The staff was easily able to accommodate our party of 8 although we probably should have chosen outdoor dining since we were a bit cramped indoors. We were treated to live music which provided nice entertainment. The waitstaff was extremely friendly and helpful. The menu consisted of Italian and seafood options and was consistently good. We ordered 5 appetizers, entrees and several bottles of wine which were all delicious. I've never had a bad meal at Ebby's and we're looking forward to our next visit. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. I very very rarely post reviews on here but this must be said: HAD THE WORST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE EVER, hands down - will NEVER patronize or recommend this place. Had reservation for 8 at 7pm, arrived at 6:55 and had a late cancel of two of our party. There was an 8-top open and ready. Because we informed them we were two fewer the hostess (middle aged blond lady) refused to seat us - which doesn't make sense because as a party of six we would have needed to be sat at an 8-top most likely anyway. BUT we were cool about it and moved over to the bar (bartenders Liz and Tony were fantastic and even whipped up an amazing mocktail for me). By 7:30 and a couple of check-ins with the hostess - and there are now TWO 8-tops open - we're like hey what's going on and she says "this is just how things work" (!!!!) one of our party says "if it's a matter of money we've just spent over $100 here at the bar"She ignored us, but then a few minutes later came back over specifically to chastise us for "being rude" to HER and that WE SHOULD LEAVE. Absolutely OUTRAGEOUS. then she literally followed us outside as we were leaving! So sad they lost not only a $500 table but all future revenue from our group who dines out FREQUENTLY at Shore establishments. We've heard the food was very good and we were looking forward to dancing and spending a lot more money at the bar. Your restaurant is within walking distance from our home. We have supported your business through the off-season and have occasionally experienced long waits, including times when the restaurant was not particularly busy, because the food is good and the waitstaff is incredibly polite. That loyalty ended because of your unhinged and obnoxious behavior. My 20-year-old granddaughter was meeting friends and had requested a table for four at Ebby's. When her friends couldn't make it, she immediately and politely told the waitress, offering to move to a table for two. The waitress agreed, but you flew into a rage. You publicly accused my granddaughter of being a "liar" and angrily grabbed her food and plates to move her. It was a hostile and completely unnecessary overreaction that deeply humiliated and upset a polite young lady who had done absolutely nothing wrong. Ironically, the table sat completely empty after the scene you made. Your behavior is also not something that appears to be unique. Anyone can look at Yelp and Google and find numerous other customers describing similar experiences with your combative attitude toward patrons. This trashy and embarrassing behavior is exactly why the New Jersey Shore sometimes gets the reputation it does. Who is next to show up at your restaurant--Snooki or Teresa from the Housewives of NJ to flip over a table? There is absolutely NO excuse for an owner to publicly berate a young customer--let alone the granddaughter of a loyal, decade-long patron. I gave you an opportunity to respond to this message and explain what happened. It has now been more than two weeks, and I have heard absolutely nothing from you. So now I am going to share our experience publicly on Yelp, Tripadvisor, and with our local Ocean County community so that other customers can make their own informed decisions about where they choose to spend their money. Had a reservation for 6pm for 4 people . We waited over s half hour watching others come in and be sat. It was hot crowded with no room to wait . The hostess was nasty at best . We were sat at 720 by the bathroom stuffed in behind another table with a larger person behind me . I couldn't even pull my seat out to sit. Why make reservations? I've never been spoken to do disrespectfully by a young hostess in my 55 years of life. Terrible customer service . My first yelp. NO STARS but Yelp makes you leave at least one. Such an awful experience had to write. ABSOLUTELY one of the worst dining experiences. The owner is flat out nasty. I made a reservation through their answering service on 7/18 then realizing we had the wrong date. I wrote back to cancel and this is the response I received ME:Please cancel my 4:30 reservation EBBY: Please Stop we are too busy for this Nonsense. So chalking it up to it NOT being the restaurant but an answering service (so I thought) we went in for dinner tonight. Mistake. The busboy when serving the pasta had his thumb in the plate. We had to keep asking for drinks. And flies everywhere. Ok it is summer and I chalk it up to that. On the way out I approached the hostess/ owner and said just an FYI the company you hired for reservations wasn't very nice. Just wanted you to know. We showed her the text and she BLAMED ME!! She said I took it wrong and went on and on. Then she tells me that those were her employees that SHE trained. As I was walking out she said in a nasty condescending way I hope you're well. I have given this restaurant two chances, and both experiences were unacceptable. On both visits, we had reservations, yet we were seated at a high-top table that was completely inappropriate for my elderly mother. We politely asked the hostess, Tina, if we could be moved to a standard table. Instead of showing any empathy or trying to help, she responded, "It's