My bf took me for my birthday in November. I had a grilled chicken meal with rice and beans and collards. He had fried chicken collards and broccoli. The sides were either bland or spicy(collards). The rice and beans were good. My chicken was undercooked and unseasoned and his food was overcooked. The drinks and our waiter were great. The food was terrible. The music was also great. A nice vibe for drinks maybe.

$14 calamari, fork for size comparison.

TLDR: terrible, don't go. We went in on a Saturday to meet the about to be in-laws prior to the wedding. First, it says restaurant and bar with a small sign in the window that says Hookah. Nope it is a hookah lounge masquerading as a restaurant. The only other people there was a group in the back with hookahs. There was a DJ playing uncensored hip hop with kids around. I ordered calamari. It took about 20 minutes, $14 for a tiny bowl that was flavorless. We all ordered. About a half hour later they started bringing food out. One person at a time. After about five people she asked me how I wanted my crab cakes cooked, not a good sign. She brought out my son's lamb chops, cooked right and no flavor at all. The best man ordered a patty melt, confirmed it was a patty melt, nope, it was a regular cheeseburger they cooked medium rare. At an hour and fifteen minutes they finally brought out someone else's baked potato, yes all he ordered was a baked potato and it took over an 75 minutes. The she looked at me and said my crab cakes were coming. 15 minutes later I told her to cancel them. they argued because they'd be up soon, Nope, didn't want them, just wanted to go. I didn't realize other people in our party hadn't gotten their food either, we couldn't hear over the profanity in the music. after I paid for my calamari and his baked potato, $38 because all orders regardless of size of party have a 18% gratuity and the machine had a minimum 3%, another server said my crab cakes were done. told her I didn't want them. She said they were done so they'd give me 20% off. I had to tell her 3 times I didn't want them. Then the manager came over, one of the guys smoking a hookah the whole time. He apologized, said if he knew they were behind and had called him he'd have helped. If I was local he'd give me my next meal free. Offered me the crab cakes again at a discount since they were done. Had to tell him 3 times I didn't want them. I found out the next day the other people in our party that tried to cancel their food after 75 minutes had to pay and it was put in take out containers. I'd never recommend. One star because that is the minimum.

    Much potential in ambience

First Id like to mention I found Eden at the Beach through Tiktok. We were looking for a Sunday brunch spot & decided on this location because the others were at capacity & not to mention we only wanted to support black owned that day. Let's get into it. Upon entry there was a smell. I first said dogs but my friend said it wasn't that bad but there was a clear odor. We arrived about 11am, there was a table of 4 girls then us (party of 2). It was obvious that the restaurant hadn't been cleaned from the party the night before. Our table was still clammy with fries & dirt underneath. Our server/ bartender was slightly attentive to our needs. Lastly the menu states that my meal (oxtails & grits) comes with eggs. He states that's no longer an option & the menu hasn't been updated. Lastly the condiments containers hadn't been cleaned. They came with hair stuck to the bottle of syrup. The look of the restaurant has so much potential but the owners aren't taking care of this establishment properly. Its over priced & the food was subpar.

They've made some updates since my last review. I noticed they swapped out the bar stools for what seem to be a bit more accommodating in style. They added cushion to the church benches, although they are a bit "grippy". They updated the other bar and also the outside area. I believe they have a cornhole section and from what I could tell, an area that could be really fun during the warmer months. The overall vibe is so quirky, cool, different, and I just love how it's decorated. The other locations have the same sort of intrigue but in much different ways. I still love the OG Bay Local and probably need to visit there again to be reminded of why we fell in love in the first place, but the location on General Booth... hard to beat, especially being so close. Another positive is the food quantity, quality, and price for what you are getting. Sure, almost every food establishment had to raise their price, but Bay Local seem to be very reasonable, ESPECIALLY for what you get. I know several other places that have good food, but you are paying several dollars more for what Bay Local offers that is similar (in some cases) but not slacking on portion control and quality. That is huge! Bay Local is a "well-oiled machine" with management, staff, and operations (not their first rodeo). The staff are attentive, friendly, fast in service, including fixing anything that may not have been correct, and still hold the quality of what they offer. Congrats to a great establishment, and it will remain on the top slots of our brunch list!

We came here for our pre-Valentine's Day dinner. Our waiter was really nice. He was prompt and he paid attention and was an attentive listener, which was really nice as a server. I got an appetizer or a starter. That was the grilled rustic bread along with the seafood pasta, and my boyfriend got the Civil burger. I forgot the name of the drink, but it was an espresso martini. Everything was delicious and tasted really good and the meal was cooked perfectly! Wish their menu was a bit bigger with a lot more variety. Overall a 5 star place!

I would recommend sitting in a booth far away from the door during winter because the breeze can be quite cold. The booths are also super comfortable and very well padded. My husband ended up getting the chorizo scramble which he liked a lot. I ended up ordering the steak and eggs. The compound butter that comes with the steak and eggs is amazing on toast or steak. I got a blood orange drink that was OK, but I wouldn't get it again. The second drink I got was with Rose and lavender and I would definitely get that again. We love this place. This is our second time going and we will be back!

The staff and even some fellow customers were very accommodating to my friends to help them get seated. Other customers were excited to let my friends know that it is worth the trip. The trip was two+ hours one way. My fried oysters, cheese chive potatoes, asparagus, and crab cake were superb. The cheese samplers were on point. My one friend could not have the nuts and my other friend had some different food allergy that I don't remember- so I had to eat all three samplers because fingers crossed I have no food allergies and I like to minimize food waste as part of being more sustainable and my own culture. I seem to have missed a picture of the Jellyfish Sting drink I had. It was flavorful enough and I liked the rose syrup in particular. The blueberry lemonade cocktail was sweet like I like my drinks. The key lime has a cashew crust that sounds like it compliments the key line well and I had it the last time and loved it. I am not sure if they always use cashew crust. My guess would be yes. Unfortunately one of my friends is allergic to nuts and he could not have it. I believe all the food is made from scratch and it certainly tastes that way. I think the quality prepared seafood and the making from scratch contribute to the limited opening hours of this restaurant. If you are in the area, a must visit if you like seafood. 5/25/26: I forgot to add that I was impressed that they added a mocktail menu and vegan chicken as an option. I think that they should have a vegan seafood option as well being a top notch seafood place in keeping up w the present times for what people would like for options within reason.

Although we sat outside (because we were dining with a dog), we never had to wait too long for the waitress to check on us. Every 5-10 minutes, she dropped by to make sure things were going well and to refill our coffee. Since The Egg Bistro has a HUGE breakfast menu, I'm sure everyone should be able to find something that they will/might enjoy. For my dining pleasure, I tried something new and went with the Bennie & the Grits. This dish piqued my interest because I never heard of grits cakes in the four decades of living on this planet. For about 20 bucks, the dish included three fried grit cakes with ground sausage, grilled shrimp, more sausage, two poached eggs and a side. Although the serving size was HUGE, I was not a bit fan of the dish. Note, I didn't think the dish was prepared badly, I just didn't get the concept of the fried grits (this from a grits lover); however, everything else with the dish was pretty good. If you are a Bloody Mary lover, you might some interesting varieties of Bloody Marys here. Additionally, I really appreciated that The Egg Bistro ranks the Bloody Marys based on spice level. Overall, I definitely would not mind visiting this location during a future trip to Va Beach. The only (very) minor issue that I had was that the outdoor seating is right next to the parking lot so you might experience some exhaust fumes/smoke while eating if you chose to dine outside. Again, this would not have been a (very) minor issue if we were not dining with a dog.
