Great food, nice servers, good service. This is the only Chinese food in Yamhill County that gets our repeat business.

Eden's Gate has two parts to them. The first part is the Restaurant which is what you expect. I would say it is a little run down but the food is good. It is a standard Americanized Chinese food. In Newberg I do think it is the best out of all the options. The food actually has flavor! The times I have been there the staff is nice, quick and efficient. The bill is always cheap and that just is what it is. Now the second part to Eden's gate is the bar. Cash only! Be prepared. There is a 2 drinks per hour max rule.. which is fine but odd. Karaoke there is fun! We have been there for a few parties and it can be a blast. This is 100% a dive bar. Don't expect anything fancy. read more

Tired. That's the theme. This place is just tired. Deferred maintenance is the motto here. The food is ok at best. The service is ok at best. This place is just off 99W headed south. If you're northbound on 99W, you'll have to go down to the light and turn around; you can't turn left into their lot. They have a large parking lot. Accessibility is good; there are no steps or confined doorways. It's all easy enough. There are a few vegetarian options, but I'm not sure how far I trust this kitchen to avoid cross-contamination. It just depends on how seriously vegetarian you are. I wouldn't characterize this as a great place for kids; there's no kid's menu. But they can accommodate large groups. In conclusion, decent prices and large servings, but it's all very dull and drab. read more

I was torn between a four and five. I'm settling in five because it was a five for me and with covid we could all be a little more generous Best sweet and sour pork I've ever had. No question. Every one up till now has been over cooked unidentifiable meat/gristle chunks that challenge my dental work. Not this one. Fried shrimp was cooked well enough and was decently deturded. BBQ pork was a little tough but I've had worse. The #11 is really a lot of food. I'm glad I was able to try everything. When I come back I'll probably just stick to the sweet and sour. The Mongolian beef was a nice was to show off the range of bean sprouts but I could pass next time. To say that Covid has done harm to this business would be an understatement. It's a skeleton of what it once was. There used to be tables and booths filled with customers. Now there are takeout orders being picked up and maybe one or two tables with customers seated and eating. Another two have the evidence that someone was there earlier. There is one person taking the orders over the phone and waiting on the table that seat themselves. It's a full menu with many choices. The prices are what attract a loyal following. At least at the time of this review they were holding steady. For the full meal you get it's worth the volume of food. The flavor of the main meal was bland. The rice seemed like rice that had been sitting in a large rice cooker. Clearly it had been cooked and cooked some more to the point where the last time they cooked it was the last time too many. My husband and I came 1 1/2 hours before closing on a Thursday night. The restaurant had 2 other patrons besides us at the time. We were greeted by the server and told to "sit any where". We were brought waters to drink but neither asked nor offered anything else to drink. But I did request HOT tea to the table. Unfortunately, I received luke warm tea at best. The restaurant emptied out leaving us the only patrons to wait on so our server thought it ok to be on her phone sitting at a table across the room from us. The restaurant is old, dirty and the seats were WORN with dirty looking tape to repair holes worn in the booth seat. While taking our order, we inquired about the lack of combo meals to include sweet and sour chicken as it was lacking in most all combo meals. The response was "yeah, well...all restaurants are different". My husband chose to pay the extra $2.00 for the substitute not expecting how HORRIBLE the food would be! We received our soup and immediately received the dinner selection after on plastic plates. The two items we started with were the sweet and sour chicken and sweet and sour pork and fried shrimp. All of the above were INEDIBLE! They were COLD and way OVER COOKED beyond individual recognition in taste. We stopped after trying to get these items down and finding everything else cold unappealing. We were checked on at the table on time but from her seat across the room while sitting down at her phone. We cashed out and made comments about our lack of happiness with food only to have them go ignored. So, we have concluded that we will never go back, and HIGHLY recommend anyone wanting a decent meal perhaps go way before 1 1/2 hours before closing to get a chance of acceptable food. read more

