I wouldn't recommend this company for repairs. Requested a quote to replace a gas control valve. Joseph C., the owner, responded that my hot water heater has been recalled and they would like to offer a replacement. How he knew my particular model of hot water heater with no serial number or model number info was recalled is beyond me. I called my Ferguson rep who called his AO Smith rep who confirmed they have never recalled a hot water heater before. When I asked him if I'd get a free hot water heater because of the recall, what they'd replace it with, and could he give me information on the recall given the information above, he tried to rely on his expertise and then quickly passed on my job. This seems consistent with other reviewers on Yelp who bought into his sales pitch and bought all new hot water heaters. I never called this company. I emailed him 3 primary emails and 1 additional to also ask an additional question about what he would replace my hot water heater with as a part of the "recall." He emailed me 7 times including a few with snarky tones once he was caught trying to scam me with the fake recall. He should be ashamed trying to scam a single mom. The good news is I was able to find a lovely plumber who fixed my issue for a reasonable price same day and am thankful for the hot water coming out oF my pipes and my hope is that my review will guide Joseph to represent himself in the future more honestly. read more

My experience with Efficient Water Heaters is similar to Naoshad M's - see his 8/19/2019 review. In 2017, Efficient Water Heaters sold me an AO Smith water heater based on their recommendation. It leaked two days ago and the owner refuses to even come and diagnose it, saying it's out of warranty. I am willing to pay him the $85 just to look it it. He sold me a water heater that he knew was not being stocked any more. He claimed there were issues with this heater. I called AO Smith , gave them the serial number, and they say there are no issues with it. Joseph, stand by your work. I don't recommend using this company at all. Update: I called Mike Forney of Water System Plumbing who came within 10 minutes. He diagnosed the issue to a poor-quality hot water flex line that was leaking. I wanted to commend Joseph and his team - namely Ivan and Martin for a job well done, for the replacement of our water heater. Joseph replied quickly after my inquiry and thoroughly explained the brand options. Although I shopped around, they provided the best price upfront. They were on schedule when they said they would come and worked very clean and efficiently. Ivan was well informed and he explained the process. He also provided education on how the heater works and tips on how to take care of it. Martin installed a temporary unit (while the insurance repaired damage), and took care of placing the unit to allow the wall repair. When they finally came back to place the unit in its final place (again on schedule as promised), they took care good care of not damaging the walls. They also worked with us on aligning schedules. Sometimes contractors just force you on their availabilities. But Efficient respected us to agree on schedules. First, they promised to replace the water collection pan underneath the water heater and they destroyed my old one and put it back all mangled and messed up so if my heater leaks again it's going everywhere! On this past Saturday evening I was taking the shower for my son and got cold water. I then checked the water heater and found the leaking happened. It was already late, like around 9pm. We were desperate to find some guy to come to replace the water heater as soon as possible. But it was already late Saturday evening and I doubted there would be someone to answer the call. Luckily, when we reached out to Joseph, he immediately answered our call and setup the early morning visit next day which was a Sunday! He asked about photo for the old water heater thru text message so he knew what exactly the size of the water heater we needed. Next day by 7:30am Joseph showed up with a commercial grade water heater that is supposed to last 15 to 20 years. He finished the job in less than 2 hours. I used Efficient Water Heaters again last month, but this time for our own newly bought townhouse. I was keen on a two-step process meaning having the old hot water tank removed one day and have a new one installed a few days later so that I could clean out and paint the area where it was going to be. This was no problem to schedule and the price was better than other companies whose quotes I had obtained as well. Eli came to remove it on a Saturday and Edgar installed a new one on the Wednesday after. Communication was pleasant, they came on time and everything was installed properly. I called about 15 "businesses" in Sunnyvale for putting in factory parts I already had for a GE water heater three days before Christmas. Half of them did not answer the phone, quarter of them were not available for 7 or more (!) days to do this 40m job, and most wanted to charge $159 just to show up at the door (!!!) not even crediting the service call few towards any service! (Funnily one of them was 2 streets from my house who just missed out on making the easiest ~$200 because of this greedy business practice, which is becoming popular among plumbers in Sunnyvale). I called Efficient Water Heaters around 6pm, and they sent out a tech the next day. $150 total for the repair (incl. "service call fee") - given to me beforehand over the phone. The tech's name was Eli, who was not only friendly, highly knowledgeable (told me what was wrong before even seeing the unit, better than GE itself...) and straightforward, but also ended up using better parts, not replacing others that would have been unnecessary, and finishing the job cleanly and efficiently (true to the name of this business). Efficient Water Heaters is one of the worst contractors I have dealt