We chose this vendor based on the Yelp reviews. We also appreciate all the hard work and services received from the nice young technician (not Joseph), just like many others. This review is NOT to target the nice young man who works hard. We had a quite frustrating experience which we really want to share. 09/23/2017; The water heater was installed by Efficient. We paid extra $225 for permit. On the invoice/agreement, it was stated that: "The permit is to be done at the end of the month". 10/10/2017: We followed up on the status of the permit, since we did not received any permit paperwork. Joseph told us that they did not do it for September and that they will be pulling permit at the end of THIS MONTH (October) and sending it to our home. Okay, we just waited (not a big deal at this moment). 10/24/2017: Almost month-end, so we followed up again (!!). But, we were told that they will be pulling permits in the middle of NOVEMBER (broke their end-of-Oct promise), and we were asked to be patient!! They also told us that we will get the permit FOR SURE next month (which is NOVEMBER). 11/21/2017: Still did not receive the permit, so we followed up once again (!!!). We were told (once again) that they will pull it at the end of month and that we should get it around the middle of December. Another broken promise. This looks like a never-ending story. And, our patience was also running out and we told Joseph that we don't want to keep waiting, intended for the permit to be pulled ASAP. Then, Joseph replied back that he will send our money back (the permit portion), and told us that we can go down to the City Hall to do it ourselves. 11/26/2017: Joseph informed us that the check (of $225) was mailed out, and told us that they are not pulling the permit since we couldn't wait, that they pull permits EVERY 3 MONTHS, and that they weren't sure when they will pull permits next time. 11/29/2017: Today, we received the check of $225, and a letter which says that we broke binding agreement, and that they'll PASS ON ANY FUTURE WORK. This means that if there is any problem found during the inspection by the city, they will not address or fix it. ### This has been really frustrating!!! Therefore, I went ahead write my first Yelp review. We understand people have been really busy and appreciate that. If they could not pull permit for any reason, they should just let us know, instead of making the promise at the beginning, keeping us waiting, waiting and waiting, and at the end, say that it's our problem of not waiting. Said he could have his technicians at my house the next morning between 7-8am. He quoted me a very fair price for the new water heater installation and old water heater haul away. I had to replace my natural gas water heater because it was leaking. Joseph was very quick to give quotes and schedule the work to the very next morning. Reasonable price, but he said I could apply for a San Jose city permit by myself. I requested to replace a 50-Gallon tank with 40-Gallon one, he just brought a same brand same size tank, but I think it's okay as far as the quoted price doesn't change. The new tank has a 9-year manufactory warrantee, which is even better. He completed an installation within 2 hours, very clean and professional. He kindly added another year of labor warranty, but somehow I need to call Home Depot if I ever need services, somewhat strange. I have the water heater leaky issue and asked efficient water heater (EWH) to get replaced. Overall, the experience is okay, efficient, but not that great. The price is middle, not low compared to others. But the unhappy thing is that EWH will first quote a OTD price. Then after they arrive, they will say things like this has to be changed, that has to be changed, and then increase the final price. This is kind of bait and bite trick. My 10 year-old AO Smith 50 gallon power vent water heater decided to quit a couple days ago. I called many contractors to shop around and found out a few of them charges a fee for inspection, which was not what I wanted to hear. I SMS several pictures of the water heater to him and he gave a quote over the phone right away and arranged an appointment first thing the next morning to replace the water heater. His cousin, Marcos, came a bit earlier than the scheduled time next morning for the job. He was knowledgeable, funny and courteous. The job was more strenuous than expected due to the location of the water heater being on the 2nd floor, but he was professional about it. This company sucks. They installed the water heater for us less than 2 months. The water heater broken and a lot of water comes out cause a big water damage (including my neighbors). This is all because of their bad skill of installation. We reported this accident to them. And they said they will report this to their insurance company then compensate our big loss. But after that nobody wants to take care of this problem. We try to connect them again and again during the whole week. But they block my number. If Yelp allowed me to give 6 stars, I would do so after my experience with Efficient Water Heaters. I found my hot water heater leaking terribly today (of course, on a Sunday afternoon). When I called, Joseph and Ray happened to be in the area finishing another job, and were at my house within the hour. Unfortunately, the existing heater needs to be replaced. In addition, there is a fair amount of water damage of the adjacent flooring, which needs to be repaired before the new heater can be installed. So Joseph called another company with which he has a strong relationship (see my next review), whose rep arrived only 1 hour later. Within 30 minutes, a plan of attack was scheduled, appropriate follow-up was organized, and they answered all of my questions - I am awfully naive about these kinds of repairs, but they were patient and friendly. Unfortunately, due to this combination of problems, the new water heater won't be installed for a few days until the other repairs can be performed. However, the time, patience, and professionalism these folks showed makes me completely confident in their plan.
