This place looks brand new... and yet it is 60 years old? This has a diner mixed with Mexican vibe. You come in and are told to seat yourself. The bring over the menu and ask what you'd like for a drink. This is definitely a casual place. The server is friendly and knowledgeable about the restaurant's history, the menu items, and he genuinely wants to make sure your experience goes well. The flowers on the table are a nice touch. I ordered my regular ham and cheese omelette with hash browns and a side of corned beef hash. The omelette was American grill style (flat eggs browned slightly on the outside and folded over). Not my favorite but liked by many. The ham was fine. There wasn't anything amazing about the omelette. The corned beef hash was fine. Likely out of a can. But then there is the hash browns... yes! Seasoned hash browns! Finally! I would go here just for the hash browns. The price is good. There was a lot of food involved and it was less than I would normally pay going to a chain breakfast. Overall, this is a decent breakfast.

Hubby and I celebrated buying a new dryer by getting some lunch here. From the outside it looked very small but it was larger once you get inside. Very neighborhood-y. Asked a staff member how long they have been around and I was told more than 30 years. Looks like they have quite a following with the locals. It was very busy! Hubby got the cheeseburger and I got the turkey club. I thought my turkey club was quite good and I would not hesitate to order it again. Tony said that he wished the cheeseburger came with more toppings like pickle but he said it was definitely a satisfactory cheeseburger. I will rate this place a very solid four. It's not fancy but it is a great option if you're just looking for a quick meal. Looked like they serve breakfast until 3pm and it is now open for dinner.

I am all for supporting local businesses that is why I am glad that Greenwood Grill reopened after it closed during the Covid pandemic. I used to have breakfast here and always liked the busy and friendly vibe. They served basic breakfast dishes, nothing special but I always left satisfied. My daughter and I have been wanting to try this place again, having heard that they now also serve Mexican dishes. We came in on a Saturday around 11 am and there were a couple of tables occupied. Once we got inside, there was a blonde woman by the cashier who looked at us, then turned around. Awkward. We waited for a couple of minutes but nobody greeted nor welcomed us so we sat ourselves in a booth. After a couple of minutes, I flagged down a server and asked if we were supposed to get the menus or order at the counter. He came back and gave us the menus and glasses of water. My daughter tried the STEAK BREAKFAST BURRITO which was full of potatoes inside. We opened up the burrito and tried finding actual steak because there were barely any meat. I just had the DEUCES WILD which was good and basic. Our server was pleasant but we had to flag him down for coffee, to go boxes, and the bill. It was one of the longest times I have spent on having breakfast at a diner. The place was practically empty to begin with. The couple of women staff (the blonde woman and I guess the new owner) were walking around, passed our table several times, greeting and chatting with other customers, or just talking to each other. Not even once, were we acknowledged, greeted, nor asked if we needed anything. In other words, we were completely ignored. I guess maybe because we were not considered "regulars" that's why we did not get the same great service as what the other reviewers did. While my daughter and I were eating our dishes, we vowed never to come back again. We were very disappointed, especially since we also wanted to try their tacos for dinner too. That is not going to happen. The two stars were for the guys preparing the dishes. They were working efficiently, as the customers can see them due to the open kitchen lay out. Other than the cooks' efforts, I cannot give any compliments to the rest of our experience here.

Situated in the far corner of a shopping complex, La Autentica Donita is pretty unassuming. Lined with colorful flags, plants, and string lights, the restaurant has a cute but vibrant atmosphere. Upon entering the party starts, with music blaring and drinks flowing, you know you're about to have a great experience when you see the happy faces of other guests. The drinks looked amazing, but we came here for the food. Recommended by staff was the ceviche & molcajetes -- they weren't kidding when they said those were good. We were so full when eating but kept going back for more as the flavor was addicting. The ceviche, made with tilapia, came out shaped like a fish -- an extremely cute way of plating that caught our attention inmediately. The flavor was amazing, not too fishy, perfectly paired with citrus, and minced small enough that we weren't left chewing our seafood for long. This paired perfectly with the accompanied chips, or if you're me, just eat it by the spoonful because it was that good and refreshing. The molcajete was....insane. You can't go wrong with flame grilled meat piled high in a stone bowl, but each piece had it's own flavor and was so delicious. Though served with homemade tortillas to make your own wrap, I couldn't stop myself from just grabbing the meat on its own. This was the first time I tried cactus as well, and to my surprise it had just as much flavor as the meat. The salsa that is poured on top of all the meat pools at the bottom of the molcajete after your meal, making for a great treat at the end with some rice. Speaking of rice, their rice is perfectly fluffy and has great flavor as well. I'm typically not a fan of beans but I couldn't stop eating the ones that accompanied our meal...how did they season everything so perfectly? I also ordered the enchiladas oaxaqueñas (mole), but ultimately was served the verdes. This wasn't a big deal for me and I didn't even bring this up since I devoured my plate anyway, but after reading a few reviews have found out that they often are out of the mole sauce and possibly just served me the green sauce for that reason. Something to be aware of in case you were set on trying their mole! All in all, this restaurant packs flavor, quality, and great service. Staff was always attentive and I wish I lived closer to try more items.

