Would 100% recommend Sail Maui for the Molikini snorkeling trip. The crew were probably the best we've ever had and we've done several sailing/snorkeling trips over the years. They were of course knowledgeable but they were also very service oriented, continuously asking us and the other guests if we needed anything, offering to bring us drinks, talking our trash etc. they were also very friendly and we had some good conversations with them. The trip started with delicious breakfast croissants and cinnamon rolls, the snorkeling was great at molikini, my kids and husband enjoyed jumping off the side of the boat while there as well, the lunch afterwards was plentiful with so many delicious options, we all loved sitting on the net/trampoline on the way back, and getting a little sailing in. We just really had an awesome day at sea. We'd definitely book with them again on our next trip! read more

We came for snorkeling at Molikini. The weather was windy and there were white caps and the water was rough. This was out of the control of the crew. They still went out to the atoll. The conditions were not ok to snorkel. Too rough. The Capt then took us to a secondary area and we all got to get into the water for 45 minutes. The whole crew was very nice and attentive to us all. This was on top of doing their jobs. This was huge variable for us giving 5 stars even though we didn't get to snorkel at Molikini. The breakfast and lunch they provided was great and better than what we thought we would get. They also had sun screen if you needed it. The trip was great. read more

My wife and I wanted to snorkel at Molokini on our vacation. But we weren't looking to go with any BIG corporate crews. We found Sail Maui and gave them a try. WOW!!! We are so glad we chose SM. It's a local family owned company with midsize cat boats. Captain Brandon and the crew were hospitable, knowledgeable, and attentive. The trip itself was amazing. We detoured on our way to Molokini to catch sight of some whales. And we weren't disappointed, we witnessed whales mating and a baby whale completely breach. Then when we arrive at the crater, Cap. Brandon chose the perfect spot. Fantastic clarity and at least 20 different types of colorful fish. On our way back (after a delicious sandwich lunch) we dropped the sails and made our way to turtle town. All this for a price less than "The Big Guys." read more

My husband and I did both the sunset cruise and the Molokini snorkel adventure. We thoroughly enjoyed both! The crew on both days was super kind, knowledgeable, and attentive. The drinks on the sunset cruise were well made and the food was great! They served kebabs, caprese skewers, a veggie platter, egg rolls, and maybe some other things that I have forgotten since. As for the snorkel excursion, that was my favorite. We got lucky and had a group of only 10 people when normally it's about 50. Again, an amazing and helpful crew. It was my first time snorkeling and the captain helped me out a lot and gave me tips. More great food for breakfast and lunch! I can't recommend them enough. We joined Sail Maui once again on their new catamaran, Akialoa. Captain Brandon, crew Lily and Nianoa. The captain's smile in the attached photo says it all, a fun and great trip. Not sure who had more fun, the captain or his passengers. We were mugged by seven whales in a competition pod that couldn't leave our boat alone. They cancelled our sunset sail four hours before it was scheduled to begin because there weren't enough customers signed up. Luckily we were able to book a cruise with PacWhale Eco-Adventures despite the short cancellation notice by Sail Maui. Can't beat a sunset sail with open bar and snacks! We traveled at end of February so it was whale watching season. We saw a pod of dolphins and a whale on our sunset sail and a double rainbow Such amazing service the sailing team was super friendly always asking if we wanted another drink. With Covid they packed the sliders and cookie into a little container so it was super easy to grab and they even had banana bread! Even though the sunset was a little overcast it was a great experience. Highly recommend not too expensive considering all that you get 85.00 per person. The Alalani is their newer boat and I think with 50% capacity they were taking 40 passengers. Free parking in a public lot in front street in Laihana. So this is a great pick if you are staying at the west end but even from the east side it's not too far of a drive I think 30-40 min. If you're considering a snorkeling excursion I recommend Sail Maui without a doubt. These guys take care of you from start until you debark. We got there early to board and headed for Molikini in perfect weather. The crew served a great continental breakfast with yummy fresh fruit, yogurt, coffee, etc.... The catamaran is a pretty awesome boat and the crew was amazing. Because it was the tail end of whale watching season, we had the luxury of seeing these beautiful creatures several times throughout the sail. The Captain made sure he would put us in the best position to catch glimpses of these awesome creatures. The snorkeling itself was awesome and an amazing experience. I want to give a shout out to Spencer for always making sure we had drinks in hand on the ride back. The lunch was great too. These guys rock! Tip them well when you go, they deserve it!! read more

