This trip was no different. We had a large group of 16 and it started there. Was told a 2hr wait. If we split in to groups of 8 we'd be seated in 45. Took this option. Actually got seated in about 25 minutes seperately. (A table of 8 that was right next to us was vacant and NEVER got used for the entire 90 minutes or so that we stayed at the restaurant so why not accommodate our group? - strike one) Our waitress I'm told was very chippy with an attitude toward some party members. (I didnt get any attitude toward me) but heard a few people stating how she was answering people's requests and how unpleasant she was. - Strike two. The food. I ordered the meatloaf nachos (which were good). I also ordered the fried pork chops w/ side salad. Loading up on fake bacon bits (like 1000 pieces) doesnt make the salad better. This is a hint to their kitchen. The pork chops were dry and the "red skinned" mash potatoes" (which I do not remember the menu stating that they were red skinned potatoes which would mean SKIN would be present in the mash. Otherwise I would not have ordered this. ALSO, their baked beans.......this was the worst part of the meal. I am expecting some version of beans with a bbq base or similar...instead I got some sort of bean SOUP which was totally inedible in my opinion. Whole meal was trash. Strike three. My 83 year old father said at the end of the meal "worst meal I've ever had". Which I had him repeat to the table just in case anyone thought it was just me. $700 with tip for the quality is a bit much. I will never ever return no matter what my siblings say.

I mean come on you get desperate but not that desperate. So I have not been to an Applebee's in a very long time. I was thinking on a Friday night restaurants should be open until 11/12 PM. Oh I was proven so wrong as my first stop was another casual downing place we will call Silis that rejected me due to it being 1001 so pickings were slim. The last time I did go was because I somehow had a gift card for them. Also it was when they had those $1 drinks. You know it is bad when you sigh as you know what you are about to encounter ranging from customer service, food quality, and cleanliness. Once I was finally noticed at the bar the female came over to ask about a drink. So, I went with a LIT and she handed me a menu that was just wet. I looked over and I still think why did I spend the time on this menu and just went with the riblets to go. The LIT was ok. It was good but did not taste like a LIT. If you want it just for the liquor then you good to go but I do like flavor in my drinks. If someone was to give it to you I am sure you would not guess it was a LIT but it was still pretty ok. Now the secret is to know the bartender. Two of her friends came in and after seeing their drinks made I was like how are they going to drive. Then the drink had a sidecar of tequila to go with the copious amounts of tequila already poured in it. The riblets were ok just like the drink. Good thing is that I was given a good amount and the bbq sauce was a savior. Here is the issue. I get firing up the ribs to get a slight char before serving but the char was very uneven. It was on some of the ribs but not the others. Coleslaw was pretty good and the fries were nothing to write to Yelp about. Still I am here writing about it. What you see and the conversations of the employees here are something to listen to. You have no choice as loud as they are talking. Across from me was a long line of used cocktail glasses that trust me was not just put there. I hear some of the employees talking about how few glasses they have to serve at times and why are there so many cocktail glasses piling up tonight. In my mind the time you spent talking someone could have easily removed them all from the counter. Hey if you got time to lean you got time to clean. Especially behind that bar area. Not a very inviting thing to see especially if it happens to be a customer 's first time in this place. This is one of those situations where I am sure Applebee's knows they are one of the few selections so what's the point of doing better or turning the needle a little bit up on the give a damn meter.

This place was amazing! I would give it six stars if Yelp would let me. The coffee was delicious, and the food was even better. I travel all over the country, yet this place stands out above most places I've visited. The staff is professional and friendly. I can tell they are managed very well. My co-workers and I try to eat at Eggs Up at least 3-4 times a month. The food is always good. I am a vegetarian and they always make accommodations for me. The staff, especially Crystal, Jessica, and Susie, are WONDERFUL and, literally, always remember our (especially my odd ones) preferences and are always so friendly and courteous. Where we're from, every Shoney's closed down years ago, so I probably hadn't eaten at one in close to 30 years. I grew up eating that breakfast buffet, so when I saw that sign, there was really only one option: MAKE THE U-TURN. We had driven about three hours, hadn't eaten breakfast yet, and rolled into Sumter around 11:30 a.m. Thankfully, they serve breakfast until 2 p.m. on Saturdays, which immediately made this place a winner in my book. The buffet itself isn't huge, but it had the classics: scrambled eggs, sausage links, pancakes, French toast, biscuits and sausage gravy, home fries, grits, fatback, little chicken bites, strawberry topping, syrup, plus a salad bar. And then there was the bacon... Apparently everybody in Sumter had the same idea we did because the bacon was GONE when we got there. We stayed about 40 minutes and never saw another batch come out. Bacon was clearly the celebrity of the buffet that morning. Thankfully, the sausage links came through! They had a slightly sweet, almost maple-sausage flavor and were really good. My wife enjoyed the salad bar too. She wasn't a fan of the beets and said they tasted a little strange, but everything else she had was good. One thing newcomers should know: the buffet line is less of a "line" and more of a choose-your-own-adventure. There didn't seem to be a clear starting point or direction, so people would jump in wherever the food they wanted happened to be. Nobody was rude about it, but if you're expecting everybody to start at one end and work their way down... abandon that dream immediately. The only real downside for us was the temperature inside. It was pushing almost 100 degrees outside, and inside felt somewhere around 78-79 degrees. It wasn't unbearable, but after coming in from that kind of heat, I was definitely hoping for that glorious restaurant AC where you need a jacket after 10 minutes. We did not get that. Service, however, was excellent. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, helpful, and welcoming even though the restaurant was pretty busy. They also appeared to allow buffet to-go orders, which I thought was pretty convenient. For two adults and one child, we were right around $55. A little higher than I remembered Shoney's being--but then again, the last time I was regularly eating here I probably wasn't the one paying the bill. Most importantly, the food tasted like I remembered it. And that was worth the stop. There are certain restaurants that instantly take you back to being a kid, and Shoney's did that for me. If you remember places like Quincy's and Ryan's, then you already know exactly the kind of nostalgia I'm talking about. Was it perfect? No. Was I hot? Yes. Did I eat entirely too much? Absolutely. Would I make that U-turn again? Without hesitation.
