The guy came out for $180, tried replacing the one part that he could reach without having to bend over, then declared that "there was a short somewhere" that would be impossible to find. "But," he offered, "you can use the $180 toward the purchase of a new model." Instead of doing that, I watched a single youtube video about fridge repair, then bent down to look for the part of the fridge that was making the obviously broken-sounding high pitched whine, then googled its part number and bought a new one for $45. That fixed it, instantly. I didn't even need a screw driver. So their business model, it seems, is to half-ass the repair in order to lock you in, and then they sell you a new one for much more money than you'd pay elsewhere. Wouldn't be surprised if they then refurbish your old one and sell it on the side. read more

Avoid at all costs! This place is the WORST!!!!!! I have been trying to fix a freezer for months! They did a shoddy and incomplete job, always left a mess, never honored appointments, were always late. It's the last straw today for the third appointment I've tried to make, they didn't make it here during the window and have the balls to call me and say they're backed up and moving me to another day and then saying I lied about the conversation I had earlier with them today about me being next and the guy coming at 11:30am. I don't typically write reviews, but just have to for these guys! I have a South End apartment with a Thermador range that needed a part that is no longer made. Other appliance repair companies told me to throw out this high end appliance and get new. Harrison Refrigeration actually took the time to research the problem, send out the problematic board to be refurbished, and got me back up and running. Also, super friendly and responsive to text messages. Very rare to have honest and hard working repairs done with such amazing customer service. All future jobs will go to Harrison without a doubt! My 4 year old Kenmore side by side would not defrost. Another company wanted to replace the main board for $650. Harrison came in and replaced the defrost thermostat in 45 minutes for 170 and it fixed the issue. Honest and quick service. They have all my business in the future. read more

Peter and the team at Harrison showed commitment, perseverance and deep knowledge in fixing our Bosch dishwasher. The 5-year-old appliance started failing. No one we talked to would inspect it without a large fee. The Harrison team made several trips to our house and ended up replacing major parts of the dishwasher. He even enlisted the help of a former employee, who also made repeated trips to our house. Peter was personally involved and ensured that the dishwasher returned to its working state. absolutely terrible 0/10. They installed a fridge the beginning of September and broke the handle while installing it. It took them until the last week of January to replace it. Same company installed a new dishwasher without realizing the water wasn't coming out. They replaced the new dishwasher with another new one without finding this issue and allowed me to use a dishwasher that wasn't cleaning properly for months. They give a three hour window for any appointment and either don't show at all or come an hour past the three hour window. Terrible communication read more

My experience with Harrison was excellent. They assessed my Malfunctioning 11-year-old refrigerator and determined that the condenser was gone. I could repair it, but that likely it would not be a wise decision. After reviewing information online, I agreed. Peter sent me several refrigerator options that would be appropriate for my space.His prices were in-line with what I could get elsewhere. I really wanted to support my local business and given that they were offering a good deal, I went with a GE French door refrigerator. Throughout the decision making process, Peter was very responsive to questions I had. Harrison delivered and installed on the date originally planned. Harrison Refrigeration has been great. I have always felt like a valued customer, even though I am sure we are nowhere near the volume of some of their bigger customers. We bought a washer and dryer back in 2017 (Speed Queen) that still run great and with two kids we use them all the time. Over the last year, we've bought a new range and a hood. It has been so easy and enjoyable. All the recommendations have been great and exactly what we need. I've been really impressed by Peter and his team. The delivery/install is always easy to coordinate and we love what we have purchased from them. I can't speak to repair services because we have not had to use them because they sell quality products. I strongly recommend Harrison, especially compared to the Home Depot's and Lowe's of the world. Whatever the extra cost is, is worth it with the piece of mind over the big box stores. Technician did not show up as scheduled. Further, he lied to his dispatcher about the customer's unavailablity. And the dispatcher kept changing the details which the technician relayed to him. The company would not send another technician to make the needed repair until the following week. (Two weeks after my initial call to schedule the appointment). I LOVE this place! I bought a house and needed new appliances. Went to Sears first (UGH) and was told for the $250 dishwasher I wanted, it would end up costing me over $600 and would be a 2-3 week wait for delivery. (The extra charges were for delivery, installation, and this or that type of permit). A relative recommended Harrison's. I got all of my appliances there, at comparable costs, with absolutely NO delivery fee and only a small charge for installing the dishwasher. There was no installation cost for the other appliances. AND they delivered 2 days later. They had great customer service. And they even gave me a deal when I went back months later to get another appliance. The one I wanted wouldn't work for my setup and it would be a delay to get the right part, so they gave me a better (and more expensive) one for the same price as the one I wanted. I wanted to like this place, I really did. We went in this morning looking to buy a washer and dryer. What I knew is that I wanted a front-loader. They had 3 models in the store, none of which had any information sheets on them to tell you the features. Our salesman talked about other models (but only from one manufacturer, is that all they sell? I couldn't get a clear answer on that.) but was basically doing research right in front of us on the manufacturers web site and the info there didn't seem to make any more sense to him than it did to me. If all I wanted was to click the "compare" button on a website, I would have stayed home and done it myself. We ended up going to Sears (I know, I know, I hate going to big box over local) and buying a set from a knowledgeable salesman who could explain the different features. read more