The steak tacos were the real star: perfectly seasoned, tender, and piled high. You can tell they don't cut corners on quality. To start, I'm not a fan of the decor, but I usually take my food to go, so it doesn't really matter. I had the chicken taco dinner, which was PRICEY. That said, the chicken was delicious and there was a good amount of chicken in them--that's why they're getting four stars instead of three. Each individual taco is $7, which is absolutely insane. They have no other deals; nothing for Taco Tuesday or anything like that. What really made me want to give them three stars was the rice. It would've tasted better if it came from a microwave packet. I had one spoonful and couldn't stomach eating another bite. Tried giving it to my kid, and she didn't like it either (and, she absolutely loves rice). The beans tasted fine, but honestly, they tasted like they were out of a can. As far as service, the employee at the front didn't seem to know very much about anything. They're still new, so I won't ding them for that, but beyond getting rung up, there wasn't any other interaction until the food was ready. I'd buy five of their tacos if they were $5 each, but we made the decision to not buy any recently when we learned they were $7 a pop. Instead, we went to Taco Maya for their Taco Tuesday special and got three tacos with rice and beans for half the price of Miami Tacos. If we keep normalizing paying $7 a taco, folks will keep charging it. With so many other delicious options at lower prices, I hope Miami Tacos will both lower their pricing and work on the rice and beans (staples). The real jewels here are their tacos, but not at that price.

This is meant to be your crazy expensive birthday bash or celebration, not an every day place. We are lucky to have a gem like this in Schaumburg with very busy servers who try their absolute best to give you a flashy service with delicious food. Are you seriously expecting this to be $50 meal for four? No way. There are many places you can get the same thing. Every time I've gone here, I've spent good money that I worked hard for, and have had great memories in the process. If you're expecting a simple Mexican restaurant, this is not your place. This is high end and very busy. Make a reservation, call in advance to make sure it's set. OpenTable is used by many restaurants, so you can't blame this restaurant for OpenTable's mistakes. The Los Tres Huastecos was PHENOMENAL. The Camarones Calavera was really fun to watch, experience, and eat. I don't drink, but my family loved their flashy drinks (the Deseo was their favorite). They made sure my father felt special on his birthday with a sash, a custom menu (which we requested for in advance with our reservation), and most servers took a moment to say happy birthday even when they weren't serving our table!! Chris was a fantastic server who despite being very busy, did a wonderful job with his service. I won't defend a place for no reason; I truly had a wonderful time that deserves its praise. I research everywhere I go, so obviously when my paycheck hasn't cleared, I'm not going here. But you also wouldn't go to Fogo De Chao or Hell's Kitchen and expect it to be as cheap as my burger at a Chili's (which I love as well). (Also for the comments about the guac, I do agree, but I've also seen the same size portion at other chains for the same price. *cough* south of the boarder *cough*)

We went all in and ordered one of the giant shareable drinks for our group of six. It was definitely worth it for the experience, though a bit light on alcohol given the size. Pro tip: order a round of shots too--they serve them in this awesome airplane presentation, which just adds to the fun. Food-wise, everything was really solid. The octopus was a standout--perfectly cooked and super flavorful. The only letdown was the salmon; the portion felt a bit small for an entrée. Overall, great vibes, fun presentation, and a perfect place to celebrate with a group. Would definitely go back for another occasion.
