SO good! Mongolian Beef, with what's left of the Pork Fried Rice!

This is one of the better Chinese restaurants! I highly recommend trying their Egg Rolls!

Look at this pathetic portion of chiken jerky. 3 slices, no sauce and drier than Reno in July.

Absolute garbage Absolute health hazard -- avoid at all costs I ordered the chicken teriyaki with veggies and rice, and what I got was 3 slivers of dried-out chicken jerky with no sauce. Already unacceptable for $15, but then I tried the rice and vegetables and found a piece of metal wire in my food -- likely from a scrub brush. I bit it hard and it chipped my teeth. Imagine if I had swallowed that. This place isn't just serving terrible food, it's dangerous. I tipped them $5 thinking I was getting a decent meal, and they served me something inedible and hazardous. Save your money and your health -- I've already filed a complaint with the health department.

Grabbed some potstickers for lunch before an event and they were delicious! Just a little crispy, filled with meat, and had a delicious vinegar sauce on the side. The woman at the check out stand was very smiley and helpful and was just having a great day! Made me smile! The place is small and typical of a chinese restaurant with minimal table seating and plenty of space. Definitely more so a grab and go place then a hang out spot.

I haven't tried many dishes yet. Good food for the most part. Decent prices. Small inside and good service.

Chow mein, with beef broccoli and orange chicken

So this is going to be a decent length review. I came to Reno from a far away town for some medical appointments. My friend told me that panda was terrible the last 2 times she had it. I decided "I remember the mom and pop Chinese food when I was living in California was way better than panda". So I searched and found here. I really enjoyed the beef broccoli, the meat was nice and soft. To me very flavorful. Now I got orange chicken, it was really sticky and wasn't very sweet like I'm used to. But it's decent orange chicken. Now the chow mein. I was kinda disappointed. It's my favorite part of the meal. This time it was a let town. It was sweet? Not really the savory I was expecting. The only off thing was the chow mein. I also had their chicken egg rolls with the sauce they gave. Those were good as well. Overall a very good hole in the wall Chinese food place. Parking lot is a little hard to get to. If you're not looking for it you'll pass it by.

    Part of the menu.

The best vegetable rolls. Fast and excellent service. Kids friendly and very clean place. I highly recommend this place.

The portions were generous with plenty of leftovers to pack up in takeout boxes for enjoying for another day. My favorite three were the ahi tuna, the black cod and the brilliant asian/french mash up of red Bean Creme Brulee. I also need to mention, I loved the lamb tenderloin. I am not a big lamb fan, but this New Zealand lamb was tender and non-gamey. The owners did an outstanding job of timing the dishes and engaging with our group while also taking care of other diners including non event patrons getting getting take-out and inhouse menu dining. The space is very small, but even with and almost full house, it didn't feel cramped. Even though Kwok's is right across the street from where I live, this restaurant would be at the top of my list of "I would drive out of my way to eat here"

To start, you can't go wrong with the enthusiastic welcome we always receive. Then quickly seated and wine poured. The 2026 CNY menu was fabulous, with some great surprises. The ahi tartare portion anywhere else would have been a shareable appetizer. But each person was served a large portion of delicious fresh ahi. Mmmm this course and a glass of wine could be dinner alone any other evening. The soft creamy rich egg custard was hidden under a thick seafood gravy. I really enjoyed this unique dish. The miso black cod is always flaky and delicious. And the crab fried rice it's nestled on also never disappoints. The rich New Zealand stir fried lamb and shiitake mushrooms over pea shoots was a fabulous hearty dish on this chilly March evening. The braised short ribs were so tender no knife was needed, they flaked apart with the fork. And the e mein noodles were perfectly al dente. The dinner wrapped up with a crème brûlée that only Kwok's could pull off - red bean. Creamy smooth. Not overwhelming. The perfect burnt sugar layer on top. The regular menu is just as delicious. Small inside seating area, so recommend always make a reservation. In the summer there's a fabulous patio area out front. Limited street parking.

Once we were seated, our order was taken almost immediately. Service was efficient and prompt. It wasn't particularly friendly, but it wasn't rude either, it felt very much like the staff was focused on turning tables quickly, which is understandable when a place is that busy. What I didn't expect was the flavors of the dishes. Each one seemed to have an unusual sweetness that didn't feel typical for Taiwanese food. From the Mapo Tofu to the salted fish fried rice and even the Taiwanese popcorn chicken, they all had a noticeable sweetness to them. Maybe I'm a bit spoiled by the variety of Asian food options we have living in the San Francisco Bay Area, but the flavors here just didn't quite match what I usually expect from Chinese/Taiwanese

We started with an appetizer that was a bit dry and tasteless, then moved on to the main courses. I had the shrimp with the fried noodles. It was fresh and enjoyable, but the broth literally wasn't seasoned. Salt please! My son's duck was also good but definitely overcooked and dry. The best by far was his friends Szechuan Beef, which would probably have me come back just for that. The restaurant is in a cute little strip mall and the interior was quite cozy and attractive. The service was also a letdown, as there was no friendliness, no smiles, just clinical service. Overall I would say there are many other restaurants I would choose over this, but we had to give it a try. Cheers, JimG