I can't praise owner, Peter Pappas, and Harrison Refrigeration & Appliance, enough! Approximately, two weeks ago, the refrigerator that came with my apartment, began losing coldness. Great---not what one needs during a pandemic! I began researching and calling refrigerator sales places, and every one of their sales people told me that they had refrigerators on back orders but had no idea when the refrigerators would actually come in. And what they did have, had terrible reviews. Then I discovered Harrison, and loved that they are a family business that's been around forever. Peter calmly and patiently went over all the refrigerators he had in stock, that fit the dimensions needed. He did all this while crazily busy, just prior to July 4 weekend! After I settled on one, he sent over his plumber, Rex, who was so knowledgeable, careful, and understanding. Along with Rex, were two outstanding delivery men. All of the guys took every precaution as to the pandemic, and left my apartment immaculate. And I received my beautiful refrigerator the day before July 4, which was perfect! read more

I've had 2 occasions to use their services in the past year for our 18 year old fridge (yes, it soldiers on!). First time was because the freezer was cold but the fridge was not. They charge a $65.00 fee to visit and diagnose the problem and then return in a few days to install the failed part, charging for parts & labor. They do not diagnose over the phone. They do not accept your diagnosis over the phone and bring the part you think it needs, since there's a good chance you are wrong and then they are stuck with a part to return and the right part to still order. So yes, it will take two visits. The second time,10 months later, our ice maker was leaking and creating icicles because the valve controlling water feed was bad. Two visits and fixed. But after a few days the icemaker stopped completely. This because the icemaker had become so covered with ice around the heat (or in this case cold) exchanger that it couldn't function. The tech arrive with a replacement and only charged their cost for the part (i.e. NOT with the usual 100% markup) and no labor charge (took the tech 1.5 hours to chip out the old unit and replace it) because they figured it probably should have been replaced the first time (even though it continued working for the week long interim). Pretty darn fair in my book. Hope you get the tech named "Will", he's a very talented man. read more

Our tenant had a problem with her oven. We thought it might be the ignitor mechanism. Called Peter, and he scheduled a technician to come within 2 days. Gave us a 3 hour window when the tech would arrive (between 2 to 5pm) and said that the tech would call when on the way. I told Peter we thought it might be the ignitor mechanism, and he asked the brand name of the unit. Gave me a quote over the phone for a flat fee to replace the mechanism. That fee included the initial "house call" fee. The tech called at 2:30 and said he'd be there in 20 minutes. Fixed it promptly. Paid with credit card on phone. Emailed receipt. All is well! We're totally satisfied, as the repair was a fraction of the cost of a new range. read more

I needed AC units for a rental property, I called around to a few places, most charge a ridiculous amount for delivery and installation. I assumed Harrison might not come out to Waltham, but I was wrong. Peter saved the day, he helped me choose the models based on the room sizes. I requested a specific delivery date before noon, no problem! The entire transaction was done over the phone with a Visa card. Peter was extremely helpful; delivery and installation went smoothly. I have bought appliances from Harrison Refrigeration since the 1990's. The store, located in Roslindale Village, has a good selection of appliances, and their prices are highly competitive. I have never had any problems with any of the appliances I have bought there and the Customer Service is outstanding. One time there was a dent in a dryer vent that I had purchased. I called and they replaced the vent the following day. Definitely check out this store when you are looking for an appliance. Peter is helpful, friendly and very knowledgeable about all of the items in his store. He is not pushy at all and will definitely make sure you are happy with your purchase. Currently, I need a new Air Conditioner. Harrison Refrigeration is the only place I will buy one. read more