with in a long time. Joseph is super arrogant and is unwilling to stand by the work he does and the brands he recommends. If you need any sort of service for the water heater after the initial install, Efficient Water Heaters will not be of any help. So beware before using them. Here's the chronology of events that led me up to this 1 start review for Joseph and Efficient Water Heaters: 6/2/2017: We had a 7 year old American Standard water heater that started leaking. Joseph came the same day and installed a new AOSmith water heater which he highly recommended as a commercial grade one with 8 years of warranty and told us it was one of the best you could buy. 11/2017: The water heater starts making a whistling sound. I called up Joseph and asked him what we should be doing about it. He said that he's aware that there is a problem with the whistling in AOSmith heaters and said he would order the parts from AOSmith to be replaced but that he cannot come by and do the work because he has stopped servicing AOSmith water heater as they've been having a lot of problems with them. He also told me that he no longer recommends AOSmith. So he went from AOSmith being one of the best in the business to not recommending it in a span of 5 months. I find that really bizarre. 7/2019: I noticed a small leak in the pipe connecting the water heater inlet to the expansion tank. I called up Joseph and asked him to come and replace the pipe. He said it was out of warranty and would charge me $185 for replacing it. His guys came by 3 days later and replaced it. 8/18/2019: The AOSmith water heater starts leaking. I call up Efficient and one of their technicians tells me that they can come out and check but that they would have to charge me $85 for just coming out to diagnose the problem. I chatted with Joseph on Yelp and he suggested that I get a return authorization from AOSmith and that he would come and do it for $585. He again said we do not recommend the brand any more and tried to convince me to buy a brand new heater from another company for which he would charge me $1400 instead of going through the warranty. I decided to use the warranty and got a return authorization from AOSmith. I then decided to talk to a few other contractors that AOSmith recommended to find out what they would charge me and to my surprise, realized that Joseph was the most expensive of the lot. The others quoted me $500 - $550 with 2 years warranty on labor. I called up Joseph and politely asked him if he was willing to make things right for me by considering doing the work for $500 and giving me a 2 year warranty on the labor. His response was shocking to me. He lashed out at me saying I should not be shopping around and that he stands by his price and will not "stoop to lower levels to prove ourselves". He told me that he wasn't interested in doing the job and to never call him back. What I realized is that a $85 difference is more important for Joseph than customer goodwill. He is not ready to stand by the work he does and the brands he recommends. He doesn't seem to believe in after sales service and is only interested in taking your money and not providing any support if something goes wrong. 8/19/2019: Joseph responds to my negative review saying I'm using a contractor who is not professional and does not have the experience. I'm not sure how he can make that assumption and so blatantly bad-mouth a competitor without even knowing who I plan to use. Clearly unprofessional and a huge red flag that should be taken into account when hiring Efficient Water Heaters. read more

Joseph and Ray were awesome! They were at my house within 30 minutes of my phone call. Within seconds Joseph knew my water heater wasn't worth repairing and needed a full replacement. They immediately got to work and a couple hours later my new tank was installed. They also swapped out my corroded valves that wouldn't close all the way, installed supports for the water heater, and properly strapped the whole thing down. Price was as stated before they started the job. Couldn't have asked for better service. And to top it off they were the nicest, most personable guys. read more

When your water heater breaks, you want it fixed well, quickly, and for a reasonable price. I shopped three different vendors and was happy with my decision to go with Efficient Water Heater. New tank installed next morning after call and they even cleaned up the water that was all over my garage, what a nice surprise. Joseph quoted based on iPhone images, and he honored it. Another vendor was very professional as well and I imagine their work would had been comparable. However their price was significantly higher and they did not have inventory for the special water heater unit required by my townhouse, which required a power vented system. Would have had to wait a few extra days for my hot water. The third vendor quoted the lowest price but when I asked about the details I kept hearing "that will cost extra" and they cannot give a firm quote based on photos I sent. Most horrible experience with the company. I don't recommend the company. Today is 08/30/2019, instructed the contractor to collect the service fee from my tenant before the trip, and told tenant that they could deduct the service fee from Sept. rent. That was in agreement. They quoted on the spot that the water heater needed to be replaced, $1400-$1500 to change the water heater. I told him that I never accepted verbal and ball park number for quote. And then 10 mins later, he said final price $1275. I never dealt with any professional company in this way. So I decided not to deal business with them, but just paid the $85 service fee. Again, the trip happened today around 4:30pm. I kept telling him to collect the service fee from my tenant. But got threatened to put lien on the property. Really, stay away from this company if you can. Use this platform to indicate my willingness to pay