Disappointed. The cafe is in a decent Greenville location near a grocery store and Moe's Southwest Grill. Overall, the food is pretty good, but the drive-thru service could have been better. First, the person could not understand my order. Second, when I asked about the price, I was not given an answer, but ignored. Lastly, when I went to pay with the manager, I was still not given an itemized list of the price of the individual food items. No one seemed to care. The Egg Yolk Cafe could be a really great place. It has plenty of parking and is a good sized place. When you arrive, you need to wait to be seated. There was a group ahead of me so there was a wait for any of us to be acknowledged. Although after I was eventually seated those that came later were pretty much immediately acknowledged and seated. I was seated in a booth so could see the whole restaurant. Service was ok. I ordered the eggs benedict and it came out with runny yolks so I was happy with that. The dish was good but I don't think I'd return next time in town. read more

Very disappointing today. Am hour and a half plus to get order! And the food? Bread was soggy!!! And it was toasted?? And fries were cold. This is beyond ridiculous. And did anyone who worked there smile? No. Lots of excuses. Marked it off my list. My second visit and service and food were disappointing both times. Note: Did not eat here/turned around. This place had good reviews from friends of mine and the menu online looked delicious. however, when my bf and I attempted to go a month ago we were not happy about the COVID precautions. No outdoor seating and crowded indoors with almost every table being sat (and there was one party of over 15 people with about 4 tables smashed together.) Also some workers not wearing masks and took a while to be addressed. That said, when we were finally greeted (after being literally ignored by others), the woman was nice and helpful. We chose to leave given the situation indoors combined with lack of outdoor seating. I am looking forward to trying this place after the pandemic and updating my review. read more

Few things went wrong...45 minute wait to get our food and place wasn't busy. 2. Ordered the special and it came out burnt and raw. Waitress said bc of the sugars that's how it's supposed to be...‍ Manager went back to recook it himself and about 10 minutes later he asked if there was something else I wanted. At this time my family was about done with their meals and we had some where to be. The manager did me a favor by not charging me for my meal that I didn't get. Um thx I guess. Terrible food and so-so service! What brunch restaurant IN THE SOUTH runs out of grits, biscuits and BACON! That should have been my first clue! No hostess came to seat me. A lady at the back waved me to a table. I ordered the Eggs Benedict w/out onion and hash browns. The hash browns were cold. The muffins for my Benedict were not toasted. There was a half a slice of Canadian bacon on each muffin. Was there a supply chain issue!? I try to support local, but I've never been so thoroughly disappointed in a restaurant. My suggestion: go to Waffle House instead (which I did). Way overpriced for what you get! ($13 for my meal) read more

I gave my work colleague a choice between two restaurants for breakfast and he picked this one. The place was easy to find and they had a few tables available for breakfast on a Sunday morning. We were promptly greeted and seated. The menu was quite simple for breakfast consisting of two pages. They did put more of an emphasis on pancakes as they had a few different selections like a blueberry pancake or a sweet potato pancake. I went with the Hungry Man which was two eggs, one bacon, one sausage, grits, a pancake and a biscuit. I paid extra for gravy to take that biscuit to the next level. I'm not a huge fan of grits but I rarely eat them. I gave it a try since I was in NC. The food came out at an acceptable pace. The staff was on top of coffee refills but the service wasn't entirely friendly. The food was OK as is most breakfast places. The prices were on par with what I typically pay in CA. I was just passing through and am not likely to return to the area; however, if I do return to the area I will likely give a different place a try. Three stars! read more

Stopped in for breakfast today. We had a bit of a wait, maybe 30 minutes, but it is Sunday and most places are packed after church. I had the Veggie Delight with a side of bacon and the Triple Fruit smoothie. I was happy with all of it. I would have liked more hollandaise sauce but didn't ask for any additional. This is the second & last time that I will come here. The managing of this establishment seems disorganized. It took forever for the food to come out. When it did the food was cold. I don't send food back ever but it was so cold that they had to remake it. The server was very friendly and it's not totally her fault. This place is a simple breakfast place. I came here for breakfast with my best friend who is a regular, but after the experience we had, neither one of us are ever going back. For starters, our waitress got our drinks, but then completely forgot to take our food order for 20 minutes. We then had to wait another 30 minutes before our food ever came out. Once we got our food, EVERYTHING was cold. We asked if we could get the food remade, which the waitress was quick to get that fixed. The redo came out and it was better, but still not hot, and the bacon was flimsy and barely cooked. The pancakes came out a few minutes later and of course it wasn't right either. It was doughy in the middle, to where it just tasted like pancake batter and not actual pancakes. After this whole entire experience, the waitress came back and said the manager took off the cup of coffee By no means would we be looking for a free meal, but they took off the one part of the meal that was actually good. The manager couldn't even come up to our table to apologize either, just kept looking at us from behind the counter and making the waitress do part of his job. read more

Waited a while to be seated. I asked for a booth just for myself and was told by the server that they wanted to save the booths for bigger parties, so she sat me at a small table. About 10 minutes later two people walk in to be seated and she gives them the booth. I waited about 10 minutes and still was not served at my table. I will not be going back. read more