I was so happy to hear that our landlords had gone to a highly rated local store when it came time to replace our refrigerator. Unfortunately, in this case, Harrison Refrigeration did not live up to the incredible service reviews they've received on Yelp. We were given a 3-hour window in which we could expect to receive the delivery. At one hour past the window I called to ask what was going on and was told they would call the truck and get back to me. An hour later I still hadn't heard back, so I called again and heard that it would be at least another hour before I could expect the truck. I received a long list of excuses but not actually an apology. The man on the phone seemed angry at me for being frustrated at having lost my afternoon to their poor service. When I asked if he planned to reimburse my landlords at all for this, he literally laughed at me. When the fridge was finally delivered, THREE hours past the delivery window, at 7 pm (and in a beat up, unmarked truck), they tore up the floors and walls and delivered a fridge that was filthy. They dropped screws and plastic parts all over the place, which didn't build confidence, and we had to pick up huge chunks of wall that fell off from the front door through to the kitchen during their banging around. When they left around 8:15, I spent an hour scrubbing the refrigerator, actually removing mold from the freezer. Three weeks later, it stopped working. We're now waiting for them to come pick up the fridge and deliver yet another new one. And, guess what? They're late, again. We will be buying a house in the coming year and, with it, will likely need new appliances; sadly, those appliances won't be coming from Harrison. They need to work on their customer service in a big way. **Wanted to add a quick edit -- though the company's service as a whole was not good, the four delivery guys we've met have been really nice, friendly, kind. I spent time comparison shopping for dryers on internet at sites like BestBuy, Sears, and Lowe's before stopping in here just to see how their appliances and prices compared. It was such a pleasure to shop there. They had the same brands, at similar or better prices. Delivery was free unlike the other stores. They coordinated with a plumber so that when the dryer was delivered it was set up right away. I have also used their repair services for other appliances and highly recommend them. I seriously love these guys, and I have never set foot in their shop. I have now called them twice prepared to buy new appliances from them (first a refrigerator and most recently a dishwasher), and both times I have been encouraged to try something else before I make the investment. In the first example, with the refrigerator, they explained to me EXACTLY what was causing the major leak that was flooding the shelves of my fridge, and they told me how to fix it (freezer issue, needed to be defrosted, major pain but it worked). In the second example, which happened mere moments ago, I called and spoke to Jimmy about my dishwasher, which I thought must be broken because it doesn't drain well and has always had an odor. Despite the fact that I was basically begging him to tell me I needed a new dishwasher (because I'm itching for one) he encouraged me to first clean the thing with dishwasher magic (which I had never heard of), and then try fixing the pipe. I'm writing this review because these guys seem to actually care about the situation, the customer, and weirdly enough, the appliance rather than gunning for the sale. And that is why, when it comes time to replace my disgusting dishwasher, I will go to Harrison's first. (Added bonus, each call took under 2 mins. They know their stuff). read more

I live in the city in a compact apartment. The apartment came with a 10 year old, 2 in 1 GE washer/dryer. After the washer started making airplane sounds on spinning, we called around to get someone to repair it (my preference over buying new). I had a technician come see it and he recommended replacement. We decided to get a "second opinion" and called Peter at Harrison. His technician was punctual and respectful. He took his time to inspect the machine and didn't immediately jump on "replace it" but offered to repair it. The part turned out to be obsolete and very expensive to replace so instead of buying a new 2 in 1, we decided to buy two separate machines, a front load washer & a dryer and to stack them. We opted for another GE because it had great reviews and would be easy to repair in the future (not the case on both with a Bosch). My compact apartment has an even more compact closet for the machines meaning installation would be tricky. We first ordered from Sears, the delivery men took a look at the closet and immediately said they would not fit. It was upsetting because we had measured and thought there was some leeway. We had to return the boxes. We decided to call Peter. He listened, looked up the machines, matched Sears price and had someone come and look at the closet. He said it could be done. We put an order in, and delivery came on time, brand new machines (with paperwork) were installed properly, there was no damage to walls during the delivery, and now, I almost love doing laundry! We are happy customers. Harrison is a great choice, especially if you live int he city and have a tricky installation situation. Peter can accomodate. read more

Try getting this level of service at Best Buy or any chain. I needed to replace my wall mount air conditioner, an extremely old model, perhaps the prototype. Peter was very helpful and knowledgeable, both over the phone and in person. He knew exactly what model was the replacement. And when I came in and was doubtful about it fitting, he spent time reviewing the measurements and how I should be measuring the wall sleeve. Prices are comparable, delivery and installation were included and the delivery guys were on time and did a good job installing the unit.. read more

Peter, the owner, is very knowledgeable. His father owned the business before him, so they are very attached to the neighborhood. I bought a fridge from him some months back. I did a lot of research and thought I knew what I wanted, but he advised us that a lot of those models had been coming back for repairs. He recommended a different model, which was no more expensive, and gave us a better price than any of the big-box stores, plus free delivery. We've been thrilled with the fridge and are planning to buy a washer/dryer from him this week as well. read more

I have bout a washer/dryer, then later a dishwashwasher. What a fantastic place! Don't know why I went in initially, as it seemed kind of dumpy with very limited options;. But Peter is the 2nd generation owner, and knows everything about appliances. He doesn't push; recommends option froma huge variety of brands; and arranges prompt, courteous delivery and installation;. It is wonderful, one-stop shopping without going to a big box store. And, here's the kicker, it costs LESS than the big boxes, even when they are having sales. I don't know how he does it...but I'm glad he does!
