The day I feared since laying eyes on my aged water heater had finally arrived. The tank had failed and was now leaking water in the garage. Joseph and crew installed a new water heater and water pressure regulator for us at a very fair price. They did a great job with the installation and did extra work to vent the relief lines outside the house as I wanted. However, after the work was done we experienced vibration noises in the water pipes. They replaced the tank lines with braided stainless steel (at no cost) but it didn't work. Then they added water hammer suppressors (which I paid for) but that didn't work either. Joseph would not pursue any remedy beyond this and became very belligerent at the idea that he had any more responsibility. I hired a plumber who diagnosed a faulty pressure regulator (the one EWH had installed). He replaced it at a cost of $500 and fixed the problem. I was disappointed that Joseph didn't come out to diagnose the problem himself, especially since it was his regulator that failed. I think the problem could have been resolved early at less cost to us. I just spoke with Joseph and he refused to refund any money because I gave him a 3 star rating. We had spoken on the phone a dozen times about the problem, including the eventual fix, and he never offered to refund anything for the water hammer suppressors or the pressure regulator. Thanh Do, CA I have made a bad decision to hired Efficient Water Heaters to provide the service of installing the A.O. Smith water heater in May 2017. My water heater was leaked and it's still under warranty to replace it by a contractor. Per A.O.Smith, manufacturer I will only have to pay the contractor for labor to install it and A.O.Smith will reimburse the cost of the heater. Joseph, the owner of this business told me that he could not wait for reimbursement for the heater cost from A.O.Smith, so in order to get another A.O.Smith water heater and install it, I have to pay him both labor and cost of the water heater in advance. Joseph promised me that no worries he will help me to get the reimbursement for the water heater. I've read the review from Yelp about this business so I trusted him and paid total of $2100 for labor and water heater cost. Couple week later I called him several times to get update of my reimbursement for water heater cost, but he kept saying that he doesn't have time to fill out and submit my reimbursement to A.O.Smith, and also it will take about 5,6 months. So I called A.O.Smith and they said that they have already provided Joseph with the approval for reimbursement. I called Joseph again so many times but he didn't answer my calls. I left uncounted messages but Joseph didn't call me back. Finally in beginning of Oct 2017 I called A.O.Smith and they said that Joseph has already received the reimbursement of $1,100 for the water heater from A.O.Smith around May-Jun. However, Joseph didn't send this reimbursement to me which I've already paid him for it. So this means that Joseph made money both from me and A.O.Smith for the water heater cost. I'm so sad and disappointed that Joseph at Efficent Water Heaters has treated me this way while I trusted him with good Yelp review. First, I want to express a big thank you to Joseph for responding so fast. I was in a difficult situation because I had no warm water at home. I first called a different company by the name of "Water Heater Specialist" CA License #741904. They came out and told me it was the heat sensor and that they were going to charge me $429.00 for what amounted to 15 minutes of work. One important fact for people that are reading this is that any company you call is going to charge a fee to come and see what the problem is. I turned to Yelp and requested quotes from a few other companies and was happy to see a fast response. I found that Efficient Water Heaters was upfront about the $85 charge and at the end, he applied a portion of the cost towards replacements parts. Joseph gave us a fair price and came very quickly to fix our water heater. STAY AWAY! I agree with another reviewer who had a bad experience and had to deal with Joseph's arrogance. I am going thru the same experience at present. I had my water heater installed thru this company 2 yrs ago ( 2017) and he recommended to put the expansion tank for my system which I went for. A year or so later (labor warranty expired now), one of the galvanized nipples used to install expansion tanks corroded and started leaking. He blamed it on my water softener system which used salt. I bought his argument and paid him $150 (Sep 20, 2018) and asked to remove all galvanized part to replace with brass rather than just the corroded one. He told me that the rest is fine and recommended to change the water softener. I had another saltless water conditioning system installed soon after. Last evening (Sep 17, 2019) I come home and remaining galvanized nipple was leaking. Thankfully he showed up to look at that but was being arrogant as usual and told me that he is doing the favor to me. He ripped my thermal expansion tank out and all the other parts and took with him and gave me quote for another $150 to put new expansion tank now. For that, I have to call him next Wednesday and take an appointment. This time apparently my brand new water conditioning system is suspected to not have been installed properly and caused expansion tank to fail which lead to pipe corrosion and leak. SERIOUSLY?? While he was onto his yapping, he won't even listen to my argument and kept saying "TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT". Anyways, I feel bad that I got distracted by his excessive/aggressive talking and let him take the tank and brass pipes which he charged me for last time. He probably wanted me to be his hostage now that part of my system is with him. Anyways, after thinking for a bit, I decided to cut my losses and that I don't want to deal with this unpleasant guy anymore. Water heater still has 8 yrs of warranty on it. I hope it lives its life. I will have someone else install new thermal expansion tank for me even if I have to pay more. I fell for good reviews he has racked up. I guess it is all good until you run into a problem. Joseph installed a new Navien tankless water heater for us in two hours (replacing an outdated malfunctioning one we inherited from the previous owner). The initial installation went well, John and his son did a good job. BUT I had two service issues, the first went well to fix a minor problem, then then the heater failed after 10 months. I called John and was promised repair two times, after three days without hot water and several phone calls, he contacted the manufacturer. They showed up and repaired the heater During these phone calls with John, he had numerous excuses and hung up on me when I pressed him for details. As a small business owner, his attitude and caustic manner, is terrible. They showed up at the appointed time (well, a little bit late, but it was pouring rain, so completely understandable with traffic), replaced the water heater, and were on their way in two hours. Called efficient water heater for my parents condo because the hot water wasn't consistent. It's a condo less than 10 years old and right off the bat, they're recommending a water heater replacement costing $1500-$3000. They agreed to send someone out to take a look first and the person who came out was on time, efficient and recommended to have the water heater flushed and see if it helps. The flushing cost $100 and I even gave a $20 tip because I appreciated him explaining some details to me. If it didn't work, I was going to call them back and have them install a new one which they quoted me at $2750. After he left, one of the spouts was dripping water and I thought that may be normal for a flushing. The hot water was working well but the dripping continues so I called back efficient water heaters to see if they have any recommendations, maybe a valve wasn't tightened enough after he flushed it. Right off the bat, the guy who answered started pushing me to a new water heater and when I mentioned they just came out to flush it this morning and that this is a new drip, he got defensive. Basically it was either I bought a new water heater from them or they weren't doing business with me. Surprising given how many great reviews this company has but I'd highly recommend stay away. Joseph, nobody is taking advantage of you. I would've happily replaced my water heater (for ~3k) if it truly couldn't be fixed but you can't even bother being friendly or courteous to a paying customer. If it's leaking after you came out to flush it, at least offer to come back and take a look. Being rude and defensive doesn't exactly give you a professional look. Either way, I'll have another company come out and see. And maybe they get it fixed and maybe they don't and I get a new water heater from them. My old heater had been making popped noise with each boiling cycle. It's due to the accumulation of minerals from the water supply all these years. I found "Efficient Water Heaters" through yelp. Now I have a brand new double insulated fifty gallons heater the next day after I contacted Joseph. He spent close to two hours to do customer works - from drain pan, connectors, and others. He even earthquake-prove it by installing two pieces of 2x4 to keep the water heater from moving before the straps.
