They wanted $225 just to walk in the door and diagnose the machine, + $70/hr labor + parts. I won't be going back to purchase anything there! So, next I called Ace Appliance Repair after I learned from the F-P mother ship that they were authorized to do F-P repairs. I made an appointment for 2 days out, but they called back next day with an opening. Joe came out to diagnose for $70. Dryer needed a new electronic board, which cost around $175, and had to be ordered. He came back a few days later and installed the board for an additional $50 labor fee. Dryer has been fine in the week since installation. F-P parts are expensive, but the labor cost and service rendered were very good and Joe was no drama and got the job done quickly. Instead of doing that, I watched a single youtube video about fridge repair, then bent down to look for the part of the fridge that was making the obviously broken-sounding high pitched whine, then googled its part number and bought a new one for $45. That fixed it, instantly. I didn't even need a screw driver. So their business model, it seems, is to half-ass the repair in order to lock you in, and then they sell you a new one for much more money than you'd pay elsewhere. Wouldn't be surprised if they then refurbish your old one and sell it on the side.
