This is a to go review! I was at the Planet Fitness in the same center and knew I'd be starved after, so I figured I'd would take advantage of their 3 roll lunch special. I was expecting like 4 pieces for each roll seeing as though it was under $13 and included Miso. I ordered online and its supposed to update as its made and then ready. I only got the confirmed order confirmation, so I headed over at about 20 minutes after I placed it. I went in, paid and when I picked up the bag I thought "Wow, thats heavy!" Got home, opened up my stapled shut brown bag and my eyes grew big at the sight! It was about 6 ounces of Miso. Absolutely perfect amount of seaweed and the tofo cute up all nice and teeny tiny.. The rolls, 6 pieces of each! Holy moly i felt like I won the lottery! I paid less than $13 for a big Miso and 18 pieces of sushi?! It was glorious. That was enough for my lunch AND dinner. I had the Shrimp tempura roll, Salmon and Avocado roll, as well as the tuna and Avocado roll. Included was pickled ginger, Wasabi and the perfect amount of Soy Sauce. Back again at Edamame, with another voucher. But they're advertising an anniversary special - their 3rd - BOGO Hibachi Dinner Monday - Thursday. Ooooo... tempting, but my voucher expires too soon to postpone its redemption... For our two appetites, we decided to split an appetizer and dessert, and ordered an entree apiece: . Edamame Special Salad $8.95 (Seaweed salad, squid, shrimp, tobiko, avocado and crunch with miso sauce) . Teriyaki Chilean Seabass $19.95 . Nabeyaki Udon $14.95 (Thick noodle served in a broth with chicken, shitake, mushroom, fish cake, shrimp tempura assorted veg, and topped with egg) . Fried Cheese Cake $4.95 The seaweed salad was fine, with a minimal scattering of seafood add ins. The squid was raw, the shrimp cooked, the tobiko bright red, and avocado diced a good size. As with all seaweed salads, it was a good sized scoop, but nothing particularly filling. The noodle dish surprised us by coming in the form of a large bowl of noodle soup with a plate filled with a hill of tempera stacked against each other - 2 shrimp, with a variety of at least 6 pieces of vegetables including onion, broccoli, taro, and sweet potato. Whoa. And it was good. All that for $14.95! The fish were two medallions resting on a bed of onions with a small side of vegetables, and served with a bowl of rice, your basic Japanese restaurant style iceberg lettuce based salad, and a bowl of warming miso soup. The chilean seabass had that nice fatty mouthfeel, and the teriyaki sauce was quite tasty. This was my dc's favorite entree of our evening's two. Service was pleasant but relaxed. My water lasted through the meal, and I did not receive a refill. I guess you have to be proactive here if you want to finish with something sweet, as they brought out our bill when a server would normally ask if we were all set with dinner and whether we would be interested in dessert. A nearby diner somehow ordered green tea mochi for dessert (2 on a plate), even though I didn't see it on their short dessert menu. I wasn't feeling it myself that night, so we went with the most interesting one on the list - the Fried Cheese Cake. Still cold firm center, warmed softened edges. Yum! Their hibachi guests were all spread out through the evening, so we each ended up having our own private chefly entertainment. Ours may have been a bit less experienced, though he was quite enthusiastic. I watched two other chefs as I enjoyed my meal and noticed that their fried rice had carrots and peas, their chef drew a smiley face with the oil on the grill and placed the vegetables on the hot grilling surface first, before the protein. Also, our chef forgot our shrimp appetizer course, so they cooked them up for us in the kitchen after I realized that they were missing. It is $1,50 for the fried rice upgrade, but then they'll twirl an egg for you. It is tasty too, even though ours lacked the colorful dots of added vegetables. We shared two dinners: Kobe King (steak, lobster) $30.95 and Banzai Special (salmon, scallop, lobster) $30.95, and they split it for us. The miso soup and salad preceded the entertainment. The show included the now ubiquitous onion volcano, and the opportunity to try to catch pieces of vegetables in your mouth as the chef flings them randomly at you. The miso soup - good. The salad - crisp and fresh, mainly iceberg lettuce and that orange colored dressing with a half slice of tomato tossed on top. Everything cooked had some butter added to it along with squirts from the sauce bottles. The beef though ordered medium rare came nearly fully cooked, and a bit tough. The salmon had a nice sear on the outside, but was a bit overcooked as well. The lobster was tender. The scallop were tender and the count six to the order. The shrimp arrived late were juicy and well sauced. I wonder if they would have been as good prepped before our eyes. The bill was brought with Andes chocolates though we were wanting dessert. Yes the fried cheesecake $4.95, again, as always. A tip for the hibachi diner newbie - hibachi chefs are traditionally tipped at the end of their performance. This place has really good food!!! The japanese pancakes are basically scallion pancakes and theyre served with a slightly sweet soy sauce. You get like 6-8 triangle pieces. The crab "ransoons" (typo??) are pretty solid, nothing special. The veggie spring rolls are kind of bland to be quite honest--all I could taste was oil :/ Onto the hibachi...super tasty and great quality and quantity for price. I've gotten the chicken hibachi and it comes with a small bowl of miso soup, and a simple salad with a yummy ginger dressing. It also comes with rice and fried rice (+$2). Trust me--get the fried rice!!! It was my favorite part of this. Super buttery and flavorful of course. All the hibachi dishes also come with a 3-4 piece shrimp appetizer. And of course sauteed veggies (zucchinis mostly, broccoli, some mushrooms). Drinks are extremely affordable! Got a bottle of lucky buddha for only $4 and a lot of other bottles for between $3-$4! And of course can't forget the experience. All I can say is I'm really not that easily amused but wow that man was funny!!!! He had our whole party laughing out loud--he has a true talent. Just opened this past Thursday and was just what the area needed. They do Hibachi as well as serve Fine Asian Cuisine ( Sushi!)!!! My brother in law and his friends went on Friday and it was packed! They had the Hibachi and loved it. From the front I noticed about 6 stove top tables with chairs all around with non-stovetop tables scattered throughout the restaurant. It can definitely hold a big party. The bar holds about 8 seats and there are two LCD TV so I can imagine coming here, watching the game and drinking a beer. We went on a Friday night and was sat immediately. They have hibachi but we opted for sushi only. We ordered 4 special rolls (volcano, pink lady, and 2 others) and edamame (how could we NOT)! The edamame was a bit too salted, but the sushi was very fresh and very filling. Our server was very nice. The only one that I didn't love was the sexy girl roll, but that's really just just me and my personal taste. I found out about Edamame from Groupon. I had pretty low expectations given its location. It's in a strip mall, with stores and businesses that aren't very appealing to me (just my opinion). Stopped by for dinner with family. The restaurant was recommended by another family member, and I am now doubting any other restaurant recommendations by that said family member. We were seated right away. The booth was right up against the windows, which as first seemed nice, but 5 minutes after taking our coats off we put them back on because it was freezing. The restaurant itself was actually a bit on the dirty side. The table had not been wiped down very well, and there were crumbs on the floor. The waiter was meh--he did the bare minimum. The plates he brought out first were dirty. We asked for new plates, and the second set was still sticky underneath. We did not ask for a third because my guess was that any dish he brought out would be in the same state. We opted to not use the plates. The water was brought out in plastic Pepsi cups. For a restaurant that has a very well thought-out decor, being served water in those cheap plastic cups was just plain weird. The waiter had also placed staws in the cups, but he hadn't cut the paper off high enough on the straws, so the remaining paper was soaked and stuck on the straw itself. For our meal, we ordered the Japanese Pancakes, Shrimp Shumai, Spider Roll, Shrimp Tempura Roll, and the third was a roll with Salmon (I forgot the name). The Pancakes were pretty tasty & crispy. The Shumai was good, nothing special. The rolls were mediocre at best. The Spider roll was very oily, smelled very fishy, and fell apart the second you attempted to pick it up. The Shrimp Tempura roll was alright, as was the salmon one. No point in returning to this place. Food was forgettable and the service was very blah. read more

After being seated, we didn't get to open our menu yet and was asked what we wanted for drinks. We asked for glasses of water to buy us some time to peruse the menu. She came back with the waters and asked if we were ready. Nope. Not even a couple minutes after, there she was again. The secret to quality service is being able to read the table. Knowing how to be attentive without making the customer feel rushed. And sadly, that's what happened both times, we felt rushed and it ruined our experiences here. Food: Volcano Roll- Sloppy. And usually these rolls are known for a combination of ingredients topped one after another another but this particular roll I couldn't really distinguished what was in the roll nor could I tell by tasting it. Hibachi Shrimp- Was it supposed to taste sour? I saw the chef squeezing a lemon when he was cooking it but it ended up being a lip puckering fest. Honestly, I'm the worst treasure hunter you'd ever meet. I'm about as lucky