Prime rib salad
Emily A.

Came in for lunch, there wasn't too many people. Ordered the prime rib salad with the Italian vinaigrette, and the fried zucchini appetizer. The salad was amazing, I loved the dressing which apparently they make in house. The food took a long time to come out for there being not many people there and it being just a salad, but it was worth it and I'd go back.

We came by here before a concert at the Pavilion. It seems like the go-to place for a pre-game before the concert. It's open seating, and there were seats available so I am glad we didn't have to wait. It definitely gave off a mom-and-pop vibe. Everyone there seemed like they were either regulars or concert-goers. Our server was pretty attentive even when it was a busy night. The drinks were good, but needed an extra kick. I ordered margaritas and it was refreshing, but sweet. For food, we ordered the sampler, calamari and two different pastas: Shrimp and Chicken Diavlo and pescatore to share. Definitely too much food for us, but it was satisfying. The food did the job. The Pescatore was pretty delicious. Everything else was good.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Good food, busy establishment with a really good server, named Mo.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] we had a little bit of everything, the margarita pizza, the large garden salad along with some calamari. The Cadillac margaritas were delicious

margherita pizza

Whatever you do, do not order the margherita pizza. It was not good. I expected more from this place. $30 for a large non margherita pizza is disappointing. Should've gone somewhere else.

fettuccini con pollo

My son and I decided to try dinner since we haven't been here since before the pandemic. It was so nice to be back. The front bar area was full of fun locals. We sat in the back room where it is quieter. We were greeted promptly on arrival and advised to grab a seat. Within a few minutes of sitting, our server was there. He was friendly and attentive all evening. The free foccacia was warm and delicious. I dipped it in the marinera while my son used the butter. It was so good we asked for seconds. My son had the fettuccini con pollo. He said it was excellent with a rich and creamy sauce. I had the penne romano. The cayenne sauce had a kick without being too spicy. The chicken was tender and the sun dried tomatoes gave it a nice tart contrast. When our pastas came out, we were reminded how huge the portions were. But it was so good, we finished everything! Exellent service. Amazing food. Generous portions. And a friendly atmosphere. You really can't ask for more.

Hot Pastrami [$11.95, 2.5 stars]

A neigborhoody feel filled with locals, medium-range sports pub, and a little divey mixed in. It has many of your standard drafts, and a decent bar-filled menu of mostly fried items, along with a variety of pastas and pizzas. I went with the Hot Pastrami [$11.95, 2.5 stars] -- Grilled pastrami, melted swiss cheese and a dijon mustard on grilled rye bread. Greasy, and not very tender. A large round of krinkled-cut frozen fries...could have done without. Service was nice, place felt clean -- bumped up to an average rating.

Happy hour! 3pm to 6pm
Kathleen C.

We stopped in just before going to a concert up the road. The happy hour had great food including the potatoes skins, sliders and chicken tenders. We ordered too much. The staff was quick to refill drinks or ask if we needed anything. You could witness workers dashing around the busy Friday crowd, they were pleasant to talk to- those behind the bar allowed us to guess their names and played along as well. We were able to watch some of the giants game in the big screen at the bar and most of the seating directly behind it could watch as well. The bathrooms were clean, food tasted great and overall the experience was a good one.

Fantastic drink. My friend tasted mine and ordered the same. The selection is the draw here. Whiskey lines the entire back wall, the rarer bottles sit behind wire-mesh locked cabinets, and there is a deep bench of tequila, beer on tap, and wine to round things out. One look at the shelves tells you they have the base for any drink you want. We split the Margherita flatbread, pesto, fresh mozzarella, and blistered cherry tomatoes, and it hit the spot as a drinking snack. The menu goes deeper than expected for a bar, with sliders, naan tacos, and charcuterie if you show up hungry. Service was good considering the staff-to-crowd ratio. Sevan stayed attentive the whole time and clearly knows his stuff. The vibe is chill and conversation-friendly, not too loud for the size of the room, with a bank of TVs toward the back if you want to catch a game. Logistics are easy. The bar sits a short walk from Pleasant Hill BART and parking in the area was no trouble. I've been a few times before and this visit confirmed why I keep coming back. For a high quality cocktail in the East Bay, this is the spot.

For beverage choices, H&S gets 5 stars. For food, one star. I blame ownership for being cheap and not wanting to pay for enough servers. Lastly - DON'T ORDER THE KETTLE CHIPS! They used to make their own, but now they charge $4 for a bag of kettle brand chips tossed on a plate. Eew.