I would give this place at least 3 stars. The food was decent and everyone was nice except for our server Shannon.. it started well with her nice greeting until my boyfriend and I both ordered the Hungry Man which comes with eggs, grits, sausage, or bacon and an option of French toast or pancakes. I got grits turkey sausage, love that they had turkey option, french toast, and scrambled eggs. He asked for the same thing but with home fries instead of grits. When our food came out my food had home fries instead of grits and when we questioned our server she told us they had run out of grits; which was never discussed with us. The French toast came out 5 minutes after receiving our food. Which wasn't too much of a problem until we received a pancake instead of the French toast we asked for. Then after questioning Shannon for a second time, she told us that we ordered a pancake and French toast. At this point, we were fed up and did not want the French toast remade. The bill came and I explained that the French toast needed to be removed to someone who I thought was the manager. Then she proceeds to tell me I need to take that up with my server and walks off. Then I noticed Shannon was talking with her co-workers saying that it was our fault and that she would not be taking anything off. She proceeds to talk nasty about us with her co-workers. We finally got the manager who was super understanding of the situation and nice and gave us a 20% discount for our inconvenience. So we pay and Shannon comes to get our check and says to her co-workers all of that for $6 wow.. Then gives us a sorry tail apology at the end which I'm sure she didn't genuinely mean. All in all, I would not recommend going to this place. I understand it was the end of the day, but customer service is what brings your guest back. I had never been to Egg Yolk before so I had no idea what to expect. The location is a little small so we had to wait a little while plus we had a party of 7 so we waited for a minute. Outside of that, the service was pretty good, our server checked on us a lot which was nice. The food was REALLY good. I had the slam dunk with a sweet potato pancake (an upcharge from the regular pancake it comes with). It came with eggs, sausage and bacon (I got double turkey sausage instead) and home fries. Overall a pretty great experience and the food was great. I will be back for sure next time I am in Greenville. read more

I am unable to rate the food, as we never got to eat. They don't seem clear on how to run a business. We arrived this morning. It took 15 minutes to even put our name on a list. We saw a ton of empty tables, but assumed they were staggering seating to not overwhelm the kitchen (which makes sense). 10 minutes later we find out their computers are down so they can't send orders to the kitchen. Which meant that all the orders for the tables sat would be hitting the kitchen at the same time. Things happen, but the lack of communication is what was most disappointing. We ended up leaving after about 30 minutes (realizing the residual impact on the kitchen) read more

I am a huge breakfast lover and this place did not disappoint! The cafe is very cute and the service was amazing! Shirley, who works there and seems to be a jack of all trades, was so sweet to us. She even brought us out a bit of her homemade apple butter which was delicious on their flaky, light and fluffy biscuits! She even gave us her secret recipe which I instead to try out. If I am ever in Greenville again, I will definitely pop back in! read more

I came in thinking that this would be a good place to have breakfast... and it was! Not great, but definitely good.... I started with the specialty Strawberry Glaze pancakes. It was good enough that I finished them, but not awesome. (Then again I consider myself a pancake expert and know that Ally's Comfort Cafe in Sunrise, FL has the best in the world). We also ordered the Fiesta Omelette... also good not great.. had to spice it up with hot sauce to get it down the hatch. I noticed that the water cups were chipped and in need of replacing (and are plastic). Paper mats didn't help. Biscuits were awesome though!! So there's that. The food here is okay, nothing special, but it's certainly not bad. Typical breakfast diner type fare -- some fun pancake variations. Waaaay overpriced for what you get, though! It's hard to find an entree for under $10, and that's a bit much for breakfast. The service, though, is where this restaurant really falls down. We've been here a couple times, and the waitresses have never been super friendly. The last time, she was downright surly, told us there was no kid's menu (which the manager later told us was not true), and would walk away while we were talking. Went here Saturday morning. I ordered the veggie delight which is basically like Eggs Benedict but with tomatoes and mushrooms instead of the ham, and it was delicious. The tomatoes or mushrooms had some seasoning on them which just made the whole dish more interesting; I was bummed I ate it so quickly. My boyfriend ordered the Greek omelette and a blueberry pancake. He's a picky eater and asked to add chicken to the omelette. Given that it wasn't something they even listed under the build your own omelette section the waitress had to quickly check how to write the order but once she did that it was no problem for them to do. And I'm not a huge pancake eater but he seemed to be pleased with the fact the pancakes were fluffy but had a bit of crispyness around the edges in a good way. Besides feeling a bit too open, the atmosphere was pretty pleasant. The walls are painted a cheery orange which meshed nicely with the wood they have on the booths. I also liked how they had a hostess right at the front door so we avoided the awkward "do we seat ourselves?" moment. read more

I have been to Egg Yolk a few times and finally decided it was time for a review! It can get busy pretty quickly and they close around 2-3 so you wanna get there early. I had the fiesta omelet and it was huge!! The owner also shared some of her birthday cake with me and it was absolutely delicious! The server was training someone but she was very attentive!
