I have been a patron of Eddie's for 20 some odd years. There were many times I just showed up on a weekend evening and bought a ticket without knowing anything about the act. In all those years, I have never seen a bad performance. HOWEVER - the past 3-5 years have seen a tremendous decline in the technical execution of those performances. Eddies seems to have shifted to a "make everything loud" model and thrown actual sound quality by the wayside. Last night's performance was so bad that the performer called out the engineer three times from the stage, AND it was punishingly loud. 12 hours later and my ears are still ringing and this was an acoustic singer songwriter. Random reverb popping in and out? Check. Random panning of the sound system left to right? Check. Feedback? Multiple times? Check. Overdriving the monitors to the point the audio starts to crack? Check. I don't know wtf is going on. Maybe they're hiring deaf audio engineers. Whatever it is, they need to get a handle on it. read more

This is one of my very favorite venues in the world for experiencing music. And I do mean experiencing!! Eddie's is a listening room - not a bar. It is small and can feel a bit crowded when there is someone popular playing, but even when crowded, the crowd usually comprises a "seasoned" crowd of folks who are quiet and respectful of the artist. Most nights, there will be no loud conversations, or talking over the music. We have always had a wonderful experience here. We have seen Slaid Cleaves (x2), Al Stewart, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Suzy Bogguss, Joshua James and John Oates here. There is a restaurant and bar area on the patio outside for those who want to talk and/or are not attending an event. The food is pretty good, but this is not a food review. They also have a bar in the listening room and will serve you food in there, as well. I recommend the beignets and a pitcher of local craft beer. Also, for the best experience, get a group of four folks and reserve a table. Get there early and check in so you can get first choice of seats. Then grab a drink on the patio. Came here to see Howie Day and was amazed by what I found... Beignets with caramel dip: HOLY CRAP THESE ARE GOOD. They were hot and sweet and perfection. Soft, coated in sugar, and sweet when dipped in the caramel dip. ORDER THIS YOU WILL NOT REGRET! Calamari: Not bad. Could eat this forever if I wanted to. Its like that for me with their sweet potato fries tooo... nom... Pork tacos: not bad. I thought I wouldn't be full with the 3 tacos, but that third one was hard for me to finish. I joined a group of friends for a recent show at Eddie's Attic. I had heard that this club was legendary and was excited to see the Talbot Brothers, a band that my friends highly recommended. I would like to say that the the brothers were amazing! And what a great place to hear them, the room is small, and the sound was perfect. I loved the band! My low rating, however, comes from the poor menu and very expensive drinks. Eighteen dollars for extremely salty chicken tenders? Fifteen dollars for a cocktail? The most uncomfortable part of the evening was THE SMELL of grease that hangs in the air. I would have gone out to the patio for a breath of fresh but it was closed by 9pm. Come for the great performances, but please do not come for a meal or cocktail. read more

This review is for the venue itself. I arrived at Eddie's Attic at 8:45pm, when we were told doors open, for a 9pm show. People from the previous show were slowly leaving, and the workers were just beginning to cleanup the listening room. As I waited to check in, people kept cutting in front of me, as there was no organization or direction on where we should be. When I got to the front, the worker checking people in proceeded to have a conversation with a lady standing to the side, as I stood, clearly waiting to check in. After a few minutes of politely waiting for their conversation to end, someone behind me in line stepped forward, and told the worker that we were all waiting. This finally got his attention and moved things along. It was completely unprofessional and frustrating. At this point, being fed up and seeing that I wouldn't be entering the music room on time, I went to the outdoor bar area to get a drink. While service was on the slower side, the bartender was lovely, and acknowledged me and everyone else who arrived. She seemed overworked, but was attentive and very nice. We finally entered the listening room around 9:30. As a music venue, Eddie's Attic is great. It's intimate, a great listening experience, and the band and opener were both amazing. Bartenders and servers were also good. They walked around the venue a few times to take orders, and make sure we were all satisfied. Overall, Eddie's Attic is a good music venue with okay service. The worst experience at any establishment we've ever been to. I don't want to but I will give you all the warning of why to NEVER sit on the porch for a cocktail and dinner if you are in your golden years. From the beginning the service was slow . There was one person working the entire bar