Let's just start off by saying... you don't appreciate hot water/running water until you lose it! And that's when you really appreciate companies like Efficient Water Heaters! It all started Thursday evening when we got home with the kids, only to discover that our water heater was LEAKING! There was a small stream flowing through our garage and we were facing the prospect of having to turn off the water in the house to stop the leak. While my wife quickly tried to get the kids showered and ready for bed before we turned off the water, I got online and quickly found Efficient Water Heaters on Yelp. Didn't pay too much attention to the fact it said "responds in 1 hour". I described the situation and hit "Send". Within 1 minute (I am not kidding!) I got a call back from Joseph, who is the owner. He had me snap a couple of photos and text them to him, and he was able to give me a quote within minutes. We ultimately decided to go with Efficient Water Heaters and they came the next day (Joseph himself did the installation) and got it done. Totally trustworthy and went out of his way to make sure I was happy. When there was initially an issue with the heater lighting up, he quickly diagnosed it and immediately went to pick up the parts he needed to get the job done. I'm happy with the service received from Efficient Water Heaters. I contacted them pretty late on a Tuesday night after finding out there was something wrong with my water heater. I wasn't expecting anyone to pick up, but to my surprise, the owner, Joseph answered and assisted me with my inquiry. Joseph was very nice to talk to over the phone and he diagnosed the problem pretty quickly from what I had described to him. He was able to schedule me in for the next day which was a plus because our water heater was leaking. I contacted the previous place who serviced my water heater, but they didn't have any availability until Friday, so it prompted me to go to Yelp to find Efficient Water Heaters. Joseph advised me that a tech would be out between 12pm-2pm and that worked with my schedule, no problem. Eli came out to service my water heater and he came before 12pm since he finished his last job earlier than expected. Someone just pm'ed me that the same thing happened to them that happened to me a year ago. Fairly ambiguous installation terms, and a refusal to follow up when a problem arises. Don't waste your money with that group. Their average rating should be 3 stars at most. I suspect that they ask most customers to give them a 5 star rating in exchange for an "extra year of warranty". Truth is, they will never follow up with once they install their Navien tank and run away. And the owner gets pretty belligérant when ask him to come back and take a look. I'm convinced this guy is buying reviews because my experience with him was pretty bad. To be clear, his quote was the lowest I got and his ratings were great. In all honesty, he's probably a pretty good plumber - but I don't think he understands how to run a business. I think he's a good option if your money is more important than your time. Job was descaling a water heater. Tuesday Night: Got a quote for 100 from yelp, he says he can come in the next day at 10AM Wednesday 9AM: I call him to let him know that I got a quote from him the night before but I'd like to schedule for Friday. I ask him when he would be available and he tells me that anytime is fine as long as I provide a 2 hour window. He tells me to text him the details like my name, the address, time, etc. I send him the info. No response, no confirmation. Wednesday Night: I text again to confirm if we're on for Friday 1-3PM. No response. Thursday Night: I text again to confirm if he's gonna show up for Friday. No response. Friday Morning 8am: He texts me back telling me he'll be here sometime 1-3PM and that in the future I should call him instead because he's not always at the phone. Except he's the one who told me to text him the details??? Whatever, as long as he can get the job done... Friday 2:50PM: I've taken time out of my schedule to be at home since 12:30. 10 minutes before 3PM he calls/texts me letting me know that he's backed up and that he needs to cancel. Annoying, but hey - COVID is a thing and services are backed up all over the place...I get it. He asks me if 8:30AM Saturday is okay and I ask for a later time. He says 10-11AM and I say that should be fine, I'll call you if I need to reschedule. So at this point we have another appointment. Friday 10PM: I realize that I forgot to mention this was a tankless water heater. Oops! But also, isn't this something he should have asked before accepting the job? Anyway - I text to let him know and he tells me $175 (fair - tankless is more work) and that the earliest he can do it is Sunday because he's booked tomorrow and only heard back from me just now...except we already had an appointment set for Saturday at 10-11AM??? At this point I'm sick and tired of being yanked around by this guy and I'll be going with somebody else. I'm leaving 2 stars because he did quote the lowest price. read more

I don't think I've ever said this before, but I wish I could give them 6 stars. When we first called them it was a hugely stormy Monday, and one of our water heaters all of a sudden quit working (of course it was the one supplying water to our bathrooms and laundry room). I just started calling people with good reviews that seemed close to Los Altos, and the answer from the first 3 people I tried was "sure -- we can see you Friday!" Ugh. When I called Efficient, it was a completely different story. The squeezed us in the same day. They were out here in the dark, in the pouring rain (this water heater is accessed from outside the house), brought floodlights, and replaced our old water heater. I am so impressed by their level of customer concern, the professionalism, the fact that they CARED we were without hot water ... they went the extra mile and beyond to help us. And then, it gets BETTER! In the horrible storms we had this week the pilot light went out on the new heater. I had no idea how to fix this, and I called and they were out within hours to just fix it for me. No charge, just to fix it. They are unbelievably great, and take what they do seriously. We had to replace our 15 year old water heater, and after calling a few folks, we decided to go ahead with Joseph, the owner at Efficient Water Heaters. The reasons were: 1. Joseph was very straight-forward over phone and after sending him a few pictures of the existing unit, he was able to provide a pretty realistic estimate 2. The company is licensed, insured and bonded -- something that many other companies aren't 3. Joseph was also in a position to do the job the very next day. Joseph