This place has really changed from years ago. The food, service and atmosphere isn't the same. This is our second time trying it after a mediocre first time experience. For the second time the young waitress forgot some of the items we ordered, the bartender was drinking behind the bar which was a little tacky. Also having the young waitress back behind the bar wasn't a good look either. The new slot machines, though I know most bars have them, is a big eye sore right when you walk in. The burgers are a 2/10. My patty literally fell apart and the quality was below average. There is a reason this place isn't packed on a Friday night... : (. . Stopped in on Sunday around 2ish - it was our first visit and there was 1 other couple that walked in the same time we did but otherwise it was empty. Within 30 minutes though it filled up. The place is pretty small but super quaint. I actually love the atmosphere. Very clean. Our servers were very nice and attentive with great suggestions but we definitely felt rushed. We tried their fried pickles - they were delicious - I'd say close to the best we've had. Tried their pickle soup - was very good / sort of a vegetable with pickle flavor but not too strong - I'd try again. Then we tried the cheesesteak sandwich. That was just OK. Worst meal I've ever had. Cheese curds were so greasy they were almost inedible. The sauce that came with them tasted like cigarette ashes. Very poor service and food was average at best. 1. Fried chicken sandwich (Outer crust of chicken sandwich was too dark) 2. Online menu prices do not match up with in store menu prices. 3. Dinner special included a beer that never arrived. (The beer was not taken off the bill) 4. I asked if the amount of the beer had been taken off the final bill. Bartender replied "it's like if you ordered a burger and fries". This is a small bar....a very small bar. Great choices for beers and some nice tasting events. We go there often for lunch or drinks. They have live entertainment on the weekend, some good talent, but it takes up desperately needed space. Their appetizers are tasty. The sandwiches and salads are good. Went in around 3 pm on a Saturday afternoon. Nice remodeled building with simple but warm decor. Ordered cheese curds, out came a huge basketful which were delish! I ordered the burger which was char grilled on a pretzel bun, husband had steak queso's which came w/ chips and homemade salsa. Everything tasted great! Stopped here per a friends recommendation and loved it!! Had the jalapeño peppers, excellent with just enough heat. Had the brisket grilled cheese which was tasty, was expecting something different but this was good! Also had a chicken breast sandwich which was grilled perfectly. The side of mac n cheese was tasty also and not overloaded with salt. Speedy service, quaint with baseball memorabilia. We love smaller bars. Their pizza looked really good too! Very impressed with this place! Super clean, friendly staff, very nice atmosphere. Classic drinks and great specials here. Great place to hang out and have a few drinks. From the floor to the walls they certainly made sure everything was top of the line. It has a downtown Chicago bar feel...amazing! There are 3 large flat screen tv's to watch any sports game. Being a vintage baseball historian, I had to give this place a whirl. The food and service here are both awesome. I had the chicken club sandwich with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was served panini style and delicious. EG's is a pretty small place...but there's reasoning behind that. The size of their space reflects Eddie's um, stature. Think of EG's number..1/8th. The walls inside are adorned with the interesting history of Eddie, including his infamous 1951 at-bat with the St. Louis Browns. Many know that tale but the more interesting displays show Eddie's involvement with a local baseball team and the fact that he was a Grand Marshall for Elburn Days in 1951 (the same year as his infamous at-bat). One of the coolest things they have on their menu here is a monsterous burger that must be eaten in an hour for a free t-shirt. Our waitress sais she's only seen one guy try..who failed. Don't go!!!! The old owners were awesome but the new owner has no idea what he is doing. They have the worst bartenders noe that are so woke I felt like was in Madison. This is no longer a bar that had Elburn traditional values and the food/service is aweful. We received a nice letter and coupon offering $10 on a meal with a menu with their specials. Monday was supposed to be Brat and a beer. When we got there they informed us they didn't offer it anymore! OK so we ordered a steak sandwich $12 and a burger for about the same. Food was good but when I got the bill the burger and steak sandwich was about 25% more than the listed price! At the bottom of the menu they noted prices will change with market costs. Never have I ever seen this except maybe if your buying lobster. Because of this dishonest behavior we will not be back again. When you think of Elburn you don't really think of a place like Eddie Gaedel's being smack dab in the middle of it. You walk in and immediately have a nice cozy feeling about the place. It is pretty small but very well designed. Perfect small town bar, but also more upscale than most. My dad and a couple friends stopped by for a beer tasting with Goose Island when they were hosting an event that night and it was packed. Real good time and got a try a bunch of tasty beer with a cheese pairing. Stop by if you're rolling through Elburn for lunch or if you want to grab a couple beers with friends. You might need to wait a bit to find a spot to sit, it gets packed and is super small but totally worth it. read more

