Eddies Mexican Restaurant, Ukiah, CA - September 20, 2024 - Chicken Molay
    Bruce O.

Eddies Mexican Restaurant, Ukiah, CA - September 20, 2024 We arrived at about 2:00 PM on a Friday afternoon. Service was prompt and friendly. The restaurant is simple and clean. I got the carnitas taco plate with rice and beans and my wife got the chicken Molay enchilada. Both meals were tasty. They have a nice hot sauce and jalapeño veggie blend that went well with the rice and beans and the chips. We paid about $25 for both meals. Seems about the going rate these days for a simple meal for two. I would come back.

    Chicken Tortilla soup.

Eddie's is a very small cafe with a limited menu. I stopped in for a quick lunch. A sign on the front window said they had chicken tortilla soup so that's what I ordered. It was full of finely shredded chicken, crispy tortilla strips, some avocado slices and a spoonful of sour cream. Exactly what I was in the mood for. Very happy with the food and the service. I'd go back.

Excellent burrito. Salsa was good (and hot). Guacamole was fresh and good. The staff was courteous and prompt. Food came made to order and was delicious.

We have lunch there regularly. No atmosphere, but the service and good food are why we go. The cabbage salsa is perfect!

I started with one of their house margaritas--great flavor, a solid punch, and just enough tequila to spark a pleasant buzz. For my main dish, I went with the steak taquitos... or maybe they were flautas. I usually prefer corn tortillas for taquitos, but these were still quite good. The steak was well-seasoned, and the garnishes and salsa rounded out the plate nicely. My friend ordered the sizzling trio of fajitas and asked for the veggies extra charred. Honestly, I don't blame her. The aroma of blistered peppers and onions filled the air in the best way. Service was also good but can use a little less checking in. We enjoyed the food, but even more, we enjoyed the atmosphere and each other's company.

Sooo watery flavorless at all and besides that no condiments anywhere, I had to buy my own chopping cilantro, onions and lemon by my home! Then I also ordered a fry fish for my daughter and it was the same sooo flavorless the fish and the rest in the order! Service soo slow and ignoring you when you asked for your order! I was expecting something else just to enjoy at home but obviously that didn't happen. I don't recommend at this point at all!

But, hey, they have a salsa bar that doesn't look like it's cleaned out very often, so that's probably why the food was expensive. One salsa, the red salsa, was horrible. I think someone dropped some Fabuloso in it or something. The rest of the salsas were watery and terrible. They did give us chips (a little stale) to wait for the food. We waited about 20 minutes for the food to get to us, and there were only 2 people other than us in the restaurant. The torta was terrible. It had absolutely no flavor. And I'm hazarding a guess that the meat was previously prepared, then microwaved. The burrito was less better, with the red sauce tasting like someone had run out of red sauce, then added a bunch of water to make more red sauce, then drenched the burrito in it. No flavor. The coke and the jarrito were good. As an extra, my son got sick from the burrito later. So there's that. No, not coming back.

We noticed it's counter service, so we took our time reading their menu on the wall before ordering at the register. I ordered their veggie burrito and my friend got the two piece combo plate with a cheese enchilada and a shredded chicken flauta. We also got two jamacia's and some chips and salsa. Food came out pretty quickly. As for the portions, they were a good size for the price. My veggie burrito was ok, not out of this world, but not the worst. The cheese enchilada was really good, great red sauce and it had a nice little crunch. My friend really enjoyed the rest of her combo plate. Overall, we enjoyed our visit. Good food, the people were incredibly nice, and it felt clean and comfortable.

The restaurant was still open and serving food. Obviously, employees want to get home early. But doing a major sanitizing wash of the restaurant while customers are in this restaurant eating, especially with strong smelling chemicals, is unprofessional. Important: I am not hypersensitive to smells. The chemicals they use to clean the floor or strong smelling and splashed onto the floor two feet away from where I was sitting.