what we have, not what you want." That level of disrespect toward paying customers was shocking. What made the situation even more frustrating was that there were standard tables sitting empty. We were told they were being held for later reservations, even though we had arrived for our reservation and were there first. Rather than accommodating the guests who were already in the restaurant, they chose to prioritize people who hadn't even arrived yet. After asking if there was anything that could be done, Tina disappeared and never came back to speak with us. We stood waiting for approximately 20 minutes with no update, no apology, and no effort to resolve the situation. To make matters worse, while we were waiting, the bartender became rude and confrontational. Instead of helping or showing any professionalism, he started making comments and harassing us while we were simply waiting to see if Tina would make an accommodation. The complete lack of customer service, compassion, and basic respect was unbelievable. No customer--especially one with an elderly family member--should be treated this way. After experiencing this for the second time, we decided to leave without dining and took our business elsewhere. We will not be returning, and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone who expects courteous service or staff who are willing to make reasonable accommodations. The rumors are unfortunately true. The hostess with the mostest is back! As a local I have always supported local businesses but tonight at Ebby's was unconscionable. If your front is the most important part of your business & your business is hospitality, you shouldn't have a nasty liar who can't even juggle 25 tables representing your restaurant. Our reservations for 2 were promised that a certain table would be ours when the patrons were done. We were repeatedly ignored for an hour while tables for 2 were pushed together for larger, more profitable groups to be seated. When we questioned where our table was, we were asked to get up from the bar so she could seat another party! Hopefully they can count on summer visitors but locals see you & won't patronize a place where people are treated this way. We have been here many times before, but this time was a horrible experience! We had a reservation for 3 people. We were placed at a table steps away from the door. We asked to be moved because the sun was shining in our eyes where we couldn't even read the menu, even though there were plenty of other tables. They would not move us. Plus customers and servers were bumping into us. Our waiter was nice, but the owner, Tina, was extremely rude from the start. She came to our table, took a chair away and then put it at a table in our table space, crowding us by squeezing another customer in. As the night went on, the DJ arrived and people started dancing in the limited space. She came over to our table before we had even finished paying the bill, put her drink on our table, and told us to leave, that they needed the table gone for dancing space. We hadn't even finished paying our bill, our food was still being wrapped. She then picked a fight with my friend, who didn't say a word, just looked upset. She told us to go somewhere else if we didn't like it and don't come back. She accused my friend of drinking too much. My friend doesn't even drink! The food is pretty consistent, server was so nice unfortunately they get the brunt of the kitchen not being able to handle the amount of ppl being seated. I'm not one to normally leave reviews on restaurants as they are usually someone's means of living and supporting their family. But in this case I felt it was necessary to leave this review. I have never experienced such bad hospitality in my life from the hostess's and the owner as well. I had a reservation for a set time and they told me it would be about 35-45 more minutes after I got to my reservation on time. This wasn't the issue. I understand a busy weekend makes things hectic. Had a wonderful dinner at Ebbys last night! Our friends Tom and Carmen are regulars and Tammy the Tornado and I are great friends of theirs. We got to meet the owner Tina and that was as big a treat as the delicious food we were served. I had their chicken parm which was cooked to perfection. Thin and crispy with the best red sauce I've had in years! Tom had some kind of veal dish with a giant bone that looked like something Fred Flintstone would order. All laughs until I tasted it. Frickin delicious! Carmen had the shrimp parmigiana which I didn't even know existed! Again, tasted hers and wanted more more more. At the table also was two of Tom's friends who ordered the salmon special and something else I can't recall. To be honest with you those two guys were giving off some serious serial killer vibes. Kidding. Everything was seasoned and cooked to perfection! If I didn't live 3000 miles away I'd be as regular as Tom and Carmen. Tina is the kind of restaurant owner you rarely meet. This place is horrendous and if you go here you go at your own risk. The owner works the front desk and doesn't give 2 shits about the customers. We waited for 3 hours and 15 min for a table after she promised one at 7:30 which was already a half an hour past our reservation time. Then she offered to comp an app we had at the bar because we were starving and couldn't wait but that NEVER HAPPENED. Finally got seated at a crappy table in the back near the bathrooms and to add insult to injury the meal took another 45 minutes to come out! The drinks are horrible as well my dirty martini tasted like dirty water and was the farthest thing from a dirty martini!!! The bartender sucks anyone who says their drinks are good does not know what a good drink is and