After so many times of vacationing in Ogunquit, I finally got to drop by Egg & I to check out their breakfast. I went around 1130am, perfect timing as it was not packed or busy at all! The whole place is very big, and clean. I ordered the Breakfast Sampler, 2 of everything. It was good, like very decent good. However my french toast was a little soggy, felt almost undercooked. My friend's pancakes were awesome! They had a few options on their menu, I'm sure the other meals taste good. Overall not a bad place to stop by for breakfast. read more

On the weekend and anywhere outside of LI, I yearn for that diner experience. It's a LI way of living. I mean, you can't drive 5 minutes without passing by a town diner. All I need are solid egg/pancake options, juice and a bottomless cup of coffee. That being said, on the last day of my Maine trip I wanted to have a hearty breakfast before I hit the road. The Egg & I is a cute spot that the locals flock to. It's located right off the main road, so you can't miss it. Inside, the vibe is super casual and relaxed. The service was friendly and quick even though it was pretty busy (for a Wednesday morning too). I perused the menu and saw the staples like waffles and pancakes but with a Maine touch. Blueberry options in everything, which I loved. But in the end, I decided on a build your own omelette with green peppers, onions, broccoli, spinach and cheddar. Despite the claims of long wait times, we were seated immediately (only 2 people) on an August Sunday morning. It's a good thing too, because it would've ruined my day to wait half an hour for the overpriced pedestrian breakfast that I found inside. I don't understand what the fuss is about. In fairness, I didn't try the fancy french toast offerings (amaretto, pineapple, coconut, you name it). Instead, I got a simple dish of two eggs, potatoes, and toast. My SO got the regular french toast, and we split a side of hash. There was absolutely nothing remarkable about any of the food. Sure, eggs are eggs, but there could have been homemade jam for my toast, say, or maybe some maple syrup for the flavorless french toast. Even an excellent roast for the $2 coffees would have salvaged something. But there wasn't any of that. Everything was unremarkable, from the jam, the syrup, the coffee, all the way to the lack of cinnamon or vanilla in the french toast. What WAS remarkable was the cost for a breakfast you can get at any diner in any corner of the country. The above items totaled $22 and change before tip. No thank you. read more

Came here with the family for breakfast on a weekend trip to Maine. We arrived around 8:30, and with the number of cars in the lot we were surprised to get a table right away. This was a huge plus, considering we had our 18-month-old with us; waiting for food with a toddler is a giant pain. Anyway, my pancake combo breakfast was delicious, and our son really liked his pancake. My husband had the chocolate-and-peanut butter chip pancake special, which was delicious, but should maybe have come with a side of insulin. Coffee was good, and our server was very attentive and sweet. Also nice that there were tons of kids there, so when ours made some extra noise we didn't really feel like we were bothering anyone. We rounded out our meal withe the purchase of a blueberry muffin to go... I just now ate some of it and it was delicious, as was the blueberry butter that it came with. Ordinarily, I would balk at paying $3 bucks for a muffin, but in this case, we had to take a picture of the thing next to our five-week-old's head, to see which was bigger. Very disappointing, not worth the hype. It's pretty much a cash only tourist trap. And you would think that since their saving on credit fees by being cash only that the prices would be low, well guess again, be prepared to pay a lot more than other breakfast places in the near by area. We figured we would have saved about $10.00 if we had ordered the same thing somewhere else. Coffee was lousy and waitress seemed to have an attitude because my wife needed another minute to decide what she wanted. She ended up getting pan cakes which was a little greasy and over cooked. Arriving after 11am, the place was virtually empty for a midweek day in October. No complaints at all. No matter what your craving, there is a great option for you here. My wife and I stopped by on a Sunday morning for breakfast during peak season. As long as you get in before 10AM or so, there is no wait. My wife got the eggs benedict with home made corned beef hash. Great seasoning with parsley, onions, salt, on big english muffins and topped with perfectly poached eggs. You get a big serving that sets you up for a productive day. I had the waffle which was large and topped with strawberry sauce. It was sweet and slightly salty. Just perfect. Overall, Egg & I is a must stop for breakfast when in the area. read more

