This was almost a five star! I got a filet that was melt in your mouth delicious! I even told my husband that it was probably the best filet I have ever had. The place where they lost the star was because the sides were lacking. I got the garlic mashed potatoes and I didn't find them very garlicky and not as creamy as I like my mashed potatoes. The service was incredible though! I was there for a work meeting, so we were off in a private room, but it was like the servers anticipated your next need before you were even aware of the need. This review may be unusual. I enjoyed the lounge menu in Ft. Wayne on a Sunday eve after traveling all day. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. I started with Ahi and then enjoyed 1/2 of the pappadew blue cheese burger (the other half for lunch the next day:-) I left with their mammoth carrot cake that was breakfast for most of the week. I then enjoyed Eddies in Scottsdale, AZ with my wife the following Sat eve. We went early and sat in the lounge. I had beef carpaccio and she had the lounge steak Diane. Our recent dining experience left us with mixed feelings. The first thing noticed was the wine list is printed with such little contrast between the ink and the paper it was difficult to read in the restaurant's subdued lighting. Our servers were all well-trained and did an exceptional job, but the dining room was not very crowded so they had the luxury of time. The sourdough bread was warm and fresh and delicious, but it's service as quartered into four giant chunks and appropriately chewy crust made it impossible to eat without compressing the light texture of the bread's interior. Slicing into slices or allowing it to be sliced at table would have made more sense. My meal began with a house salad, which was unremarkable. The shredded lettuce mixed with a little shredded purple cabbage could have been purchased at any grocery. The shredding also made the salad less than appealing to the eye. Toppings of a few cherry tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, purple onion and a few croutons was presented in a style reminiscent of any lower quality chain restaurant. The blue cheese dressing lacked the distinctive tang and recognizable chunks of exceptional blue cheese dressing and could have been from a bottle of the cheapest brand. The salad really made me question the prices I would be expected to pay for what I anticipated as fine dining. My wife's French onion soup was good, but equally unremarkable. My wife's entree of the medium filet was cooked perfectly and high quality but presentation was lacking. It was served alone on a very large dinner plate with no apparent garnish. It just looked small and lonely. My entree of the mixed grill was cooked well and tasted fine, but again, it was not really exceptional as you would expect at Eddie Merlot's. Our sides of tempura green beans and tempura asparagus were delicious and the only dishes that seemed worthy of their menu price. We passed on dessert fearing it would be as unremarkable as the rest of the meal had been. Suffice to say, it just did not live up to the expectations nor to our experiences in the past. After seeing Eddie Merlot's Facebook post regarding plant based options for their vegan patrons we were excited to stop in and give them a try. The ambiance and hospitality were impeccable as always. The vegan dish was roasted veggies served over rice. It doesn't look like a lot in the photo but it was a nice sized portion and very filling. Our group of 6 were all very pleased with our meals. We each got a different meat option and ordered a lot of sides for the table to share. The appetizers were spinach and artichoke dip and prime rib pot stickers. Both were great, maybe portions could have been larger. I ordered the trio of medallions and the 3rd was even delicious warmed up the next day. Our sides included mushrooms, lobster mac and cheese, Parmesan fries, asparagus, and cheesy potatoes. The food and service here were excellent but it should be for the money you spend. We went on a Tuesday so it wasn't too busy. They sat us at a round table but the table was right next to the main walkway to get to the bar area. I don't think this table should have even been here. It just made me uncomfortable because there were different servers walking close by constantly. The chairs need replaced, they were comfortable at first because you just sank down into them,but after awhile I felt like I needed a booster seat. Apparently the staff are aware of this, they gave us stiff hard covered boards to go on top of the chair cushions. The extra boards helped. Ask for them if you feel like you are too low in the seat or if your back starts hurting (like mine did). For an appetizer we ordered crab cakes of course, they were large. They were good but nothing phenomenal. I ordered lobster bisque and the New Orleans mixed grill. The lobster bisque had large chunks of lobster in it , which was awesome. The salad that came with the meal was fresh. My main dish was smaller than what I expected it to be, maybe it wasn't such a great after all. I would have paid extra to have a larger portion. The mixed grill had two shrimp, a small filet, and sausage. I ordered it because I wanted to try a variety of items from the menu and I had a hard time deciding what to get. My boyfriend ordered the sea bass, I tried some of it and it was really tasty . We had dessert, bananas foster. It was a table side show, they bring out the ingredients and make it at the table. There are no proper vegetarian options. I mean, this is entirely true, and I was excited at the prospect of having a steak with a side of asparagus-shaped sausages and cream-of-minced meat. First off, I love the decor and the heavy chairs, white tablecloths, thick carpet, faint yet sufficient lighting - everything fits the steakhouse bill. I had a bacon-wrapped shrimp appetizer that the server randomly suggested and I later found out cost close to 30 bucks after tax. Point is, it is popular, they say, perhaps because the servers try to move lots of it? Not worth the price, but good nevertheless. Who cares about that. They have steaks. Fillets, marble scores off the charts, bison. Everything. I had a hard time