Finally checked out Ebiko in SF after seeing it all over my feed. I've been wanting to try this place forever because the photos look so yum and I finally had a chance to stop by. The store was totally packed with a super long line, seems like a lot of people come here for a quick lunch. I just went with the classic combo that everyone seems to get: the Omakase nigiri ($16.99) and the seared salmon aburi ($12.50). I will say, the box looks really pretty and is definitely instagrammable, and the sushi tasted fresh but that's basically it. Honestly nothing was too standout or impressive about the flavors. It's also not even that cheap for the price and the portion you get, so I feel like the hype is mostly just because of the look. Would I go back? I have been to Ebiko many times and i can confidently say i REALLY enjoy their sushi! LOVE the take out style and how convenient it is for us corporate people in FiDi! I am able to walk in grab whatever sushi I want and leave to eat in the office. I will say this place has picked up in terms of busy-ness, so if you go late in the lunch hour there is less options. Straightforward grab and go sushi concept downtown near Salesforce area. Ordered ahead of time online. Was able to place the order day of, like 30 min before when it would be ready, which was convenient. Arrived around 11:30am and it was pretty busy with people grabbing lunch. Plenty of sushi, nigiri, etc also available in their fridges so you don't necessarily need to pre-order. Pre-ordering is more efficient though as they have a pre-order fridge for you to just grab your order. Our bag was fully loaded with our order, soy sauce, chopsticks, and to-go ramekins of wasabi and ginger. - bara chirashi - sushi rice topped with bluefin tuna, salmon, ikura, snow crab, tamago, tobiko and ikura. Back when I was at Cal, my college spot was Tokyo Sushi/Ebiko in Oakland, and I'd trek out every three weeks for takeout because it was just that good. Ebiko is a little grab n' go spot for sushi and nigiri . Selections are found in a small fridge to the right of the entrance with some other snacks available for purchase as well. The entire place fits about 7-8 people tops indoor and makes selecting/finding what you want a bit hard. So for those who have ordering anxiety like me lol definitely look at the menu ahead and look for the labels. They're pretty good at organizing things. Now as for the food itself, I found their nigiri to be just raw fish on top of rice. The rice tasted a bit dry and the fish was unflavored. Usually with nigiri the chef preps the fish ahead of time so you really wouldn't need any soy sauce and if any you would need very little. Here at Ebiko, soy sauce is definitely recommended and so don't forget it. The soy sauce packs are not included in the trays themselves so you have to find it on the left side of the cashier counter along with the ginger/wasabi, napkins and chopsticks. So despite your anxieties like me, slow down and make sure you have everything! Overall would recommend for a quick nigiri fix esp if you're busy and working in the city. But I wouldn't recommend if you're coming out of town for it. read more

Bara Chirasi: With a name like Bara, I was expecting something kinda gay. And I guess with all the bright colors, it was. It's a bit like deconstructed sushi. Just a mishmash of proteins over rice. It was fun to eat, but I think I prefer the nigiri and the rolls. Chilled Tofu: A nice protein boost that's not too expensive. The sauce and bonito flakes add a lot of flavor to this. Omakase Nigiri: This is the good stuff. Big pieces of fresh fish over rice. Kinda like Grubbies, but not as expensive. Not fishy at all, so you know it's fresh and good quality. Spicy Tuna Roll: Got a mild kick and lot of flavor. A great complement to the nigiri. Salmon Aburi: Like partially cooked sushi. The top of the salmon looks grill marked and underneath near the rice is raw and pink. I did like the smoky taste, but overall I think I prefer mine raw. Inari: An inexpensive way to pad your main sushi item with some rice carbs and nicely marinated tofu skin protein. Really tasty, with marinade seeping throughout.
