The proprietress helped us to complimentary samples of cheeses to try - and helped us narrow down our choices: a lusciously creamy and mild bleu (Cambozola Black), an equally creamy and luscious triple cream (Trillium), and a snappy slightly sweet aged Gouda (Beemster XO). Plus they had a number of interesting salumi so I grabbed a wild boar salami and a truffled salami. Really cool place, reminded me of a few cheese shops I went to in Italy. Edgewood Cheese was a bonus place for RI Food Fights sandwich month. I got to sample 3 cheeses served with some bread, fig jam and pickles. All the cheeses were unique, fresh and my favorite was the Drunken Goat. I am giving this store 3 stars only because of the service. The gentleman that owns the store was attentive to the customers, but treated the cashier poorly. My friend and I walked away feeling very uncomfortable for the cashier that was working there. The food was delicious, but the owner should either have conversations with his employees in private or just all together be kinder to the other workers there. read more

Tried three of their cheeseboard selections with a wine (and cheese) loving group (check out my pics). The cheeseboards -- The Works - come with authentic deli meats as well. Absolutely worth it. This is an under-promoted shop for real turophiles and just people who enjoy good cheese, if you ask me. With the shop being a BYOB, what reason can you have not to visit? They are open on Sundays, too. The only part that can be improved is the shading on the windows. I can imagine how warm it gets in there, plus the sun shining on everything on the table (including the guests) in warmer weather. read more

What an unexpected find in the Edgewood area. We did a Yelp! search to find a place to grab some lunch and this place got some great reviews so we stopped in to check it out. We ordered two sandwiches, a cheese and meat board, and washed them down with some Yacht Club sodas. Everything we tried was delicious and the young man working the counter was very helpful with making suggestions and recommendations. The paninis are named after the owners and their children (super cute) and come with a bag of chips and some mini pickles (cornichons) and are totally delicious as were the cheese and meat options we selected for our cheese board. I love that this place is BYOB and wish we had been more prepared today to take advantage of this option. Prices are really reasonable and we left there full and happy. They can also help you build a custom gift basket - which would make a lovely gift for someone. For $40 they also offer a "Cheese 101" class where they talk all about cheese and provide samples too. The one area that could use some thought is the overall layout of the shop. The crackers, jams, drinks and other retail product tucked behind the wall should be front and center so you know you can pair them with the star of show - the brilliant cheese case. There's only 3 tables but there's lots more room for seating - perhaps a cozy nook or some dramatic high back chairs and an electric fireplace would add some ambiance and help get more foot traffic in and more seats in the chairs. read more

I wanted all the meats so I ordered another board of 4 meats (they have a selection of 8 meats)...that way, I didn't have to pick and choose & sampled them all. Wow! I had a great experience going there not only to enjoy some familiar cheeses but to also learn about and even taste a few choices I had never sampled before. I got a Large Cheese Board and was able to select from a very nice board of both cheeses and some meats. And of course, some jam, gherkins and walnuts were included which gave it all a great finesse. The only negative was that I had to take my board and eat it at home since they no longer do sit down options, which is a shame, as I (and others) would probably go much more often to sample other selections than have to take it back home and eat it there. Therefore, I hope they remove the "eatery" designation from their title. read more