as a flopping fish at the seafood market, so you'd understand how ecstatic I felt when I came across this hidden gem just MINUTES away from my home in the middle of nowhere Waltham. Edamame is safely tucked away in this tiny plaza (can you even call it that?) which is mainly dominated by a gigantic Stop and Shop supermarket. There's also a very small Papa Ginos and a Jenny Craig, and at the other end of the plaza in it's tiny corner, there's Edamane, a Japanese Hibachi and Sushi joint, emblazoned with it's brightly yellow storefront. I've literally passed by this plaza hundreds of times, but have only noticed the Stop and Shop. Thank you, blessedly geniuses Jeremy Stoppelman and Russel Simmons, for creating Yelp, otherwise this would have continue to fly far under my radar. Upon entrance after parking in it's shared but extremely ample parking lot, the slightly unappealing area transforms into a contemporary japanese venue. To the left, you'll see the nicely spaced hibachi area. To the right, a generously sized sushi bar with two chefs behind, working their slicing magic. Directly in front, a beautiful bar filled with liquor. But lastly, near the host desk, is a small army of RAMUNE SODA (Japanese soda pop). That, my friends, is as legit as you can get. Throw some sumo wrestlers in the middle of the restaurant, and you could have possibly entered a fabric in time and space and landed right in Japan. As for food, since we were moderately impressed with the decor, decided to go all in with the $50 Edamane Love Platter. That, my friends, consists of a whopping 18 pieces of sashimi, 12 pieces of nigri, and two rolls (Dragon and Rainbow). As a bonus, you'll get two bowls of salad with Japanese dressing and two bowls of miso soup. Note the latter bowls were nothing noteworthy, but were easily eclipsed by the quality and quantity of the platter. The pieces of sashimi were enormous (maybe even a little TOO big), and the quality extremely solid. The sushi turned out to be better than the sashimi (a very rare occasion for me as I always go with the straight sashimi). I think this was due to two reasons - the rice was tasty with a splash of vinegar and at the right temperature, and the fish was perfectly cut (not too thick, but large, curving all the way around the rice). The sashimi, while large and also fresh, had a slight chill to it (due to the thickness) that took away from the otherwise amazing experience. This caused, for example the salmon sashimi, to loose some of it's creamier texture and taste, hence the 4 hotly debated stars despite this raving review. In addition, although there was nothing wrong with the service, it didn't stand out either - very typical all-business-no-nonsense-gimme-your-cash-for-food asian restaurant service is what you'll get here. In all cases, everything tasted amazing and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and quantity of what we received. This is definitely the best sushi place within 10-15 minutes from me (although my number one spot, Daikanyama in Lexington, would be worth the extra 5 minute drive). I visited Edamame on a quiet Thursday night. They're located in a strip-mallish area on the Newton-Watertown border. As a Newton Native, I welcome the addition of sushi to any New England town. I started with a cup of green tea, and It had that spinachy flavor you expect from low quality matcha. As for sushi, I tasted the tuna maki, the outstanding maki, and the inari sushi. All were fantastic. The sushi was a bit expensive, with a vegetable roll coming in around $4-5, a plain fish roll coming in around $5-6, nigiri at $3-5 for two pieces, and special rolls ranging from $9-$15. Definitely not a bargain by any means. My server was prompt, and the staff were friendly and non-invasive. Overall, my experience here was very positive, and I will probably return. read more

Terrible, terrible service. Horrible for allergies even though they claim they can accommodate. I called ahead of time to ensure that there were gluten free options to be assured they can accommodate it for a hibachi birthday dinner. After arriving, I alerted the waitress of my allergy and she told me to also tell the chef. After telling the chef about my allergy and requesting no sauce be put on my chicken or steak, he told me "okay" and later proceeded to douse it in the same sauce as everyone else's. After asking about my meal, stating it definitely had gluten because of the added teriyaki and soy sauce from the normal cart. I was met with a scoff and told they'll make it in the back. After waiting for the waitress to come back out so I could cancel the kitchen order since I'm hesitant eating since "gluten" isn't clearly understood I was met with a harsh and loud "NO, the kitchen has already started making it" less than 3 minutes later another plate was brought out with what looks like the same exact meal. My friend taste tested and confirmed it tasted exactly like the meal they had and nothing like the gluten free soy sauce that was provided.
