We've been to this location and other Egg Harbor Cafe locations before, so we had an idea of what to expect. There were tables open in many sections, but we were seated in a high traffic area near the host stand. This was not very comfortable for our group. Our food was just ok for the most part. The best dish that was served in terms of taste and quality was a chicken salad. The ingredients at least seemed fresh. Our other dishes were bland - biscuits and gravy and a chicken avocado wrap. Both were lacking any distinctive flavor. We requested tomato soup with the chicken wrap, but it was served lukewarm, with a cold spot in the center. We mentioned this to the server as our meals were served, as the soup was an upcharge to the salad that normally accompanies the wrap. We received an apology, but no other accommodation was made. Cleanliness was an issue. The rest rooms are near the open entrance to the kitchen. One of our family members has mobility issues, and there were traces of dropped food, puddles of water, etc. leading to and from the kitchen, in the path of the public restrooms. It was dangerous in terms of a slipping hazard to cross over that pathway to use the rest rooms. There were several seniors there that morning, with walkers and canes. The pathway should be cleaned more frequently to prevent falls. Honestly, there are better breakfast/lunch places in this area and for the same value. We had a pretty mediocre experience during our visit. read more

This place is in our rotation for lunch during the week. We ask for Cesar every time we go in - he is incredible. They have a separate GF menu with a ton of options. My friend and I shared GF pancakes (which are the best btw) and shakshuka with GF toast. The spice was perfect! Avoid this place like the plague on holiday weekends. Went there today with my daughter and the food took nearly half an hour to get to us. Of course I asked for one minor change to my order, and as I predicted, they ignored it and it had to be remade, adding to the wait. Our server was fine, but this has been happening throughout the 15-plus years I have been going here. At any other time, even when they're busy, the service is good and the food comes really fast. But every time I dare to eat here on a holiday weekend, it's a mess. It's as if they think everyone is out of town and the place will be empty, so they intentionally short-staff, bring in the C team, or both. Spacious and comfortable seating, friendly service. However, the menu seemed really different from what I had at the Egg Harbor restaurant in Oak Brook. There, they had a long drink list including espresso drinks, and many of the brunch items had the option of having pancakes on the side. Here, no espresso drinks were on the menu - we were told they are about to install an espresso machine so maybe that will change soon. The menu seemed shorter than the Oak Brook location, and pancakes as part of the brunch entree was not an option. Most items came with a toasted English muffin and signature jam (the jam was actually delicious). The brunch selection was pretty standard; the maple bacon was fantastic but the brunch potatoes were bland and looked like they came frozen from a bag. What I did really like was that the kids meals were very reasonably priced - $7 gets two pancakes, a scrambled egg, one fat juicy sausage (or 2 strips of bacon) and a beverage. read more

To be quick, I would not visit again. I had read the reviews and decided to give it a try but was very disappointed with the food. To start off, the potatoes tasted frozen and were undercooked leaving it a weird frozen taste. The fruit was okay, but they had a weird soapy taste. I tried the banana bread French toast and the flavor was fine, but it was burnt around the edges. I had ordered a burrito but the whole cilantro stem was in the burrito rather than the leaves. While there was a lot of seating and it was packed, you're far away from everyone to make it your own experience. Our waitress was very kind and came to us right as we sat down to get our drink orders set. She explained the menu thoroughly and was very helpful in making substitutions. My food came out wrong the first time, but she immediately took it back and came out with a whole new plate. Now some restaurants like to pick out the wrong ingredients or just change one thing and bring you back the same plate, but not this place! They made me a whole new dish, which I really appreciated, and quickly too! Overall, the food was great! We had a great variety and lots of options to choose from even for my vegetarian mother.
