My fiancé and I stumbled upon Exotic Bonsai as we were looking to start a bonsai collection of our very own. We drove to the location on the yelp review and somehow ended up in a neighborhood. We were confused and before driving away we saw a man walk out of his house and we asked if he knew where we could find bonsai trees. He told us to park and come with him to his backyard and introduced himself as Ray. He led us to his collection of bonsai trees tucked away in his backyard. There were so many types of bonsai's and they were all so beautiful! Ray was so knowledgeable and inviting and he answered all of our questions about taking care of our first bonsai tree. We walked away with a small bonsai of our very own to start our collection. Definitely recommend this spot to check out some beautiful bonsai trees! He also mentioned that he was writing a book about Bonsai's Tree's - we are very eager to read! We also met his chicken (Miss Chicken)!

I came for expert consultation from Ray who is a Bonsai master who is constantly evolving how he envisions bonsai over the last 40 years in this ancient art form. Ray is spiritual, grounded, scientific in his horticulture knowledge and is a positive spirit. He was glad to share his knowledge and time with me. I am rescuing a 40+ year old Grey Bark Elm that has been left to grow unchecked under a tree in my neighbor's yard who got out of Bonsai 25 years ago. Ray saw photos and was very excited to help me with my quest. Can't wait to come back to get more insights and support his business. More to come as my Bonsai story unfolds. Oh, make sure to say hi to his pet chicken residing in the front yard!

Phil and Rey were awesome. They have a modest assortment of bonsai from small (~5 years) to much larger (~70+ years), ranging from $50 and up. Their nursery is in the backyard of their home and I loved how welcoming they were; truly felt like I was stepping into a little world they've created. Rey had great words of wisdom and I left feeling inspired and humbled. I will be back!

Everyone here is so sweet and they really take great pride in their bonsai. Def come in and check them out, but be sure to call first since this is a residential home!

Very nice selection of Bonsai. The man is very knowledgeable and will help you choose the right Bonsai depending on your experience and where you would place your tree. He is currently working on a book so I look forward to reading it. Also, call the business # once you are outside so they can help you in.

I was currently trying to buy a bonsai and I stumbled on to this place and I'm so happy I did. Reynaldo A.K.A Rey is the best. I told him how I was just starting off and he helped me choose the best one for the best affordable price. Not only did he help me out but he gave me tips on how to take care of my bonsai. He showed me around and I was just amazed on how many bonsai trees he has. And he cares and nurtures each and everyone of them. He doesn't mind helping you out whenever you need help. I just went back there for the second time because I had more questions and he was more than happy to answer them. This is a home business which I feel is even better because this way I know he takes care of them the best he can. If you're looking to start off or if you already have experience but want another bonsai you HAVE to check this place out. Just make sure you give him a call first! No other place beats this!

This place is fantastic. I got a magical forest here. A butterfly visited me as I perused the amazing bonsai selections raised with loving care by the owner. I came for a gift but knew I couldn't let it go. So I kept it! I wanted a plant but couldn't stomach the idea of giving my money to a big home improvement store full of toxic chemicals. Buy local, buy small business!

Reynoldo is a master of his craft, a bonsai ambassador even. I came in looking for a gift, and I ended up leaving with my own bonsai mini forest. I have nothing but positive things to say about Exotic Bonsai. Reynoldo has got to be one of the most honest business owners I've met in a long time. Give yourself at least 30 minutes to look around. You won't be disappointed. Thank you for the beautiful specimen Reynoldo! R

This is the perfect place for a birthday or holiday gift. Fely and Reynaldo are so friendly and knowledgeable, and walking into their backyard to see the bonsai is like stepping into a secret wonderland. You'd never know such a gem existed here in an unsuspecting neighborhood of LA! The bonsai themselves are astounding, varying widely in species and age, and Fely described to us the differences in how each needs to be cared for. Decades of work have gone into many of these plants. This is in a residential neighborhood, and not open all the time, so do call in advance to make sure they're accepting visitors (especially right now during the pandemic). Buy your bonsai here rather than at a bigger chain--you'll have a much better experience and get yourself a much better bonsai.

Very knowledgable in growing and nurturing bonsais. Since he nurtured and has a sense of attachment with his plants, he makes sure that you understand what you are getting into before you leave with a bonsai. This is not a place where bonsais are mass-produced; each of them is unique. It is home-based and should call before a visit. He shared his insights and his point of view in a very respectful manner. I feel like I learned from a bonsai master.

