I adore sushi. I've eaten everywhere in town. My issue with this place is there crab salad in the rolls it's total mush. It's like it's been over mixed to death and it's more like a paste. It's not pleasant to bite into. It was better some years ago, but it's taken a dive over the last several years. That being said, sometimes I've gotten lucky, but I've been disappointed too often to want to go back. When I've ordered their 3 item lunch, the amount of fish on the nigiri was humorously minuscule. Decent ramen and udon. But if you're going for sushi, maybe just stick to sashimi and rice. read more

We are regulars and my husband and I come in pretty often. This time we got the Alaska Roll and the Cathedral roll. Both were very good. The service is always super good here. I ordered the Thai tea and the shrimp tempura roll. The Thai tea tasted HORRIBLE...I can't even describe the taste because it's like nothing I've ever tried. The shrimp tempura roll was mediocre and bland...didn't think it was possible to mess that up. As I was eating one of the rolls, I felt something odd. All the good reviews on here of this place are from 2+ years ago. The smell when you first walk in is disgusting and completely made me lose my appetite. But everyone was hungry so we stuck it out.. worst decision ever.. The menu pictures didnt match the description of the rolls as numbered. The menu had hadwritten price changes after being scratched off and taped over. There was a vase full of dead flowers near the sushi chef area.. who knows how long that had been there.. dirty, dusty light bulbs handing over the sushi bar..a lot of indications that no one cares about the cleanliness or overall look of the restaurant and that was a true reflection of the quality of food as well. Prices howere were way too high for quality of restaurant and food. It's a hard skip for anyone insterested in good sushi. Honestly, and this will sound mean spirited, but I should've turned around once I opened the door. There was a fishy, septic smell from the inside that was a massive red flag. You should never have a fishy smell in a sushi restaurant, paradoxical as that sounds. Obviously, you should never have a septic smell either. But I guess my inner Bourdain got the better of me. I was also unnaturally hungry, so in I went. Had the bento box for lunch. The salad was ok with decent greens but there was way too much dressing. The miso was inoffensively bland and watery. The teriyaki chicken wasn't too bad with small bite sized bits and a glaze that was slathered on generously. As the equivalent of Japanese diner food it was average but eminently edible. The tempura portion was pretty generous but the pieces were in a heavy, doughy batter that had a greasy aftertaste. The rice wasn't bad but probably frozen. This part of the box was a couple levels below a solid fast casual place like Sansai or Bristol Farms and Whole Foods. The last part of the box was eight rolls of spicy salmon. I will say that the cut of the roll was generous, so there's that. But I'll also say that it was easily the worst sushi I've ever had. I really, REALLY try and avoid hyperbole when I review a place. I love using descriptive language but I try and steer clear of absolutes, snap judgements, and rash reactions. But that spicy salmon was absolutely the worst sushi I've ever had. In 47 years of eating and enjoying all sorts of sushi, from Sansai to Nobu to omakase joints up and down California and the Pacific Northwest, to every restaurant on Sawtelle Boulevard, and multiple Little Tokyos, I have never had sushi that made me actively wretch and gag. I couldn't believe how rank, unappetizing, and offensively gelatinous these pieces were. I took one bite of the first one and it was all I could do to not spit it out or spitball it back into my napkin. Needless to say, I didn't touch the other seven pieces. I had the order boxed up because I don't believe in wasting food. But I took the box and left it by a homeless camp along 111. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing on the wrong day. There were four other tables being occupied by presumably happy diners and a few people were picking up online orders, but my experience was that Edoko is largely mediocre. I learned in LA to never write off strip mall sushi places because those are often little culinary miracles that easily outclass the cuisine at upscale sushi places like Sugarfish and Nobu. But Edoko definitely isn't a miracle, and it's not very culinary either. Friendly service, and the interior is kind of clubby and intimate. But I wouldn't go back for anything other than a beer. read more

Ok sushi but they put too much rice in their rolls. Beef was hard to chew and sushi tasted good!! Ordered more than $100 sushi and noodle dish for pickup and they were very stingy on soy sauce and wasabi sachets. We had even requested online and in person during pickup to have extra sachets but they gave 1 small one per dish. read more

Trust your gut. When you think you should... just leave. We were so desperately hungry we just ordered. Many rolls on the menu are California rolls inside. This immediately indicates a bargain strip mall sushi joint. (Except the prices are not a bargain!) When the food came... The Spider roll rice portion was way too thick...twice as thick as the contents. The Rainbow Roll was skimpy and bland. The Yellowtail Collar was a good portion but flavorless. The freshwater eel lacked flavor, too. I was feeling overful about 5 bites into the meal, which means something was not right. I went to the bathroom and saw all the filth on the bathroom door and the door to the kitchen. This place hasn't been washed (or painted) in years! Maybe that's why the lights are dim? The bathroom was dirty like a boys' dorm dirty. Drips of god knows what on the doors on the sink. Just save yourself a trip and go elsewhere...even if you're starving. We both spent the rest of the night in bed. It's not how this night was supposed to go! read more

Had a good experience here. Ordered the seaweed salad, spicy tuna hand roll, cathedral special, sexy roll, gyoza, unagi and miso soup. All were as expected, nothing more, nothing less. The standpoint was the sexy roll which I devoured before taking a pic. I also love cucumber wrap rolls and this one works. Just say no. Dragon rolls only have unagi on top of 2 of 6 pieces. Sorry, not a dragon rolls. Some sort of mystery white fish on top of other pieces. Also, sushi rolls cut way to thick.