We had a coupon for the shop and decided to go for lunch and grab some sandwiches. What a disappointment. Mike had a turkey sandwich that had a few slices of deli turkey in it. It didn't taste bad but it's pretty much something that you could make at home for a lot less money. I had a roast beef sandwich and again it was deli roast beef. It was actually kind of a funny color but it didn't taste bad. It had fig jam and Brie cheese on it which was nice. Unfortunately I couldn't taste the roast beef I could only taste the brie and there were holes in the bread because it was so thin so the fig jam was seeping out. It was rather messy to eat in the car. I just feel like every time I go in there everything looks so good and yet the prices are very high and the quality of the prepared foods is not as good as I would expect it to be. Say cheese! I popped in this new eatery with my friend for lunch today. While we waited to place our order at the counter, we nibbled on some free samples of delicious cheeses. We ordered the The Adrienne ($8 Roast Beef and Brie with Fig Jam) and The Ari ($8 Black Forest Ham and Sharp Cheddar with Horseradish Mustard) both served as a grilled pannini and cut in half. Of course, we each enjoyed a half of each sandwich and both were delicious! Large size, filling, fresh and tasty. My only complaint? Chips on the side & pickles. I'm trying to avoid those pesky potatoes; I wish there was an option to order a different side. Loved the mini pickles though! It's a VERY small eatery with LOTS of cheese. Such a great find! If you love cheese, relaxing, eating small bites, and great service, I highly recommend. My boyfriend and I did the full $25 board, it's honestly such a great deal for the amount of food. They don't rush you at all and refill your bread basket as many times as needed! Great that it's also BYOB, just a small corking/glass fee. I loved that there was a large list of cheeses to choose from and each cheese was explained to us. I usually am not a fan of meat but I actually liked all the meats we got on our board! Very flavorful and I tried smoked duck for my first time- yum :) definitely planning on coming back here. Was excited to try this spot with all the positive reviews, but instead I am filled with disappointment and anger. Upon entering the establishment with 5 other friends, we were told by the owner (Casey) that only 8 people were allowed in the store. Fully understand, even though we were not a group of 8, only 3 of us stayed in. Another group of customers entered next behind us and exceeded the store limit but nothing was said to them. The service from this place was one of the worst I have experienced in my entire life. Every question about an item was met with rudeness, backtalk and impatience by the owner. It was our first time here and we genuinely wanted to know what was the best, but instead we were treated horribly and threatened to be skipped to help other customers in the store despite just being there for a minute. None of my group retaliated with any rudeness as we were more shocked that we were being treated this way. When one member of our group left the place upset at the treatment, the owner proceeded to say that "I guess she didn't like being talked to that way." The man truly knew how rude he was in front of us. None of the other Caucasian customers were being treated the same way so we could only deduce that the man was incredibly racist towards Asian Americans. We decided to take the high road and leave after our transaction. The food was nothing to write home about. I have probably gotten better quality meat and cheese from the supermarket. Not to mention our experience left such a bad taste in our mouth. If you truly want cheese, I highly recommend you stay away from this place. Please check out Sweet and Salty Farm at the Farmer's Market instead as their cheese quality was amazing and their owner was incredibly nice and hospitable. I had wanted to try this place for sometime, but the hours are it conducive for people that work 8-5... Anyway, I popped in to check it out, and the woman behind the counter was super nice and generous. While I was reviewing the menu, she suggested I sample some of the cheeses that she had on display. They were delicious, as were the accompaniments. I ordered the Ari sandwich and told the woman that I literally just got home from the hospital with our newborn, and that I was going to run to CVS while the sandwich was being made. When I returned, in addition to the delicious sandwich, she had prepared a to-go container of several different cheeses to sample (smoked mozzarella, roasted garlic cheese curds, and brie), along with herb mustard and strawberry jam with bread. I've visited this shop numerous times and the more I go, the more I find things that I want to buy and eat. I find myself nearly daydreaming of going back after just getting home. The cheese selection is great. I love, LOVE, their Pate selection. Especially the Black Pepper Pate, it's not a mousse texture but more of a chunky style, perfect with crackers. Went in a few weeks back on a Saturday morning to check out this new business. It was so nice inside, a few tables/chairs to eat in, and great cheeses to purchase. Wonderful selection of local, domestic, and European cheeses. Such a great addition to this area. Wonderful owner - she's so helpful and a delight to chat with. Have since been back for lunch with a friend. We had the most amazing large cheese board. We picked a couple of items and then let the owner make selections that would go nicely with those flavors. First of all, it was so much food, that I'll certainly pick this up again to entertain at home. Secondly, it was AMAZING. The bread was delicious, the assortment of cheeses and meats was perfect, and the side condiments with it were out of this world. That mustard and fig jam they have are some of the best I've ever had. Try the espresso rubbed cheese, it's amazing. There are so many different cheeses to choose from! I got a groupon for a $20 value so I decided to go in one saturday afternoon. Its towards the end of broad street on the cranston side and while there isn't a huge parking area, there is plenty of places to park nearby. The guy who owns it is extremely kind and very helpful! I got the 5 cheese cheeseboard with aged goat salami and then went home with two cheeses that I could eat with crackers coming to about $30 before the groupon. It was pretty relaxing as I enjoyed my cheeseboard with the great sounds of jazz the owner put on after I chose my cheeses. The cheese was pretty good, but I think I only really liked one or two of the cheeses on the board because there was a list of cheese you could choose and none of them besides one or two were the ones I wanted to try, thankfully I was able to try one of the cheeses I bought before I bought it. I had totally forgot it was BYOB so next time I come, I will be more prepared for sure! read more

This is such a special place - I found it through groupon and went on a whim, and was so glad I did. The owner is incredibly helpful and knowledgable about all things cheese, and let us sample a few kinds before finding what we wanted. He was really patient answering my questions and offered great tips on how to round out our flavors with what we were getting. I just made myself a small board at home with the three cheeses I picked up and was SO happy with the choices! I cannot recommend the caramelized onion cheddar enough -- it's INCREDIBLE! The cheese is definitely the star here. Because of the great reviews, I decided to give this place visit for lunch. I ordered the Ari. The sandwich was great - the ham and mustard gave the right amount of kick in the flavor and the warm cheese dripped out onto the plate giving me something to scoop up with the chips. The owner was friendly and seemed really excited about his store. There are 4 tables in house that are casual and comfortable. They also have Yacht Club soda - I love when local businesses support other local businesses. Right now I think this place is set up more for the cheese plates or picking up cheese to go. This is a new business, so there is room to grow, but I think this is a great addition to the area. I do have a few suggestions because I think that it will be much easier to survive if the place was a little more versatile: invest in real plates for sandwiches, think about expanding the side selections (salad, fruit), work on the quality of the pickles, and keep the cheese the star. read more

Very happy with our first experience at ECS. Awesome choices for cheeses you can't find anywhere else. The featured cheese (and my guess is they feature different cheeses as they become available) was a smoked Gouda called Beemster XO. Creamy tidbit of deliciousness. And I don't like Gouda!! Also bought a mesquite smoked cheddar. Incredible taste. Close your eyes and this cheese transports you to another time, next to a smokehouse. Paired great with KJ Chardonnay and smoked almonds.