and deck. She made all the drinks as well. We ordered two glasses of house wine , Mahi tacos, chicken wings, and a nice salad. It took at least 20 mins to get the drinks and they were brought out by a young man who just appeared out of nowhere and then rushed away. When the food came my tacos were COLD and I debated, because I don't want to waste food but, they were actually cold to the touch, not warm. The lady takes the food back , but doesn't offer me a drink, as my wine glass was empty and there was no water. It was hot as hades. So a few mins later the "guy" comes back and says " you know we put cold toppings on the fish , so we're not sure how you want us to fix this". It sounded like it came straight from some uppity chef. I told him I know how things are made and I know how to cook, I don't care what u do except use a microwave . My wine glass still empty, so I asked for water and two wines. The same tacos came out and he says sarcastically " be careful these are going to be really hot". I just rolled my eyes to myself but my partner and I just shook our heads. So yes they microwaved them. They were steaming and to chewy to eat. Horrible waste of nice ingredients. As the people came out from the first show, another waitress comes on duty. No one came back to check on us , it took forever to get our drinks and I was trying to eat hot hard mahi tacos without even a glass of water. Which finally the young man brought. The original server never said she was leaving, and the new one never introduced herself. It appeared that everyone was being taking care of but us , and she kept looking right at us but never came over. We were the elders just waiting on some service. Restroom: I asked where it was;entered from the the deck and reached for the door and I was told "oh don't go in there, that's the green room. " like it was some super private club. The waitress is there and doesn't open her mouth to show me where the restroom was. Everyone we came in contact with was snooty. No towels in the restroom ... the man at the desk hands me a roll and says " just put it on the counter " . I said yes of course; he was not polite he did not apologize, he didn't break a smile. My boyfriend tells me there were no towels in the men's either. The kicker- the bill was $96 . The wine was $14 a glass. So over a hundred dollars for bar food and terrible service for two people. We could almost have had white table cloth for that price. It was terrible ... appalling. We were gouged! We were just so disappointed and I left hungry for $100. The kids working here need to learn to be respectful to the older age people... we enjoy the same things, music included( we had just been to the "John Denver " show. ) and have been enjoying Eddies since before they were born. Horrible millennials didn't want us in the establishment and a business that has the audacity to charge $14 for a glass of wine and only offer that one brand. An intimate and unassuming gem of a venue. I've always heard about the legendary acts that played at the Attic before they got their big breaks. I was excited to finally visit this beloved breeding ground for musical talent. I came on a Tuesday evening to see Ben Taylor play. Parking could not have been easier - I parked along the street in a metered spot across from the Chick-fil-A and caddy corner to the Eddie's Attic entrance. We got to the Attic around 7:00pm for an 8:00pm show to snag a good spot and grab a bite to eat. By the way - when you buy your tickets ahead of time online, you receive a handy dandy reminder email the day of the show that outlines tips and tricks and rules of the house for a show at Eddie's Attic. THE SPACE: We walked up the creaky old steps to the attic where the doorman checked our IDs, marked off our names on the list, and stamped cute little musical notes onto our hands. I was pleasantly surprised at the small size of the space. If I had to guesstimate, I'd say there's room for about 40 people. No matter where you sit in the place, you're going to feel like you are right within reach of the stage. It's like you're in a friend's attic (with a full kitchen and bar) just dropping in for a jam session. I'm a sucker for little shows like this where you really feel like you are up close and personal with the artist. There are little circular tables along the left side of the space on either side of a high-top island of stool seating. All of these tables had little "reserved" signs on them. When you purchase your tickets online, you have the option to purchase single tickets, or purchase a group of 4 to reserve a table ahead of time on a first come, first serve basis. My friend and I bought single tickets and were fortunate to arrive early enough to snag two stools at the worn wooden bar. We had a great spot, but there was an obnoxious pole in the middle of the room right in front of the stage that obstructed our view a bit, so we had to do some awkward leaning to get the view right. The space is old with wooden furnishings, and it's got a hipster-y vibe with some historic charm. You can just feel that this place has seen some true artists over the