I came in on a whim to try see their selection and take a test ride. They were busy and booked with test ride appointments but while I was there they squeezed me in between others. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable about their product and helped me understand the different offerings. Owner Wake is super dedicated and attentive, tour guide Sarah is a sweetheart and very funny, sales person Richard is very personable, and shop employees Jeff & Pat are super helpful and knowledgeable. They gave me all the information I needed, presented different options, encouraged me to take test rides on as many bikes as I wanted, provided a loaner bike until "the one" came in, tracked down the right model and size from out of state, put it together and accessorized it in record time, and delivered it to my office in person! sorry, but it's gotta be all caps: I LOVE MY NEW ELECTRIC BIKE!!!!!!! and now I can't see any other "regular" bike riders without feeling pity for them because they are not as cool as me. This is especially wonderful as I ride uphill PAST my beloved with my electric assist! But to the store: The owner and his wife are friendly and super helpful. I went in for test rides 3 times before I handed him my credit card and rode away on the first bike that fits me and fits my mind. (You see, I hate struggling when biking uphill.) They answered all of my questions and I had plenty. They sell the bikes with "everything"... lights, rack, odo/speedometer. (I hate it when you buy something for a lot of money and then you have to spend More to get it really functional.) A 90 day tune-up is also included, as is a safety class. We went here a few weeks ago with some out of town visitors to rent them bikes. Upon arrival to the store about 10 minutes after they opened that morning, right away it seemed pretty chaotic (there was lots of talk of how much they hated and how worthless Sunday Parkways was to their business which, unbeknownst to us, was happening in the neighborhood). They didn't have the bikes ready despite our having made reservations 2 weeks in advance nor was one of the staff helping us sure of the procedure for rentals and she also couldn't get confirmation of what to do from any of her coworkers. Although it didn't feel like she cared much because I'm not actually sure that she worked there? The other staff was all over the place and it was hard to keep them focused on getting us going (we got ignored on and off for 20-30 minutes and had to keep asking to be helped over and over again). Overall, the place seemed pretty crazy and we finally left the store almost 1 hour after arriving with the rental bikes. On the upside, the bikes worked great and when we returned 4 hours later the store was much calmer and the return process was over in 5 minutes or less. It might've been just an off day for everyone but it certainly felt strange and was an experience that I've never had at any other business I've ever been to. I'm hopeful we were just an anomaly especially given the other positive reviews. The one other very weird thing was the main guy was very vocal about his anger/frustration with his staff and with Sunday Parkways which made us feel very awkward. I can't say enough good things about the Ebike Store and my experience purchasing my Gazelle Arroyo C8. I was completely new to ebikes and wanted an incentive to bike to work, which I never did with my standard bike because the hills were so off-putting. Robert asked what my needs and preferences were, showed me a few models, gave great instructions, and took me on a test ride through Peninsula Park. When I needed a couple brake adjustments, I just stopped in and they took care of it right then. (I wish I could remember the name of that service employee...he was great!) When I was looking for a particular style basket that they didn't have in stock, they ordered it in for me. My best interaction though was with Bryan when I wanted to see if my dog would tolerate the Buddyride doggy bike seat. Ahead of my visit, he installed the floor model on a the same model bike I have and let me bring my dog into the store to try it out. He gave me tips on installation and let me take my pup on a test ride, which he did amazing on, very much to my surprise (he had "failed" two bike trailers). I had never heard of the Buddyrider until I saw it in the store, but I'm so glad I found it, and so thankful for Bryan's help in making it work for my anxious pup so I can take my best friend with me on bike adventures. I LOVE my new bike, and it has gotten me so much more active. An ebike doesn't give as much of a workout as a standard bike, but way more of one than driving my car! E-bikes are fun! My wife and I dropped into this store to check out an e-bike for my mother in law. Robert gave us a tour of his shop and we had a great time! We each ended up riding 3 different bikes. All of them were comfortable, easy to ride, and FAST! The prices, while not cheap, are very reasonable considering you can ride one of these bikes to work every day, beat traffic, and never pay for gas, vehicle maintenance, or parking ever again. If you haven't tried riding an e-bike already, do it! They're fun! read more