Sorry to write a bad review. Early April '21, we had a Molokini trip booked for almost 10. We traveled via hired taxi & rental cars from about 40 minutes away after getting up super early to make the 7am call. As we stood in front of this small boat* called Paragon wondering 'are we all going to fit?', the crew seemed about half awake, none acknowledged us. For about 20 minutes, the captain & two crew members didn't make eye contact, bustling around. *Compared to the bigger boats going by, Paragon did look pretty dinky to us, not trying to be mean on purpose here. Finally, the captain walked over to explain the engine was having some kind of trouble, that he didn't feel safe to make the trip. Another crew member also walked over to apologize. We were a big group and were disappointed (and one person actually very disappointed) but did appreciate the safety measures, we'd rather not be stranded in the ocean. We thought the captain did do the right thing and they did all seem like very nice people, hence I feel badly for this. We wished the issue had been discovered sooner & would have appreciated a cancellation the night before or very early in the morning. We had another trip booked but cancelled it thinking this was a go. I received a full refund fr the booking company Boss Frog, (***but not the $130 taxi ride. 'Don will definitely look into the taxi reimbursement and get back to you' were the words used as the lady on the phone took my venmo info.) (***update) just after writing the review, received a reimbursement from Don, I think he had forgotten until he saw the review and I do appreciate it for what it's worth. Nobody wanted the trip to be cancelled. I do see many good reviews here but for us, this was a bust, it should have been cancelled in advance. The crew members (Ryan, Keely, & Justin?) were so welcoming, friendly and very accommodating. They checked in frequently to make sure we were always doing ok and were especially great with the kids! The water at Molokini was crystal clear!!! The breakfast pastries were so delicious and moist!!! There were probably about 30 people with plenty of room on the boat! One of the best times we had on our trip. Chill crew, good vibes. Crew was friendly and attentive to the guest. Other charters have a huge amount of guests and become responsible for many people once in the water. Our trip had about 20 people and I felt more comfortable snorkeling g with a handful of people. I can't believe I get to review Paragon first. Paragon Sailing Charters does an excellent job on their charter to Molokini. It's like getting THREE adventures for the price of ONE when I went with them. Here's what we got (results may vary from day to day though): 1. Sailing most of the way to and from Molokini. It's so relaxing to be on the boat and if you want a more thrilling ride (and possibly getting wet) then lay down on the trampolines up front, but get there first because there's a weight limit to each one (two total). One really fun thing was sailing back to Maui on a windy day and passing one of the Trilogy boats (IV if I remember correctly) on the upwind side, so we took their wind as we passed them. As we passed, we smiled, waved then laughed. Laughed a lot actually. They had their sails up, but weren't going anywhere. We literally passed them like they were standing still because the Trilogy crew doesn't know how to sail very well. It's nice to use WIND power on the way home! One of the crew estimated we were traveling at 15 to 18 knots, which seems very fast on the water with a full boat. The Paragon crew knows how to sail this catamaran!!! 2. Snorkeling at Molokini. You get to explore the crater and they let you free (not like some other charter boats) where they keep you in a confined area. There's lots of fish to see, but the numbers have been getting smaller, which might be due to many factors. The crater is beautiful and worth a trip. 3. On the way back and just before we hit the harbor, we got to see sea turtles and even a dolphin and her calf. It was very cool. I wasn't quick enough to take a picture of them though. The crew said they don't normally see dolphins, so we were lucky. Overall, it was one of the best adventures during my stay in Maui. You must definitely give them a try. They are a smaller boat, so capacity might fill up quickly. Crew was very knowledgeable and friendly. They served breakfast and lunch during our charter. There's also all the soft drinks and beer you want to drink. I'd also recommend bringing Dramamine just in case because the boat can rock when it's sailing so fast. I believe some people felt a bit woosy on our trip, but no one got sick. Take Paragon, they are the bomb!!! Cheers! read more

We were quite disappointed with the sail. It was an incredibly windy day, and we felt that the trip should have been canceled. They did not tell us, until we asked, and were already out in the churning water, where the life preservers were. This has never occurred in any boat I've ever been on, whether huge or small. They kept telling us to hold on, as it was so wildly windy, but there was nothing for us to hold on to. They should have installed bars in the seating area, so you could realistically grab on to something. The captain and the crew were nice people, but that part seemed very unprofessional to me. We did see whales, but it was way too choppy to really enjoy them, as I did in Alaska. My 10-year old granddaughter, who kayaked another 2 days in the ocean, and did a 30-foot scuba dive for her first time said she doesn't want to go out on another boat again, after this experience. She is very brave, but didn't enjoy the conditions. Sorry- but it was an exhausting and disappointing trip for all 8 of us in our family group. read more

The ocean had been rough for a few days so I think people may have been hesitant to book - we were spoiled with only about 13 people on this trip - but when Saturday rolled around the sea was perfect for sailing and lovely for snorkeling Coral Gardens. Crew Bryan and Bennett could not have been more friendly and accommodating, putting at ease the new snorkelers in our group. The snorkel equipment was great quality - not a leak among us. Swam with several turtles and tons of fish. My favorite part was the sailing, though; in my experience many charters will use the word "sail" and yes, there is canvas on board, but they don't actually cut their engines. Paragon II is made for sailing, and these guys don't disappoint. They sailed as much as the wind allowed. Healthy food choices and everything we needed for a perfect 3-hour afternoon. We took their 4pm whale-watching cruise and we're very impressed! Tim and the crew on the Paragon I catamaran were great and the they made sure to point out the nearby whales, and we saw quite a few-including one who put on tail slapping show for about 3 minutes. They had snacks for us that included fruits, veggies, cheese and crackers plus a variety of beverages, including beer, seltzer, soda, etc. We motored out of the Maalaea Marina then went to sail power while made for a quieter and more enjoyable experience. The cruise was about two hours and well worth it. One hint: they have you remove your shoes before you get on the boat and remain off for the cruise. Be ready for this. Also, the non-slip dock surface is extremely rough on sensitive feet. The walk on the dock is about 40 feet. All in all, it was a fabulous trip. read more