In case you're not aware, though the name of this restaurant references a specific city in northern China and the menu has dishes from across the country, their specialty is the spicy and numbing cuisine of the Sichuan region. If you've never had this before, when you see dishes listed as spicy, they may be very different from what you're thinking. It's certainly can be a polarizing experience, with many loving this flavor and many not into it at all, but the broad menu makes this a great call for everyone. Now I love dining with others who are familiar because it lets you explore the menu through their eyes and enjoy selections made by others with taste diverse from yours. My friend picked several dishes I would've never noticed or ordered blindly this time, and I'm so happy about that. We enjoyed the cold Woodear or black fungus in chili oil, classic snow pea tips with garlic, as well as the quintessential Sichuan cumin lamb, but the other three dishes we had were 100% new to me. Those included Sichuan snails (unshelled in an oily spicy stir fry), scallops with garlic and vermicelli, and crispy spicy intestines. The snails were a win. These are small and somewhat chewy morsels that get wok fried with fried chili, chili oil, peppers and onions. The texture is similar to sautéed calamari, but a bit firmer, and the sauce coats everything with that signature numbing heat. The scallops were the big miss. This dish typically comes in the half shell with fresh scallops, but here they're using a lower quality scallop (likely frozen) and a lot of pre-minced garlic (like you'd find in a jar). It looks impressive but the scallops had absolutely not flavor and the texture was rubbery too. Skip this one for sure. The intestines were the surprise. I've had fried intestines and they crunch like a chip and have no distinct flavor that lets you know what you're eating. These were sliced on the bias and wok tossed until super crispy on the outside with a delicately chewy interior. The sauce really amplified the flavor and this all made for a great bite within the whole meal. All in all, this is a home run. If you haven't been, I urge you to check it out, as it's one of the best authentic Chinese restaurants around.

We ordered the Vermicelli with Grilled Chicken, Dry Fried Beef Chow Fun, and Gai Lan with Beef. The portions were generous, and the prices were reasonable. With "Hong Kong Diner" in the name, I was expecting authentic Cantonese stir-fries with good wok hei. Unfortunately, the Dry Fried Beef Chow Fun lacked that signature smoky flavor, and the texture was closer to lo fun than traditional chow fun. The Gai Lan with Beef also lacked wok hei. The outer layer of the gai lan stems had been peeled away, so the stems lost the crisp texture that makes gai lan so enjoyable. The Vermicelli with Grilled Chicken was overly tender and quite salty. It seemed to be marinated so heavily that I couldn't really taste the natural flavor of the chicken. Overall, the restaurant offers generous portions, reasonable prices, and friendly service. I just wish the Cantonese dishes had delivered the wok hei I was expecting from a place with "Hong Kong Diner" in its name. :)

Thai Chili has far better flavors, and is rated lower. The wait staff/food runners lacked politeness, and never checked if we enjoyed our food or needed anyone. We decided to make it our next date night spot. We went on a Friday around 5:30 and it wasn't very crowded yet. They asked if we preferred a table or a booth, and we went with a booth near the front. The restaurant itself is really nice, but I'll say the booth felt a little tight. Next time, we'll probably go with a table for a bit more space. The service was top notch. The staff was incredibly attentive, and our drinks were constantly refilled. Our glasses were never empty, which always stands out. About 15 minutes after we sat down, the place filled up fast. It seemed like most people coming in had reservations, so I'd definitely recommend making one if you're planning to go after 6 pm. We decided on the Shanghai Dinner. I ordered the sweet and sour pork, and my wife got the sweet and sour chicken. I was tempted by the cashew chicken and kung pao chicken, but we'll save those for next time. The appetizers were amazing. The meal comes with spring rolls, crab rangoon, paper wrapped chicken, and honey glazed BBQ spareribs. Everything was delicious. My wife loved the paper wrapped chicken, and for me, the ribs were the standout. They were tender with just the right hint of sweetness. Honestly, I could've eaten a full plate of just those and been happy. For sides, I had the egg flower soup, which was really flavorful, and my wife had the salad. She could not stop talking about how good the dressing was. Both the sweet and sour pork and chicken were great. The sauce had that perfect tangy, slightly sweet flavor. That said, next time we probably won't order the same sauce for both dishes. I think pairing something like sweet and sour with kung pao would give a better balance with a little heat to cut through the sweetness. Overall, this place is a winner. Great food, solid portions, and the price is very reasonable at about $33 per person for the Shanghai Dinner. My wife enjoyed everything so much that after seeing another table order the duck, she's already talking about coming back to try it. I've been trying to get her to try duck for a while, so I'm looking forward to that next visit. We'll definitely be back.