years. An interesting feature - along the back wall by the entrance to the main room is a random little set of stairs that I guess you could call stadium seating where people can perch and take in the show. FOOD AND DRINK: My friend and I were pleasantly surprised to find that the Eddie's Attic menu is beyond the stale and bland "bar food" that I'm accustomed to finding at bar venues: a hummus plate, a mahi mahi sandwich, black bean burger... and much more. I was also pleased with their drink list which includes a variety of domestic and imported beers on draft and bottled for anywhere from $3.50-$7.00. I went for my classic glass of red wine for $7.50. Pretty standard price for a glass of wine at a bar, but the pour was very generous. They also have a few quirky cocktails like a special twist on a moscow mule served with Cathead pecan vodka and ginger beer. My friend inquired about the salad special - a lump crab and avocado salad. Our server candidly gave us her opinion on the taste of it, explaining that the texture was a bit odd and unexpected. Deterred by this honest review, my friend ordered the chicken sandwich on a wheat bun with sweet potato fries. I ordered the thai salad with chicken, served up in a hefty bowl with cabbage, lettuce, mandarin oranges, cucumber, and fresh grilled chicken breast. I asked for no won-tons, but they missed that an threw them in anyway so I awkwardly picked them out on a napkin. One weird point worth noting - the bar staff keeps glasses of iceless water queued up at the bar, each with a straw, for anyone who requests water. No ice for you. Also, when I got to the bottom of mine, the servers did not offer to replenish. MUSIC: I've been listening to Ben Taylor since I was in high school, so of course I loved his songs and hearing his soothing, folksy voice in person. But the acoustics in the Attic are great. The sound guys worked the controls well and I never felt like I was being deafened by the volume. It's funny because the crowd is very much anti any kind of talking or whispering or noise-making during the sets. When someone tried to get a whispered word in, he was promptly hushed. Not sure if it was a staff member or a fan, but it was established early on that talking was a no no. I would love to come back to Eddie's attic for another tasty meal and intimately awesome show. It happens a lot these days when a company is bought out and the name remains. Eddie himself is long gone from the Attic but the name remains. The heartbeat of the place is gone and the feel is totally different. The music is still great but the last few times I've gone staff was rude, and crowd management and punctuality was nonexistent. When shows are late, there is no comfortable wait area. Drinks are slow and sometimes forgotten. The food is typical bar food. People are packed in and then told they are in the way. If there is a "must see" act, I suppose I might put up with the difficulties, even though it shouldn't be difficult to go to a show at bar. read more

I have been coming to Eddie's Attic to enjoy live music from some of my favorite local and touring artists for nearly twenty years - more than half my life! It remains one of the best venues in which to experience music, and I recommend it highly to anyone who has the chance to see an artist they enjoy performing there. Until last night, I had never had an even slightly negative experience there. Years ago, Eddie's Attic opened a bar and restaurant on their patio. I've eaten there a few times and never failed to enjoy the experience - delicious and creative food that's very reasonably-priced, especially for the area. However, last night Edward L. and I sat down at about 6:30. We had to ask for help several times (in a chill, polite way) as we watched two other tables - one of which included the performer, who was of course waited on right away - before we were finally seen. The situation didn't improve there. Our server, who appeared to be the only bartender working either bar as well as the only person taking any food orders - was very rude and dismissive. When Edward L. tried to be friendly and asked him if he was okay, the server just glared and said, "Go ahead, Dude." In other words, stop wasting my time, can't you see I'm slammed? Well, okay. So much for being pleasant! We put in our wine and food order. We still had about 45 minutes before the main performer took the stage and explained to him things were fine, we just wanted to be sure we didn't miss the show. He returned with the wine about 15 minutes later and explained that the kitchen was backed up, so we actually got the food about 40 minutes after ordering (over an hour after sitting down.) Edward L. and I are both easygoing people, but missing about a third of the concert we had paid and arrived in plenty of time to see really sucked. On the other hand, the food was delicious and the venue was as great a place for experiencing music as it always is. I do feel that there should have been a simple apology for our experience. The only thing keeping this at three stars is the fact that I've been here many many times before and this is the only time I've had such a negative experience. read more

