Service makes all the difference in a dining experience. On our most recent visit, our server Chelsea made us feel welcome and at home, unlike our previous visit here. Her warm and sincere personality really shone. Chelsea was quick to service our breakfast and fill our coffee cups. Our breakfasts of chicken apple sausage and eggs was good. The hash browns could be crispier but the biscuit and gravy was tasty and ample! We look forward to seeing Chelsea again when next in town. read more

I love this place! My mom lives in SoHum and when I come to visit, we always have to have breakfast here. The prices are very reasonable and you can not beat the wonderful service. I got an omelet (build your own) and had it with jack cheese, mushrooms and spinach. It was amazing and they really piled on the spinach. *Ate here again this weekend (8/9/13). We went here for lunch. My husband had a BLT which was fine, I had a tuna melt which was...odd. I've had tuna melts that I didn't like, maybe too greasy or something. But this one was fine except that it didn't have any tuna. The filling was very creamy and had maybe a tablespoon of tuna in the entire sandwich. Paired with frozen french fries, not a very satisfying lunch. The milk shake was good, though. Maybe the breakfasts are better. read more

This was a fun place to stop for breakfast, which they serve all day. The gal behind the counter was friendly and funny, which made it an even nicer experience. The food is pretty much standard diner fare, but that isn't saying it's bad. I had the burger steak and eggs. My wife had an avocado burger. We enjoyed the food and the experience quite a bit. On our drive home from Ferndale, we needed a good-sized lunch to keep us fulfilled for a long drive ahead. The small cafe was pretty full on arrival but we managed to get the last open booth. Our drink orders were taken and delivered pretty quickly. Our food also came out fresh with about a 10 minute wait even though they were busy. My hubby had a chili burger with a side of beer battered onion rings. He said the chili was homemade, a little spicy, and very tasty. The burger itself was a little dry but overall a decent and filling plate. The onion rings were a bit over cooked but hit the spot nonetheless with some ranch dressing. I ordered a BLT on sourdough and a side salad with blue cheese dressing. My sandwhich was very good. The toast was perfect as was the thick bacon. The side salad was a good sized portion and was very fresh. Overall a nice cafe stop in a small town. Someone else did mention the locals being an attraction and, although we did notice a few outside, it did not hinder our meal. read more

First off, great roadside style dinner that reminds me of those early road trips with the parents. Friendly staff, food was quick to come out and the hash browns were perfect. Thanks to Yelp, the girlfriend and I decided to stop here for breakfast on the 2nd day of our Humboldt County vacation. The biscuits and gravy are really good. I also had the chicken fried steak and was very pleased with it. The coffee is pretty standard. The waitress was nice and kept my mug full. We stop at this Cafe every year on our way to Oregon and our way home. The food is great and so is the service. The place is small so you might have to wait, but it is worth it. We got there close to closing (about 20 minutes to 2:00) so we tried to keep what we ordered simple: a spinach salad, a cup of chili and a turkey sandwich for my son. Charming place. I've walked by it a zillion times over the years and admired the sign with the guy flipping pancakes, which shows up in postcards from the 1940's and before (and that's how we know the photo is indeed of Garberville's main street). This morning my sister and her husband and cute younger daughter were in town briefly en route to Yosemite (they take long trips!) and we met for breakfast. I suggested this cafe because it is popular with tourists, and I was curious. So..sister had the vegetarian omelet, which looked yummy. Brother in law had..let me think, something with apple sausages and eggs and hashbrowns. Niece had the waffle with strawberries and whipped cream, which is what I would have had at her age (she's 13). And on the side biscuits and gravy. I had two poached eggs, hashbrowns, and a biscuit without gravy (vegetarian here). And coffee. Ah, the endless coffee poured by the attractive young waitress. Brought me back in time to the days of the endless coffee pot. The place, as others have mentioned, is cow themed. There are cows everywhere, even on the ceiling. For tourists it is cute. And it is cute for locals too, if they are plied with enough coffee. Everyone loved the food. Portions were ample, the poached eggs were perfectly cooked (which shouldn't be difficult but often is), the homemade biscuits are fabulous (even if you just spread them with butter). This place was the bomb-diggaty! Local food, organic ingredients, and what a great staff! Having been on the road for 6 days the kids were pretty much out of control every time you let them out of the car. We got there around 1:30, they closed for open door buisness at 2, with a take home pizza business after that. The ladies there were so nice, our littlest one didn't want to sit still, they were cool with it, let him sit at the counter and just interact with him. so service was a big A+, food was very good too. read more

My family and I were driving through Garberville, and we were all hungry, so we decided to stop somewhere. My granddaughter thought that this would be a great place to stop. We came in, and right away were greeted by a very friendly hostess. She told us to sit where we liked, so we waited for a nice booth by the window. We got the menus from the side of the table, and got to looking. The menu had some very good looking items. The hostess came over and asked us what we liked to drink. We got it right after she left. The waitress came a short while after to make sure we were doing good, and if we were ready to order. When we were ready, she was very patient with my granddaughter, who was struggling to order. We ordered mostly off the sandwich and burger section. They had a very nice selection of food. The specials on the back side of the menu looked delicious!! My granddaughter ordered the chili cup. Very nicely priced, especially after camping in Yosemite National Park, when we didn't eat too much. While waiting for the food, we looked at the pictures on the wall, which kept us entertained. What a cute diner! Once we got our food, we went right to eating. My granddaughter got the Bacon Cheeseburger and chili, my husband got the Big Bird Melt, and I got the Veggie Breakfast Sandwich. My granddaughter says that the burger was out of this world, my husband said he couldn't have made his melt any better, and my sandwich was fresh and very tasty! We loved the food so much, we're sure to come back next time we're in Garberville! My husband owns a restaurant, so you can believe me when I say this is one of the best restaurants we've been to. Everything was on point. When you're in Garberville next time, we all suggest you go to Eel River Cafe. Also, go to the Avenue of Giants in Redwoods National and State Parks! I really love a greasy all American breakfast, and when travelling along the northern coast this is the best place I found for that. Friendly service and a wonderful chicken fried steak and giant pancakes. In general I think garberville is one of my favorite Humboldt towns, for it's mix of extremely friendly townspeople(when you go to one of the two bars in town expect for everyone to ask you your story) and little bits of hippy culture. read more