Good Breakfast There were 8 people in our party that stopped there for breakfast. The wait was not really that bad but during peak times expect to wait. The one thing I do not like about this place is it's cash only policy. A lot of us on vacation do not want to carry cash and credit cards are so convenient. I found the service to be really good. After we were seated the waitress was at out table very quickly. She started us off with coffee which I foud to be hot and not bad as opposed to some of the reviews. I had their monster breakfast for $12.00 (pancakes, french toast, 2 eggs, bacon and sausage) I was not sure what I wanted and this punched all the tickets and was very inexpensive. Worst service we've experienced in Maine. Waiting over an hour for basic breakfast, nothing out of the ordinary. Save yourself the aggravation and go somewhere else. We had Bessie's yesterday morning and it was better food and, comparatively, spectacular service. Chewy english muffin topped with a fair amount of lobster chunks, perfectly cooked egg and hollandaise sauce. This was probably one of the better benedicts I've had in my life. I had eaten at the EGG and I back then, and had ordered the Maryland Crab Cake Eggs Benedict, and was incredible and left a lasting impression. Fast forward 9 years later almost exactly to the day, and remembering the wonderful breakfast I had years ago, I recommended this place to the 9 other family members traveling in our party. We had initially tried to go there for breakfast at 8:30, and it was jam packed, with people scattered across the parking lot waiting to get in. There's no way a party of 10 would be seated anytime soon, so we decided to return the following day. We return the next day at 7:30, and all 10 of us were seated immediately. Nice! Gotta say, Maine doesn't really seem like the best place in the world to have coffee because not a single place we tried served very good coffee, and EGG & I is no exception. There seems to be mixed reviews on here, and I haven't tried anything else on the breakfast menu, but after having the Maryland Crab Cake Eggs Benedict again, after last enjoying it 9 years prior, I remembered why this particular dish stood out in my head all this time! It's simply DELICIOUS! Some people in my party had the Lobster Eggs Benedict, and others had the Maryland Benedict, and we shared with one another, and hand's down, the Maryland Benedict is the best item on the menu! The cute little name of this breakfast establishment appealed to us as we cruised along Route 1 in hopes of satisfying our craving for bacon and eggs. It is your typical breakfast place with paper placemats and upside down coffee mugs on each table. Very low key and casual, but exactly what we wanted. The waitstaff was very friendly and attentive. Our food came out quickly and hit the spot. Good food, but nothing special. My scrambled eggs tasted better than they looked, but I wished my bacon was a little more crispy. This restaurant is cash only which can be somewhat of an inconvenience. There is an ATM as you enter, but it is oddly positioned very close to a table. It puts you in an awkward position of feeling as though you should converse with the people at the table while you make your withdrawal. Of course that ATM withdrawal comes with a service charge of almost $3.00 as well so beware. The pancakes lacked the fluffiness that all pancakes should have and the steak and egg omelette reminded me of the steak-umms I used to eat as a kid. I have seen this restaurant every time I have gone to Ogunquit but never tried it before this past Memorial Day weekend. A short wait at the door but we were seated fairly quickly. They have a very extensive breakfast menu so everyone's cravings can be met. I had their special Lemon Cream filled French Toast and my friend had the Eggs Benedict with their homemade hash. Both exceptionally good (it's really hard to find good hash) with huge portions. We could only eat half but had the rest for breakfast the next morning. Our waitress was also extremely friendly and attentive. The only thing you need to know ahead of time is they only take cash. I can't wait to go back the next time I'm there. read more