but got threatened with lien on the property. I discovered during my morning shower that I seemed to have no hot water. Not good! We had a tankless heater, which had stopped working. Efficient water heaters was out to our house within a few hours. Unfortunately, the first attempt of flushing and cleaning didn't hold and we needed to replace the unit. Efficient Water Heaters was once again able to do the work same day, had it up and running within a few hours. I'm no expert, but the work looks solid to me and I have hot water again. During the process, we needed to have a new electrical outlet installed which EWH was able to arrange as part of the quote, which was nice as we didn't need to end up calling out a second company for the electrical work. There was a minor misunderstanding about the agreed upon rate, but after a quick phone call, Joseph the owner was able to sort that out as well. They really do care about customer satisfaction and getting the job done quickly and professionally. read more

Was calling to have Joseph send a quote with make and model of water heater broken out so I can have some idea of what was being put in. He proceeded to accuse me of shopping around the order and in a stunningly unprofessional manner and tone said he was busy and couldn't send a quote with the breakout to my email. Clearly breaking out the model from quote shows how much these guys are gouging for a few hours of labor so they don't like it. Ironic they accuse customer of shopping quote. They prefer being able to gouge with now questions. This is simple dishonesty. Don't know how someone with this style can ever be a successful businessman. My water heater one day quit sending hot water. I check the light blinks and it shows 6 every 3 sec which means to replace the burner. I lookup local water heater guys and fill them in this info hoping to find help and resolve ASAP. I got a few quick response to schedule on-site consultation one even during weekend. Then I saw Joseph response "is it under warranty" which led me to dig more into this problem only to find out that I can call up AO Smith and have them send me a new burner through postal mail and then schedule someone to come put it in. All these other quick for consultation appointment guys never care to ask about warranty info even with the pics I posted clearly showing late newer model of AO Smith. Sure enough, soon as I received the replacement burner, Joseph send in a cool guy who took the old burner out and put the new one in. As easy as that, won't be that easy if I went with appointment for consultation first thing. We came home from a weekend away to find our 18-year old 75-gallon A&O Smith water heater leaking on the garage floor on a late Sunday afternoon. After reviewing several local Yelp businesses and getting weekend answering machines, Joseph Castro/owner personally answered my phone call, gave me instructions on how to deal with the leak (shut off the intake cold water valve, turn off the heater gas and pilot, drain the tank with a garden hose), and promised to arrive Monday morning at 7AM to install a new Slate Select 75-gallon tank. I highly recommend Joseph and team. They are very knowledgable and did a great job thoroughly explaining the problem and what your options are. For the overheating issue I had, it is hard to know what is going on inside the tank. Replacing the thermostat or valve controller may work but would only buy time for a more serious problem. Got home late from a work trip a few weeks ago to my water heater leaking badly. It was ancient and living on borrowed time. I knew it was only a matter of time before a complete blowout and my whole garage would be destroyed. I requested a quote and Joseph responded in a matter of minutes with a quote and a contact number. I called him up and he scheduled to be at my house by 9a the very next morning. I couldn't believe it! His guy showed up on-time and did an amazing job. He was so professional and answered a bunch of my random questions as he was wrapping up. Notes: 1) Joseph offered to bring a selection of water heaters for me to choose from, but I had done some quick "research" online and had already decided on a Rheem from Home Depot. When he was wrapping up, the installer let me know how crappy Rheems were and that I'd be lucky to get 2-3 years out of it without some sort of service... Hopefully it holds out, but I'll be calling Joseph up if I do run into problems. 2) They did accept my credit card but charged a fee and sounded like they preferred cash or check. (Maybe should consider PayPal or Venmo - who has checks anymore??) Yelp note: I did not purchase a Yelp deal. The deal was only for tankless water heaters - which was not specified on Yelp prior to purchase. On Saturday afternoon i found out that our water heater was leaking. I opened Yelp, and picked two companies based on the best reviews. I called one company, and there was no answer. I called a second company ,Efficient Water Heaters, and got an answer right away. A technician named Martin arrived within one hour. He looked at our water heater, and it was dead, so he gave me a couple of replacement options. The next day, Sunday!, Martin arrived at 9 AM, did all the installations, removed the old water heater and cleaned all the mess. Fast, and efficient! I am very happy with all his work. My Water heater's burner died yesterday, So i went looking for someone to come and try to replace the burner. I was super lucky to find Joseph from Efficient Water Heaters!! I messaged him on yelp for a quote, the coolest thing was that he gave me the quote same day within the hour i sent him the message! i was able to schedule with him to come and replace my burner the next day, we were scheduled for 10am-12pm but he gave me a call ahead and said he will be be coming early! which was amazing and when he came in to work on replacing the burner, it only took him 30mins! that was fast!
