She doesn't just give a haircut, she teaches you how to shape your hair to fit your face and actually work with your natural texture. I've sent so many friends to her, and every single one has ended up switching from their previous hairstylist to Janelle permanently. She especially shines with curly hair and truly knows how to bring tired, damaged, or shapeless hair back to life. From face framing layers to full hair revivals, she somehow always nails it. You can tell she genuinely cares about her clients leaving confident and loving their hair. Finding a stylist this talented feels like discovering a hidden little treasure chest with scissors.

I went to Aveda Vicara in El Segundo last week with really high hopes because I've always had great…read moreexperiences with Aveda salons in the past. Unfortunately, this experience was incredibly disappointing. I showed the first stylist multiple reference photos of what I wanted, but she ended up adding a very dark root color to my already lightened hair, which was the complete opposite of the look I asked for. After expressing my concerns, the salon did have another stylist step in to help correct it, which I appreciated, although I waited nearly two hours in between. The second stylist made me feel much more comfortable and did improve the situation, but I still left unhappy with my hair overall. The correction consisted of using a color remover on the roots and applying toner to the rest of my hair, and I was charged $265 for it. At the end of the day, my hair looked better than what the first stylist did but still nowhere near what I originally asked for or envisioned. I'm leaving this review because I think communication and transparency are incredibly important, especially with color services. What upset me most was not just the outcome, but the way the situation was handled overall. I understand that corrections can take time and effort, but if I was going to be charged $265 for a corrective service after my hair was initially mishandled, that should have been clearly communicated to me beforehand. I truly wanted to love this salon and leave feeling taken care of, but unfortunately I left feeling disappointed, uncomfortable, and unhappy with the overall experience.

I got my first one somewhere else a couple of years ago and it does not compare to the experience I had here. Frank is very knowledgeable about how to care for your blowout and gave me numerous tips on how to make it last. I have super thick/wavy/frizzy hair and I'm glad I took a chance on going with Frank. His prices are reasonable and I appreciate that he genuinely cares about his customers. And he works super fast! Thank you so much Frank!

Friendly guy, clean and well kept salon, and otherwise great reviews. Leaving a 1-star because of…read morethe crazy amount of hair I've lost since the procedure. My experience was deeply disappointing and damaging. Owner's response to this review lacks accountability and honesty. I've had Brazilians in the past and typically the stylist flat irons the formaldehyde into your hair, then washes the chemical out, then re-straightens it. Instead this time, I was sent home without the process properly finished, just after the formaldehyde was flat ironed into my hair. I WAS SENT HOME WITH FORMALDEHYDE STILL ON MY HAIR. It seemed a little weird but I was relying on the stylist to be the expert. I reached out the next day to ask when I should wash it out and Stylist said "Whenever you like". So, unfortunately, I waited until my next hair appointment to wash it which was 2+ weeks later. Stylist expressed shock but seemed unwilling to admit that what he did was not only negligent but demonstrated unawareness. It's typical and standard for black women to get our hair done biweekly with no washes in between. I'm still a little surprised that he would be shocked that after formaldehyde was left on my hair for 2 plus weeks, there would be damage. Not to be funny but it doesn't seem like rocket science. Formaldehyde is dangerous! Via text he asked that I share that I went to another salon for a flat iron twice after seeing him. Again, demonstrating unawareness. He offered a deep conditioning treatment, but I was wary to return. LONG STORY SHORT IF YOU'RE AFRICAN-AMERICAN, I DO NOT RECOMMEND! STYLIST DOES NOT UNDERSTAND BLACK HAIR. PERIOD. Hopefully this can be a lesson learned. I spent $240 to learn the hard way.