must be used to drinking crappy drinks. The place is a complete shit show. Every time I went outside to smoke I heard someone complaining about waiting forever with a reservation. They don't know how to run this place at all they don't care about their customers at all. Oh and she also said she would comp dinner after we waited 3 hours and did not follow through with her promise besides comping a $6 glass of wine. And to top it all off she spent the night dancing on the dance floor having fun while her customers were MISERABLE and starving and had a horrible time. Do yourself a favor and don't believe the hype on social media and stay away from this place!!! They have their comment section on every post on Instagram turned off for a REASON I AM SURE!!!!! Years and years ago, this use to be a core restaurant for the neighborhood. It use to be half deli half restaurant and my family would come here multiple times a week. The food use to be top notch, probably because the restaurant they use to have catered to less people and many folks took food to go through the deli area. I came here again over the summer, and I was excited to do so. The deli area has officially turned into an entire restaurant which was really nice but also a little depressing because I have many of my core childhood memories in this place. I was so exited to sit down and eat with my family. With my reservation, we waited about a half hour. After we sat we ordered our food, and they ran out of bread. Idk what Italian restaurant runs out of bread but to each their own. The appetizers and the dinner left very little to be desired (my pasta was completely undercooked) and I left very disappointed because it was not the great Italian food I loved and remembered. To Whom It May Concern, On our recent visit to your restaurant, my friend suffered an unfortunate accident. She fell on the lip of the steps at the threshold while entering your establishment. As a result, she broke her glasses and her hand, eye and chest are now severely bruised (black and blue). What made matters worse was how the situation was handled. We received no assistance, no gesture of goodwill-- not even a simple offer of water or a seat. When we brought the matter to the attention of Tina, instead of addressing our concern with empathy, she was dismissive, argumentative, and even began recording us with her phone. The way this was handled was unacceptable. Accidents happen, but the lack of care, professionalism, and compassion shown was shocking. Because of this experience, we will not be returning to your restaurant. Furthermore, we intend to share our experience on Yelp, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and other social platforms so others are aware of how customers are treated in situations like this. Short version: - long wait (+1 hr with confirmed reservation) - quality of food (pasta was not thawed) - racist entertainer - management who denied racist harassment (until confronted with video evidence) "DJ"'Chris Anthony Segarra of "Legendery" Entertainment made racially-charged jokes and harassed my family as part of his entertainment. He humiliated my American family in front of the restaurant. The manager denied of the incident saying that we misunderstood the situation until shown video evidence. The DJ started a bit saying "anyone named Anthony in the house?" I point to my dad, Anthony, to which Chris laughs "HA, no way THAT guy is Anthony, he looks more like a Ching Wong. You look straight outta Korea." My dad pulled out his ID to reveal his legal name is actually Anthony. Instead of apologizing, he turned to the rest of our party, wagging the mic in their faces yelling "YOU, well you definitely don't have an American name. YOU must be Ching Wong" We called him racist, he laughed in our faces. We demanded an apology. He laughed and danced away. He kept taunting us throughout the night, repeatedly coming back to touch and harass my family. At one point he came over screaming "Come on! I was just living in the moment!" After we paid the bill (which was over $500+) my mom went up to the manager--my mom was then hushed and escorted outside. The manager then denied knowing about the situation of what had happened. Only after we said we had video evidence, the manager switched saying "what can I buy you? what can I give you? tell me what I can do please don't post a video". Instead of going back into the restaurant or assuring us there would be at least a stern 'talking to' and addressing the harasser, she whispered that she was "sorry" and added in "I like your shoes!" as she walked away. read more

I like Ebbys, A lot.... but this year its not the same service. I just returned from a special anniversary dinner with my wife and a grown grand daughter. Our waiter seemed to be in such a hurry, he couldn't wait one extra minute to recite the specials. I watched the next table ask FOUR times to have the empty water bottle removed from their table. We enjoyed our meal, but we asked for 2 coffees and instead, we were served with our check!! ( here's your hat, what's your hurry!) I opened the check folder and examed our bill. I went to enter the tip and sign the bill, but the only copies were the customers!! It appears to me that the service staff needs some training before the full summer crowd shows up. It is sad to see a place I loved and grew up going to every year change so much and a family tradition ruined. I haven't been in a few years but I also tell people it is one of my favorite Italian resturants and always recommend it but I will not anymore. I remember when they were half resturant half pizzeria and bakery the food was soooo good! Then the pizzeria and bakery was across the street. Now the pizzeria and bakery are