I went there to hear a friend play but I also ate at the adjacent restaurant. The prices were good, the food was freshly made but average in terms of seasoning. I had the crab cakes, the wings, and ....something else I can't recall. As far as music goes, I agree that either the same people or same type of music is advertised however, I guess that really is not for me to say given that I have only been there once. I like to have some interaction with the performers and the whole quiet room thing sort of quenches that type of spirit however, I understand the theory (i.e. that don't want people there chit chatting and ignoring the music). In practice it ends up being like a protestant church were the only time you respond to the music is after the person is finished performing. I was here to listen to Adron's concert. I loved the venue. It is small and cosy. The concert was amazing, such a great turnout. The food was average priced. The servers were walking around all night but was also kind of hard to get hold of as because of the noise. I definitely enjoyed my first experience and hope to come to listen to more music here. Be aware: to sit at a table, you need to book at least 4 tickets.. so we showed up early to get good seats and ate.. i would also recommend going to Adron's concerts. Eddie's Attic is a great little venue, I love the cozy and quaint atmosphere and how "one on one" you feel with the artists performing. For parking, the courthouse parking deck is one block down the road and is free after 6pm (if you get there before 6, it's still free. If you leave before 6 you have to pay $6) so parking is a breeze. Our show started at 7:30, we came with my in laws who were coming from out of town, so we were hoping to eat dinner together beforehand. After perusing the menu beforehand, I was a little disappointed in the very low variety of options they provided. Once I got there, it made sense to me as to why. They definitely aren't equipped to being a full blown restaurant and music venue....if you are going to a show, I would highly recommend eating dinner at another local restaurant beforehand. It's really only good for a bar snack during the show, if that. I also found that their drink prices were pretty expensive. Not a complex drink menu, they do have an Old Fashioned on the menu but I would be super hesitant to try it! The tables are VERY small and crunched together, we were super fortunate that the show wasn't super packed or else we would have been squished in like sardines (we had a group of 4). These tables are more equipped for groups of 2, maybe 3 comfortably. I do like that they give you the option to pick where you sit, there really isn't one bad seat in the house! The show itself was incredible and we were so impressed with they way the show was run, the sound, etc. the artists are super interactive with the audience, which we loved. But it's also the birthplace of my love for acoustic guitar... so that also includes artists like Susan Werner, Rockwell Church, Willie Porter, Alexis Vear and so many more. This is an absolute must music venue because it is a "listening parlor" - not just your run-of-the-mill small concert joint. People are not only respectful, but reverent almost, of the folks who play here. I'd never heard of Eddie's Attic, so I didn't know what to expect...except that it was probably attic-like somehow. And it was. I was a bit overdressed for the situation, as per usual. But it was a cool, casual, intimate venue. The drinks were okay. I did enjoy my tuna burger. The Hubs had a veggie burger which he liked. We both were good and had salad sides, but I secretly wanted to try their fries. All in all, it was a chill spot to spend a Sunday night. This is a super place to see music. The sound is fabulous. They tell you to shut up and listen. (which I would do anyway but I appreciate not having to tell the other patrons to shut it.) They have a small but good beer selection. The food is pretty good too. If you go and don't buy a table you may need to stand or sit in the bleachers. As a music venue, I really like this spot. I've seen several shows here and that part is typically a very good experience. Small, intimate setup that is perfect for those singer/songwriter types. However, my recent experience led to a great deal of disappointment and frustration in regards to their service and drink prices. The average price of a draft beer here is now $8 (EIGHT!). Seriously??? A lot of them are local crafts that typically cost no more than $6 anywhere in Atlanta (which is still too high for a beer made a few miles away). My girlfriend got a glass of wine that cost 12 friggin dollars. This place isn't fine dining or anything I would even call upscale. Part of its "charm" is how much of a casual spot it is, so I don't know wtf they are doing selling booze for these prices. In an almost hilarious twist of irony, they have their "mission statement" displayed on the stage, which includes the following: "We hope you find the very best in service and entertainment value here at Eddie's Attic. It is our goal to make sure you leave with a smile, saying that you had the time of your life." Well if that's the case, Ed, STOP PRICE GOUGING YOUR CUSTOMERS! read more