Very well satisfied with our Bonsai from Mr. Reynaldo Roter. I can tell how much he loved and nurtured the Bonsai we got. I highly recommend this place :) I had such a great experience.

Yes, it does exist at this location. It's a home business. Just make a phone call and Reynoldo and will let you in his amazing backyard bonsai garden. He's nice and knowledgeable.

Bianca and Matt were incredibly helpful, and Matt especially impressed me with his plant knowledge. He really knew his stuff and made the whole experience even better! I was impressed by the size of the store, with both an indoor and outdoor section filled plants, planting supplies, and other types of home decor. Staff members were friendly and patient whenever I had questions or needed assistance, and they were very attentive. Given the huge layout it could take some time to find a free employee, but their workers made sure I knew about the various options that could meet my search criteria. I was pleased with the pots that I found and thought the prices were comparative to what I saw at Sunset Nursery. I would definitely recommend checking out this shop!

"Oh, Mickey…read more.. You're so fine! You're so fine, you blow my mind! Hey Mickey! Hey Mickey!" Mickey Hargitay Plants is the coolest little big plant store, plant nursery, garden center and serene landscaping places I've ever seen. From the pure vibrant vibes to the incredible staff that make this gem thrive. Tucked away in Hollywood on the cusp of West Hollywood off of Sycamore Ave and Fountain Avenue, just a small skip east from La Brea Avenue. They're open from 9 AM until 5:30 PM all 7 days of the week. And carry plants, planters, gardening essentials and wonderoud things of all shapes and sizes. I've been passing by frequently for nearly two months on my way to work usually before they're open or after they're closed on as I make my way home and finally got to stop in and explore. That wave of calm, relaxation and vibrance that being around nature and all it's planty goodness lives here in abundance. Explore in person, place orders for pick up or even delivery. Mickey Hargitay has a rich history to match it's ambiance since it's birth in 1980, starting off with succulents, cacti and their own macrame designs Voted one of the best places to buy plants in 2015. Featured in the L.A. Times in 2016. Featured in Voyage LA in 2021. Not to mention a great spotlight in 2025. Founded and owned by Mickey Hartigay Jr. a fellow Sag and plant lover like myself. He and every single person here is a gem, I picked up on nothing but good energy even after the end of a long day and rainy weekend everyone here does their best to bring a slice of joy to each person. Ringing up my assortment right as they were closing they still didn't miss a beat. Hoping to stop in a lot more (scheduling pending) and get to know everyone, find more plants for the house as well as a new plant for my boyfriends place of even bring him in to explore. Pup friendly. Family friendly And very much open to all. Recently started following their Insta and I'm "obsessulated!" Easy parking in the neighborhood, street parking primarily or an easy stroll in closeby, riding the metro or parked off La Brea. Four new very healthy plants in various sizes for under $20... Jimmy is one hardworking dude, I see him there all the time. This plant spot is great for small gifts like a $10 plant or a thousand dollar Australian tree! They're pretty amazing and he has a great selection. Parking is not that hard. Just drive up college street towards Jade Wok and there's plenty of metered parking north of hill street. That's a 3 min walk. Or try the lot by Bruce Lee statue ($5) or get a slice at La Sorteds and park in their $5 lot. Or go to the atm across the street at Bank of America and get validated. So many options. Of course, make it a day and get a slice of strawberry cake from the famous Phoenix Bakery and latte from Thank You Coffee.

**OK INDOOR HOUSE PLANT SELECTIONS IN CHINATOWN**…read more After eating at nearby Broadway Cuisine, we wandered into this garden shop while exploring the area. PARKING There are nearby lots, but we had street metered parking. Most likely limited, especially on weekends. AMBIANCE A typical Broadway storefront in the heart of Chinatown. The space is airy and bright, with natural light filtering in from above. PLANTS I purchased a 12" watermelon peperomia for $40. They didn't have the fiddle-leaf fig I was hoping to find. Credit cards are accepted. The overall plant selection is decent, and everything looked healthy. OVERALL The staff was pleasant but hands-off, not informative unless you ask. I didn't receive care instructions until I was practically out the door. Pricing leans medium-high (but reasonable), so this isn't a budget-friendly stop, but the quality is solid, and it's nice to support a local, family-owned business.