I came here because of yelp reviews. This one was very disappointing. Not many places have I rated 1 star. I'll start with the good move on to the bad. Pros -Environment : clean, modern, plenty of seating, nice opening to the street. Location right in downtown. Server was nice. Place was not too loud. Food came out at a timely manner. Great sweet potato fries!!! Cons Water and soda taste like chemicals. The server explained it was their hard water taste. We switched to beer and a root beer. Rootbeer taste like black liquorish. Cheese curds were overpriced and were not cheesy as you would expect. Inside was warm firm cheese. The horseradish sauce wasn't too bad. Burger was pretty bad! You could tell the ingredients were good just poorly put together. The cheddar wasn't melted. Tasted the char at every bite. Mac and cheese side wasn't bad but it wasn't good. No real flavor. Presentation was nice. Pasta well cooked. $35 dollars plus tip. I can't find a reason to ever return. If they improve their food and address their funky water they would really impress. read more

We stopped on Saturday night for some beers and burgers. The bar area was busy, but not too crowded, and we sat at the corner of the bar. There was a live solo act playing some good tunes, and lots of sports on the TV's. The drafts were somewhat limited and didn't seem to have anything hoppy or a good IPA. The bartender suggested a few canned options and I went with his advice and they were quite good. She also had canned beer options due to their odd draft list. We each had a burger and fries. She went with a blackbean burger with sweet potato fries. The fries were great and well cooked but burger was kinda mushy. Blackbean burgers need to be crisped really well otherwise they mush outta the bun.... I had a western bbq burger w/ normal fries. Fries were standard, good enough. The burger was also solid. Properly cooked and tasty, but nothing too fancy or awe inspiring. Overall, I'd go back. We'd likely find better burgers and beers in Geneva, but it's a Eddie's is a good options for nights we don't wanna deal w/ those crowds. read more

We read that they were going to reopen for inside dining but limit occupancy to 50 percent, and that the Village was not going to interfere. We wanted to support a small business that had the stones to fight to stay in business. We weren't disappointed at all. The place was spotlessly clean and clear barriers had been placed to prevent the Covid 19 spread. That being said the staff was friendly and prompt. We had ribeye sandwiches which were awesome. They have a good and varied food and drink menu that should work for most everyone. We were very happy just to be able to go in to a restaurant/bar again and enjoy food drinks and conversation. I feel like I owe Eddie Gaedel's my loyalty after having such a great experience. read more

Really enjoyed our meal. I started with a Bloody Mary. Selected cheese curds and shrimp as my add ons. Everything was fresh and the drink was refreshing. My husband had a beer. Must say, their beer menu is quite nice with something for everyone. We ordered the cheese curd appetizer and that was shated between all of us eating. I had the black bean burger. This was mafe fresh on site and very good. I enjoyed the sauce on the burger. The coleslaw on the side was good - not too saucy. My husband had the western burger and beans. He enjoyed his burger and commented on tbe taste being quite good. Our daughter had the grilled cheese panini and mac and cheese. She loved it. It's not large and it is clean. We all left commenting how friendly and comfortable it was. We want to come back again and bring others. read more

An afternoon Westbound train took me to Eddie's here in Elburn, IL. HBO was shooting a series on main street (Lovecraft Country) when I arrived. When stepping off the Metra/UP/ Westbound last stop- There was no way to know where to go. My google showed straight north but that was through a field?? WHAT??? I called Eddies and Jenny - bartender - informed me that yes, the field to the North side of the track was the only way! WHAT? Well I trekked through the field and found an old Midwest town engulfed in the excitement of the filming. AND...Entered the Eddie Gaedel by way of the alley. The place was visually a let down. I expected pics of Eddie and other various memorabilia throughout - Nope! The beer selection however, is superb - Go for the AVERY beer!!. The Food is fresh - HOT and delicious and quite varied for such a scant/small place. Mushrooms and dip best ever. People were great small-town rural America. A patron "Angela" had heard of my farm field travel dilemma on how I got here and happily drew a map for me to follow an actual path back to the Metra station! (Thanks). I will come back again in hopes to try more of the food and the Avery-White Rascal ! I certainly enjoyed this rural American Bar! read more

Love this place. Eddie Gaedel's is a small town pub with great food and local beer. Their burgers are the best, my personal favorite is the popper burger. They also smoke brisket on Thursday, which is also a must. Service is always good and attentive. It's our go to place with it without kids. read more
