On a whim last night we decided to head out of the city to grab some eats. I had heard good things about the Edgewater Inn and this was my first time dining here. I was pleasantly surprised to find this gem just west of downtown Denver: Atmosphere: only a 5 minute drive west of Denver and you'll run into the small town of Edgewater. I honestly felt like I traveled to a town of 500 people going out to Edgewater. We ate out in their main dining room, there was no hostess so we seated ourselves. The decor was basic, though there were some LCD TV's to watch the Rockies game while we ate. It was comforting looking around the room to see lots of smiling faces and plenty of locals that were surely regulars to the Inn. All in all a very welcoming environment. Experience: It was refreshing to only drive 5 minutes and find this gem. The wait staff was great and quickly served us our drinks and apps. The service was quick and our waitress was pleasant. The Food: The Edgewater Inn come to find out is known for their pizza so we most certainly had to try it out. Before having our pepperoni, green pepper, and mushroom pizza we did have a small app. Our app was their cheesy garlic bread and it was nothing special, but it satisfied our growing hunger from errands all day in the city. The pizza at the Inn is all cooked in their brick oven. I am originally from the east coast and everyone in Denver knows that good pizza is hard to come by in these parts. The Inn changed that for me last night. The foundation to a great pizza is great dough and equally great crust. Their pizza did just that. I'm fairly certain that the crust was polished with both butter and salt to give a crispy salty taste. The cheese also seemed to be a combo of mozzarella and ricotta which made for a superior pie. Conclusion: I would highly recommend the Edgewater Inn to anyone looking for some great pizza and a pleasant environment. It truly is an escape to a small town just 5 minutes from Denver. I will be going back again soon. Specials: from 12-4 most days they have $1 Coors drafts and $1.50 Blue Moon drafts...a great deal for all those day drinkers out there. read more

This place was highly recommended by an old Edgewater neighborhood dweller that I met at the Broncos game. I got the Howdy Special and a couple of salads to carry out. She said it would be a half hour. I got there a little late and still waited 15 minutes for my order, but there was a really friendly waitress that chatted up NFL football with me while I waited so it wasn't so bad. The total came to around $28. The pizza easily weighed three to four pounds as it was over-packed with toppings. It definitely seemed worth the money. Food for three days and some light bicep workouts. Everything tasted okay. Nothing fancy. The pizza was a little on the bland side. I might go back one day since it's so close to my house, but I wouldn't jump in front of a car to make it happen. read more

This was our first time. There are only two reasons I'm not giving it five stars. 1. The red pizza sauce didn't have much flavor and tasted like something out of a can. 2. I wish I had amazing things to say about this place since everyone who seems to have heard of it says "Oh it's been around forever, it's an institution!" For being an institution I would have thought the food would be way better especially for the price. We ordered a takeout pizza and there is nothing special about it and in fact is very mediocre. As the yelp two star rating states "Meh, I've experienced better." in this case I have. I could have ordered a comparable pizza from Papa John's or Dominos and enjoyed it for half the price. I think they have given up on the food. Meager menu selection. All cooked by Chef Mic, just frozen heat and serve faire. The burgers were burnt. Locals flood the place because they can sit and watch football all day. After six beers I'm sure the food is better. The crust was definitely pre-made and not hand thrown - and tasted like cardboard - not eatable- we've had much better at pizza chains. I live nearby so here's my Edgewater Inn strategy: Walk over (in warm weather) Order pizza for take away Sit on one of the old stools at the bar and enjoy a couple cold beers (served in heavy glass schooners) or better yet (only in the hot summertime) get a couple Moscow Mules! (served in real Copper Mugs) Have a chat with the others at the bar- You never know who you will meet. Admire the worm bar surface where each drink has been served for maybe 50 or more years. Get pizza wrapped in foil to stay hot. Walk home happily Enjoy some of the most unique pizza you will ever eat! The crust is not NY Style. It is thin- but not a genuine NY. Not Deep Dish by far- but it is -- simply Edgewater Inn Style. Fresh meats, veggies and a good amount of cheese. The Edgewater Inn Pizza's tomato sauce is also unique-- hard to describe. I heart this place! This hidden gem serves great pizza in a fabulous dive bar setting. The walls are decked out in local memorabilia in this neighborhood hot spot. The pizza crust is thick, but the perfect consistency. They have lots of signature pizzas to fit every persons palette, or if you want to be creative, you can build your own. They do not skimp on the toppings! Their marinara sauce is a little sweet. And on some of their pizzas, they squirt a little on top for some added color. The first pizza we got was squirted and I thought it was ketchup because of the consistency! I assure you, it is not ketchup... But I must admit it freaked me out a little initially. Be sure to order an extra large domestic cheap beer. They serve them in these huge glasses that closely resemble a fish bowl. My skinny arms had trouble picking it up! So perhaps you'll want to ask for a straw. ;) Definitely worth a visit! read more

