Had lunch on the wonderful back deck today. Staff was so friendly and welcoming. Had blackened shrimp flatbread (will order again and again), their signature burger (high quality meat cooked to perfection), fried jumbo (they aren't lying) shrimp, and fried Mahi (the batter was great), and hand cut fries (best I've had in a long time). This is a fairly new dining spot in Southport and they've done a great job with the remodel where Yacht Basin Eatery was previously. Everything looks welcoming when you walk up the ramp, especially the outdoor patio on your left which is closed now but will be lovely in the spring overlooking the water. There are several reasons I'm only giving three stars. In spite of the great remodel, the tiny indoor dining space feels like being in a cafeteria. They've gone to the expense to put lovely lighting in but have all the bright can lights on in addition to the ambient lights. Way, way too much light for the atmosphere they seem to be going for. The tables and chairs feel very much like what you would see in a cafeteria, quite uncomfortable. It's also hot, oppressively hot. Both in the small indoor dining area and the outdoor area on the water side of the restaurant. There were 3 of us. The server was polite and attentive. We had the charcuterie board which was unimpressive. It needs more pickled options other than 3 sliced bread & butter pickles for some contrast and texture. The huge glob of stone ground mustard confused all of us. The bread slices were way over toasted to the point of burnt. The fresh baked bread brought out in a crock was also nothing to get excited about, just plain dry white bread. The way it was puffed up in its crock we thought it might be a tasty brioche or something much more exciting than white bread. We had two Korean bowls which were good, probably the highlight of the dinner. I had the pommes frites and the steak was tough and very unflavored. It tasted like it had been frozen. The sauce served with it (on the side) tasted like A1 and Worcestershire combined. Was not a fan. It also had a big dollop of what I assume was an aioli but tasted like nothing more than mayonnaise. We each had a cocktail from the menu, no dessert. The bill was $160 before tip. Almost $200 with tip. For 3 people, this seemed very high. I think this restaurant has the potential to become a good restaurant with a little time and working out the kinks of being new. They use Open Table online reservations so that's a big plus! I will go back in the spring and try their outdoor patio in hopes that it will become a favorite new spot. It does feel a little pricey to me for this area but it's a cute new place. read more

Austin was our server and he's great, very attentive! The Brussels are a must try, as an appetizer it would easily serve 6 people. My mother had the Rueben sandwich and said it's the best, which she's tried every local restaurant from Holden Beach to Wilmington that has them so a true compliment! Fries are perfect! The food and views were amazing. We started with cocktails. My husband got The Brooklyn and I got a cucumber version of a Tom Collins with vodka. Both were very good and very balanced. For appetizers, we got the honeysuckle butter board with grilled house-made focaccia, the crab stuffed shrimp scampi, soup du jour, and a salad. Let's start with the honeysuckle butter board. The focaccia was very good and had the right amount of springiness. The honeysuckle butter was good, but I think it would benefit from some large grains of salt (like French salted butter). It would be a nice contrast to the sweetness and the bread. The presentation was very nice. The crab-stuffed shrimp were amazing! Not too much breading, large shrimp, lots of crab, and no cheese! This appy was gone in a few minutes! I used the rest of the bread to get all the crab and butter juices out of the pan....so good! I know I just got through praising the crab-shrimp but next up was the soup du jour. It was a beef fennel soup. When I heard the waitress mention it my first thought was no. But my husband, who loves a good soup ordered it. I was glad he did. It was amazing. It was a clear broth with beef chunks and fennel slices. It was reminiscent of a pho broth where beef bones are roasted to produce such a complex beefy flavored broth. The soup was so good I got an extra to go. I'm upset it's the soup of the day, so I might not see it again. Man, that soup was good. I digress. For our entrees, we got the fish special and the burger. The fish special was pan-fried grouper over crispy red potatoes with a sauce on the side (I don't remember all of what was in the sauce). The grouper was a good size portion and was very tasty. It was cooked perfectly. The red potatoes were nice and crispy. The sauce was only okay. I felt it was missing a complex flavor that would just elevate it. On to the burger. My husband absolutely loved the burger. The french fries with the burger were a little soggy but he said it oddly paired well with the burger. We were so stuffed we didn't get a chance to order dessert but will definitely be back. read more

Michael and Grace took care of us when we needed a table for eight. Our waitress, Bailey was so attentive and cheerful. She is one of the best servers we have ever had. Her suggestions for food were spot on! The food and drinks were outstanding. Any glitches we had in the meal were addressed and quickly resolved. I sat outside next to the water and really enjoyed this dock seating. It was decorated really nicely compared to some of the other outdoor dining I've been to. I ordered the sea scallops which were absolutely divine. The food was cooked to perfection and really hit the spot. My server was a kind young gal, and she was very good at reading my needs. I want to love this place for its great view. However, the four times I have been here it is inconsistent. 1/4 was excellent it was at the bar and the three other times at the tables. My most recent experience. The bartender was the waiter as well making service slow and spotty. Had to send back the meat to be fully cooked and seasoned as ordered. First time trying Edgewater. Our server Julie did a great job with a party of 8. Drinks were good. People in our party had the mussels, arancini, and the octopus special appetizer. For dinner we had the pork shank, branzino, shrimp and grits, steak frites and scallops. People enjoyed their food. A little pricy for what you get. The biggest rip off is the scallops. Three scallops for $36. The sauce on the shrimp and grits was tasty but again the portions are small (6 shrimp). Overall an enjoyable place for dinner on the water. Seems like the portions on the appetizers are larger than the dinners. Next time we might be better off just getting appetizers and cocktails like other reviewers have said. read more

We were walking through Southport and wanted to get dinner. We saw the hosted and menu and decided to give this place a try. It was a modern decor inside and a very nice deck dining area. It was too hot for us outside so dining in was fantastic. We started with edamame and it was delicious! We had the grouper special, salmon and scallop entrees and they were all seasoned and cooked perfectly. The salmon with the succotash was the favorite of the table. We were looking forward to eating here since it was highly recommended to us. The inside was nice and the host was welcoming. We ordered the special for that night, a $50 steak and the steak frites and were not impressed for the price. The worst thing was the service. Our server took our order and did not come over to the table again until we were ready for the check leaving us with empty drinks. We thought he may have been busy but after noticing how much time he spent with his other 2 tables we realized that wasn't the case. To say we were disappointed was an understatement. read more

I highly recommend this restaurant. My husband and I moved here from NYC and were so happy to find that this restaurant has quality ingredients and excellent technique of food preperation. You don't have to go to wilmington for a fantastic meal, you can get it right in the yacht basin! Pricing is a la cart but the portions are a really nice size. The starters like the Brussels sprouts and the mussels are big enough to share for 4 people. I also love that you can arrive by boat. This place is obviously still getting it all together. We made a reservation that included our pup. When we got there, they denied us saying they didn't know we had a pet... saying they didn't have space for us. Inside dining room acoustics are awful. If you have to sit inside near bar be prepared to not hear your server but everyone else at the bar. Asked to move multiple times but was told no even though there were many open tables. Scallops were good. Everything else was SUPER salty. Do not order the shrimp scampi unless you want soup. Served in a bowl with what looked like a scampi broth. Kinda gross. Menu extremely limited. View was nice but everyone has a view down there. It will be worth it to wait for one of the other traditional places like Oliver's or Provisions. read more
