The view is lovely, with houses nearby and Lewis Bay, seeing across the body of water. It can be windy on some days, as happened during our visit. Luckily, there were no significant incidents, but keep that in mind. There is a lot of parking space at Kalmus, which also connects to the other three beaches. In the parking lot, there is a snack bar and also a bathroom.

Getting to the water is a bit of a walk, but at the same time, great exercise. The view is decent for the most part, I wouldn't consider anything too exciting, except the view out to the west looking towards Point Gammon Lighthouse, which didn't look visible due to the weather. Across the water, you'll see Thacher Town Park Beach, which can't be crossed. One of the entrances has a mini fence on the ground, warning about sandpipers. Be careful while stepping over. There's no doubt I'll make this stop again.

The beach itself was nice enough: decent sand, not rocky, not an over abundance of seaweed. That's where the enjoyment ended. That beach had a constant barrage of biting flies that annoy the crap out of you. They are small, relentless,painfully bite, and leave itchy marks where they bite. We stayed for 3 hours to try to get our $14 (parking fee) worth but after that, we left. I'll never go back since I now know those biting flies are an issue there and have been for years. Two thumbs down and I cannot recommend Scusset Beach to any beach goer who wishes to have a lovely day at the beach. Side note : the water was so cold also, with zero waves and contained floating seaweed. Terrible.

After spending 5 minutes with Katie and her team he was up and riding waves all the way in. Katie has a gift with children and adults. Her love of surfing and relaxed teaching style made this an experience we won't soon forget. We loved our time with Sugar Surf so much that we will be going back for another surf lesson with Katie. They provide the board, the wetsuit, the knowledge, all you'll need to bring is your smile and some stoke. Thank you Sugar Surf for being the highlight of our trip to Wellfleet.

I lost my dad 7 years ago but as I was standing on the pier I could hear him yelling at me as if I were purposely catching puffer fish that he had to fight off the hook. Yes, I admit to getting teary eyed with nostalgia. It is a really cute beach with a nice jetty. The pier is great for high tide fishing and low tide viewing. The water is super clear with no snags or rocks to catch your line.

If I am to rate this beach it's simple, out of all the open ocean facing South Yarmouth beaches…read morethis is the one as a child I called the new beach because it was created last on this strip of beaches roughly a mile or so long. It sits at the opposite end from the free "first" beach and in between is what we always called the "swing" beach for obvious reason. This beach sits next to the Smugglers Beach motel which I think was changed to condos many years ago. The beach has a large boat ramp for launching boats and the ramp used to be free but now the town charges to launch. The beach itself also charges to park. Overall the largest beach and it sits at the mouth of Bass River and has a pier to fish from.

There is a parking fee during the day. At night it is free if you want to watch a sunset or walk. Check the town schedule for fireworks. This is an ideal site to view them. In all a good scenic beach.

I have dipped my toes in the water after sunbathing but I don't think I'd go all the way in because there is often a lot of seaweed. Bonus is that it's easy to get to on bike or foot from the surrounding area if you're nearby. Also, it appears many people like to park and read a book or just relax in their car because there are nice views when you pull up. I also love how many great seashells you can find here if you're into that. Lots of fun shells to make jewelry out of if you're feeling crafty! Not many complaints about this beach. No matter what, it'll always hold a special place in my heart!
