This is a double update. I do believe YELP does get you some action. So I guess Ed saw the original review and finally contacted me. Went over the details of what I expected. He stripped the sod, made some minor grading adjustments and checked the sprinklers. New sod laid down and and all looked good. Still have what looks like multiple types of grass, none of which was in the lawn before the start of the project. Original lawn grass was all Bermuda. Update June 1st 2026. So it's about a year and a half since the redo and things are not looking that great. Despite doing some extra hand watering, spreading some Scotts Lawn fertilizer a few times the lawn is fading away. In some places the grass is completely gone from the base dirt it was part of. The bare spots seen in the pics are dried out, almost like cement, despite plenty of automatic watering and additional hand watering. In 50 years I've done this lawn three times myself. I recently purchased a home in Glendale, in early January. The previous owners had moved out of state in September 2024, leaving the property vacant and in the care of the realtor for months. After the purchase went through, I had some work done on the home for a few months, and finally moved in in mid-March. I noticed that the landscaping was still being maintained, it was a mystery by who, considering I had not hired anyone. Once I finally moved in, I saw the landscapers on my Ring doorbell. The next week, I took the day off of work, and asked them- who's been paying you? The workers said they asked the owner, Ed, who said "Don't worry about it." I got the business phone number from the side of the truck, and left a message. The workers left without doing any work. Almost 24 hours later, Ed finally called me back, saying I now owed him two months worth of landscaping (he had mailed me bills, and now expected to be paid). I had never talked to him before, agreed to work being done, etc. Considering this to be super shady business practices, I decided not to hire him and will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

We had a wooden deck but it was so worn down we stopped using it. Ed was working on another home down street when I became aquatinted with him. He came by and gave us a quote and some conceptual designs. He was easy to work with and extremely professional. In the process we got our front porch redone to match the back. We solicited five bids for a backyard renovation that included, among many things, redoing a pool and deck, constructing a patio shade structure and shoring up a hill at the back of our property. Ed's estimate was not the lowest, but we were impressed with his responsiveness and willingness to talk things through. Ultimately, we went with him and we're glad we did. We had plans drawn up by a landscape architect and, working with those plans, Ed developed approaches and solutions that were sensible and, in some cases, even better than those proposed by the architect. Once Ed and his crew started, he was at the house every day to keep us apprised and oversee what was going on. The project was completed within about six weeks, which we didn't expect (we thought it would take much longer). We did suffer from a bit of "scope creep" (actually, a lot of scope creep) that eventually encompassed items, including the front yard, we didn't anticipate undertaking, but we're glad we did. If there is one thing to watch out for here: Ed is very gungho and will make suggestions, but make sure he doesn't start on them until he absolutely has your permission. In addition to doing such a nice job, Ed has been tremendous with the follow-up, continuing to check in to make sure everything is working out. We were so pleased with his work that we recently hired him for more - and this time we (and he) pretty much stuck to our budget. read more

Ed and his crew just completed a large landscaping project at our home in La Crescenta. The project transformed nearly every square foot of exterior space on our property. Included in the project were hard and softscape demolition, grading, decorative concrete forming, pouring and finishing, fence and gate post excavation and setting, pergola post and footing construction, stucco covered bench construction and finishing, stone pathway creation, recessed Bocce Court creation, edging, planting, softscaping, lighting, and irrigation. Completely satisfied. They came the day after I called & gave a good and fair estimate for updating my irrigation system. The following day they showed up and worked hard the entire day, finishing the job. They did exactly what I asked for and then came back to make a few minor adjustments after a few days. I've never written a five star review before, but the service I received from Ed's Landscaping was exceptional. Because I travel a great deal for business, I don't have the time for late arrivals or work having to be done again. The plumber who modified and replaced my entire irrigation system was professional, courteous, prompt and thorough. The work was all done in a day (for a big yard, I expected longer). He returned (no charge) to check on the system and provided a few tweaks. It has, in the two months since, worked perfectly. The water hitting structures has been completely redirected, and my water use is now less than a third of what it once was. Furthermore, the total price was less than what his competitors bid. My first nightmare contractor. He built a retaining wall for me. The wall looks OK, but he skirted paying the City its $44 dollar contractor's fee and did not build it to California or City code - so I have to add concrete to fix it.. He ordered too much 50-50 mix and backfilled behind the wall with it an then hid it under a layer of dirt. I asked him not to dump his mix first on the brick part of the driveway - you can guess where he dumped it - power washing hasn't been able to get off the discoloration. His trucks leaked oil on the same driveway - at leas that will fade. He had extra concrete mix which he left on a walkway - it solidified in the first rain and ruined that area. He came unprepared and was forever borrowing wood and tools. When the job was done, he requested to leave extra concrete blocks, cement mixes and other stuff blocking my driveway for two weeks until his next job and got surly when I of course said "no". read more