deciding but opted for the bison filet mignon with bearnaise, mushrooms and brussel sprouts. Quite frankly, you can forego all add-ons and should rather focus on the steak itself. The server forgot our sides and they came out 20 minutes after my meal was delivered. The manager comped them, which was nice, but the potatoes were raw. I came in on Valentine's Day with reservations. I absolutely loved the environment, very busy but elegant. Saw many people dressed up in business casual while staff looked very professional. I enjoyed our appetizer, very juicy and rich. We got the Caesar Salad and I believe a Crab soup which where both delicious! The bread given to us was amazing especially dipped in the soup. It's an expensive place but I am glad I went!! My boyfriend and myself spent 198 bucks plus a 22% tip. The only downside is it is a little pricey but other then the price it's amazing. The first time visiting I would next time to think about the type of alcohol drink I want instead of them recommending because I didn't necessarily like the waitress recommendation. I've been to Merlot's a few times over the years but I wouldn't call myself a regular. Some co-workers suggested it today for lunch, so I thought I'd give it another go. While I can't say it was horrible, it was not what one would expect; frankly, there are better restaurants in this class. Service was gracious, though slow, and did not pay attention to detail. While our orders were correct on the larger items, the little details got lost -- i.e., one of the sandwiches was served without a condiment that was stated on the menu, my cup of soup ended up being a bowl... The food, while good, is not at the caliber of the price -- there are just better options in town. Further, watching the front desk staff clear a booth, while patrons on canes stand to wait in the middle of the dining room, was, frankly, embarrassing. read more

If there is a staffing issue, then fewer tables need to be seated so that staff can pay proper attention. Visited here for a date night. Saw they had Kobe steak on the menu. They were offering 20oz Kobe steak for $80 compared to the place in Roanoke that sells 6oz for $50. Had to try the Kobe beef and it was amazing. It tasted like it was infused with butter even though I know it wasn't. I didn't add any of their steak compliments to the steak. I figured for $80 it better taste amazing without sauces, which it did. Also had the spicy tempura shrimp appraiser which came out in this fun decorative Asian display. It was just as tasty as it was fun. The wife had a salmon BBQ dish, which was also good. We shared two sides, as it is all al a cart, We had the asparagus and the jalapeno potatoes. The sides are big enough for two to share. The asparagus wasn't anything special, but the potatoes were yummy. I really had no complaints, the food and service were all very good, but it was very expensive even by San Francisco (my home town) standards. The wine list especially was at the very top end of what you should spend at a restaurant. Lots of good choices, but very pricey. They have an excellent menu and atmosphere if you are looking for the upscale dining experience (at least my experience there:). In my case, the standout menu selection was the Calamari appetizer, Fillet Mignon, and most of the dessert menu (especially the Bananas Foster for 2 prepared table side, and the huge piece of Red Velvet cake). The service was among the best I have had anywhere - from Seattle to Florida... How can I compare to a hick size town? The only way I can describe it! The appetizer was presented proudly professionally and only second to the taste. I had the fillet mignon-bone in - exceptional. The sides are similar to Morton's, Ruth Chris's in Indianapolis. I believe they did try to copy these institutions, rather than reinvent what already works. They have done a fine job in my opinion. At my age I am tired of ordering steaks (that I could cook better at home). Or wanting to go in the back and show the (dare I say) chief how to prepare a steak. Or even going to a butcher shop and picking up a desert on the way home. Here you will not think about doing this. They made everyone feel as though they were the only customer's in the restaurant. We ate at Eddie Merlot's on Tuesday night. It was a great experience. I have eaten at Eddie's on a number of occasions, but this was the first time i had been as part of a large group. The staff at Eddie's made us feel welcome from the moment we were seated to the time we left. I apologize that i am terrible with names, but our server, and everyone else who came to the table, was great. I had the filet with the gorgonzola crust. It was perfect. Eddie's is a fine dining establishment here in Fort Wayne. We make it a point to come here with friends every Christmas and are never disappointed. (This review is for our December dinner. Yes I am late) The atmosphere is very pleasant and classy; the staff is usually very nice. We did have a run in with a waitress last year earlier who didn't seem very pleased to wait on us, but that's okay, we all have our off days. We have a favorite waiter-Mark. He is very nice and funny to talk with, as well he knows the menu like the back of his hand. Some of our favorites here are the sweet potato casserole, the mac & cheese, and the steaks. The sweet potato casserole is a staple for us. We have to get it every time. It seems like more of a dessert, but that's okay, it always gets eaten. The Mac & Cheese is one of my absolute favorites. It's thick, cheesy, and very tasty. The steaks are delicious and I've yet to be disappointed in any. The seafood is good, about as good as I have had being in the middle of the country. The only disappointment, the inconsistency with the menu here on Yelp and in the restaurant. Prices are significantly higher (30%)at the restaurant on all of the items from the Chopped Salad to the steaks. That said, I mentioned this to bartender Anna (you're going to want to see her..) and she accommodated the prices advertised here on Yelp. The place has a very intimate vibe, you can go from casual to dressy. I think it's usually a place where you can invite close friends and family and guaranteed you'll have a great time.
