It's fresh and filling and satisfies the question, did I eat any vegetables today? Pan sauteed chicken with a light white sauce, plenty of bell pepper, celery, onion and almonds. No rice, no noodles, just simple. When I need a low-key, quiet place for a simple meal, Eastside Chef fills the bill. They limit their menu for lunch. All the entrees comes with chicken fried rice and supposedly chicken chow Mein. No chicken in either the rice or the Chow Mein. Though the Chow Mein was tasty. Lastly, don't ask for water it taste like rust and expect to pay well over $4.00 for a soft drink. I've lived on this side of West Sac for years and finally decided to stop in at Eastside Chef for a late lunch. I was seated very quickly when I arrived. There are a lot of tables and booths inside the restaurant. Plenty of parking as it's located in the Town Center Plaza. I arrived a bit too late for the lunch specials, so decided to go with a combination plate. I had the orange chicken and the plate came with pork friend rice, an egg roll and bowl of soup. I ordered the wonton soup. The wonton soup was very light and subtle. The orange chicken was delicious. The breading was light and I could taste the orange, which was fantastic. The egg roll was super crispy. The fried rice was a little dry and just warm, but everything else was hot and fresh. All of the servers checked on me frequently and boxed up my food when I was done. I am always on the hunt for authentic Chinese food in my area and found Eastside Chef while searching on Yelp! The moment we walked in we were greeted and seated. Greeted with the most friendly and polite manner. I always ask what's the servers favorite dish which I am sure gets asked often but I'm always curious- so I asked. I was provide 3 of the servers favs and picked the sesame chicken. I also tried the general chicken and grabbed the Mongolian beef to go. The lunch special comes with fried rice and chow meringues. You can also opt for all chow mien and all fried rice- up to you. The flavors for the sesame chicken were sweet and tangy and liked the sesame seed flavor to it. The general chicken was just as tasty! The chicken was crunchy drenched in the sauce. I mixed my chow mien in the left over sauce and it was perfect. Ohhh they have fountain soda and the server was so observant we didn't even have to ask, came over and refilled the cup. saw the reviews on this place and feels like i got duped. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken lunch special to go. it was $15 and I got like 5 little pieces of chicken with a crap ton of filler vegetables. celery, onions, etc. the sauce and flavor was good but why do you have to put so much rice and chow main and barely any of the main dish? thanks for nothing! i guess if you order to go be prepared for very little protein. instead of putting the main dish you ordered in the center part of the Togo box they stuff that with chow mein, what you ordered is put in the small upper compartment and finally rice in the other small compartment. I just left a few minutes ago. Normally I take a while to do my yelp reviews, but I just had to draft this right now. I had a freaking amazing meal. I ordered the combo. My chicken chow mein was freaking so good so much flavor, I also had orange chicken and that was also amazing. And everything was hot. It's a big pet peeve of mine when the food comes out of the kitchen warm. If that wasn't enough, the service was out of this world. It is so rare today for people to treat you with kindness and actually care about your experience at their establishment. Aaron and Coco you're so sweet and hospitable. They made sure to fill my drink and offer more napkins. These are the little things that we take for granted these days. I definitely would've taken a photo of my food, but the smell was getting to me. I had to scarf it down. My mom lives near here and takes out fr here often. We have been enjoying it whenever we visit fr the city. I had the lunch special and it was nothing special. General chicken and rice. The amount of chicken given was ridiculous. The steamed rice was overcooked. We are West Sacramento locals so we love East Side Chef! They have huge serving sizes and fair prices for dinner and really good lunch specials. The staff are always really nice and are very quick even when it comes to takeout orders. The location is large and cozy and in the middle of a shopping center with lots of other things to do around it. I was looking forward to trying this place, but was disappointed. Their food is just not that good. The honey walnut shrimp has a weird sauce drizzled on top and has no flavor, it was more deep fried with little sauce. I was expecting the shrimp to be tossed in the sauce and covered, no they just drizzled it over it and it didnt even taste like honey walnut shrimp...very strange. Even their pork fried rice has bean sprouts in it which throws the consistency and flavor off. Wonton soup was oily with little flavor. Spring roll was not good either. I assumed, like most Chinese restaurants, that steamed rice would be charged per order, not per person at the table. I ordered a side of steamed rice and was shocked to find I was charged $23 just for rice. Absolutely ridiculous. The chow mein was great and the fried chicken was decent, but everything else we ordered lacked flavor. On top of that, the customer service was subpar--no explanation or heads-up about the pricing. It just felt like we were being taken advantage of. Highly don't recommend ordering the steamed rice if you're dining as a group. Horrible service walked in to grab some lunch wasn't greeted at all. The lady walks over and rudely asks me if I'm ready to order I tell her I need a minute she walks away comes back and hurries me to order. I asked for no peanuts in my kung pao chicken by doing so I only received check and no veggies. I also ordered a large wonton soup and only received two very small pieces of wontons. We decided to try it for a weekday lunch. it is located in the Nugget Shopping center next to Round Table. They have several lunch items for $10-12 that come with rice and chow mein, rice bowls, or soups. We usually stick with water but boy it tasted so weird that we had to order a soda after the fact. It smelled and tasted like a fresh band-aid is the best I can describe it, lol. I wanted just a side of wings and while crispy, didn't have the traditional salt & pepper flavoring. I was down in Sac visiting a friend and we decided to get Chinese food to go for dinner. She knew this place so OK. It's really easy to find in a big shopping center strip mall, plenty of parking. She used the handicap spot right in front of the restaurant. We walked in and ordered. We got beef fried rice, tomato beef chow mein, the fried chicken wings and some of the general's chicken sauce to go by special request. Did you know the general's sauce goes super with fried crispy wings? The food was pack and ready to go in a timely manner, so no probs there. Getting back to her house, we unpacked our dinner. Food was super hot, so no cold food here! The fried rice was tasty as was the tomato beef chow mein. Kinda reminds me of spaghetti! The wings were the star of the dinner! OMG, slathered in that sauce.... yummers! Friend added sesame seeds for looks.