This place is such a gem tucked inside the downtown area of Decatur. If you love supporting singer song writers and authentic/original artists, then look no further! I've attended a few shows and they all have been superb, both in the content of the artists, the experience, ad the generally very affordable pricing of the tickets. The last show I attended was only $12 per ticket and that was paying a little extra to secure a reserved table, which I encourage you doing. Otherwise, you might be standing with no where to perch if the show is packed. well, from what i could hear it was a great concert! my recommendation is don't sit by the bar if you'd like to hear the music. the bar tender is not only slow, but incredibly loud. slamming glass bottles in the trash can during the performance. it was like he was playing a game of how loud can i be before my boss tells me to quiet down? there were two extremely loud women at the bar talking the ENTIRE concert, and of course the bar tender walked by multiple times and didn't say a word. shocker! he was too busy taking shots with them. this venue needs to do a better job of policing their patrons as people come here to hear good music. the random employee walking around once during the concert with the "shhhhh" finger to his lips really does nothing. read more

Went to enjoy "Mother's Finest" 4/19/18 this was one of the best concerts I've been to in some time. The venue is intimate. There is a small bleacher like seating area. This is the best, you can see everything and feel the air. The tables are ok if you like being crowded as you munch out and drink. The staff was kind we did not eat their but the food that we saw looked pretty good. I will surely go back and recommend Eddie's Attic to the true music lover. Real music being played by true artist. Eddie's Attic is the best open mic venue, and by far, the best place in the US for any and all musicians to perform at. I've played here many times before, when I lived in Atlanta, and it was always a very pleasing, almost surreal experience. The audience is actually there to listen and appreciate the music. The musicians come from all over the country just to play at the open mic. The food is spectacular, and the drinks are decently priced. There is a cover charge for most events, but you will see that it is well worth it. There is also an outside patio for smoking/drinking, if you feel you need to take a break from the noise inside. I won a MySpace poll and was offered a chance to headline a show here. This was about 3 years ago. Still, to this day, that was the best show I have ever played. I couldn't think of a better place for any musician, independent, or not, to perform at. The vibe is intimate and quiet. If you're too loud, you will be asked to leave. I love that. I highly recommend/suggest Eddie's Attic to any music lovers either staying around or visiting Atlanta. You will not regret it. read more

Eddie's Attic just started a new Night Cap series for what appears to be hard rock and other non-acoustic acts. I hit up the Attic last Saturday to see one of my favorite local bands, Royal Thunder. To experience such gritty, kick-ass, sock-you-in-the-face rock live, I usually have to frequent smoke-ridden, dingy bars--which, no doubt, have their place in this great city. However, I appreciated that smoking was confined to the patio, where I sipped a whiskey/lemon/honey concoction for my sore throat. The intimate music space afforded a great view of the stage, particularly the ram head, which is my favorite part of Royal Thunder's set--lit candles stood erect near the horn area, melted wax from previous shows hardened across the animal's face. Eddie's Attic is comfortable and clean; I save money by not having to take my second hand smoke-saturated clothing to the dry cleaner the next day. read more

I've been going to see shows at Eddie's since I was sixteen or so. At that point, I'd heard about it for so long on Indigo Girls bootlegs and the like that I felt so hip and in the know. "Hey, want to go to Eddie's Attic tonight? It's downtownish. Or somewhere. I don't know who's playing, but it'd be something new to do." And that's how I saw Shawn Mullins for the first time. Twelve or so years later, I've now been to Eddie's a couple dozen times and have seen tons of people perform. Josh Joplin's gigs stand out, as well as last-last December's Indigo Girls fundraiser for a friend with some crazy-high medical bills. There was a while there when I had my doubts--another guy, Jennifer Nettles's husband, had bought the place and made a few changes I wasn't happy with. Last time I went to the Attic, things seemed more chill. The Indigos introduced Eddie himself and pointed out that he was the owner once again. Ah--so that's why things were feeling more calm, chill, and genuine. Or not: I've been known to project and/or read into things. Anywho. It's pretty great to be in a place where talking during the show is a big