I shoulda done this a while back shortly after I came, but I'm barely getting into the "reviews thing", so now I'm finally here to rant. First off, I used to LOVE Edgewater Inn. When I lived in Denver a couple years back, this was the spot to go. It was soooo delicious. I drove the 20-25 mins to just pick it up or to dine in. It's worth it when the pizza is THAT good. Now? It freakin' SUCKS. The waitress wasn't even friendly AT ALL. The only time she smiled is when she gave us the check. The pizza? At 1 point, I thought "is this the same place, what happened to the pizza!?" It used to be sooooo good...now it's just...mediocre. My parents, who used to eat these used-to-be pizza goods were wondering, "what happened to the chefs? This shit sucks." Excuse their language, but I pretty much said the same. My regret? Is not complaining afterwards. I'm a girl that wants what she paid for & I regret not making a complaint. This place has been serving pizzas and other since I was in high school over 50 years. I have ordered and eaten their food that is still the same today as it was back in the day. The schooners of red beer are always great with any item on the menu. The Edgewater Inn is still owner by the same family since the late 1940's. When I moved to Edgewater 4 years ago, this was the first and only Edgewater business that I heard about from friends and family. It's an entrenched landmark in the Denver area and probably the one reason most people I meet know that Edgewater isn't a city somewhere on the Western Slope. Needless to say, once my wife and I were settled in our new house, we jogged on over to try it out. After we finished up and left, I got the feeling that I was missing something that everyone else was seeing. See, it's not that the bar isn't fast and fully stocked. And the decor, though dive-ish, is entirely appropriate for the location. It's that everything is just very so-so. At the risk of being greeted some random afternoon by a gent who is intent on busting some kneecaps, I would say that Edgewater Inn's one weakness is actually it's pizza (and other food). I consider myself a bit of a pizza nut, though perhaps my tendencies run counter to the mainstream, and I found Edgewater Inn's lacking. I haven't been able to understand why it's so revered for it's pies. The crust consistency was decent and the sauce more than tolerable, but the toppings were awful. The cheese has always tasted off to me dough is a bit soft for the crunchy bottom. Other menu options are fine for general fare (well, perhaps the spicy ravioli is a bit underwelming, especially at nearly $1 per ravioli), but nothing stands out. The schooners are a nice, unique touch. 22 oz. (I believe) of beer in a glass heavy enough to be used as a medieval mace. The liquor selection, though not broad, covers all the bases. Drink prices are spot-on for what I'd expect from a place like this too. Service has been touch and go. It seems like they're understaffed sometimes, resulting in long waits, but the servers are always very nice. Overall (as you can see) I'd give it a 3. When other places are crowded or just to far away to bother with, I'd head here. Otherwise, I can usually find a reason not to go. read more

After experiencing New York pizza, I didn't expect to be the least bit impressed by the pizza at Edgewater Inn. I was pleasantly surprised. I can't comment on aspects such as service since I didn't go to the restaurant itself (my mom brought some home with her from work -- she did mention that the pizza took a long time to come out), but the pizza itself was quite tasty. This pizza has a relatively thick crust, unlike the pizzas you get in New York. While I don't think this was the best aspect of the pizza, it certainly wasn't bad. The pizza didn't have a lot of sauce on it, so the toppings were what made it really tasty. The sausage tasted fresh and especially good, as if they sliced up an actual sausage and used it as a topping -- what a concept! I like the atmosphere here, it's blue collar and has a good "outdoor" seating area for big groups. The beers come in big schooner glasses, can't beat that! The pizza is...... good. I have heard that it's the best pizza in Denver, of which I would not agree. I'm from Chicago, what can I say, I have high standards. The meat pizza is kinda gross with the meat selections they choose and the veggie style is kinda bland. The barbecue chicken pizza and the buffalo chicken pizza are where it's at. The pieces of chicken could be a bit smaller, but overall I've found that those two pizzas are the only two worth trying. They're not open on Monday's and there is a big parking lot across the street for additional parking. They've got a good reputation so be prepared to wait on the weekends. This place has a reputation for good pizza so I figured it was worth a shot. Arrived on a Thursday afternoon around 5:30 to a mostly full bar and restaurant. Ordered one of their specialty pizzas and began the wait. 45 minutes or so later the waitress comes by to tell us they made the wrong pizza. They did give us the mistake to munch in while we wait. Our order finally arrives another 25 minutes later as we are about ready to leave. Was the pizza worth the wait? Not in my opinion. Pizza was mushy and most of toppings were right out of a can. It you like NY style then you don't want pizza from here. To their credit they didn't charge us for any pizza and gave us the mistake to boot. Not sure if that makes up for the brick in my stomach. Edgewater Inn became a favorite of mine as I grew up. I used to not eat anything spicy, and over the years my palate has turned to craving it. Can't go wrong with the Howdy Special! The sausage here is definitely a highlight, however, I'm not much of a red sauce fan and I like theirs. I must admit I only ever get the salad (which is extremely delicious) and the Howdy Special, but when you find something that is that delectable why change? Also the schooners of beer are nothing to complain about, although I do dislike the fact that they used to use something called carbutrol (sp?) as the mix-in to make the red beers and they now use what seems to be just regular tomato juice. We actually had to find a friend in the restaurant biz to order us some to replicate the red beers at home, so it does sadden me that their red beer is just like everyone else's now. Just a tip for all of those that hate the wait here - Call ahead and put in your order if you are on a time budget. This isn't a lunch spot to pop in for a quick meal. We always will call and place our order 15 mins prior to getting there and then dined in and they've never had a problem doing so. Pizza made from scratch takes time! read more