arrived on time, and did his best to explain the problem in "layman terms". He determined that a mixing valve in the current heater was not required with the new unit which saved $500! His work was very clean and meticulous. Where possible, he used new pipes / valves, re-did the insulation which many folks typically ignore, and also modified the plumbing to meet existing building codes. Through the process, he was patient to answer my many random plumbing-related questions. All-in-all, Joseph is a very knowledgeable and had the new unit up-and-running in short order. When our 20yr-old water heater started leaking water into the garage, we went out to Yelp and asked around for a few quotes. Efficient Water Heaters responded within 15 minutes (late on a Thursday evening) and we quickly scheduled for a convenient time on Friday. They were very flexible in setting up the appointment. Shortly before the scheduled time, they sent me a couple of texts to confirm that I will be home. Then, right at the scheduled time, they arrived, took a quick look and confirmed that the heater needed to be replaced. They had the right heater on the van, the price seemed fair, and a short hour later, I had a spanking new water heater. No more water leak. And (very) hot water in all taps. I don't have any input on their substantive work, but customer service was atrocious and beyond unprofessional. He had been hired to replace a water heater in my mother's rental property. Joseph and his team did the initial work, but it took a couple months to finish a valve. In the interim, he never sent a bill despite being asked several times. My mother passed away very suddenly and I was left to try to figure what work needed to be done and who should get paid from out of town. The property manager was trying to get a bill, but ultimately sent me Joe's contact information after he was told the job was finally finished. Within two days, I emailed Joseph to get a bill. Joseph was beyond rude. I had had no prior interaction with him. I explained that my mother had passed away and that I understood there was a bill due. I asked for the invoice so I could take care of it. Instead, I received the following from Joseph Castro: "No we're not sending anybody an invoice unless we get payment ..." and then the following without waiting for a response: "Once we get the payment you will get the invoice if not I will have my plumber out there taking and disconnect in the water heater and we will take it to court." Again, this is the first ever interaction and in the context that his original client died unexpectedly and I was trying to make good on it. I finally got him to take a photo of an invoice which he had written up the same day -- no idea if it's accurate because I wasn't involved -- with a flat fee of $1800. No itemization or indication of time. No apology for the rude, threatening treatment out of the blue. I sent him the check as I'd promised, but I would recommend going elsewhere. Maybe it was just a bad day for him, but he felt compelled to make it a worse day for me despite the fact that I was the solution, not the cause, of his problem. Find a more customer-friendly, professional vendor. I have yet to hear back from him. If I do, I will update this review. read more

YELPERS BEWARE: You will be charged $85 for quotes!!! Please be AWARE before agreeing to let them come out to *look* at a problem and giving a quote. They charge flat $85 for simply LOOKING and NOT fixing any issues. We were also NOT told this beforehand AT ALL. We had a problem with our water heater's pilot light not staying on. Over the phone the owner told us they can FIX it for $85, and that's why we agreed for them to come out. When they got here they said it's a different part that was the issue and they couldn't fix it until we have the parts. However, they STILL insisted on charging for the full $85. Stay away. Joseph is completely unprofessional and they don't honor their warranty. I went with Joseph & team about 5 months ago for an American Standard heater. One of the main reasons was their offer of 5 yr warranty on labour in addition to 12 yr on the unit from American Standard. Within 5 months, the pipe connection where they connected the heater started leaking. I contacted them and they refused to honor it and didn't even come by to take a look, saying that that's not covered in their warranty. If the connection that they made to the unit isn't covered I can't imagine anything else being covered in their parts & labour warranty. (reducing to 1* for lying) My price quote went from $2000 to $2400 and part of the justification for the increase was that I needed a new drain pan which costs $78 (btw, I can find Al ones for $30). So why would I refuse the new drain pan? When I brought these issues up to you, you said you'd have it fixed that day. Later you told me Thurs maybe Fri with the same crew. When I said I wasn't sure if that works, you gave me an ultimatum "take it or leave it." (You realize people have work and other obligations and can't necessarily accommodate your schedule) I guess you are OK leaving it. As you can see from the pictures and the fact that he didn't deny any of the issues... he's absolutely OK with leaving jobs once he gets his payment. Buyer beware... Please note the price quota is excluding the permit!!! Was told after coming to address and it's not necessary to do permit. So I asked why it's so expensive(1.4K) without permit. The guys told me the American Standard is the best and the water heater(GSN40T-1-3-6 40gallon) cost over 900$. I did some search and found the actual online price is 450$. In August 2019 we called them to check out our water heater. Water heater was not heating the water, I had suspected that it was a thermo-couple issue. They charged $85 to make a visit and right away wanted to replace the water heater. They were not interested in fixing the existing heater. They tried to push my wife to purchase a new heater. I was at work so wife called and I talked with the person who had come from the efficient water heater. He was very rude, not interested in anything but to sell me new heater. Since this guys was so pushy, I said forget it. Give him his $85 for nothing and let him go. Few days later another company replaced the thermo-couple. I waited six months to make sure the heater was still working before writing this review, as it is possible that this efficient water heater guys was right. Our fixed water heater is still working. If I would have listened to efficient water heater guys, I would be down ~2K. Never use this company. They are not interested in fixing customer's problem. They are only interested in selling their new heater installation service. read more
