Years later our catalytic converter got stolen and they immediately popped into my head. Long story short, out of like 10 shops including the dealer, Ed Hanson was the only one even able to find a compatible cat. Everyone else had the same story. "Indefinitely back ordered" - wonderful. After getting the car to them, them getting the part in a couple days, they had us back on the road the day after they got the part. And they had the lowest price by like 700$. The crew at Ed Hanson's did a great job on the exhaust on my truck. They made sure to keep me involved with any decisions that needed to be made and even talked me out of spending more than I needed to by reusing my muffler and going with 3 bolt flanges over v bands. They made sure to show me the work that was done and they were thorough when checking for leaks at the end. I do feel like I paid a premium over other shops, but I don't think I would've been as involved with all of the specifics had I gone somewhere else. Overall, I'm really satisfied with work and service I received here, just wish they were a bit more competitive pricewise and closer to home. That said, if I don't have to see them again anytime soon, it means the work they did is built to last! I can believe this shop gets 4.9 stars. The first time I went there, I was getting symptoms of CO poisoning from the car. They assured me there was no exhaust leak, no way, no how. They were right--the PS hose had been dripping fluid on the exhaust pipe, producing CO from incomplete combustion. I found out later when the hose ruptured completely. The second time I went there, it was because I had ordered a catalytic converter online that was supposed to be an "exact fit"--only it wasn't. I didn't realize that when I stopped by everybody was on lunch hour. A guy came out anyway and reflared and sanded down the pipe so that it was really an exact fit--and then didn't charge me a dime! Too bad they don't do general automotive repair. read more

I called beforehand and was impressed they answered the phone right away. I made an appointment for that week and made the drive. Once there, I found Abraham to be respectful and liked the fact that he went over potential repairs with me, but without pressuring. They provided quality work at a fair price. This is a long-overdue review of the great job Ed Hanson's did designing and installing a dual exhaust system for my 1960 Chevy wagon. The guys were knowledgeable and talented - and the pricing was very good. This car has an "X" frame, making the exhaust system a lot more difficult to design and install as there's very little room to work with and the bends have to be precise. Kevin did a great job. I returned a day or two later as I thought I heard an exhaust leak. The guys checked it out and the leak was coming from slightly loose headers - NOT the new exhaust system. They tightened down the headers for me, even though it wasn't a problem they created. These are real "car guys" who like what they do and take pride in a job well-done. Got pulled over for loud exhaust and so I brought my car in on the dealership I recently bought it from to check up on it and they told me I do have an exhaust but refused to let me see it. I went to Ed Hanson's Muffler for a second opinion and they installed the muffler I brought in pretty fast! Also let me know about a mod that would make my stats ref fail which I did, pushed it to the dealership and they got to fix it for me! From the moment I reached out on Yelp for an estimate, Aly was spot on with being there to answer questions. Every other shop that replied all suggested I make an appointment for an inspection of what I already knew I needed. A catalytic converter. Aly was able to quote a price P & L (once I supplied the VIN and a photo of the factory emission label). She did suggest when possible to swing by and verify in person (with NO CHARGE?) So I did, I had Friday afternoon off so I did swing by and how pleased I was with their operation. In person, Aly was everything she was on the emails and more. I did not expect to have the work done that day but they had the parts - the estimate was within my budget and Joey was available to do the job immediately. My old MBRP exhaust rusted and literally fell off while I was driving, so I was in desperate need of a new exhaust. Came to Ed Hanson's and asked what they recommended that had a deep tone, but no rasp or drone. Abraham and his team set me up with a new Magnaflow exhaust and the end result exceeded my expectations. Nice deep tone thats pretty much only present when you get on the gas. Many months and two COVID quarantines ago, I wrote about my disappointment and frustration because I needed help with my car and the custom exhaust work Ed Hanson's had performed on my vehicle a few years ago. I was told that the work could not be done there, and that I had to go to another location for a possible repair, and that had me feeling cheated. What surprised me, is that Ryan, from Ed Hanson's, personally contacted me shortly thereafter, offering to rectify the situation. The fourth quarter of 2021 was not kind and I was in and out of the hospital; therefore the repair on my vehicle was not a personal priority and I never did respond to