Average breakfast food for above average prices. $25 after tip. Rating 6/10 Pros: Modern interior, nice staff. Cons: Boring "special", over priced.

Cherrywood Avocado Toast with fried eggs (over easy) and fruit
    Amy P.

My husband and I discovered Egg Harbor Cafe after an early morning appointment about an hour from home. We decided we deserved a breakfast after enduring the morning traffic. I didn't leave a review the first time, but it was excellent. Because I kept dreaming about the cherrywood avocado toast (I'm not an avocado toast girl), we tried the Barrington location as well. Both locations were excellent!!! After going to a second appointment with my daughters today, I decided to treat them (okay, myself) to breakfast again. I had to have the avocado toast again. The sweet flavor of the balsamic vinegar reduction combined with the salt of the goat cheese and the creaminess of the avocado combined with the crisp bacon is perfection. I'm am all about contrasting textures and flavors, so I love this dish. My daughter had the San Antonio skillet and said it was better than similar skillets from other restaurants. My other daughter had the Swedish pancakes (thin pancakes like crepes), and they were delicious as well. Despite the delicious food, the best part was our server (who happened to be the same server my husband and I had). Her name is Betty, and she was the sweetest, most attentive server I have ever had!!!

Reserve your spot ahead of time as wait times can be 20-40 minutes on the weekends. Staff was super nice and service was quick. I didn't love everything we ate and I think Ellie's is better. The honeybee latte was a hit. I had Joe's Healthy Scrambler and I thought it was bland overall. My English muffin got soggy because there was some liquid from the eggs/cheese. Loved the signature jam though! I asked for extra honey and added that to my iced mocha. That was delish! Otherwise, the mocha isn't sweet. They have an extensive menu. No corned beef hash to my surprise.

    Californai tuna melt

Seven years later, and that tuna melt is still my go to favorite! Some things never change! Some things do... at some point over the years, EH changed the avocado on the sandwich to a guac spread, which was very underwhelming and not nearly as good as the actual avocado slices. Since then, I've made it a point to clarify and ask for actual avocado every time I order. The tuna melt is about $15 now and comes with a side salad with the signature poppyseed dressing and side of cubed potatoes with green onion. Love that green onion touch! Plenty to choose from on the menu, like skillets, waffles, French toast, sandwiches, and salads, with an extensive kids' menu too. More unique offerings like a chorizo burrito and shakshuka are options too. This location recently got its floors redone (looks nice!) and has added an espresso machine at the front and really plus'd up on their specialty drink menu. Think s'mores lattes, brown sugar lattes, apple macchiatos, and frozen Frappuccino-like drinks. Mimosas, sangria, and bloody Mary's are also available. Pro tip: during your birthday month, you'll get a $10 off voucher if you're part of the loyalty program.

I really loved the service especially capuccino made by Andrew. Really good job-reminded me of Europian trips Thanks, Andi

Service was good, not great, waiter could've been more attentive. Food was tasty, coffee was not! Lots of options on the menu. I would return.

    Matt's Meat Skillet

While visiting Chicago I didn't care to have breakfast in the hotel. Busy on a Saturday morning as you would expect. Cute little place with a good menu. Service was pleasant and quick. They leave a thermos of coffee which is a nice touch. Meat skillet was good but would have been better if the eggs weren't overcooked. I ordered over easy but they were medium to hard. Skillet was jam packed with ham sausage and bacon. English muffin was well toasted as requested. All in all a good spot.

Great food and service! Everything was delicious, especially the San Antonio skillet and banana French toast. The wait times can be somewhat long, but it is definitely worth it!

The coffee was hot, the pancakes light and fluffy, the bacon crisp. Our server was prompt and the food was wonderful.

The deli is the main attraction, and we got a couple sandwiches. I got a reuben, their leanest cut, and it was really good. There was so much meat--too much for me, but it is super filling. They also have a bakery, though I didn't pick anything up from there. There's lots of soups, too, which I'll probably pick up if I visit again. There are some specialty foods, and they have some tables both in and outside if you'd like to stay a while.

Place the order at one end of the counter and you pick it all the way on the end. They take the sandwich in back to finish it. I ordered a corned beef on an onion roll. While I waited they have a nice selection of baked goods. Cookies, bread and desserts!! The decor is eclectic with nice nods to delis. I received my sandwich and ate outside, because the indoor dining area was full. My sandwich was really good, I would like a little extra mustard next time. The meat was tender and flavorful. The pickles they give you are top notch.

It came as a great recommendation! We didn't have it for a while since we live the low-carb life but were thrilled to learn they do a "sub in a tub". I love their tuna salad/sub. Their bread is soft, back when I could eat it. They don't overfill it with mayo either and add some mild peppers or hot on request. I like that they don't have onions at the deli so it doesn't overpower everything else. My husband typically loves the club. They rolled a generous amount into a container and I used scissors to quickly and easily cut it. It was a perfect lunch and I have enough for another tomorrow! For $8, or $11 for a generous tuna scoop, you can't beat it. Staff is also quick and friendly at the deli, as well as checkout. You can find all kinds of things for the house or to gift someone whether it's food, a cookie jar, something imported from Italy, or a homemade meal. You'll find something for everyone.