My wife and I went here on Saturday afternoon for the first time. Do not see the big deal in this place. Ordered the sweetness pizza and it was very average. Had a better meat lovers pizza at Pizza Hut. Asked for no olives and substituted them for mushrooms and got charged an extra $2.75 for that. Waiter said oh I guess I should have told you about that. We did not find it to be a very friendly place and I know we do not live in Edgewater but we live in Arvada. Now we can say we have been here, but once was enough. read more

Not impressed. We just moved to the neighborhood and always see it packed when we walk our dog. I wouldn't go again unless I had nowhere else to eat and no food at home. The service was friendly but felt somewhat disengaged. Just doing their job. The food was bland and did not live up to what we paid for a meal for two ($45). This seems like a good neighborhood watering hole with a restaurant added on. I've also seen many "Hiring now" signs, that may be a symptom of what we experienced. read more

Divey bar, hard pizza, soft beer. I love local dives and this is a total dive. The guy sitting next to me at the bar ate half a pizza. He boxed up the other half to take home and other random guy says, shouldn't you go home and take that pizza to your wife? Without taking his eyes off the tv, between sips of beer, he says, "nope, she'll be okay"; takes another 20 to polish off the schooner and leaves. Grizzled old guy, thanks for the ha ha. The crusty crust causes my gums to molt. Now I either have peridontal disease or this is some aggressive crust. Considering I have only had one cavity in my life, I'm guessing it's the crust. The Edgewater Inn... Don't waste your time or money. My husband and I thought we would check out this local eatery for date night, we had heard pretty good things about it and most of the reviews were good. My husband ordered a simple 9" thin crust pizza with onion, tomato and pepperoni. I ordered the fettuccine with tomato cream and meatball pasta. Upon waiting for our order, 20 + minutes, I glanced over at the pictures on the wall and notice a vast amount of fingerprints and what appeared to be a child's booger, at this point I was a little afraid. When our food arrived my pasta was complete mush, needless to say I sent it back and proceed to have a piece of my husbands pizza. The pizza was okay at best secondary to the acidic sauce. When the second plate of pasta arrived the noodles were still mush, the meatballs were cold almost frozen in the center and the sauce, well it was interesting to say the least. So I sent it back again. The waitress was okay and said she would let management know however the manager didn't even bother to approach the table and just removed the item from the bill. The booth we sat in was horrible and murdered my husbands back within minutes. The bathrooms were dirty and run down. If your looking for a night out don't bother with this place! I've heard about it for years. I never made it there. We finally decided to take the plunge. Honestly, it wasn't good enough to make me want to come back. I'm glad I came and tried it, but I honestly think there are many places that have better pizza. It wasn't busy when we went there. We promptly got our schooners of beer. Now, I love me some schooners of beer. When we found out that's what they served, I was pumped. Unfortunately, that was the best part of the experience. We ordered our pizza, expecting it to take 20-30 minutes like it does at most places. We waited over 45 minutes for it to arrive. At one point, I honestly did not think our server had remembered to put the order in. After about 40 minutes, she came to let us know that it was coming, which I appreciated, but it took a REALLY long time (especially considering the fact that they were NOT busy at all). When it did arrive, it was piping hot out of the oven. We got like 4 toppings, two of them being meatball and sausage. I LOVED that they used sliced link sausage on the pizza instead of crumbled, but that was the biggest positive about the pizza. The meatballs were flavorless, and it was pretty light on the sauce. The crust was fairly good, but overall, the pizza was overwhelmingly average. There was just no "wow" factor. Like I said, I'm glad I came to try it. It has a lot of history, and the atmosphere is really cool. However, the pizza was just not good enough to hook me in for another visit. read more

We used to be regulars here as my mom & her husband worked here for years - years ago. We tried pizza, a calzone, wedding soup, fettucine and meatballs and onion rings. The onion rings were fantastic as was the fettucine and marinara sauce. The pizza was not as good as I had remembered, but not bad. The calzone (veggie with sausage) was amazing. The wedding soup and their house salads were good. Our waitress Kaylee was attentive and a real sweetheart. The ambiance of the restaurant was pretty much like I remembered it, only updated. And thankfully you cannot smoke inside anymore - that is a HUGE improvement. Our booth was in the back (Southeast corner) and the bench against the exterior wall sloped down so it felt awkward. The #1 reason I order takeout? Cause there is NO FOOD in the house. So when I get home and my salad has no dressing I am sad, mad, and annoyed. I completely understand Covid has effected many business although it is ridiculous when you go to a pizza joint and they charge you extra for Parmesan and red pepper flakes.