Used to go here all of the time but since new management it's not the same. We really enjoyed watching the chef's cook our food and now the windows are covered up which concerns me that management is hiding something back there. They also took away the Sweet and Sour Spare ribs off the menu and changed the combinations. We liked it just the way it was. Why change it. it's not for the better I assure you. The staff has been there a really long time so it's nice to see familiar faces like our waitress Lillian. She always been great. Alway's so cheerful and friendly. She works hard too. The place used to be full but now seems empty when we go. Sad to see. The food has always been good and hope that won't change. My family and I visited Eden's Gate after hearing it had new owners. The best part of the experience was our waitress, Lillian. She was friendly, attentive, helpful and a complete joy. It is very difficult to find an employee like Lillian these days. The food was good. The restaurant itself still had the same physical appearance. On April first six of us went to dinner at Eden Gate for a birthday party. I have been there many times and always enjoyed the atmosphere and food. But after the last visit it will be my last time there. I realize new owners have the right to do it the way they see fit but the customers will always have the last say "with their patronage" There was six of us and maybe three other group in the place "not busy". We sat for about an half an hour before the waitress started taking our order until the phone rang. Of course being the only waitress she had to answer it and it took awhile. So after the phone call, it was back to the customers, Not us. We had to ask if we could give our order and was put off. Orders were finally made and soups were served. I was looking forward to the Hot and Sour Soup. The recipe was changed not in a good way. The soup was colder than usual and had ingredients that were changed. Ok I can live with that but the main course arrived four out of six dinners were made wrong and they didn't seem to know how to fix it. The food seemed to be pre-made then microwaved as ordered. Disappointing I am not blaming the waitress for the food that is a kitchen problem but one person as the entire wait staff for a place like that reflects poorly on the restaurant owner because they are unwilling to pay for a larger staff. Wonderful Chinese food! Cooked to perfection! Shrimp and scallops cooked perfectly, and crisp vegetables. Not greasy like some other local Chinese places. The staff were friendly and very nice and polite. If you want a good strong alcoholic drink, this is the place to go. Husband ordered a Spanish coffee, and it was really strong and really good! I've been bringing my family here for about 5 years but we'll never go back after tonight. They used to have the best food. We would get the family dinner and it came with a cool appetizer centerpiece with a little grill in it, it was really cool. Sadly they have changed owners and completely redid the menu and no longer offer this. The food has changed too. They used to have the best general tso chicken around, now it's terrible. We had the general tso and the sweet and sour chicken and both were bad. It tasted like the frozen chicken you get at Safeway and cook in your air fryer. Definitely not made fresh. There were cold spots in the food. It's obviously just reheated Safeway frozen food. They used to have a window where you could watch them cook but they put a curtain over it so that you can't see that they are just microwaving your food now. My husband & I just got back into town & was craving Chinese food on New Years Day. A bunch of phone orders while we were dinning. It was very calm on restaurant side and it's pretty traditional for a Chinese restaurant as for decor- very open, welcoming and clean. We loved that we were able to watch them make food in the kitchen with the window. We went to check out the bar area which is a fun hangout. Service was wonderful, very kind and on top of it. When my kid and I entered, we were acknowledged quickly and were nodded towards a clean table for us to dine at. Our server was very kind and patient with us and we got our food about 5-10 minutes later. Very fast service. Though, the fried shrimp we got was not cleaned out and there were still veins inside. Very gross. We ended up just eating the outside fried layer and left the shrimp. The egg roll we ordered also had no taste and didn't taste like it was cooked fully. If I could give this place less than one star, then I would give it negative stars! We ordered take out, got home, and it nasty. We ended up throwing away the whole order. The egg roll can only be described as a corn dog after a nuclear fallout. I am not even sure what was inside because I bent a silver fork trying to pry it open. The fried shrimp and pork had been fried to the point of being used to re-gravel an old country road. The Mongolian beef appeared to be repackaged food scraps in an attempt to cut costs. The BBQ pork seemed to be undercooked and rubbery. I would have returned the food if I hadn't vowed to never step foot inside that place ever again. This was absolutely the worst meal I have had in my entire life. Why is the egg roll crusted with thick breading around the rice paper?? Look at the picture yourself. Then the chow mein...it's white with no noodles inside. It was disgusting. Then the broccoli in the beef and broccoli dish looked like several days old. You can tell by looking at the vegetables and the texture in your mouth.