no-no. The "don't talk in here" policy is kindly announced on a large banner hanging behind the small, unassuming stage. (But "we've reserved the back patio for" talking and carousing, or whatever their word choice is.) In other words, shut up and listen to the music. Athens crowds could use a few thousand posters like this, but that's another story all together. P.S. I clicked "good for kids" because I think that non-bratty and whiny children, if mature enough, need to be exposed to all sorts of music--let's let 'em see that there's more out there than Top 40, dammit! There's nothing to compare to the live music experience. P.P.S. One negative thing: I don't dig the fact that they sell those teensy, tiny tables for four people at a significantly higher cost than four separate chairs would cost. Tip from Janet: just go early enough to snag a chair on the other side of the stage, or sit at the raised bar area and eat there if you want some of their slightly-above-average bar food. Unless your pockets are overflowing, the super-cramped table prices aren't worth it. (In the old days, that section was part of general admission--perhaps it still is on nights tables don't sell out, further adding to the injustice of selling the front tables to folks for higher costs. One of my favorite regional bands played an acoustic show here. I had heard of this venue, but never visited before. Sitting in downtown Decatur, and surrounded by government buildings, is this little treasure of a venue. This is a nice little neighborhood, with parking all around that is fairly accessible after hours, which is when you're likely to come to Eddie's. There's even a box in front of city hall next door where you can drop off a book or take one someone else has left. I might bring one next time. Entering, you find the main door to the venue covered with a simple message. The performers are the only people who should be talking inside. You see, the acoustics in here are fantastic, and lend themselves very well to singer/songwriter performances. It is also a small room, so if you come in laughing and carrying on, you will be pestering your fellow listeners. So if you're looking for a loud party, go elsewhere! This is a listening room, people. Be liberal with your shushing of other people if they're being rude. I know I was... Seating is very nicely done, with a number of four person tables as the most desirable spots, in my opinion. If you're late, as I was, there is a sort of small carpeted bleacher in the back right corner of the room, which provides more seating from which you can still see everything comfortably. There's a nice large bar and they do serve food, but I can't speak much to that as I was here only for the music. As concert venues go, this one is unique in the Atlanta area, to my knowledge. It's a nice, small, acoustic venue. I'd say it's a great alternative to a movie for a date, as you'll be sharing the spectacle in place of conversation. The staff that I spoke to was friendly, and the cover was low for a place with live music. The restroom was clean, and from what I saw there were many drink specials. Go check it out! The host walked us to our seats and I thought she was high on sum'thing after she showed us our seats at a tiny table with two strangers already seated comfortably. For my long legs or anyone who's over 5'8 this place is not for you. No leg room, tight seating arrangement and shared tables, uncomfortable to say the least but if you could overlook the above and you have short legs and don't mind waiters butts in your face. I don't have a bad thing to say about Eddie's except for that one time when John Mayer tweeted his secret show and I was approximately 20 people from the door before they hit capacity.... I suppose it had something to with getting lost coming in the back way to Decatur, but I digress. The concept of a listening room is the best thing about Eddie's Attic. Eddie (I believe?) gets up at the start of each show and lays it out - if you need to talk, you need to leave and take it out to the porch. I've seen some of my favorite artists at Eddie's Attic, and there isn't a bad seat in the house. The intimate setting and comfortable, storytelling atmosphere really make other venues pale in comparison. Aside from the music, the food is standard as bar food goes, and it always goes well with whatever happens to be on tap. If you're interested in a musician stopping through, or just looking for something to take in on a Monday night for songwriter's open mic, Eddie's Attic comes highly recommended from this corner of the Internet. read more

Sad to say but we came on Thursday and had a great night. Came back on Friday and had the worst time. They need to redo the way things operate here. I paid for tickets way in advance and arrived 30 minutes before show and got no seat what so ever and had to pay 10 to park. I sat in the bar area after spending a total of 40. If you get here early you can get in and get a seat or table if you only have a party of 4. This place needs to do something about seating no one wants to stand for hours for this type of concert. read more