There's always a line because the food is pretty good but it's not hard to serve a good breakfast. The service is abysmal though. Coffee is served right away then the next wait starts. When the server does show up to take your order make sure that it's just a basic order. I asked for the home fries to be well done and was told she had to check with the kitchen. 8-10 minutes later she came back and said "they can't do that they come as they come". After that we were served fairly quickly offered a refill on the coffee and handed the check. Two words: feeding trough. My gf and I were unfortunate enough to have experienced this place (more than once!), and these days, we avoid the Egg & I like the plague. Do not let the big inviting sign, and long lines fool you; once you're (eventually) seated, you will be treated to the most underwhelming breakfast of your life (outside of an IHOP or the like). The Egg & I is a lot bigger than it looks like on the outside, but in this case, that's not a good thing. If you're not lucky enough to be seated at a booth, you'll be taken to dine in the back room, and seated at their long uncomfortable benches (think community church gatherings). The eggs are all carton substitutes, the coffee is tasteless, even by diner standards, and everything from the bacon to the hash browns is mediocre. My gf was excited to try the biscuits and gravy, but was completely disappointed. Service isn't that great either, but I think that has more to do with how busy the place gets. Also, every time I've been here, it's always With so many great breakfast places in the ogunquit/wells area, it's a wonder that this place gets so much business... plus sitting outside for however long just adds insult to injury. Had breakfast here twice while visiting this past week. I was craving pumpkin pancakes and looked up restaurants that might make them. This had great reviews, so we decided to give it a try. Wednesday when I asked about pumpkin pancakes they were not making them that day, but she went right into the kitchen to see if maybe Thursday they would. Sure enough they would have pumpkin pancakes. Tried the blueberry pancakes. Out of this world. Thursday we came back and sure enough... Pumpkin pancakes. They were wonderful. My boyfriend ordered the french toast and was OBSESSED with it. Said its easily is favorite breakfast of our vacation. I ordered a breakfast burrito and it was delish. Yummie eggs, perfectly cooked veggies and yummie homemade sausage. The homefries were amazing, crispy and the flavor was so good on the seasoning they had. Their hours say 7am- 12pm. The host rudely turned my husband and I away at 11:33am saying "if we keep taking people we will never get out of here." She did not greet us or apologize either. If they do turn people away before noon they should change their hours to say 7am to 11:30am. We go to The Egg and I every year and love the food. So being turned away in the way we were wasn't our favorite experience and we probably won't be back. read more

I got the hash breakfast and it was very good. The hash is homemade and you can definitely taste the difference. Everything was fresh, hot and felt good in my tummy! I wasn't expecting it pulling up to a breakfast place in Ogunquit, but then again, I guess word spreads. This was our first trip to the Egg, and the wait wasn't too bad (20 minutes). It isn't that large inside. So that can certainly be the cause of the backup. The service was very friendly and fast. My wife had the sampler with French toast. People who complain about the long lines here etc. do not know the first thing about eating out in Ogunquit, and that is the fact that timing is everything. Yeah it's a busy place, that is because it is popular I guess. I have no problem getting seated that is because I have some fame locally of course, appearing at the Ogunquit Playhouse quite frequently. No that's not true, I appear at Jonathan's with a reggae band from Jamaica. Well that's not true either. A pretty good breakfasty eggy place, it has a good vibe as in everyone wants to eat breakfast here. It is a local goldmine, the ladies who own it just stand up front collecting money, they are washed in it, I went up to the cashier to break a hundred and it was like getting change for parking, 5 twentys tossed back at me like it was chump change. But they have nice style and good for them and their breakfasty stuff was good and they even suggested a good place to stay nearby. read more

WOW Could be the only word to describe this place. Came in for a late breakfast around 10:30 during my family's stay in Wells and I could not have been happier. Service was excellent and we were offered menus and coffee immediately. I got a garden omelet with homefries and toast. This place makes omelets the way they should be...where the fillings are inside the omelet and not mixed in with the egg. :) Other orders at my table included the turkey bacon melt, and wraps of some sort, which were thoroughly enjoyed. If we come back to Wells next summer, oh we'll be back. :) Highly recommended. Oh, and last thing before you go, it is CASH ONLY, so bring some green. We have eaten here multiple times in the past on trips to the area. The last time was 2 years ago. Staff was friendly and atmosphere was upbeat. Not any longer. Hostess had a sour look on her face the whole time. Waitress did her best but seemed inexperienced. Food took 45 minutes to arrive. When it did my poached eggs were swimming in water. My toast was dry without the margarine I requested. When the margarine did arrive it was rock hard cold and so useless. Potatoes were inconsistent with some undercooked and some mushy. Used to have a homey feel to the place and now feels like a chain restaurant. Very disappointed and will probably not return in the future. read more

I have a love hate relationship with Egg & I. I love love LOVE the breakfast but I refuse to wait an hour or more for it. If I go here, it's usually in the off season. I hit this place up thinking "what I really need right now is some delicious breakfast-y foods," to make up for the fact that the expedition to Mekhong Thai II had been such a failure. I was not disappointed! It's a pretty basics sort of place, diner-style, but very clean and attractive. The staff was friendly, and the service was really quick. Now, the food. The food was good. Very tasty; much better than your IHOP or Bickford's. The Breakfast Special was hugely filling, with 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, 2 strips of bacon, 2 pieces of toast, and finalls, 2 pieces of sausage!