Also found out I needed a new tire and sold me an almost new tire for a very reasonable price. Highly recommend these guys just for being super nice and accommodating when they had no obligation to. He did a fantastic job of explaining the differences in the different type of e-bikes and se settled on the Specialized. After we bought the bike, he and his staff did an excellent job of going over the bike and preparing it for us. Though we did not end up purchasing a bike from the eBike Store Wake and his staff were amazingly helpful. It was a shopping experience like none other. Wake answered all of our questions and then took us on a test ride. He was very kind to our 10 year old daughter and even adjusted her handlebars. We live int he neighborhood, and really wanted to support a good neighbor like the eBike store, but had very specific needs when it comes to the type of bike we need at this time. 8/20/2018 Update Very rarely do you find a place that goes out of their way to make things right, but kudos to Wake. He called right after this review (I will say he was gone when we finally left that night, so he probably didn't realize how everything played out until this review.) He reimbursed us for the rental and paid for my husband's helmet. He explained that they were in the process of moving to being open 7 days a week and there were a few bugs to still work out and we got caught in the transition. You simply can't ask for more from a company. Things happen and when someone owns the problem and tries to make it right, it just doesn't get any better than that. So yes, they are a 5. ******************************* This is the kind of review I don't like to write because it has so many moving parts, but in the end, it comes down to the fact my husband's bike wasn't ready and we spent 4 hours (yes, 4 hours) at the shop waiting for it. We have to rent a U-Haul van to carry my three wheeler plus the bike my husband was buying, so it costs money, time to go back and forth to the rental place and is in general, inconveniencing to come back. On Tuesday, August 31, we picked up rental bikes and loved them. My husband called on Wednesday and spoke with Brian, saying he would be buying his bike and arranged a pick up time on Friday at 11:00 AM to get his new bike. He explained the extras he wanted (basket, lights, helmets). I was trying to decide what to do. My rental was the only three wheel they had, the only one I could find of that brand in the local area and it would be at least a month before a new bike would be in stock. I wasn't sure if I should buy the rental or wait and buy new. On Wednesday, I called and spoke with Brian, and let him know I had decided to buy the rental bike. There were a few extra lights, helmets, basket, water bottle and seat, but nothing much to do to mine. Again, confirming we would be there Friday at 11:00 to have mine worked on and pick up Jim's bike. We indicated that we knew we would have to wait about an hour or so, to have the things done to my bike. Jim's bike was to be ready to go and picked up at that time. On Friday when we arrived, it took about the hour or so that we expected to do the things for my bike. When mine was almost done, we started asking about Jim's bike. They couldn't find it. We left for lunch walking to a nearby cafe. When we returned, long story short, the bike hadn't been put together and was now in process. Where the communication broke down I'm not sure, but after 2 phone calls reminding them of the pick up on Friday, it was very disappointing to not have Jim's bike done. (It was a Gazelle, a very popular model.) So, there's the 4 hour wait. Everyone was kind, and tried to make it right, but the reality is, the bike wasn't ready and we waited 4 hours. Kudos go to Jeff who really stepped in and worked hard on our behalf. I really wish I give give a higher rating Perhaps, after our first service call, but right now this is as good as I can go. read more