gone. I made a reservation Monday afternoon for Friday evening at 8pm. We arrived on time and there was a bunch of people waiting outside. I went inside to check in with the host and was told they have a list they will call me once my table was ready. There were people outside waiting since 7pm which was alarming. I checked in with the host every 20 minutes and was told the samething. Then around 9pm the manager blonde hair nasty attitude came out to let us know the kitchen is ready to cook for you as soon as the tables are ready....we have a bunch of walkins waiting. So the crowd is like we are not walkins we are reservations ‍. She said I have a 15 top since 5 but they wont leave. All of us outside are like well 3 hours dont you have a table limit isnt it your job to manage the floor and the reservations??? Her response I'm not doing this now and walked away. 20 minutes later she comes and tries to seat me outside which the host had me down for an inside table so I explained I am waiting for an inside table her response is I have these tables you can go inside if you find a table seat yourself. Great management and customer service!!!!! Fortunately I found Joe who helped us find a table. If it wasn't for Joe and his amazing service my night would Have been completely ruined. The appetizers were good but by time we were seated and got food it was 10pm they had a dj so music was loud and I didn't want to eat that late. I ordered the Ebbys Bucatini in a cognac sauce and it was basically a thick white alfredo sauce not sure where the cognac was I ate a piece of shrimp and that was it. My daughters grilled shrimp dish was mediocre the mashed potatoes were dry and I have had better shrimp. We didnt stay for dessert because honestly I was no disappointed in the dinner I was looking forward to all week that I just did not want to stay. If you want to be treated like shit by management and in an overcrowded cramped resturant with loud music eatting dinner at 10pm this place is for you if you want to be treated properly and enjoy your dinner make a reservation anywhere else!! read more

I made a reservation at Ebby's on 7/27/24 for 8/17/24. When we called the week before to confirm, the reservation was lost. The owner, Tina, offered family style dining instead. The highest priced appetizer and dinner we chose was $42 combined. Tina told us it would be $65 per person (not including alcohol, tax and tip). The extra $23 per person was to cover soda and coffee. We said "no thank you" and said we'd rather order from the menu We had a 6:30 reservation. Our group started arriving around 6, but we were told we could not be sat until our entire party arrived. By 6:45, our table was broken down and others were sat. Parking is also abysmal- there is no parking specifically for Ebby's and very little street parking. Tina was claiming it was past 7pm at this point, we showed her on our watches and phones that the time was actually 6:46pm... which she tried to deny. While I understand there are expectations of restaurant patrons, Tina should have mentioned this at least once in the many times we spoke. As the owner of this establishment, Tina should also be aware of the parking situation. She then insinuated that the wait would not be long and she would make it up to us with free drinks... this was not the case. She wanted us to buy overpriced, watered down drinks at the bar outside. The purple haze "specialty" drink was undrinkable to several of us. The cosmo I had was more or less cranberry juice in a martini glass. I also observed several other reservations waiting, while friends of the owners got right into the restaurant without a problem. Two hours later, my family and I had waited long enough. My brother asked Tina for our cake and he was ignored. My second brother asked for the cake 15 minutes later. Finally, Tina came outside screaming at me about how ridiculous I was being for wanting to leave. I understand that loosing a party of 20 is a monetary loss to her business, the way she handled this situation and her behavior was completely unacceptable. Not only that, my brother witnessed her talking badly about us for leaving after two hours. She felt that it was okay to speak to me and other customers this way because "it's a free country". It is a free country. This is why after waiting for two hours and multiple family members being insulted by Tina, it was time to go. Why would I ask my family to stay and give this restaurant business when they treated us so poorly? The fact that Tina couldn't seem to grasp the problem with her behavior was astounding. The entire experience was horrible... lost reservation, refusing to seat us, the wait time and the rudeness throughout it all. As someone who waitressed and bartended for 10 years, I have never witnessed such unprofessional, nasty behavior. Ebby's clearly does not understand how the restaurant business is run. The next day, I read the reviews- it is very clear that Tina's behavior is the norm and this establishment is consistently run in this way. To be fair, she did offer us a $100 gift card the next day. I believe this was offered to us because she didn't want the negative reviews our party of 20 promised. Save your money and your sanity and go to any other restaurant on the island. Lastly, I want to give a shout to Lenny's in Lavallette for saving the day. We called them as they were closing, but explained our Ebby's nightmare and they made us food. The place it nicely designed and quiet beautiful. Ordered the veal parmigiana with capellini pasta. It was amazing - the food was delicious. Ordered a Kentucky Lemonade which was good. We had three different waitstaff to take care of us which was confusing. Overall I would go again. read more