Ryan. Fast forward to the present, my health has improved but I am still unable to perform tasks such as working on my own vehicle. Desperate, I thought I would try to ask for help from Ryan at Ed's once again. I assumed that Ryan had moved past his offer to help me but I was mistaken; as soon as I reached out to him, he responded immediately and remembered the circumstances of my situation completely. Ryan invited me to come to either Ed Hansen's shop, or his satellite service center Asmar Auto Care, in Spring Valley, at my, not HIS, earliest convenience. On the day I arrived at Ryan's service center, I could tell that Ryan and his crew were extremely busy. No offense intended, but people that do not work in the service industry do not understand just how difficult it can be to assist customers and guests and then give exceptional service when it is busy. I know, because I have been in the service industry for decades; I have even managed a Valvoline Instant Oil Change, so when I noticed that his parking lot and adjacent streets were full of customer's cars, I knew very well that Ryan and his crew were going out of their way to take exceptional care of me and my car. At this point, I felt guilty and offered to come back at another time; but Ryan clearly wanted to repair this business relationship that had been established between us years ago, so despite his workload, he insisted on servicing my vehicle ahead of the dozens of cars that were already waiting. After a short wait, my car was serviced and I was back on the road again. The key things to remember here are that Ryan and Ed Hansen's do great work; it is quality that you will definitely see, feel and appreciate for years to come. But most importantly, when a business relationship goes sour with them, they clearly care about it and want to fix the situation, as they did with me. With the amount of business they experience, and the excellent reputation they have in the automotive community for all that they have done, they could have easily forgotten about my car and I, but they didn't. I took my 2023 bmw M340i in for an exhaust install. (I already had the part all I needed was labor) When I called they gave me a quote for $300 and brought it down to $250. I showed up and as soon as I posted my car online I had numerous people tell me that they were sloppy and careless. Once I got home I had my friends tell me that the tips were uneven. No problem.. it's a bolt on exhaust and an easy fix. I brought it in a day later and they wanted to charge me an additional $50 just to realign my tips. The man at the desk's only excuse for that was he gave it to me for cheap. Really? You guys installed it wrong now you want to charge me? They then called me afterwards and said the part I brought in was defective. Which was a lie however even if it was he should have told me that when I was there. I came in to this shop looking for them to install some MFER-1 active exhaust plates on my 2019 Dodge Charger R/T and I was very happy with my service, they said they had never done something like this before but they tackled the job anyway and got it done at a reasonable price. The best customer service in San Diego! I signed up online for an appointment for a free estimate for my vehicle's catalytic converters. Super easy, in seconds I had a date and time. Followed up with reminders (for those forgetful types, like me). I arrived early for y appointment and was able to watch their interactions with other customers as well. Everyone left with smiles! Anyway, the reason I made the appointment for checking my cats was this. Engine warning light had been on for almost 2 years. Each time (3 times in 2 years) I had it checked it gave back a code for P0420. Process of elimination checked everything except the converter. Sending me to search out an examination by experts. Paranoid of an expensive fix, and my car registration/smog due in 30 days, I selected Ed Hanson's because of their favorable Yelp reviews. I am so happy I did! As my luck would have it, they checked for engine codes, and found no errors!! We scratched our heads and agreed to get to the smog check ASAP! lol I was sent on my way grateful and happy. Best of all (for me) at no cost! Later that evening, I received a call from Hanson's. They were following up to see if I got my car smogged. I did, it passed. Talk about GREAT customer service. I did ask them what the cost would have been for the catalytic converters replacement and they gave me an estimate that would have been very reasonable. I was a 25 year customer that happily referred others, but in the past 3 years the ownership has changed and with the new management, I feel like nothing more than a money bag to them (2 out of two re-visits under new ownership). No more warm fuzzies just cold reception. I traded with them one last time. The quality was good as always but it was very pricey and I felt like I was giving money to someone that held me in great disdain. Since then, I found El Cajon Muffler and Air Conditioning (a solid 5 star vendor) and it was Happy Days Again. Ross the owner was a big Ed Hansen fan. I loathe giving poor reviews (l have tons of 5 star ones out there) but the new "Hanson" made me feel loathed as a customer.
