anything else for 20 minutes when they brought out the same wrong side(except this time oven burnt)but eventually brought me the cheesy spinach which unbelievably was worth the wait!) and there was no ice bucket for my rose, I would go back if I could get that quantity and quality for that price again! read more