I've never had a better experience in a bike shop! The owner is open, friendly, trustworthy and seems to have a true love for biking. He is willing to answer your questions kindly and enthusiastically. Because of him I have a bike I adore and ride almost every single day. The selection of bikes seems very diverse, with something for everyone. The bikes are all high-quality brands, so no fear of a piece of junk breaking in 3 months, or highly dubious modifications. The store itself is clean & modern with a comfy couch. I appreciate the bike pump they have out front for anyone to use. Some shops can be intimidating or daunting, but not so at the eBike Store! I was a passenger in a car accident and resultantly disabled for about a year and a half. I was so desperate to be on a bike again and thought with a little electric support I would not have to wait until full recovery to be riding. I ventured in, nervously, and was greeted by friendly knowledgeable staff who took time to explain the bikes thoroughly from both a mechanical and joyride perspective. He (Patrick) was so warm and invested that I brought my housemate in and we rented bikes to try out electric. It was like riding for the first time, so joyful. I noticed most how much less terrifying danger zones like passing on the right or starting through an intersection were with pedal assist. We both had a fantastic time on our rentals and decided to purchase a model that had a throttle, a step through and a dreamy paint job. The exact same model as each other, as it turned out the shop only had one left. Heart.Broken. But then the owner, Wake, was on it! He called every bike store in Portland and then many up and down the West Coast trying to find my fantasy bike. He suggested peeking around for a different frame around town while he continued his search, just in case. We went in to snag a few accessories for my housemate as we waited on my frame and were pleasantly surprised to find that the young woman assisting us was equally enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We went to a handful of other bike stores to see what there was,from downtown to southeast the prices were higher for everything from accessories to bikes including bike rentals being double other places. Hands down the Bike Store had the most bang for the buck on top of incredible service. Flash forward two weeks Wake has found my bike and has it shipped to the store only to find it was not the step through he ordered. This is the part where all hope seemed to be gone right before the relentless and devoted Wake tracked down my frame in Ashland, Oregon and drove it up to Portland on his day off. He even delivered it to me at work. Talk about above and beyond! The people here love riding and bicycles and maybe even you a little bit. I could not be more *thrilled* with my purchase even as frugal as I am. This place feels like the best kind of small business, for the community and run by your neighbors. read more

We brought in 2 new identical ebikes for repair: one needed a screw replaced in the kickstand, both needed brake adjustment for squeaks. In the end, the squeak was repaired on only one bike. They ended up charging us more than double what they initially quoted, claiming they needed to replace the new kickstand (because they couldn't find a screw?) - when we got it back, an entirely different kickstand was returned to us as being the part they supposedly replaced (we therefore believe they didn't actually change out the part for a new one, but charged us for it nonetheless). Also, the cargo strap for one of the bikes was now missing. The worker went back to look for it, couldn't find it, and replaced it with different cargo strap that does not fit the bike. In spite of the staff being friendly (albeit quite inefficient with their computer documentation and appointment set-ups) we cannot recommend this store for repairs (parts gone missing, work claimed to be performed but not, parts claimed to be replaced but not). Maybe they do better on the sales side. read more

I took my adult trike to the eBike Store to get it converted last May because I need assistance biking up the steep hills of Portland. They were so nice and professional. They were able to finish the conversion in a couple of days, they showed me how to operate the newly converted ebike and let me go on a test run to make sure there were no problems before they sent me on my way. And later when I had a mishap with my battery, I brought my bike to their store where they fixed my battery problem for free. THEY ARE THE BEST!!! And I strongly recommend their shop to anyone interested in an eBike or conversion. read more

Wade is such a jerk to customer and is emploies . i went to have some work gone there ,and Wade put my bike up on the bike racks to work on it { ha ha ha } for some reason he was trying to look like he knew what he was doing and flipped my bike up side down , and my battiers fell out of my saddle bag and fell 5 feet off the ground. I love the Ebike Store! The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable, and they remember me and my bike when I go in. They recently did an extremely thorough check of my bike after a driver hit me-and only charged for a brake adjustment, not the hours they'd spent going over it. They have a great selection of bikes and I always find something new and cool when I go in. I was bummed to learn that the city zoning code prohibits them from working on non-electric bikes, because otherwise I'd bring all of my bikes to this shop. Phone review: I did my best to explain the bike I own and what I thought was the problem. I eliminated several disappointing reviews with that call. 1 being the time the shop opens and closes. 2 traveling to the store and finding out if this Ebike shop can, will or don't work on my particular bike 3 recommendations for a place that might take on my bike needs. My answer from the phone call? "Why don't you bring her in and let me take a look at it". To me those words made my situation personal. I adore these guys. I asked tons of stores all the way to Seattle to help with my repair and ONLY Portland ebikes came through. Including the place I bought my bike (cough cough coventry...) who said they couldn't help. I bought a Dahon Roo el electric assist ebike and when I took it out of my garage last summer I stepped on a bunch of wires. Oops. Willing to spend whatever to get it up and going. But no one will take me on. Frustrating! But when I took it in to their shop they promised to contact the manufacturer and order parts and try to figure it out. End of story: they called heaps of people, figured it out, its better than new and MUCH under budget. I LOVE these guys and my business will always go to them.
